  1. Hi - a quick summary of my recent adventures. With a very special thanks to briskoda forum members Urrell, langers2k, Sad555, ernieb and kenfowler3966. My 9-year old Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI had a slightly rough idle, slightly underwhelming performance and - most importantly - a warning light for glow plugs (flashing). The code was EGR Valve - Open Circuit (P040300). I had an independent garage check it out, and I bought my own scanner to confirm. As the car had the fix just under two years ago, following advice from this forum, I contacted Skoda UK customer services. Skoda UK immediately agreed to a free diagnostic and to replace the EGR valve free of charge. This took two days and is now just back from the Skoda garage. The rough idle has gone, performance is normal again and no light. I asked the garage whether the EGR had failed electronically or because of sticking (caused by 'coke'). They confirmed it was the latter, it was 'coked up'. I do a lot of short city runs, and will be trying to get the car out for longer motorway runs to try to reduce the potential for this happening again. I'm also going to use my scanner to monitor the PDF filter, which also has a sensor. Again, my thanks to the forum and in particular Urrell and kenfowler3966. You saved me near enough a thousand pounds! Best wishes, Duddy.

  2. Only a week before did I decided to get off my arse and do Scotland's Nc500, 500 miles in a turbo/supercharged fabia combi on scenic long roads by myself? Hell yeah! Sorry for the picture overload, I've kept the pictures as low quality as possible to try not kill your browsers. Lets have it! Loaded up the fabia will fuel and essentials and headed off, My first 3 hours would be spent just getting to the start at Inverness. Reached Inverness In no time and proceeded up the east coast of Scotland while visiting a few places on the way before reaching my accommodation( Bower Wig Wams) in Wick Dunrobin Castle, Golspie Second day seen me travel the whole breadth of the North of Scotland form east to west, I've seen most of Scotland before but this place will stick in my memories forever and I seen my first puffin! As you travel from east to west the beaches and views only get better. Dunnet Bay, Thurso. 2 miles of pure white and aqua blue water.....Best beach in Britain in my opinion. As you make your way across the north coast through the Bay of Tongue and towards Durness the beaches continue to be as spectacular however the landscape get a bit more rugged. Ardvreck castle from above Decided to camp up on Balnakiel Beach for the night, Had the whole beach to myself...... To my surprise I woke up to the sun splitting the sky and some visitors.......Yep its 7am and the cows are crossing the beach to reach a fresh water stream, Apparently a daily occurrence Leaving Durness Your pretty much in the most north westerly point in the UK, Visited a few places before heading south down the west coast and entering Wester Ross(Game of thrones fans will grin). Smoo Cave The landscape changes dramatically on the west coast, Huge rolling mountains start to appear as I headed south towards Ullapool,Gairloch and Applecross. After staying in Ullapool for the night I was off sharp in the morning for another spectacular drive south west, Passing the Kylesku bridge and hotel for some well needed grub! From here I continued south through Wester Ross at which point he NC500 heads to Applecross then Back to Inverness, I went off track and headed home via Skye, Fort WIlliam and Glencoe When reaching Applecross you encourter the "Bealach Na Ba" mountain pass, Regarded as one of if not the best roads in Britain with views of the Isle of Skye to the West and The mountain pass on the other. Deciding I could probably be home for midnight I cut my last day short and blasted the 6 hour journey home passing "Eilean donan castle" and the might " Buchaille Etive Mor" mountain in Glencoe. So nearly 3 tanks of fuel and 960 miles later I made it home, Car was awesome, Weather was awesome and the scenery was even better! Would highly recommend anyone to head up north and just do it, The road conditions are perfect and if you get the weather......I don't think may places in the world could top it. I'll hopefully have a drone vid posted up soon. Thanks for reading.

  5. Yes, 100% normal - the engine ECU keeps the light on until it is able to check that the engine is running normally.

  6. There was very little traffic when I done it even though I was warned that "its so busy now" and "there's motorhomes everywhere", I drove 200 miles of single track roads and only had to reverse once as there's parking spaces everywhere. If you can get the weather there's not many places in the world tat can rival it.

  9. All good products and deliver great results - no question on that. Megs polishes though - just a bit dusty if over worked i find. Some of the newer Sonax, Gyeon, Koch Chemie compounds are much lower dust ..plus longer working times too thanks to a much improved carrier system in the polish. Worth a try if you get chance

  10. I trust myself to do a better job than main dealers, at least for the basics. (Oil filter, oil, air filter, spark plugs on petrols) Bigger items that I don't have the facilities or knowledge to do I go to a decent independent. As my cars get newer, there's less that I can do myself I find.

  15. Can’t imagine your insurer would replace an intact windscreen. I think your only option here is through the supplying dealership under SOGA. The other dealer has pretty much confirmed it’s not covered under warranty. You mentioned the fault was there at time of purchase and there was a verbal agreement as part of the sale to rectify. You really need to get something in writing to the supplying dealer regarding the fault and take it from there.

  20. Try using Adobe Reader to view the pdf manual and search (ctrl +f) for "Removing and installing brake linings" - page 1639 on my copy for a relevant hit ( make sure you are on the right part of the manual for your model - sections repeat). Since there is no instruction to open the bleed nipple and a warning to lower the master cylinder fluid level to prevent overflow then Skoda are happy to push fluid back through the system??

  23. I was in the market 4mths ago and I'd of been interested in yours because its got reasonably low mileage but I would of held back on the cash so I had enough to get a new set of black rub strips, sorry but it defeats the object a bit if they are painted and I prefere them black (just personal choice) Anyway back in March I paid £1800 for a standard 54-plate Corrida red hatch with 74k, 2 previous owners and full history so there is your guide. I reckon £1750 for yours

  26. When the Mazda's headlight bulb went I looked on t'interweb for instructions and they all said the same – turn full lock, remove the liner, and even better, the whole bumper. Screw that, I thought. Anyway, with a bit of hand scraping and cursing I replaced it from the top. I've done a couple now, both sides, and it's a piece of cake. Sometimes the internet is wrong. Who'd a thunk it

  32. If it is sitting in such a way that there's a big arch gap you may be able to get in and prize up the plastic boot on the shock absorber and look under it. Easiest way is to jack it up a little. Don't have to take the wheel off.

  33. Probably not particularly new or original but - parking. Supermarket car park only about half full, park in the most deserted part, furthest from building. Come back out 10 minutes later nothing much changed but car still had to park uncomfortably close to mine, could start to get a bit paranoid.

  37. OK final update on the issue of the blowing fuse... After bumping up the rating of fuse F4 from 5 amp to 10 amp I heard the sizzle *POP* of something burning out in the engine bay. But afterwards everything appeared to work fine !! But I was convinced that something had burnt out (am familiar to the smell of burnt out motors etc) I ran vcds, cleared all faults and only 1 returned... "Air quality sensor OPEN or SHORT circuit". Went on a mission to find location of the air quality sensor - am pleased to say I did indeed find it and it was definitely burnt out ! So for the benefit of anyone coming across this post due to similar symptoms, here is what the trouble was for me... I suspect that a previous post from someone saying he fitted a bigger fuse and the problem went away was probably similar issue - but under normal driving conditions you would never even notice if the air quality sensor was working or not (they're a bit rubbish at what they do anyway !) My short was caused by the air quality sensor - Part number 1k007659 It is located under the black plastic cover which is at the bottom of the windshield (the guard which covers the window wiper motors). It is on the PASSENGER side of the vehicle - thankfully that half of the cover simply pulls off without having to remove wiper blades. Under there is another black cover held on with 2 torx screws (this covers up the main air intake into the cabin) The sensor is clipped to the side of the air intake box with a steel folded clip which has barbs on it to grip the plastic. The sensor is connected via a 3 wire plug. Hopefully there should be some pics below showing the location of sensor and how it was burnt across its pins.... Location of sensor - right hand side of engine bay right up near windscreen... in bottom left corner of that grille... Sensor is near bottom left hand corner of the grille clipped to plastic. . The connector to my sensor showing evidence of burning... The sensor itself showing the melted plastic around the connection pins (one pin was very wobbly - almost falling out) It also smelled like burnt out motor. I am pleased to have found this and hope it helps other people. Looking back at the posts I realise that this is all thanks to Wino and a666andy who suggested upping the fuse rating. (Which led to the distinct "snap, crackle, *POP* followed by a burning smell !) NOTE TO Andy..... It might be worth checking your air quality sensor, if you situation is like mine, then upping the amperage of the fuse might have simply burnt out the sensor completely thus allowing the other devices to function correctly... Not that it really matters if the air quality sensor is not working ! Many thanks to everyone ! Forums and Professor Google have saved me 100's of pounds by avoiding paying out for hours of electrical fault finding (and I've learned more about my car in the process) Do Haynes not make a manual for the Skoda Superb !>!??

  38. I noticed my front indicator wasn't working, had to take the headlight out to get to the back of the indicator to check the wiring. I managed to drop a screw into the void of doom, never to be seen again, then got the light fixed, headlight back in, the last screw I put in snapped the metal clip it screws into, had to take it all out again to fix that. Old car life I guess! I wonder how long it has been out. That bus driver who called me a ****er for not indicating at a roundabout may have had had a point.

  39. Not been doing much to the Skoda recently as everyting on it continues to work as it should and I've got an MG ZS competition car to build. I did however get the wheels sorted out as the paint was flaking and bubbling and starting to look quite tatty so I had then shot blasted back to bare metal and powder coated in a nice gun metal grey colour. Looks much better now but I've never had perfect looking wheels before on any car I've had so I'm currently terrified of kerbs

  42. Passed the 200k mark this week in an 06 2.0TDI Not the first 2.0TDI to have done the distance, but I've done them all from new so know every mile. Very little motorway driving in that total, mainly A road driving Still on original clutch, exhaust, suspension and a screwdriver or spanner has never been anywhere near to the engine. New brakes and I've been very strict on good quality regular oil changes. Not bad value for money!

  47. @BossFox - I'm agreeing with you about the colours on the Cortina (and lots of people have tried to use those creases to create liveries, few as successfully as this). Jim Clark (no 'e') died 7th April 1968, which is into the Lotus Cortina mk2 production.

  48. I think it's fair to say we've had a busy few weekends... Sunday 15th July. Brands Hatch CSCC. Fiesta ST, Lotus Elan and Lotus Cortina. Amazing qualifying, taking pole in all three races. Me drivign all three with the ST co driven by Mike Bushell and Elan by Ross from JDR. Mike Bushell and Josh Jackson were also driving the Lotus Cortina to give it a shakedown in the second race the Elan was in. 1st Elan race went well, 40 minute race and brought home a win by almost 5 seconds. 2nd Elan race there was (unusually for a classic race) a few incidents, lots of cars struggling in the heat and a high attrition rate. I overtook an E Type that shot off at the start to take the lead and it pulled off 3 laps later with issues. With a third of the field not finishing we romped home with a two lap lead! The Cortina suffered a clutch cylinder expiring in the assembly area and so started two laps down in the pits, but still battled back to 6th overall! 3rd race, Fiesta ST. This was expected be tricky as we were using a spare gearbox with a less aggressive LSD. I managed to stay out in front off the line and managed to keep a small gap all the way to the pit stop. Mike Bushell then put in a great consistent drive and brought us home about a quarter of a lap clear. 3 races, 3 poles, 3 wins. Just amazing. On to Saturday 21st July. Masters "Silverstone Classic". This was the big one. The biggest classic car racing event in the UK with well over 300 cars there. We entered the "International Trophy for GT cars (pre-66) with the Lotus Elan. Our class being a 4cyl 1600 was the 2nd one, under 2000cc cars. The other class was over 2000cc and contained dozens of Cobras, E Types and other big power cars. Qualifying saw Jake Hill manage an amazing 7th overall, a great job considering the opposition and there being 58 cars on the grid. The rest of the top 14-15 cars were all the top class big engine cars with several Elans lower down. For the race he took off and being able to get on it right away had moved up to 4th within 2 laps, comfortable behind three very quick cars. Then a 911 rolled down the main straight and the safety car was deployed for 4 laps/20 minutes. This left 15 minutes to go when the green flag dropped. All the pit stops were done under the safety car and the positions got mixed up leaving us first of the front runners with three big power cars a few seconds back. As the green flag dropped Jake took off and knowing the cars behind were faster in a straight line he made sure to keep maximum corner speed everywhere he could, while fending off the E type behind. After a few laps the AC Cobra behind the E Type muscled it's way past and started to catch the Elan lap after lap, drawing alongside with a lap and a half to go, but slightly off line trying to force the Elan wide and compromise it's corner entry. But Jake knew that would allow the Cobra to breeze past on the straight so he kept it nailed and made the Elan as wide as he could, maintaining the perfect line in every corner. The Cobra tried a couple more times, but just couldn't get past, leaving the lower class placed Elan to maintain first all the way to the Chequered flag. An overall race WIN in a field of 58 cars in one of the main races at the biggest UK classic race weekend of 2018. I have no idea how we top this!
