+1 - I've been pulled over for no tax and insurance on a car I owned that was taxed and insured. The Traffic officer was really good and said i'd quite likely get stopped again before the relevant databases were updated. I have a lot of empathy for TW. Our roads down South can be very busy, and there are roads I know very well, and therefore know where to overtake and where not to. In TW's place, I'd have likely given the Ferrari three chances to go where I would have. After the third I'd assume they were happy behind the silver/grey wagon, and I'd be planning to overtake two vehicles (assuming that slotting in between the Ferrari and van might not be an option, even if it should). Most overtakes are unnecessary. If I were the OP, I might've considered it better to get past the van when the opportunity prevailed, so that I wasn't stuck behind them at said intersection, where I might be able to get away when they can't. Either way, a duff experience for TW. Gaz

Thankfully neither driver was hurt. I think most of us have been guilty at some point of a little impatience. As an ex motorcyclist the best advice I was even given was the "life-Saver" a last look over the shoulder before executing the manoeuvre. I still do this in the car out of habit especially on motorways before changing lane, would of stopped the Ferrari driver maybe pulling out. The other thing I was told it's better a bit late in this life than early to the next. Hope you get the car fixed quickly,I would be gutted if I pranged mine for sure.

I always think its a bit wierd when you have to overtake a super car ,its like should i be doing this in a skoda 😂😂

Strange that you answered my question as I was about to say the same thing. It is still it IS insured but untaxed though and shouldn't have been on the road. I'm leaving it to the legal team of Privilege to deal with as that's what I pay a legal protection fee on my insurance policy for.
  6. I finally won... I have achieved 1941 on my car via the garage. I like many people had 1896, crashes started and became more frequent. I complained to the garage, they reinstalled 1896, it went back, tech support said I needed a new MIB3... once it arrived it was fit... on 1668. Garage swore blind that it was the latest version available for that MIB. I gave them the benefit of the doubt - days later, issues reoccurred and a butt tonne of other little niggles which you could find in forum posts for two years ago. I took it back yesterday, "fix it - or we're talking returning it the car". It turned out that MIB3 they'd replaced mine was missing a recall fix - so their systems wouldn't let them upgrade it. Once they figured that out with Skoda Tech, applied the recalled fix, it went through 17XX, 18XX to finally 1941. It now appears to be fixed, everything just works, no crashes. I "caused" a bunch of this hassle by pestering them to fix it, they decided to swap out the MIB3 a week before 1941 was released. I suspect if I'd just waited it'd have been easy to upgrade, either by garage or the 1941 firmware floating around here. I'm gonna go back to enjoying my car and not feeling slightly angry/annoyed when I see the infotainment. Huge thanks to everyone here.

Yes that is what I meant, my bad choice of wording, I have spoken very little English for 19 years. Good point. A combination of two impatient drivers, I know of what I speak cos I is one! A Ferrari driver doing exactly what most would expect of them and which they probably feel obliged to do in a perverse manner. A VRS driver wanting to show a Ferrari driver that their indulgence was wasted. I have been both those people (not with a Ferrari) and consider myself lucky to have not crossed paths with a clone of myself. It is rarely safe to overtake in on UK roads in a sweeping left had bend especially on narrow country roads like that, on a wider road elevated above the surroundings without trees obscuring the sight lines, all the elements lacking in that video, you can sit back a little and look ahead to the left of the vehicle in front before deciding to take a little look which is not so risky on a wide road but there will have been a considerable blind spot. Equally there is a blind spot for the Ferrari driver to not see a car that has whipped out between the mirror, signal (not) manouevre. It would appear not, I was never to blame in my then mind for any of the accidents I was involved in when I drov like the roads were my personal racetrack, indeed the insurance companies agreed with me but in hindsight every one was avoidable if I had been thinking, its only from the benefit of experiences like that that I became a safer driver, I see people making the same hasty mistakes that I did and nearly coming a cropper, several times coming face to face with an oncoming overtaker who has swooped out dramatically from tailgating the car in front as the French love to do, I have reacted to and avoided situations that when I reflected afterwards concluded I would have in the past hjad an accident and ergo been partly responsable.

Is that you admitting to driving badly? 🤔 If so I applaud your honesty.

Be interesting to see the outcome of this. WRT the overtake itself. Meh, not sure I have enough info to decide if I’d have done the same. Had you already been sat behind those two, through multiple other NSL sections and the Ferrari driver hadn’t taken any opportunity to pass, then I’d have done exactly the same (assuming that section is safe to complete a double pass, I have no local knowledge of it). On the other hand, if this was the first ever opportunity to pass, I’d probably not have bothered. For me, I need some kind of confirmation from the car in front that it’s not going to take an opportunity, should it present itself.

The law changed many years ago. In the old days, innocent victims of uninsured drivers didn't get paid out. Nowadays, if a driver is uninsured you still get paid out because the UK motor insurance industry was forced to set up a fund to pay out in the case of uninsured drivers. A small percentage of everyone's motor insurance premiums goes into that fund.

Interesting points raised, and differing opinions. @J.R. is right, the more you look at the video the more you see. Not sure about an oncoming car in the distance - need to watch it on a screen bigger than my phone. Is it me seeing things or does the OP move further right towards the verge as the red Ferrari start to move out? Seems there was a split second decision - move over and [more] power/acceleration OR back off and hit the brakes. About 20-30 years ago I’d have just kept my foot in; today, I wouldn’t have tried the overtake (and feel good about saving a millilitre of fuel 🙄). Somehow I managed to avoid several accidents when I had no right to do so. Quite frightening when I look back at some of those very, very near misses.
  13. 3 points
That's why you should always give plenty of indication before changing lane, so even if you don't see the person you are going to hit at least they will see your intentions and be able to take avoiding action. If it had been a motorcyclist overtaking, the Ferrari driver could have killed him. A 1 year ban and a court order to retake his driving test should be the absolute minimum for the Ferrari driver, and compensation for the victim. The Ferrari driver wouldn't be able to claim that the OP was making a dangerous overtake, because that was exactly what he was trying to do.
  14. MG4 Extreme So good it mashes the Audi e-tron /Porsche Tycan. Audi did not want to lend What Car a car as they knew this half priced car was going to mash their car over the 0 to 60 and quarter mile. OMG.
  15. 3 points
It all depends on how well anyone knows that road, having pulled out and seeing what is ahead, you have a split second to decide if its safe to back out of the overtake or to press on. Personally if it was a road I didn't know, I'd be happy sit behind and follow them, but each to their own ideas.
  16. 3 points
@Breezy_Peteyes I often go for it where I know I have the power so speed to get on past vehicles or have a space to get back in without hitting someone or causing anyone to take emergency action. Just into a NSL and with a fast car in front of me I asses if they are going to go first and then if passing expect the plonker to maybe do just like that driver did. It's a daily thing in the country side IME. The OP does not think they were in no way to blame do they?
  17. 3 points
Yes, but doesn't excuse their failure to look sufficiently.

Was that the same footage editted to end before the incident was concluded as you posted on here? Any chance of seeing the continuation of the recording? Am I the only one to have an open mind on what seems to be the accepted narrative that the Ferrari driver was attempting to overtake the van and not having a peek to see if it was safe to? If it was an intended overtake then his manoeuvre was far more gentle than the OP's he is not even accelerating or gaining any ground on the van.

I still do the life saver check in the car and with the dashcam it makes me much more aware that I'm being watched by something (which should be used being a former train driver) that can save my neck or slay me. As it shows the driver of the Ferrari appears to be quite happy to follow the silver van, so once the silver van when the other way, I dropped it down a gear in sport mode, indicated and went and as I went past him he decided to go too without any indication whatsoever. If he'd used his mirror (done a life saver) he'd have seen me. Still the dash cam footage has been sent and as far as I'm concerned it's down to the insurance company to sort out.
  20. That's front pipe to midsection though, isn't it? Always a joint there; it's mid and rear sections that come as one.

The UK,s Theory test & the 'Hazard perception test', is something that we should maybe all have to take every 10 years. There are at least 2 'Blue light drivers' on this forum. Maybe they can comment on how they do an overtake at a location like that if not lit up and on a mission. In the Lane Keep Assist thread, pity the Ferrari driver had not 'Lane Keep Assist' that might have at least had an indicator go on or 'blind spot warning' But all the new tech gear is no use if just not paying attention. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/486388-lane-keep-assist-is-danger

You're correct about its tax status and the SORN statement, however, that does not actually mean that is the real situation. When I went to Mansfield to collect my current car, I had to tax it before I could drive it home. I paid the tax on line and it was a few days later before the DVLA updated the status of it so any police car could have pulled me over if they had their ANPR cameras switched on. All I had to prove that it was taxed was the online receipt email on my phone.

Ferrari was untaxed and being driven while under a SORN declaration!!!!! The good news is he is unlikely to dispute your claim.

Just entering the NSL of 60 mph and raring to go. @32 mph before leaving the restricted speed area, but maybe that was 40 mph??? Obvious hopefully who was at fault and driving dangerously and without due care and attention. That is why i have no dash cam. 'Hoist by one's own petard.' Bl00dy dangerous overtake there to think you could accelerate past both vehicles and someone might not come in the opposite direction having done the same thing. IMHO.

  26. After 10 years of Skoda ownership, covering a Fabia vRS, Octavia vRS and finally the Superb Sportline Plus, it's time to say farewell. Whilst not a prolific poster here on the forums, I've really enjoyed reading about people's experiences, ownership journeys, and advice. The Superb replacement is very different - a Jaguar F-Type R coupe. It certainly doesn't have the space of the Superb 🤣 Thank you everyone for making this a fun place to be an owner and hope everyone continues to enjoy these great cars.
  27. Until very recently the " guide " was to change the timing belt @ 5 years or whatever mileage it was , off hand I cant remember the mileage quoted . This " guide" only applied on cars used in the UK. Common since has finally been applied , hence the reply from Westlands. PS , if the car has previously been serviced by a Skoda dealer then that history will be or should be available by Westlands. service history used to be on paper, It is now digital but only if done by a Skoda dealer. PPS if you have no record of the service history Skoda or otherwise given the age & mileage of the car PPS if you have no record of the service history Skoda or otherwise then given the age & mileage of the car I think an inspection at least of timing belt is needed, preferably a replacement.
  28. Which joint? From memory, the front pipe to midsection sleeve clamp is 45mm ID, the mid-to-rear one 38mm. Message me your VIN if OE part numbers may help.
  29. Your a hero. Thanks, i will send it to my dealer to back up the claim.

With my Yeti 1.4 AWD (150hp version) I averaged 42mpg (actual) over the time I owned th car, and my current car a self charge Kia Niro has averaged 69mpg (actual), since I got it about a year ago.

As the Ferrari is not taxed, it might not be insured. According to the MOT history, it has only been doing about 200 miles/year since 2019 when the current owner appears to have purchased the vehicle.

Thanks bro. Yeah took it in the local shop and they just advised a CV boot replacement, and like you said about 1hr labour to do. So about £80-100 or there abouts.. Is now in the shop getting done. Thanks for your advice. Hung

Looking at the MOT history, the Ferrari has only been doing about 200 miles each year for the past few years. The last time the V5 was issued for the Ferrari was 28 March 2019, so presumably that was when the current owner purchased the Ferrari. The Ferrari was first registered in 10 April 2008 and has 420g/km CO2 emissions, which puts it in the £695/year road tax bracket.
  34. I am still running 1889 with no probs . I just had this OTA update No problems
  35. @parapaul exciting times, lots of goodies there! Very similar if not the same as I am intending to do to my 280 estate. Is yours the estate or the hatch? Just getting some other work done first before getting the suspension done. I got the ARB from ML also, it came from ECP. Autodoc delivered most parts but did substitute a filter and made a complete mess of a return that was their fault as a short ship. Good luck with the upgrades and looking forward to hearing about it all.

I keep watching it over and over again, cant see any indication from him but he had already crossed the white line before you passed him. I guess all accidents are avoidable in hindsight.
  37. I like those. FWIW I think Skoda has a great range of good looking wheels, just a matter of personal taste of course. I like the 18" Perseus Anthracite that my car came equipped with although I'm about the replace the wheel lug caps with chrome ones (on order from Ali Express) to 'link' the wheels with other chrome accents on the car. If I don't like the change I'll revert to back to stock.

Just to throw in some of my own figures, probably as a back-marker. With a 63 plate 1.2 Yeti on 42K miles (an easy life), on 16" wheels thanks to Expatman's pioneering example, my figures for 2022 were 36.9mpg over, unusually. only 3,500 miles. Most of these were over poor local lanes and with only a handful of journeys of 200-plus miles. I'm always happy to see 40+ showing during the rare motorway run (at or around 70 where reasonable) but pure economy can't be a big factor for me personally. Over rather a lot of years driving, under quite different circumstances I've seen the extremes of a 75mpg Trojan and an 18mpg 110 Landie. Perhaps just keep an eye open for deterioriting consumption but do remember that your own driving style, routes, vehicle condition etc are rarely the same as another's. Be happy you're driving a Yeti!
  41. Problem solved! At the bottom there are 2 very visible screws - which hold the trim in place, and then inboard from these are 2 screws (very difficult to see) that hold the glove box in place. Obviously I was using the wrong 2 screws. Also it is easy to remove but getting the 2 bottom screws back in requires a contortionist!
  42. Looks like just changing the lights, and reads like some equipment will be available from more expensive cars (which presumably will make it cost more), then getting some other differences like different alloy wheels. To be honest, would prefer a replacement for unreliable MIB 3 than minor tweaks if I was going to buy one. I might be seen as an oddball, but I prefer my cars to work reliably ahead of shape of lights.
  43. I want to keep the car for a long time (last car,Mondeo 15 years) and I only drive about 8000 miles a year 🙂 oh and thank you for your help as well..
  44. Nice project, following I had a Bam engined mk1 octy back in the day they go like stink on just a mapped k04
  45. Yeah, but it’s good to have those “real” ones, where the person undertaking the work can show the “real” time it takes, the pitfalls when removing the OE kit, installing the new and how to avoid loosing a thumb along the way etc.
  46. Ok, in case mirror cover is the problem, I'll also add the sequence for that:
  47. Went on a mighty epic quest in Google worthy of King Arthur himself and was able to find pictures of the MK4 console's underside. I might try to remove it eventually based on these pictures. From what i'm seeing i'm almost 100% sure the noise comes from the white plastic rubbing against the black plastic. Silicone based or Dry PTFE lube WD-40 cans should do the trick.
  48. My Kubota micro tractor has just clocked up 3500 hours since 1980.
  49. Engine "in" New 3" downpipe and the 6 speed box with quaife LSD that is worth more than the car 🙈. Not too far away now. Next up.. front subframe and suspension.
