  1. Some one needs a cuddle 😂😂
  2. Not a fan TBH... It looks like it's crashed through a Halfords or Ripspeed catalogue... Rather naff... the old Honda Civic was the same.
  3. best looking available skoda kit in a 1 of 13. what do you think? i know its not for the pipe-and-slippers brigade but the VRs was never meant for them. 😍
  4. Thanks for replying, you both make some good points. I got my current vRS from new, it’s a 220 2016, nothing wrong with it, it’s done 86k, just thinking about a change. I like the power but I don’t use it enough, I bought it because it came with a good bit of kit. I may look at a 1.5 and just se how expensive they get with the extras. Thanks again.
  5. The winter fuel mix always seems to be the main driver, I've seen it across all the diesel cars I've owned with various manufacturers. As has been said I typically see 3-5mpg less in the winter with no change in driving.
  6. I’m sold on them. I just can’t bring myself to spend luxury car money on one. That’s because my car buying brain is trapped in the 2010’s. I think the price is such, due to a few factors. Mostly the added expense of everything being on a chip or backed by a chip. I don’t need my mirror to angle down when reversing, or the camera etc. yes it’s handy, I don’t need it. It’s priced into the car. The actual cost of the car, metal and bits is not that different to an older car, it’s all the gubbins. Most of which we’d be happy without if we didn’t have it we’d manage. Although adaptive cruise control is really nice… so I’ll have that please ;)
  7. your on the wrong forum guys... there you go. youll be much happier over there.... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/
  8. There are actually lots of options - even big cars. VW Caddy/Ford Tourneo Connect (same vehicle) can be ordered for around £30k in it's most basic form. This is a seven seat car that makes a Skoda Superb boot look like a Fabia's (at least with only 5 seats in use).
  9. Toyota are probably the least EV focused of all the main car manufacturers. They do a lot of mild hybrids but these are effectively ICE cars with a tiny battery and electric motor that helps to save fuel. As far as the government and ZEV mandate is concerned, it's an ICE.
  10. A skoda octavia is a family motor and looks daft with a pretend rear wing ,a gt3rs has one to keep its back end planted as its a very fast car ,but its each to their own if you like it thats good its just different tastes ,i hated the civic type r it looked like an 8 year old had designed it but it was a fantastic thing to drive .
  11. Petrol / Diesel at the pumps can go to £2.00 a litres so £9.09 a gallon to take you 45 miles and still that is much like 10 kWh public charging @ 89 pence a kWh. BP Pulse. Maybe the fortunate with their Cheap Rate Home charging that really is not 50 % of EV drivers no matter what the Government, RAC, AA or who ever says need to think about the bigger picture. 60 pence a kWh and Porsche Taycan getting 2.4 miles a kWh is 24 miles for £6.00
  12. I haven’t personally tried to buy a new car recently. But Skoda wise, 2 of my friends have bought new Fabia 1.0 petrols in last 3 months. Toyota have been hybrid based for well over a decade and well ahead of any European legislation.
  13. Here's mine - high mileage lava blue 2019 L&K FL from Lithuania.
  14. @alexandros_kolyvas , You will need access to ODIS On-line to remove CP for new added 3C module and a dongle/tool capable for SFD Unlock dedicated modules (CU17, CU19) to make the necessary codding.
  15. Good God almighty people, why do we have to bicker so? this is a generally lovely forum to be on, and its up to us memebers to keep it like that. @Exkiwi Differences of opinion happen, but its a lot easier to get along with a friendly tone than being confrontational even when opinions differ...
  16. I wouldn't take an ACT engined car of mine to somewhere that doesn't seem to be fully up to speed with the extra steps and special tools required.

Hi. Thanks for letting me join. My first Skoda was a 1000mb mk2 bought in 1974, after that I had virtually every model till my last a 1997 Felicia L. I was a member of the SOC for years and won a holiday to CZ in 1980 given by Cedok. I did loads with Skoda back in the day. Marriage and kids came in the way and TBH I didn't particularly like the VW influence. I have just bought a very cheap 2015 Octavia 1.6Tdi from my neighbour, very cheaply, an ex private hire Taxi which has the oil pump belt break at 196,500 miles, there is some slight big end noise when hot and I'm going to set about fixing it. At 71 I suppose I'm daft but why not? Kind regards Trevor MM0KJJ
  19. We have been increasingly unhappy with our UK 2024 Fabia mc. However, I’ve managed to make a really useful upgrade for around £20. Both of us have been annoyed by the useless windscreen wipers on the front. They drag noisily across the windscreen and leave uneven streaks. There was a useful thread on the forum covering the rear wiper. It went on to mention problems with the front ones. Like much of the Fabia kit the wipers seem poor quality and apparently the dealerships will typically fit new wiper blades which have the same issues but cost mega money. After some doubts I ordered a pair of Bosch A864s wiper blades. The were bought on Amazon and are a straight swap. Avoid anything where the picture shows an adapter to fit the blades to the arms. These are made to fit the car exactly. They are easy to fit but I suggest using a towel to protect the glass. I couldn’t do the job without pulling the arms well away from the glass and slightly levering the blades while pushing down the little square button that locks the blades in position. The Bosch wipers are working silently and without leaving smears. The result has been magical.
  20. The Kia Niro is about similar size to Nissan Leaf. Packaged better with bigger usable boot, but styled to look more SUV so looks bigger. https://www.carsized.com/en/cars/compare/nissan-leaf-2010-5-door-hatchback-vs-kia-niro-2021-suv-ev/ When we were car shopping in 2022, Kia EV6 had long back order, so Kia dealership asked us to consider Niro. Wife immediately says it's Leaf sized, not big enough for long trips.
  21. @Dready did you not ask the service manager to ask the sales manager for a demonstrator or sales car for you to drive to see it was abnormal / faulty and not making the same noise.
  22. The only "electric car" I've been in was a Kia Niro full electric, and its interior proved tight enough that someone 5'10" could not sit behind themself, partly due to a lack of any foot space under the front seats. I'd suggest that this made it utterly unsuitable for its bought purpose as an ambulance transport vehicle.

Sounds like you have same or very similar issue as mine, see my thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/532979-mechatronic-repair-recommendation/ A company called Control Units is looking like the best option for me, but awaiting pricing

Cheers guys it was dead battery👍🏻
  25. Not sure if it helps but my sons 1.2 htp had same problems getting through last MOT re emissions. MOT guy noticed a very slight leak in centre exhaust joint.(my fault as I hadn't tightned it properly after fitting a new front section. He sealed it and tightened it and emissions were then good. It was a tiny leak but obviously enough to affect emissions. He reckond that the engine may be sensitive to the wrong back pressure but couldn't understand why such a small leak would make a difference. Alasdair

Ah okay it’s just the extra fuel being used to heat it up asap that’s making it run more rich and then produce a louder pop. Yeah it doesn’t have much go, just trying to have fun before I can get a car with some real go as I can’t have a car with more than 130kw/per tonne on my current license. I do have the race chip gts, cold air and bov so it’s not super slow 😅
  27. 1 point
You have a GPF and a Catalytic converter both getting heated up ASAP and more fuelling to do that. Even pre GPF a TSI will tick over for about 40 seconds at 1,100 rpm before dropping. PS I am slightly deaf as well, and not interested in someone else's car with all the noise and no real go. Why would anyone else be?
  28. Do Comuter Generated Images of cars actually have engines?

Thanks mate. Yes agreed a lot looks a bit brittle with ages and heat like you say, the more I'm looking then more I'm seeing that it has some sort of Nsf collision damage. Fairly new wishbone Drop links Radiator Burst CV boot Driveshaft only held into gearbox with 3 out of 6 bolts. Heaps of broken parts etc So it will take some time but I will get her on the road again.
  30. Thanks for your reply, it's the 6 speed so I assume DQ250. Local garages won't touch it if they haven't supplied the part, understandable I guess, the last person to touch it always gets blamed for any problems, much like computers! Basically I'm ready to sell the car for whatever I can get for it...unless repair cost is reasonable in relation to it's full value as a working car. The other issue is a 'main seal' oil leak which I'm told needs doing soon and is quoted at £900 (inc cambelt) so it's turning into a money pit..
  31. If anyone find MSTD_EU_SK_P6230 please send it please
  32. 4x4 Karoqs have a 55 litre tank (others are 50 Litres) 7 miles per litre is approx 32 mpg so that would equate to a range of 385 miles, 6 miles per litre is aprrox 28 mpg which equates to a range of 330 miles. Your touring caravan must be quite big, in the mid 1970s I towed a 12ft Lunar weighing about 15cwt or 750 Kg. I'd imagine the frontal wind resistance of your caravan would be higher too. I think that, subconsciously, my driving style changed which is reflected in the better mpg on the return journey. I made more use of coasting, staying behind trucks if they weren't holding me up.
  33. That maybe, but Fabia is still a small car, in fact it's more like a 2 seater with space for 2 tods in baby seats.
  34. Looks like the designer's a 3D concept artist with the imagination of a twelve year old :D https://www.youtube.com/@ZephyrDesignz
  35. In other news the cost of crude oil has jumped 8 % due the the military action between Israel and Iran. In other other news Octopus is offering customers free electricity sessions as well as cheap overnight charging allowing EVs to charge up and cost only 2p a mile for energy / fuel !!
  36. Probably caused by a difference in voltage between your properties. Around here we have 248-250V as a rule, very close to the maximum allowed by the regulators so my charger often gives 7.8kW and never under 7.5kW (should be 7.3kW at 230V)
  37. 12.2v is quite low for idle, will drop even more when engine is at higher revs. Can't say for sure, but low battery voltage causes all kinds of weird issues so that would be my next troubleshooting/maintenance step. I'd remove the battery and hook it up to a charger overnight to see if it helps.
  38. I think as long as the central fleet of cars and vans, excluding the PMs Range Rover, (which I guess is armoured and needs the potential to go a long way for a long time very fast) is electrified by 2027 as the government stated it will be then this isn’t yet a story. There isn’t really any pressure yet on Joe Public to buy an EV, it’s coming in 2030 but currently you buy whatever you like. In fact, the over £40k tax thing is making many EVs undesirable. Presumably government fleets are planned over periods of years and it would be wasteful to change them early, we also don’t know what agreements are in place on the current fleets or when they were agreed. Also I guess they will have to install their own chargers between now and 2027.
  39. It does a bit but it is potentially true if you're in the 62% tax bracket. My car is on Octopus EV too and if I punch a wage of £110k for example into our configurator then I am getting a similar price on a low spec ID3. There won't be any deposit. If you are in that tax bracket then it is more or less a complete no brainer to do it as long as you can live with an EV. I'm enjoying mine so far but I have the Superb as backup for long journeys etc (we do these quite frequently) - I wouldn't countenance an EV as my only car at this stage but many will find it works for them if they never/rarely do long journeys.
  40. So we'd kind-of dismissed this and were back to thinking that maybe a small derv would be the right thing for us. However I had a call booked with the Octopus EV person to go through the options etc. So mostly fluff but in the end got quoted on a VW ID3 (can't recall spec but can dig it up). Quote was £317 per month dalary sacrifice for 3yr at 12k a year. This included = maintenance, insurance, road tax, tyres at 20k or 2mm, free charger at home, and 6000mi energy credit. Deal also included discount rate with Octopus at 6p kWh overnight. The Clubman will use more than £400 a month in fuel. Plus it's an expensive bugger to run for everything else as well. It should sell for about £17k though. Seems almost too good to be true and I need to double check there isn't a £10k deposit or something.
  41. And watch out for bow waves from idiots driving too fast through the water causing a much deeper surge.

Hi @Donie are you happy with your car, or is there an issue or problem you want to discuss?
  43. that version is "intrusive" as it sits across the top of and blocks the battery, brake fluid, turbo inlet pipe, and turbo inlet elbow!! the HP version on the other hand is inside the plastic cowl, tucked nicely out of the way.
  44. Probably removed it and changed the exhaust in general to be quieter. At the end of the date it’s still only a 4cyl, add more cylinders for better sound 😁
  45. 1 point
That's a sign of an almost dead battery, you might have to get the battery replaced if it turns out to be bad. You should it able to start it with a jump pack on for now though.
  46. 1 point
The oil change now might point to a faulty oil pressure sensor. Are there any fault codes stored? Another simple point would be the battery either bad connection or low voltage/failing. My octavia did weird things when my battery was failing. Dash lit up like a christmas tree with loads of warnings. Alasdair
  47. Don't worry. @pab567 sorted me out with the files. Will give this update a shot this weekend and report back!
  48. Since returning to petrol cars after years of diesels, I'm amazed at the life of modern spark plugs. Back in the 80's I'm sure I remember having to gap and clean them every 5,000 miles, and change them every 10,00 miles! Chris
