  1. As a practical person with an understanding of things the physical change would be way simpler for me than mucking around with long coding and there is no way that reversion would be one of the programmed options. I never knew that DSG gearshift worked in the opposite way to what I consider normal, I engineered built and raced a bike engined Caterham including the minutae like the gear selection linkage, I never for even a millisecond considered doing it the opposite to what seemed obvious to me, had I not read this and one day bought a DSG car it would have bugged the hell out of me and my muscle memory after doing 24 hour races would not want to re-adapt let alone my brain. It seems completley counter-intuitive to me, after all in most conventional gearboxes you push the lever forward for 1st gear and pull back for top 4th gear or nowadays 6th, and before anyone questions that I consider most 5 speed boxes having the direct drive 4th gear as top gear and 5th being an overdrive.
  2. I had a GPF regen happen after several days of house hunting where the car was driven quite slowly for long periods. I didn't realise what was happening when I noticed a petrol smell inside the car and the fuel gauge was dropping quite quickly. After calling out the RAC he could find no leak and then asked if I had a GPF? - problem solved, doing a regen.
  3. OT, but just incase a TSI with a GPF ever does need to get cleaned up with a Regen and they can do, remember and Read the Owners Manual. They are different from a TDI and a DPF, but there is still a procedure.
  4. I find I have to glance at the rev counter, the engine on my Kamiq is so quiet, leaving the car a couple of bongs as a gentle reminder does not offend.
  5. That is certainly true of my Kamiq, especially when drive is disconnected.
  6. There may an adaptation you can change with VCDS, but not sure which module it would be in.

If you read your policy carefully you'll likely find that you have a duty to inform the insurer of any ANY accident regardless of fault or lack of apparent damage to your own vehicle. Who's to say that whomever ran into you doesn't suddenly decide to say that you reversed into them?
  8. I do know someone that can weld plastic, in fact that's what he specialises in, as he has his own body shop. He'll be a bit further south for you (North East).
  9. IIRC, I think they were 8mm. They’ve done 8k since I got them in Dec 23 so I can measure them and report back. WHAT - a whole FIVE YEARS?!!? Clearly he’s the goto SME then… 🙄
  10. Quick pics of my 176,000 mile octavia mk1 vrs 1.8t on the new wheels
  11. Hi all, Had a bit of a search but can’t find anything about this… Any passenger cars with sequential stick-shifter requires pushing forward to change up, and pulling back to change down. But this is the opposite to motorsport and, truth be told my brain naturally errs to motorsport and I have to think consciously when using that bit of shifting. So, has anyone ever identified or tried or known of a way of changing it round? It’s just an electronic switch after all…

Hey folks. Got a little project on the go. We'd been shopping around for a second car as a runaround and was getting depressed at the sea of Ford Fiestas, Fiat Pandas and Smart Cars coming up in our budget. I remembered my boss still had an Audi TT in his lockup that he mentioned he wanted to sell. So here we are. It's an early 1998 non-quattro model. It's only had 2 owners from new and has spent most of it's life in a garage or under an enclosed car port so has less rust on it than my car! Suspension was replaced a couple of years back (think it's lowered slightly too) aswell as the brakes which all look like new still. The only gremlins it has is that the dash is constantly showing an oil temperature sensor warning (it doesn't have one) and the brake wear warning (also doesn't have this). It suffered from the common dash failure and he sourced a used one from a newer model. The driver's side window regulator makes interesting noises and needs replacing (motor is fine thankfully). And I've just replaced a rear ABS sensor as the light was on. Stuck a new battery in as the old one was a cheap one and dead anyway. So it's off to be MOT'd (TÜV) next week so fingers crossed. Hence why it has no plates as the plates get removed when it's not currently registered (equivelant of SORN in the UK).
  13. Superbs are lovely cars. Mines a 2018 model. Be very wary of seat comfort. To my mind this is what lets down the car. I'm rather a short person and find the driver's seat VERY uncomfortable, but have to put up with it.
  14. I think DSG6 (DQ250) has been used until 2018. It was mounted on both FWD and AWD. I would say DSG7 (DQ380 for FWD and DQ381 for AWD) was mounted when FL versions started to appear. Mecatronic issues on DSG7 (DQ380/DQ381) seems to be quite seldom. Nothing to do with DSG7 (DQ200), which was a nightmare for after sales.
  15. Good to know, I'd be amazed if anyone ever needed to regen one of those, as generally they're done passively. I tend to let the momentum of my transmission slow down my car where possible, presumably when the GPF would then be cleaned. I'm very pleased I don't own a dpf now though, that's a different ball game. Not that I ever had an issue with a dpf equipped car, owned 4. Just need to drive them correctly.
  16. Churchill and Direct Line are both part of the same(Direct Line) group, all their policies are underwritten by UK Insurance Ltd (same group)

Possible egr. I've had 2 earlier 2.0tdi vags which have done the same. If yours has the egr at the front of the engine, could try giving it a clean
  18. Broadly yes. Its signifies that any re-gen process (even on a petrol engine) is completed, that the battery is optimally charged and that there are no electronics on the car pulling excessive amounts of current.
  19. Most superbs have a good level of standard kit so you may find something you like in any model. L&K have the highest spec. They all have independent rear suspension where as your octavia has torsion beam rear. The superb should be more compliant but comfort is subjective so worth a drive to find out. There are other changes (like vehicle weight) that may affect the comfort more than the suspension design. Tax is all the same for cars from April 2017 with the extra luxury car tax added for years 2 to 6 for cars over £40k RRP. A highly specced superb could exceed that. You have to balance the additional cost of tax against the additional cost of maintenance for an older vehicle. My car is currently £170/ year which is standard for hybrids. £180 for petrols/diesels. The variety of tax rates only applies to the first year the car is registered.
  20. Mib2 high is this one: That is where I was saying best to use the VW ones of the VW / Skoda ones. I'm on the Audi 350 one on the mega link which has been totally fine. Didn't bother re-installing it for the VW / Skoda release of the same map. The Audi one got leaked early. Audi maps get released on a closed group by Vin.
  21. Genuinely, no. If it needs filling it gets filled and I tend not to check the cost or get a receipt. I'll try to remember next time
  22. Sounds an immense project. So using a bike engine and gearbox would that mean knocking forward for first then back for all the upchanges? (Thinking bikers tap down for first and then up for all upchanges?). In which case glad the topic has been discussed at least but even it’s a no-way then it is what it is. Mate did show me his M2 Competition gearstick and as @Rootedsaid BMW followed the motorsport way so there are options out there for an auto that you can shift intuitively. i’m not saying my way is right of course - horses for courses, it’s just always been the way my brain has worked.
  23. Petrol engines can be very quiet.
  24. It is illegal to leave your car unattended with the engine running, certainly your insurance company would not like it either. It is also not very Green. The bongs could save you money in fines or a stolen car.
  25. It is a good shout @Gerrycan. However, these are tyres from 2021 (Dunlop Sport) which I think were OEM for this car and they have loads of tread on them. The car has only done 13k miles.
  26. Driving none but years of being a young age watching on board rally footage had it ingrained in me I guess. It’s always been a natural response to my mind for whatever reason. Paddles mostly for me too when in the mood but if I’m turning then god knows where the right paddle is. Usually pulling out of a junction and unwinding the steering while changing out of first etc but there are other examples
  27. Depends on the battery in all honesty. Again I refer back to the official VAG/Skoda way of doing it; you need a battery maintainer.

Welcome. Sorry no idea, is it a manual gearbox rather than a DSG?
  29. If you have matrix headlights push stalk away from you to turn on auto high beam basically the car decides if lights should be dipped or high as camera can turn sections of the lights off so you dont dazzle oncoming traffic or cars you are following. When I have to go into office my commute involves a couple of unlit country lanes you have to have faith but never been flashed and you can actually see sections dip either side of the car, other morning followed a golf down lane and could see the cut out around their car where it had auto adjusted the light sections down - work of the devil but amazing tech😄 RCC49 means that you can code car so is always on and you dont have to push stalk every start up to activate it for that journey
  30. Not quite all passenger cars - my previous Toyota Aygo with x-shift had the manual mode the right way round (forward to shift down, backward to shift up). To me this makes so much more sense since the G forces when accelerating or braking now work in your favour! I too would like my DSG Octavia to work this way, but I suspect that due to the redundant switching in the shifter assembly it will require more than just moving wires - and there's also the problem that the trim piece will show the now wrong +/- direction.
  31. Sounds like you have a MIB2 Amundsen - yu can get the 5L0 prefix SD card you need off auction sites such as eBay.
  32. There's a good chance it'll have some digital record. I can see that @ApertureSha kindly offered to let you know. I'm missing one service on mine, but next to impossible to track down as it was outside of the warranty period with no digital record then, until the Skoda main dealer had just serviced it for me, recently prior to me buying it.
  33. Definitely a diesel - the 'TDI' marking on the engine cover gives it away. That and the four rubber pipes coming off the diesel filter
  34. I had something similar with my 2018 1.4tsi Superb. After the 2nd service, I noticed a leak from the sump plug, dripping on my drive. Took the car back, and they checked the plug was correctly tightened to 30Nm. Still it leaked. So they changed the sump plug, and the replacement plug leaked. As they had seen this before, they contacted Skoda technical who told them to use an additional crush washer, which they did and the problem was fixed. They videod the whole process. The standard sump plug has a standard steel washer, sometimes fixed to the bolt with a weld at the side. So it seem that that the sump thread wasn't correctly aligned or the the mating face was machined slightly off. Or maybe just a bad batch of plugs with wonky washers or incorrectly machined seats. Subsequent services (3) I remind them to fit the additional crush washer. In the OP's case I feel the dealer mechanic tried to fix the leak by tightening the plug beyond the 30Nm specified and damaged the thread. Now trying to pass it off on the customer.
  35. Gone to a good home 👍 I have two PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE 235 45 R20 100V XL tyres with approx 5 to 6mm of tread left on them. These came off my Kodiaq when I changed to Goodyear Eagle F1s all round and I kept the best two of the pirellis. I need to clear some space so these need to go. Free to any Briskoda members if you collect them. Located near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
  36. I was checking live data using OBD port via Carista App and at the same time with my phone car charger which shows the voltage, although car charger shows always .02 value lower than the OBD2. If OBD is showing 14.8v, car charger will show 14.6. as @RoddersUK said BMS must be doing it’s job to not overcharge the battery hence it’s shows 13.2 while driving and when braking or just release the accelerator it goes above 14.5. I keep the car charger connected while disconnect OBD2 after checking live data.
  37. We are not worthy….. quite astonishing.
  38. Errrr, no. You do it because you’re INSANE!!! 😊 All I’d be left with would be a wonky dash with nothing working and a pile of “leftover” bits in the footwell.
  39. I work full time as a roadside tech nowadays but before that spent around 10 years working on cars in workshops (mainly VAG but also JLR). My hobby is working on my own car doing all these fits and running SK Retrofits to offer bits to others too. Some information can be sourced from others who have done the same bits, other retrofits that are new or haven’t been done by anyone involve countless hours of looking at wiring diagrams, parts diagrams, comparing car logs, finding parameter files, writing a plan of the process, checking if parts are compatible (sometimes by trial and error) as well as just giving it a go and finding the outcome as you go! then sometimes parts don’t exist so you have to start looking elsewhere at other cars, then if still nothing, designing and creating your own parts. Like what I’m doing with the areaview for the front camera mount and all the cabling. someone’s got to give it a go for others to give it a go themselves 😛
  40. Another pet hate of mine is drivers that turn their headlights off and think daylight running lamps are okay to use instead of 'normal headlights' not realising the rears are off , something I've never understood why car manufacturers made them this way.
  41. Move the seat all the way forward. When it stops, move the switch forward again and the seat will move a cm or so. Do the same when moving the seat back; when it stops, move the switch backwards again and the seat will move back a bit more. Then reset the seat memories.
  42. Mine looks exactly the same as yours. It's not a fault, that's normal.
  43. The mild hybrid 1.5 has engine-off coasting which can save a lot of fuel compared to the standard version which idles the engine instead when coasting, wasting fuel i drove a Leon one of these as a hire car in Switzerland last year and it averaged around 5L/100km, 55-56mpg from memory. I don’t think there are any 1.5 PHEVs out yet? The new passat and superb should both have the new 1.5 version but they are not yet available to order. The 1.5 version is meant to be much more efficient on fuel than the outgoing 1.4. As an example my 1.4 PHEV octy estate (non-vRS) will do about 52-55mpg on a run with a flat battery (70-75 on the motorway, just me in the car) I’d imagine a 1.5 phev version would be up in the 60s
  44. There are no 1.5 TSI PHEV Octavia yet. You will need to get a VW or Audi to get one of those. There are 1.5 TSI Mild Hybrids.

Surely the first thing anyone in this position would do would be to check the Motor Insurance Databas (MID). If the teenager was insured then options are available as described above and if the teenager wasn't insured then a different course of action needs to be followed and the options and implications are a bit different. I'd have thought that to be obvious. But the OP must surely know all this. There can't be anyone who doesn't know that reporting any sort of incident or collision has repercussions for you come renewal time. Unless you get really lucky the moment your head pops up above the insurance company's parapet the contents of your wallet will be in jeopardy. The above reference to post-accident discovery that witnesses appear from nowhere or that whiplash inexplicably afflicts one or more of the teenager's passengers (whether or not the passengers were seemingly present at the time of the accident) is to be borne in mind at all times. Youtube will provide examples in case anyone is in any doubt, It's possible the teenager is as honest as the day is long and that anyone advising or supporting them will tell him/her to do the right thing .... but there's a saying about pigs and their ability to engage in air travel.. I have a front facing camera on when driving, but not a rear facing one ... ideally we would all have one coz they can save all manner of arguments in such circumstances.

For your own peace of mind I would say get a proper assessment for any damage - it's too late three months down the road to find out something not visible to you was damaged or put out of align.ment as then the cost of fixing it will be down to you. If it was 100% the teenager's fault - not looking/driving too close - rear end shunt I'm inclined to agree with Prezafab and Rooted that not telling your insurer could cause you problems if there is hidden damage or, worse, there's damage and the teenager's hasn't got insurance. Others may be able to advise whether it's worth reporting to the police in case of the insurance issue.
  47. It is possible that they just see the bright lights and don't realise that they are not actually being blinded by them?
  48. My general thoughts on the subject of servicing my Skoda superb 2011 till 2019 as a taxi driver i bought this car brand new, serviced it as follows: every 10,000 miles air filter, oil filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and oil.. evry 85,000 miles cam shaft belt replaced, water pump every second camshaft belt, the results speak for themselves, car at 0 miles total mileage on car when i replaced it, it was at 433,000 miles with the same engine ,gearbox, Turbo, exhaust, glow plugs since the day i drove it out the dealers, due to the regional council the taxi cant be more than ten years old, hence the reason for replacement, new car is Skoda Super 3 , happy motoring.
