  1. Ah so basically a thin film just to line the walls

I should add I know this to be true, as I used it to trickle charge the 280 during Covid, and kept the battery In perfect condition in the Superb MKI which sat in the garden for three years before we sold it.

The one in the boot is permanent live.
  4. It's not a wet belt in the traditional sense of it being a wet cambelt which is an issue. The 'wet' belt in your engine is a small belt separate to the cambelt in the sump that drives an oil pump. There have been no reports of issues with it over many years of use
  5. Hi all. Dave from London here in my green wagon
  6. ….and perhaps find out why it’s consuming so much oil too?
  7. All you want is sufficient to provide a temporary seal around the piston rings - say one or two squirts of an old-style oil can per cylinder. Too much oil in a cylinder will give misleading readings, and in worst case, could result in hydro-locking cylinder.
  8. Personally I'd use a carnauba wash 'n' wax but that won't be popular here. Don't be tight with spraying it on. Use a clean microfibre cloth to apply, a separate clean microfibre cloth to buff off and a third clean microfibre cloth for "extra shine". When the application cloth gets too loaded stop using it and use the buff microfibre cloth instead for application and new or third cloth for buffing and new clean microfibre cloth for "extra shine". I usually clean the wheels separately and/or last because of brake dust. That should stir up the cleaners enough to post.
  9. Hi, welcome. If you've not already seen it, along with all the other subjects and sections on this site is a section for Octavias and forums for the Octavia Mk2 (3) Guides and Projects. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/ You are best to add Octavia to your model information for when posting outside the Octavia section and forums. Nice colour. Good luck.
  10. Do a dry compression test and note readings. Then add a little oil to each piston and do another. If the results are a good bit higher after oil it may be a piston ring problem. If nothing changes much then its probably HG or valves. Hope its something fairly simple. Have had broken spring on valves before and got misfire plus very low compression. Garage managed to repair with head in place. They fed soft string into sparkplug hole and turned engine over carefully and using piston to jam valve and managed to compress spring to replace. Alasdair
  11. If your engine is consuming such large quantities of oil as to require topping-up every time you refuel, why not consider carrying a couple of litres of the correct spec oil in your car? - clearly would be much cheaper and always available.
  12. The oil in throttle body and blue smoke as you say in bits so I assume its not all the time. My old volvo 940 used to do the same re smoke. If it was idling for a while when I took off it produced blue smoke due to seals failing in turbo which cleared once driving. The intercooler on mine was full of oil. It may be that the smoke and misfire are not related and are coincidence but the low pressure test reading does point to HG or valve spring/seating problem. I would redo the pressure test to make absolutely sure. I normally remove all plugs so engine spins at max speed. If its the same then further inspection of head/valves I think is required. It may be that the valves on the cylinders that are low and lower are carboned up so not making a good seal especially c3 or as said weak broken springs. Check the coolant level plus check for any signs of oil/bubbles in coolant. Alasdair
  13. C3 and C4 are way down especially C3 at 20psi . It could be a failed HG on C3 and maybe C4 but it could be a broken valve spring or burnt out valve etc. The misfire will be down to poor compression on 4 and no compression on 3. Unless theres an obvious broken valve spring I reckon head may have to come off to check. Alasdair

  15. Thanks Pete, I did check and I had previously ordered the other part (which indeed is the headlight washer grommet). The two numbers are very similar which doesnt help. I'll post on here to confirm once i have 443955465 that its the correct one.
  16. Set the handbrake cable correctly (from memory is only 1mm gap at the caliper end) then see if you still have a problem.
  17. There were three different versions of window motor during Roomster production, and one of the changeovers was in 2010, so need VIN to check part numbers if you don't want to take door card off to look. I'll message you so that you can reply to my message with VIN, then I can check for you. You don't yet have enough posts to initiate a PM conversation.
  18. Hello, no I wasn't planning on any 'surgery', I was hoping the filter was on top of the 'box? If not it'll be just an oil drain and refil
  19. Does the handbrake now have a longer travel? If so you may have not set the correct cable clearance at the calipers and this can show up as a longer initial footbrake travel. However this will not account for the slow downward movement. I read somewhere that if air has got into the ABS pump you will need to use a procedure (VCDS or similar) which runs the pump to expell the air.
  20. For info thier engines have wet CAMBELTS. Your doesn't have a wet cambelt, as I mentioned above.
  21. Glad you got a result in the end 👍 Most dealers are pretty much useless when it comes to EVs and software in particular. Reporting potential software issues directly to Škoda via the app usually gets a quicker response. Have you signed up to the Škoda EV Lounge on facebook? A great resource run by Škoda. https://www.facebook.com/SkodaEVLounge/
  22. Another possible option: use a diagnostic tool to access the 5F control unit, go to basic settings, delete navigation data (this should format the navigation system's memory area), then insert a USB stick containing the navigation data.
  23. How about this one? 😂😂
  24. That's about 4,000 miles since the MOT test in mid-February. At this rate it'll be nudging 120,000 by June. Not bad for 20 years old this year!
  25. Had for about this thread 🙄 Saw these little beauties in Bernkastel-Kues (Mosel Valley, Germany) the other week
  26. Much more likely to be oil cooler.
  27. For those who prefer to see the list of VCDS owners in a map format then take a look at this link. If you need VCP then there is also a map of owners here (PM me if you want to be added to the VCP map with your contact details) The current release of VCDS can be found HERE (Not for use with 3rd party interfaces!) If you have genuine Ross-Tech VCDS (VAG-COM) or genuine Vag Tech VCP (Vag Can Pro) and are willing to assist other members, then please post the required information using the ‘Add Reply’ button and we will then amend this list to include you. When this has been done your post will be deleted to keep this thread tidy. Please remember to include which type of cable you have. Cars built from 2015 are now starting to use some controllers that the HEX-CAN / Micro-CAN interfaces cannot read, for these you will need the latest HEX-V2 or HEX-NET interface. Details of members who have not visited Briskoda within the past 2 years and those whose names no longer exist in the list of members will be deleted to help keep the list current. If you change your username or move areas then please inform us via this thread so we can update the list – please include your old username and location to make it easier for us to update the list. (If you have disappeared off the list, have you changed your username??) When your post disappears from this thread, you are on the list and map. THIS LIST AND THE MAP IS PURELY FOR VCDS + VCP if you have a handheld type of scanner and you wish to offer your services then you are asked to add a line or two in your signature. Please be patient as I can’t always update the list and map midweek. _______________________________________________________________________ Vehicles require the following systems: Citigo (NF) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN / Micro-CAN Felicia (6U) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Pick Up (67) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Fabia I (6Y) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Fabia II (5J) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Rapid (NH) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Octavia I (1U) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Octavia II (1Z) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN / Micro-CAN Octavia III (5E) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN* / Micro-CAN* Roomster (5J) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Yeti (5L) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN / Micro-CAN Kodiaq = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN* / Micro-CAN* Karoq = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN* / Micro-CAN* Superb I (3U) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN Superb II (3T) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN / Micro-CAN Superb III (3V) = HEX-NET / HEX-V2 / HEX+CAN* / Micro-CAN* * = vehicles from 2015 may use controllers that the HEX+CAN & Micro-CAN can no longer read, for these you will need the HEX-V2 or HEX-NET interfaces. If you want to contact a member for help with VCDS please either hover over their username on their profile or a post they have made, a window will appear with “Send message” either click on this or click on their username and the hyper-link will take you to their profile, from there you can send them a PM. You can also tag them in your post by typing their name after an '@' for example type: @Gizmo and you will get a list of members who's username starts with Gizmo: click on the person you want to tag, providing they have notifications set up they will get an email with a link to the post. Before you send a message look at the ‘Last Active’ date, if the member has not visited Briskoda for several months then it will be unlikely that they will reply to your PM, in this instance try another local member. It is also worth satisfying yourself that the VCDS owner has sufficient knowledge and experience before they make any changes to your car and what costs are involved, some will do it for free, others will ask for ‘a drink’ and there are a few that offer this as part of their job so will have a set fee. The area members have been grouped into are NOT exact, but simply to help others locate you. _______________________________________________________________________ Location = Briskoda Username = Cable Type Scotland Aberdeenshire = w.t100 = VCDS N. 28. Many thanks. So what settings have you on the car for battery management? It seems like the Elroq automatically will only charge to 80%! Also, is a log of charging levels recorded and can Skoda check this if you make a warranty claim?
  29. If the oil warning came on when driving I have stopped at the next petrol station or supermarket and I have been in the situation where I could not get the exact oil, so chose the next best. In the case of Ford and Stelantis - Renault, Vauxhall - this apparently can be enough to damage wet belts. This kind of illegal.
