Flag for @ApertureS who can probably give you the answer.
  2. Hello Philip, welcome to the forum. I believe that Traffic Master TMC was switched off sometime last year - widely reported on the forum. Try searching TMS. I recall seeing that there was a work round to access traffic information from another source. @Yogi-Bear posted really useful details on this recently.
  3. The LED replacement fitting gives much improved light output, if going down this route, go for units with good review ratings.
  4. I believe that the type 096 is the maximum size that will fit the Octavia 3. Don't forget the adaptation.
  5. Quite apart from the low weekly mileage causing extra DPF regens - I'd suggest getting the coolant fan thermostats tested for correct temperature operating range.
  6. +1 for anticipation - change up to highest gear possible while remaining sympathetic to engine, coast (in gear) avoid braking where possible and imagine there is an egg between your right foot and throttle.
  7. The maxi-dot display is the small square one between the rec counter and speedometer - accessed via the right hand roller switch on the steering wheel.
  8. There are separate settings in the maxi-dot display - one for 'consumption' and one for 'average consumption'
  9. IIRC, the OEM lamp capsules in my Mk3 were 'capless' type - where there are just two bent wire connections at the bottom of the capsule. Is that what yours looks like? You could also consider replacing the complete light unit with a LED type fitting.
  10. I'd strongly advise considering replacing the expansion tank for one without the silikat bag.
  11. Instantaneous fuel use figures under acceleration are practically of no use - as are the figures achieved during overrun / downhill. Avoid using spot readings and set the fuel computer to average setting - although it is common for the readings of these computers to be a little optimistic. The only accurate method to check consumption is to calculate tank to tank fills.
  12. Hello, welcome to the forum. I assume that you also changed the adaptation setting for the new battery capacity? That looks like pretty slow average speed, does your vehicle have automatic idle stop? What were your consumption figures before the change? Has anything else been changed?
  13. That type of issue is often caused by a poor ground (chassis earth) connection - have you checked the ground connection from engine to chassis?
  14. You could try asking @ApertureS He might spot this tag.
  15. Hello, welcome to the forum. Hoping that you manage to get issues sorted before hitting the road out in the US of A. Are you losing coolant? Was there any sign of water in the oil. Were there any DTC error codes?
  16. Welcome to the forum. Bubbles in the coolant could be something like air in the system - or possibly an issue with the head gasket. Both can cause a drop in coolant level. Does the coolant have an odd smell?
  17. I particularly like the smooth pick up of the 1.4 150, even when revs are hovering down around 1200 - and easily able to hold 6th gear at around 40MPH.
  18. Not familiar with the output of the 1.2TSI, but even the 1.0 110 in SHMBOs Fabia would work OK in an Octavia - particularly around town.
  19. One considerable advantage of a DIY raised floor is you can increase the load rating - IIRC, the OEM one has a weight limit of 80Kg.
  20. @indars are you able to share the condition of your friend's cambelt and tensioner?
  21. I'm assuming that you mean the 'marker' lights (switch position immediately after 'Auto') - commonly called side lights, is that correct?
  22. Do the testers even check for a spare wheel nowadays?
  23. You might find it quicker and more comfortable to adapt your driving style - consistent late braking is almost certainly not the fastest way around a corner, why not try - set up the car on the run into the corner, follow the line through it (within your lane) and then accelerate out?
  24. Harder pad compound delays the onset of brake fade (where you run out of braking force due to overheating) They also have the property that once the brake material has been correctly conditioned, the pad (or lining) maintains a fade resistant surface when consistently used firmly.
  25. Or indicator stalk UP if parked facing traffic - although that is not legal at night in UK.
