There are two PTC versions, a 'dumb' and 'smart' version. The 'dumb' one uses relays and is controlled by the engine ECU so you have the security cage to deal with. Due to that, I opted for the the 'smart' version which has a CAN-bus controller built in so needed CAN-bus (rear of HVAC was easy) and 100a feed/ground. The only hard part was running the wires through the firewall as they were so chunky. I wasn't able to find much about the MQB 'smart' version... It seems to be 5Q0963235A looking at https://www.drive2.ru/b/519507975203717934/ although it's not entirely clear where the LIN connection goes or what coding is needed

The most reliable method is to connect diagnostic equipment and check the software version for the ECU If it's above around 9970, then it's been 'fixed'

Disconnect the battery Make sure it's charged up before you trade it in, simples

The RNS-510 style Columbus is the 'best' headunit that would have been originally fitted to that generation of Superb. There are versions with and without DAB The only 'better' genuine headunit that would meet your requirements is the MIB STD2 PQ style Amundsen as fitted to later (2015+) Yeti's. - 5L0025680A supports satnav, dab and mirrorlink - 5L0025680C or 5L0025680E support satnav, dab and smartlink (Android Auto and CarPlay) You would need to deal with component protection and get all functionality unlocked, then you'll need a quadlock adaptor and USB wiring kit (for mirrorlink/smartlink). That being said, they are a much better headunit than the aging RNS-510 style Columbus in my opinion. Just depends what you want to add and how much you're looking to spend

As above, either OBDeleven or VCDS should be able to code the towing module in. Did the kit come with full coding instructions? I only ask as you'll need to make changes in quite a few modules (depending on car spec) so its not a simple first coding challenge. Depending on your background, you may want to consider VCDS as you're likely to get better support if you have any problems.

@NikTheGeek - you're thinking of the PTC aux heater which as you say, is a 1KW electric element that sits in the HVAC system, I fitted one to my MK2 TDi Octavia and it certainly helped speed up warming the cabin through. What are you trying to achieve? If the trailer module supports coding I expect vcds or similar can code it 👍

If you take a closer look, you probably just need to trim the fakra keying down so they'll fit

Some people make LIN convertors which will take a signal from the MFSW and convert it into something more correct for your vehicle, something like that might be possible for your car I'm sure I saw something but I can't find it now! Pretty sure that'll be your problem, you need a MIB2.5 headunit to support the VC. I believe you can have your headunit converted into a MIB2.5 but you might need a new higher resolution (9.2"?) display. At least based on the linked thread below... I know it's for an Octavia but it should be similar for the Kodiaq. I'd drop Pab a PM and see what he can do for you

Pretty sure eco mode requires a FeC so it won't be possible by traditional coding using VCDS or similar. Instead, you'll probably need to find a knowledgeable retrofitter who can add the required entitlements to your car I'm afraid. For Android Auto, the obvious choices would be the MIB STD2 PQ style Bolero/Amundsen from a 2016+ Yeti or the Chinese RCD330. Having used both, I much preferred the Yeti headunit to the RCD330 although it costs more and need component protection dealing with. Either will cause battery drain if the CAN-gateway is on the 'naughty' list If I recall, the RCD330 had a few bugs around FM (no real RDS or AF support), volume and occasional missing BT connections. It's been a few years so later firmware's may be better? There are loads of aftermarket Chinese things but I've never used any. Otherwise, you can get a branded double din unit and appropriate facia adaptor. All down to you and what you want/expect really

None of those are actively checked for an MOT. The only related 'check' is that there isn't a warning light lit

When dealing with stop/start cars, I believe you should use a ground point on both cars (not the negative terminal) so the battery monitoring systems can see the the energy transfer

It was always the case that some funcitonally was a paid for add-on. However, at least for now, they've removed the service history for everyone.... Hopefully they'll bring it back :/

I don't think that's an elegance as it's clearly missing bi-xenon headlights too. It won't have a USB port with that style of Bolero either - odd as I'd expect a FL Yeti to get the MIB style Bolero...

Maybe it's being mis-advertised or maybe an imported model? If you add a link I'm sure someone with more Yeti knowledge will chip in

If I remember correctly, there are some changes on the MK4 Octavia VC's, namely the no longer have MOST (fibre optic) for the maps display so I doubt they will ever big a good choice for a MK3. At the very least, you'd probably need a MIB3 headunit to get things working properly. What headunit have you got and which software do you have? Can you add an autoscan and adaption map of 5F? Much like Krosta, adding the VC and getting the maps etc working was all pretty simple. After adding the fibre optic cable, a few tweaks on 5F and everything was working

A quick google doesn't suggest much for a MK3 Octavia/MK7 Golf EA288 TDi in the way of SMF conversions. Looks like you might need to stick with the DMF

If the coding was lost during the battery replacement by Halfords, I'd demand Halfords fix it. Even if that is just Halfords paying Skoda to recode it...

At some point I'd expect them ulez to ban euro 5 petrol cars. I'd also expect all petrol and diesel cars to be banned in the future 😉 As far as I'm aware, there are no plans to ban euro 5 petrol so it's fine for now depending how long she is likely to keep it. Actual Londoners may know more 👍
