  1. The gentleman in the building was dead nice. He could move the van, he will point out to others about awkward for some if bay just blocked... Like these educated people never knew The flap not opening on the van and it needs charged to go to Balloch. ****** kk s Not allowed to use rear car parks since damaged cars from roof in storm coming off. This is bloody Scotland, fix the roof while the sun shines. SEPA. You get weather forecast.
  2. Octopus say they 'might' be able to connect to our smart meter but if not we'd have to get a new smart meter. So we decided it was a whole can of worms that could be a real problem and have stayed with our current supplier who can interact with our smart meter. We got an Ohme home pro charger fitted by a local installer and will use the off-peak overnight rate using the My Skoda app to control it. Just need the car now to see if this all stacks up ! Could be a month or two before that happy day! Thanks again for everyone’s input- much appreciated
  3. First time starting a project thread, bear with me... Heard about this Roomster not too far from me that might be heading for a scrapyard, and decided to try to acquire it. That went well and it came to my place this last weekend. Early 2012, 1.2 TSI, 5sp manual, 158k miles on the clock. This is it, just after being washed. Paintwork is far from pristine, but that's not something I care much about. I'd looked up the spec via the reg plate before seeing pics of the car, so there were one or two nice surprises when I first saw pics, then the car in real life. Factory build sheet suggested no roof rails, nor trailer hitch. Both were in fact fitted, presumably by supplying dealer since this was bought new by the previous owner. Trailer hitch is the detachable type, with 13 pin electrics connector and adaptor for 7-pin electrics. Super handy! Had to swap out the alternator to get it charging and driveable, battery was also factory original and not well at all following loss of charging. OSF tyre had nasty inner shoulder wear, without anything similar being apparent on the other side, so that needs some investigation promptly. Partner told me the high level brakelight is inop. Nearside mirror adjustment isn't happening. May well be a split outer CV boot on OS too, but hard to be sure as the whole engine is rather oily externally, and everything needs a good clean-up to see where any fluids are escaping from. Everything else seems to work, though the handbrake only slightly! Lots more to say, but for now: New battery fitted last night after the external clean. Interior needs a lot of cleaning up; hoping a local youth may be enticed into helping with that, possibly. Engine sounds rather nice and quiet after two seconds of mild rattle from cold-start. Seems to go just fine, but economy not great on journey home. Quite excited to bring it back to full health. 😁 I shall no doubt have many questions.
  4. Just had MOT today. Passed. No advisories! I love this car. Best car I've ever owned. Had it for 17 years and found no reason to change it. Bought it at 4 years old with 27k on the clock. Now done 140k. Not bad for a 21 year old, eh?
  5. This was meant to be a weekend job but I just couldn't help myself and got stuck into it this evening after work 😂 the car is no longer in pieces and is now back as it should Horn is now in and working and a small change at the rear you wouldn't really notice which is replacing the boot struts. Many years ago I had the idea of having one of those fangled boot poppers that opened the boot on its own, I got about 80% completed on it and never finished it so the boot would always take your head off when you opened it 🤣 replaced with some OE matching Febi struts which is way better, boot poppers are still in so it opens on the push of a button (generally the button unlatches it but you still have to press the button on the boot to open it 🤦🏻‍♂️)
  6. I think it shows your a/c works better than newer ones.
  7. Where in the New Forest? PM me if you like. Thanks. AG Falco
  8. If you haven't recently driven it for a good distance at a steady speed above 40mph for over half an hour, I would do that first.
  9. Yep - that's a lot more unpleasant than the odd marks lower down. The dampness on the spring is oil which should be inside the shock. Time to get the wallet out (and buy your mechanic a beer). 10 years though!
  10. Doesn't look much like a leak. I'd clean it all off , inspect, then inspect again in a couple of weeks. Having said that, if they're the originals, they've done pretty well. You might be looking at replacing the pair at MoT time.
  11. I recently bought 2 second hand Gemini's from an ebay seller called synetiq. They weren't perfect quality but they worked, and are in good enough nick that they can be restored. Not ideal but definitely the cheaper option for you.
  12. The trouble is in the OCU not in infotainment, dealer can help to you restoring that unit.
  13. Go to Euro Car Parts and enter your cars registration. It will tell you what oil to get. I bought a 1ltr of oil for topping up purposes for about £10, after I noticed it was getting low last time and popped about ⅓ ltr of the existing bottle in last time, which put the oil level right to the top of the indicator. Halfords is expensive unless they are doing deals or you can find voucher codes. Or are absolutely desperate, also try getting fuel apps as they often have special offers for oils/lubricants.
  14. Yikes! Danger, Will Robinson. Some sort of expert intervention is needed ASAP.
  15. The lock mech is fine actually, brass is lovely. It’s just the galvanised steel mech on the back is a bit gritty. Really it’s just cosmetic. The drivers lock is a little fiddly from being worn from use, but I could swap the left and right locks and get a less used barrel on the drivers side. One of my keys is a little bent which is dull but I think a tap on the vise anvil will sort that out.
  16. I'd be soaking the originals in a tub of diesel or some kind of light oil for a while and see if they free up. When it comes to that side of things the original stuff seemed to be built to last. As such, so long as it's not powder and brown flakes, it should be rescueable.
  17. Actually, ignore that. I worked out you needed to set home as a saved charging location first and then it all appeared.
  18. Also for me! Finally! 😎
  19. You'll get it in shares next
  20. Thanks guys. These are all super useful answers! It looks like I will be looking for a fullsized 16" spare I reckons! I will do a double check as suggested with taking a wheel off... But with expectations managed!
  21. Mine opens well once you give it it a minor push, but it doesn't really feel much different to the OEM ones that were on my Superb. In terms of the original stay, its open slightly less than that, but no real access issues with it like that. I raised the missing bolts issue to Ali Express and they processed a refund for the full amount. 😆

  23. I think you need a usb a to lightning cable for an iphone
  24. Fitted them, but it is s low open, with help, and whilst it holds the bonnet open you can't use the original stay. BTW B&Q do a pack of 8 pads 35 x 24 that are exactly the right size for the end of the extension mounts. I assumed everyone used thread lock as they are not nylock nuts. Also mounted them the same way up as @10tenmen as it gives more clearance around the main bonnet mount at the bottom. Though I am wondering if they might line up better the other way around, like @Hdsn555 then they might have a more springy open.
  25. Apologies... couldn't remember if it was 0.5l or 1litre. Anyhow OP car is still using waaayy to much oil. I've edited my previous posting.
  26. The 11 kW cable and charging unit i am back to using is twice the length of the one that came with the MINI. When i have to use an extension cable when away from home i have one of the boxes with me, but the charger has always been long enough from the building or outside socket to the car. Gray cable one is the one from MINI / BMW. I had the Boxes and extension cables before a EV for using for the vacuum cleaner or the Green House fan heater that was used to pre heat vehicles, or keep ice free during the day / night.
  27. P.S. the reason why you have the DPF light on is because the fact that engine oil is getting into the DPF and blocking it up. Urgently suggest getting it to a local VAG specialist for attention.
  28. Blimey - that's not good. The minimum mileage of distance to oil is 0.5l per 1000 kms so you are well under that. Assume you have the TDI180 engine; generally good engines. With that kind of oil usage, there has got to be a fairly catastrophic level of consumption going on. Check your EGR valve is not bypassing oil into the burn cycle. Also check that the turbo hasn't failed and is bypassing oil too. It's also a possibility that you have serious engine wear or the oil rings have stuck one of the cylinders. Check your coolant - if you have oil in there, it maybe the cylinder head gasket that has failed.
  29. I forgot to write that the maps are for Europe.
  30. Hey @archi332 good to know you've joined the coding club 😁 Your next mission is to work out how to change the colours when you put the background lighting into 'mode' mode. Instructions on how to do it on a golf are here: https://www.vwgolfcommunity.com/vb/forum/vw-golf-world/vw-golf-8/interni-ad/1414069-luci-ambientali-preimpostati-come-modificare (Google translate will do the obvious) But essentially it's module 09 > interior-light-general> mapping_fpa_profile_xx. You need to change the value and see what happens! I've done the attached so far! Ideally I want the following Normal - white ECO - green Comfort - pale blue Sport - red Individual - purple My current setting is the last entry in the spreadsheet, and it's not ideal! Have fun! Mk4 interior lights.xlsx

  32. You’re right there , that’s why I brought a 1.6tdi , copes well with the short motorway stretch I do and is good around town
  33. Not a fan TBH... It looks like it's crashed through a Halfords or Ripspeed catalogue... Rather naff... the old Honda Civic was the same.
  34. Oil & filter changed at 55k.
  35. Welded up the drilled out spots on the back side drilled out for plug welds First tacks Fire dept violence and alignment grumbly tin Making sure we didn't get it too wrong All other crimes will be dealt with by seam sealer in great big globs The error lol Then a migraine hit and I crawled to bed for a couple of hours sleep, lol. I had intended to go get another bottle of gas for 'whatever needs glued together next' but couldn't. I checked the wiper motor assy still went in and it does, perfectly. This feels like a bit of a milestone. We also test sprayed some of the colour from the can onto an old wing and it looks lush, but you don't get to see.
  36. You may be annoyed with yourself for that little mistake but even so the rest is pretty good all the same.
  37. Realising the best before date on the windscreen glue is in two weeks time I figured I'd better pick my socks up, so in between clouds and during my lunch break I went hard at the mess: There's dampening material down the engine side of the firewall which is going to need some serious protection when it's welding time. I think I'll use some of my steel sheet and slide a big panel down behind the damping so we don't instantly go on fire and I'll get a hose on standby. Anyway, this is the as yet closest test fit I achieved before the rain came: It's getting cloooossseeerrrrr
  38. Broken wires in the door hinge area are super-common on this platform. Start with the front doors.

Well would you believe it … no disc in the car 😬🙄. Better email the dealer 🤔
