  1. Aye. If the tax man can find a way to tax you twice or even thrice he will.
  2. Just a smidge of wiring for me this weekend.... Also unrelated but diagnosed my partners DQ200 clutch fault, thats gonna be a fun weekend job for me to look forward to!
  3. This may have been covered before …EPC and EML came on suddenly with very rough running and limited throttle response. Nursed car to and from work. Despite the published descriptions of doom, I thought this may be due to low battery voltage. Very quickly discovered one of the battery terminals was not tightened. Everything now completely normal. Result!!
  4. Well, all submarines since 1880s, have been electric, or hybrid, the only exception has been the nuclear subs.
  5. Yes the screws were badly rusted and the filter was bad with leaves in it. Unfortulately it has made no difference to the power issue. Tommorrow I will goto the garage to see if they still have the diagnostic they did.
  6. Not exactly the most efficient use of Hydrogen but i suppose good for use in remote areas like "north Yorkshire 😂" ? I expect in reality it's for training in use of the equipment for operations abroad. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-68383322 https://www.idealhy.eu/index.php?page=lh2_outline
  7. What an absolute peach of a car. Renault got so many things right on this model. Got to order it with the baguette holder.
  8. Renault 5 preview: 40 kWh and 52 kWh. Up to 150 hp. Start at £22,000. Built-in google maps and auto nav via charge points. It will have V2L and V2G via onboard charger: https://www.press.renault.co.uk/en-gb/releases/3057 Surprisingly, brake pedal is drive-by-wire. V2G via onboard charger is slightly different to my Leaf's V2H via DC Chademo, my bi-dir charger is on my wall. Possible problem I can see is compatibility with other cars doing it this way. But then, only Nissan Leaf and eNV200 have implemented V2G protocol for Chademo. Kia Soul and Lexus Ux300e isn't compatible with my bi-dir charger. Info on different types of V2x tech: https://thedriven.io/2024/01/10/renault-to-fit-v2g-tech-to-new-r5-but-with-a-twist/
  9. China has a massive demographic issue, thanks to the one child policy and other policies. ITs population could half in a lifetime. So they need and apparently are already building human shaped robots to work on their car production lines. The Chinese already have numerous advantages in making cars ie the material like Lithium, the battery manufacturing, advanced manufacturing processes like giga-presses. And now robots that will work almost 24 hrs, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. As a socialist I do wonder how wealth will be shared amongst the Chinese people ? We will need robot maintenance crews etc but how many staff, one day a week, month and will that get automated too ? Times a changing.
  10. That's a comprehensive and convincing post @wyx087, so thanks for that. You're right, I had overlooked the much harsher re-cycling that a phone battery gets. 👍 (Makes me wonder why phone manufacturers don't accommodate this in their data.) But, your point about the range drop could be an inhibitor, when car charging requires a time committent. It's no problem for the people charging at home, though I wonder if it requires less power to charge a degraded battery than it does to charge a completely healthy battery, but when there's a time committent of 30-45 minutes involved, then yeah, it's going to be a nuisance. I think we need to remember the human factor here. Beyond the cold facts and data, there are things that people just don't like, and are uncomfortable with. And there are things that people are drawn to, perhaps due to fashion or good marketing, when there are superior alternatives. For example, I'll never understand the appeal of SUVs. Most people never take them off road, and they just increase running costs and are more likely to roll in an accident. Now if I were an Activist, I'd be off lobbying, campaigning and trying to get SUVs banned or taxed up to the eyeballs. But I'm not, so I just let them get on with it. One thing I've not mentioned, is that there are also undoubtedly some Activist ICE owners. They think everyone should own an ICE vehicle and think EVs are bad. They're just as much of a pain in the backside as the EV Activists, IMO.
  11. Yesterday I made a trip upto RAF Mildenhall as I knew that there were 2 KC10 tankers on their way ferrying a lot of fighters on their way to bases in Italy from the states and on the way we decided to drop into Duxford to see if there was any activity going on there as well, and I saw this lovely Spitfire there in one of the hangers taking part in a "Spies in the sky" event going on there, this is one that I have spent a lot of time with back at its hangar in North Weald. Then outside on the airfield, there was this Mustang being flown by its owner. Then we carried onto Mildenhall and saw both of the KC10's landing there. These are now rare indeed as most have already been replaced by KC135's and these 2 will be gone shortly.
  12. As title... Should have offset the badge like this though IMO as a nod to the GTX
  13. Hi all, Had a bit of a search but can’t find anything about this… Any passenger cars with sequential stick-shifter requires pushing forward to change up, and pulling back to change down. But this is the opposite to motorsport and, truth be told my brain naturally errs to motorsport and I have to think consciously when using that bit of shifting. So, has anyone ever identified or tried or known of a way of changing it round? It’s just an electronic switch after all…

Whilst driving to work at 04.45, EPC and EML lights came on with rough running and limited throttle response. Nursed car to work and back. Despite the published descriptions of doom, I thought this may be due to low battery voltage. Very quickly discovered one of the battery terminals was not tightened. Everything now completely normal.Result! Posting this to highlight that battery issues can cause electronic gremlins. Used to be a common problem on BMW e39…
  15. Oh dear, how sad, never mind. Why shouldn't EV owners pay the same sort of taxes as ICE owners rather than being given "concessions" ? You drive 10k miles PA then you pay more tax than someone doing 5k miles. Take the motive power out of it. Seems fair enough to me
  16. Well we all knew that would happen sooner or later, the government can't manage without their VED tax, for every new EV car on the road, the government miss out on revenue.
  17. I linked the videos before. But then there are Hydrogen threads and alternative fuel threads, I needed gloves when filling my big LPG tank. As to other world regions and taxes the UK has no influence, the same with pollution. The UK took back control.
  18. I just watched this interesting video about filling a Hydrogen car from 10% level to 100%, just 4:30 minutes, pretty good, but the delivery hose almost froze solid, how would that hose hold up doing that all the time?
  19. Likewise, I have had the auto parallel park system on my last 2 cars since 2013 and I have never felt the need to use it so I don't even know if it works, and if I could have ordered the car without it, I would have done so.
  20. Don't suppose you have a tape deck radio fitted?
  21. My delayed response to that news was "Cometh the hour, cometh the man".
  22. Hi there, I've had my petrol manual vRS for 14 months now and its averaged at 32mpg over 8000miles.which considering the performance and mostly short trips I think this is excellent. On a motorway run travelling around 75-85 I easily get 40-45mpg.hope this helps.
  23. Does this count 🤔🤭 RAF_Luton_640p_20240226_192902.mp4
  24. I love it. Especially the baguette holder. Only negative I have heard is that Renault are dropping the on board charger down from my 22 kWs I have in the Zoe to a 11 kW, everything else I have heard so far is great. I presume the 40 kWh Urban/city version is going to be an LFP battery which is a plus and I think it will still be OK for longish journeys, hopefully all models have seat adjust up and down which is the Zoe's achilles heal in not having it, not great for car journeys over 2 hours I find. Faster DC charging than Zoe, 150 hp motor option. My Zoe shows over 150 hp in the digital TFT screen so hopefully most powerful R5 will show over 165 hp. Be nice if they can be chipped but then on fairly warn tyres my Zoe would oft spin up, better now I have the A grip Toyos on there. Greater range and a host of new features. Just needs some good finance deals, which Renault did for the Clio etech, and I think Renault will be adding even more to their profitability. Same we are not going to see it for a year or so. Dacia Spring will tempt many, as in Europe (13k Euros in Germany !!) and it will be big along many other Dacia and Renault vehicles. Dacia and Renault, the new Skoda/VAG. Do still like the Cupra stuff mind you.
  25. I would expect the panels to be set early in the day and then left most of the day with the troops fairly far away. Most Western countries have done their fighting at night as we have superior night vision equipment. Weaponry is evolving as even as far back as the Falklands the onboard laser, original used for targeting, was found to be quite useful for blind the enemy. Now we have Dragonfire which is being used in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Needs more power as 30 kWs is too slow to destroy incoming drone, needs to be more like the Israeli 100 kW system used in Iron Dome so it can fry an incoming missile in a fraction of a second or no more than a second or two rather than 10-ish that Dragonfire is allegedly taking. The future is mainly in energy weapons. Good ofd fashion material strength sometimes has a place, like with the Icelandic boats beating up the RN ships is Cod war. The Russian have a good history of improvising and we should be using all the laterally thinking we can. Ukraine recently lost a city to the Russian advance and with Russia doubling it military budget and with its economy growing 3% last year, unlike some of the Western countries, the Western forces need to think smart which history has time and time again showed UK Generals are very bad at and it has taken new blood, clever civilians to win the wars. I expect both electric vehicles and electro-magentic weapons to continue to take over from using oil powered vehicles and weapons hurling lumps of steel, or uranium, at each other. If the West starts using nuclear material Russia has said it will also start using nuclear material in the weapons it uses and that will not be good either.
  26. Your fuel flap will have a sticker that most probably says 95 Ron minimum. Using fuel of a higher Ron will most likely give benefits to performance and consumption.
  27. I made the point that you insist on your own narrative and disregard facts. It seems you are happy to be proven that is the case. Third time ignore stuff that doesn't suit you (1, 2, 3) . Once again childishly shut down discussions that don't favour you. Unlike last time, let's hope the toy doesn't get thrown out of the pram this time. Does make one wonder, if EV tanks can camouflage much better because no longer need to emit heat and can operate silently.
  28. Have you not been watching the clips from Ukraine war, wind turbines or a solar array would be easy to spot by a drone pilot. I would also expect a hand cranked generator would take some hefty cranking to kick out any usable amount of power.

I got a new Risgeback Di2 e-Bike for my partner, unboxed, handlbars on and front wheel and unrapped. Now i wish i had tried switching it on first. On charge, but can not see why not going on. It was to be a surprise, now it is a PITA! Video shows a center screen like i have on my fat -bike, but this one is a screen on the left bar and an up down on the right. Waiting to here from 'Support'. Not this either.
  30. I don't have matrix headlights so can't say how effective they are but the multiple posts I read of those that do have this feature being flashed do not instill much faith in their effectiveness - the automatic system seems flawed if oncoming drivers feel the need to flash you as they are being dazzled? Personally, one thing I hate is oncoming drivers, or drivers behind you, who don't dip their headlights in good time. The moment I detect an oncoming car headlights, often by their beam reflecting on an approaching corner or the beams being visible over the brow of a hill, and long before they are straight ahead of me, I dip my lights so there is no chance of dazzling them - it's just common courtesy and considerate driving.
  31. Thanks very much for the reply, I really do appreciate your experience
  32. Welcome back, Dubz! I wasn't around here when you were last on, so it's nice to see you on here.
  33. I suppose the cynic in me would say that the best engineered cars last not a day longer than 3 years, otherwise it's bad business not being able to sell new cars to people. Regardless, I've now ordered a set of Eibach springs from Autodoc, R16391 and R21093, alongside top mount and other rubber gubbins. £312.38 So I'll probably track three sections: Maintenance: Stuff like general servicing or repairs, whether scheduled or unscheduled. Upgrades: Any of the possibly "fun" stuff, or perhaps less "fun" mods. Miscellaneous: Anything I've needed as part of VW group car ownership, think bespoke tools that I don't already have in the garage. So, thus far: Maintenance: £312.38 Upgrades: £0 Miscellaneous: £0
  34. Several other threads on this, one in the performance section in the past weeks. It is what it is and as I drive both DSG and BMW s I prefer DSG,s. Comes natural to me how they operate.
  35. I think I may be in his ignore list as well which is fine, that's his choice. If he replies to my question or not I'll know and never bother him again. Unlike some who follow you around the pub like a bad smell and if you decide to use the other bar they follow you in there as well despite repeatedly telling them you're not interested. 😂
  36. How often do you run out of fuel/charge in cars? vs How often can a given person with driveway utilise V2H? I ignored the that part because it's complete fabrication. But here are the facts, how often people actually needed assistance with vehicles out of fuel/charge: https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/latest-fleet-news/electric-fleet-news/2023/06/07/aa-reports-huge-decline-in-electric-vehicles-running-out-of-charge Highlighting benefit of EV is "find something to make me/EV look better"..... Hum.... if that is the case, you are doing very well in the opposite direction.
  37. I reckon over 90% of UK drivers will have standard summer tyres fitted all round, all year. Is that safe? A large proportion will be budget tyres. Never can understand why Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Range Rover drivers fit obscure Chinese tyres. Even funnier when I see heavily modded lowered cars with big bore penis exhausts on 30 profile ditchfinder iii tyres. I notice a lot of new low/mid range Skodas, VWs etc now come from the factory with budget tyres, e.g. Komoran and Nexen. And why do manufactureres think its safe to drive on skinny space saver spares that aren't even the same diameter as the others even limited to 50mph? Never mind load ratings.
  38. And light. Which is brilliant if it does come down to needing pushed. Also great if traction / grip is lost when off camber. Slide a bit and get stopped by a verge, kerb, snow bank etc. No abs, no TC/Asr. No airbags, just drive with care or not a care in the world and die or life changing injuries or live to remember how good things were and can still be. Fiat Panda, Mini and many others FWD, RWD and sometimes AWD.
  39. The best (non 4WD) vehicle I've ever owned for use in snow was the Citroen 2CV. Nice skinny tyres that cut through it nicely And of course Air cooled so no danger of the radiator fteezing ;o)
  40. There were a lot of 23 reg Karoqs with under 50 miles on the clock for around £29-30K when I bought mine in December. It had 8 miles on the clock, lots of decent kit but unfortunately no ACC and heated screen. I figured I could live without those extras and enjoy the savings.
  41. Yes big ones, you can increase camber-better cornering and castor-even better turning into the corner. Probably less adjustable than existing Ground Control because both are adjusted sinultaneously and on Ground Control separatelly-easier to do but KW ones has sealed closed ball bearing-no dust comes in and preserves its function longer and also teflon ring that I expect to eliminate doing doing sound when turning steering wheel because of spring and alu cap rotating and causing noise, now it should be gone. Will update you after mounted. With lowering caps you have only stiffer upper Hood and less to press coil-longer suspension and coil-less compressuon on spring and shock but nowadays all the shocks are height adjustable without affect on spring height so only stiffer hold of shock you have and no camber castor adjustement which is crucial for direct and precise steering and handling or track use. My car is Like go cart plus precise with R32 steering rack only 2.5turn- but to direct on high speed-missing progresivne servo💪
  42. Software updates are for the firmware!
  43. You can factory reset the infotainment. That's what I did when I first got mine: You will need to re-pair your phone(s) afterwards.
  44. There literally is nothing quite like an old V8 Jaguar 👍
  45. Tested codings list, OBDEleven Gen 1. and Superbs Mk3/Mk3.FL -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/516414-vcds-options-on-superb-iiifl/
  46. Sorry to resurrect an old post, but did this work and continue to work as a fix? I've got enough water in the rear nearside to sustain a decent group of Koi carp, hell my lad is taking waders and a fishing rod into the car each time.
