  1. I'd suggest a full coolant change at the same time - in order to avoid air locks in the cooling system, it's worth considering vacuum filling (or similar) when refilling the system.
  2. As per my post above, just replace the tank - you can get good quality OEM ones for around £15. Make sure the replacement is not 'Mit Silikat' Suggest getting a pair of proper (inexpensive) hose clip pliers - makes the job so much easier and useful for other hose tasks in future (like air filter replacement)
  3. Unless the coolant has become contaminated again - or incorrect coolant has been used, there shouldn't be any staining of the tank.
  4. The simplest way would be to just replace the tank. There are plenty of OEM quality tanks available without needing to buy VAG.
  5. also carefully check the threaded neck of the expansion tank when you clean it up.
  6. Yes, that is what happens if a dashcam is left powered with the ignition off.
  7. One thing to remember, all of the vehicle control modules will be in awake mode, so current drain on battery will be considerably more than just the tv tuner.
  8. Sounds like a good plan to replace the cap first. Make sure the replacement is genuine OEM quality.
  9. I have just realised, if you currently have G12evo, the coolant has almost certainly been changed at least once since it left the factory - IIRC it would originally have had G12 or G13.
  10. Hi, you say 'digital temperature gauge' - is this the Maxi Dot oil temperature reading?
  11. Hello, welcome to the forum. Personally, I'd tend to believe the online spec over the dealer. There is an easy way to test - try switching to HB in an area with good street lighting (without oncoming traffic) - if you need to push the HB stalk forward twice before they switch to high-beam (blue tell-tale indicator lit) - you have HBA.
  12. Hello, welcome to the forum. The fuse ratings are marked on the fuse - replace like for like.
  13. Hello, welcome to the forum. Is there a warranty with this car? if so, I'd seriously consider rejection.
  14. If new service centre does not offer, politely insist on battery condition and alternator output test be carried out as 1st priority.
  15. If you do have G12evo in the system at present - and if that G40 is in fact equivalent to G12++ (check first) it will be compatible. If you do not know if the coolant has ever been changed since it left the factory, suggest a complete change.
  16. When I built engines, I staggered the ring gaps around the piston as was the recommended practice.
  17. What are you using at present - 95? Doubtful that going to super unleaded would give a significant increase - you might see a slight decrease in consumption, which could balance the higher cost of super ( this is what I see this in my Octavia) Don't use any fuel additive - not necessary. What is the odo reading, do you know if the spark plugs have been changed? I'm wondering if you are having a turbo underboost issue.
  18. If they are Xenon (HID) lamps, a pinkish tint is usually an indication the lamp is approaching end of life. Do the other (good) lamps appear to have a blueish tinge?
  19. Hello, do you know if your headlights are halogen or Xenon?
  20. Hi, is this a manual or DSG gearbox? Check wheel hubs for unusual heat after a drive, it's possible that the brakes have started binding.
  21. Never assume anything! Get battery condition and alternator output tested.
  22. 'Pulled rearwards'
  23. Has the battery been properly tested and eliminated as the cause?
  24. As a first move, get the alternator output and the battery tested.
