KESSY starting issue after changing key battery
Re-sync of either fob for the Fabia was not necessary, all ok once I got new battery fitted. Oddly, the fob battery for the Octavia failed this morning, got the car open at home - but with a warning 'replace key battery', drove to work and fob wouldn't lock vehicle! Another P$%y Duracell! Now fitting all fobs with fresh energizers.

KESSY starting issue after changing key battery
Another Fabia3 with this odd problem - I got a panic call from my wife, she and a friend were locked-out of her car at the garden centre 6 miles away, cue quick rescue run after talking her through the emergency unlocking procedure - which just set off the alarm when she opened door! Message on matrix display 'key not found'. No indicator light showing on key fob when buttons pressed. Replaced fob battery when I got to her (fresh Duracell 2025, BB4 date, 2025) - still nothing, OK, dead fob I thought! Fortunately I had taken the spare key with me, which got her back home. Once home I tested the new battery in the non-functioning fob - 3.28 volts but still no indicator light showing when buttons pressed! then tried swapping over with the old battery from my Octavia (non kessy) fob - Fabia fob now working correctly! I can only guess that the new Duracell battery has some internal fault, even though the voltage output is ok on a DMM! I guess it's time to reorder fresh cells from another brand.

ESP fault when using self-parking
Hi Trenchman, have you had the battery tested recently? I'm guessing that the electro-assisted steering will be loading battery during this maneuver and battery voltage dropping too low - clue being the steering going 'dead'

Engine Stop/Start Behaving Dangerously
As a suggestion, don't let the engine revs fall below approx 1100-1200 RPM when shifting into a higher gear at low speed, which will probably mean shifting up at around 2000 RPM.

So I went and bought a Jaaaag
Ok, something fast enougth to need cross-drilled discs.

You're not being a lot of help Amanda. What a tease!

Engine Stop/Start Behaving Dangerously
A correction - you must have sufficient pressure on the brake pedal OR the hand-brake on.

Engine Stop/Start Behaving Dangerously
I agree with Skoda1982, you must be stalling the engine at that slow speed - it can't be the stop-start shutting down the engine because the operation of this is inhibited when the clutch pedal is down (as you change gear).

Willberpog? You really should stop inhaling those substances Amanda.

Timing Chain problem and confusion
So that's a 'take it to VW' next time any servicing is due, is it not Illiteratus? Sounds like someone at Skoda Aus. needs retraining.

Does gearbox from 2.0 tdi superb fits on 1.6 tdi both 6 speed
Hi yan, a possibility that the gearbox might match - but the gear ratios almost certainly will be 'taller' in the 2 litre version.

1.2 TSI Sudden knocking noise!
Hi Meridion, welcome to the forum - assuming E10 is accepted for CBZB, change of fuel should not be cause - engine management should be able to cope with it. Possibly a noisy valve-follower (hydraulic) in which case not a cause for concern - failing timing chain/chain tensioner, especially at your mileage, is a distinct possibility and should be checked ASAP.

Octavia EPC and rattling noise!
Not to worry you too much, but take a look at a posting by DGW started 17/3/2013 under the topic heading of 1.8 & 2.0 TSI engine failures.

Octavia EPC and rattling noise!
Should have asked earlier is this a 1.8 or 2.0 TSI? Issues with cam chain are seemingly not uncommon with these engines, although it is apparently not an item scheduled for routine maintenance! Engine code (rather than engine number) is a series 4 letters - I think this will be on VIN plate. Ie. - CCTA; CBFA; CAEA; CDNC; etc. Have you seen any sign of issues with low oil pressure, especially at idle? - the chain tensioner operates through oil pressure. I hope someone with experiance on your engine can jump in and offer better advice - but critical thing to do straight off is to get chain and tensioner inspected.
-
Octavia EPC and rattling noise!
Hi, seeing as you say this noise came on suddenly and was loud enough to be heard inside the cabin, I'd say there is a strong possibility that the camchain has 'jumped' one or several teeth on the cam sprockets - this could be through chain-stretch or from failure of the chain tensioner, although sunnen onset would suggest the tensioner. This is likely to serious if the valve timing gets out far enough to allow them to contact the pistons. Is there any service history for camchain or tensioner? Do you know engine type number? Eg. EA888.

Octavia EPC and rattling noise!
I was going to ask if TSI or TDI - but I see answer at bottom of your post.

Octavia EPC and rattling noise!
Urgently get the camchain and tensioner checked - do not drive until this is done. Did the EPC warning only light up momentarily, then extinguish without any action from you?

Battery replacement advice?
Hello Ed, you will definitely need to code the new battery into the BMS if you are changing from EFB to AGM. Even if you replace exactly like for like you should have the new battery coded in with at least a new serial number as the BMS will have made allowances for any faults in the old one, failure to do this can cause issues with the new battery, which could affect its performance and life.

Retrofit questions from a new owner.
As a suggestion, get yourself a good tyre pressure gauge and a electric pump (plug in 12 volt type) from your favorite online supermarket, check what the existing pressures are and try running them up at the 'ECO' settings on the tyre plaque according to your normal loading - then progressively drop the pressures approx. 1 psi at a time and see if you start to like the ride more.

Retrofit questions from a new owner.
Hi Beki, given the state of the coolant level after the service, I would not trust them to have checked the tyre pressures. If the perceived poor ride is not due to incorrect pressures, I don't think there is much that you realistically can do to improve - 16 inch, 55 profile is about as good as you can get without major suspension changes.

Cambelt change interval ?
I've just had my cambelt changed at 6 years, having travelled just over 21K miles - given the condition of the belt and tensioner removed I'd be perfectly happy to have have delayed the change interval for at least another couple of years. No signs of any deterioration, inside or out, on either the cam or waterpump belt, the tensioner looked almost as if it had just come new out of a box.
