DSG gearbox selector lever errors, TPI and replacement
I know that there are quite a few of us here who have been through the gearbox selector lever errors (P27F5) and ending up needing a replacement. Expensive. Some of you might have had that covered under warranty because of the TPI (2072480/4) that was issued. Some of you, like me, have had to pay out of pocket. Having been inspired by an article on Martin Lewis’s moneysaverexpert website about somebody who had bought a Ford and had a timing gear go and blow up the engine out of warranty who managed to claim the repair cost back through section 75 as they had paid with part of the purchase on their credit card. This person got all of their money back after the Financial Ombudsman ruled in their favour despite Ford denying responsibility. So I complained to Skoda about my out of warranty car not being covered. As expected, they said that there wouldn’t be a chance of that seeing as I used an independent garage to diagnose and do the repair before I realised that there was a TPI issued admitting a manufacturing problem with the gearbox selector unit. Mind you I don’t think they would’ve honoured this anyway as it was out of warranty, even if I had taken it to them and risked it with their ‘diagnostic charge’. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay for the car, even part of it, with a credit card so the financial ombudsman wouldn’t be able to help like it did with the Ford owner. Instead, I have raised a claim with the motoring ombudsman which they have accepted and are starting to investigate. So still early stages. I haven’t got any money back. But I would be interested to know if there are many others out there who have had a similar situation and been left out of pocket. Should this be a class action? Skoda gearbox.pdf

1.4TSi DSG advice needed
Menu/settings/scroll down to System information. Tap and you’ll see software. Latest is 1989. Bugs slowly got fixed with most updates. Insist the dealer gets it updated as it’s crucial for nearly normal car behaviour. Prior to this there were dangerous errors

1.4TSi DSG advice needed
Agree with all the above. Don’t touch unless there is a good length of full warranty. My gear selector lever slowly failed and as out of warranty was over a grand to replace. Trying a claim through motoring ombudsman. And check the software is up to date, see many many posts in these forums. Otherwise a lovely car especially if you mostly drive short distances and use cheap off peak electricity to charge then it becomes pretty cheap to run

New software available version 1989
I wonder if Skoda have pulled the OTA as it started downloading 3 days ago but has disappeared now without installing. Another mess. What testing do the Cariad idiots do?

New software available version 1989
It’s not possible to downgrade. To me it seems a bit suspect that a new version of software has appeared some time after the facelift. Especially as it’s only a few numbers after 1985. Hard to believe Cariad are still working on it. Is this an official release? How was it obtained? I think I’ll stick with 1985 despite it still being imperfect

Sat-Nav Maps Latest Version?
It works fine from a Mac. I’ve updated over several years with the files on a Mac transferred to a USB stick. Just needs an empty drive, use freeware Cleanmydrive if you need to to ensure no extraneous files. The crucial factor is often the USB drive, some just don’t work, no idea why

Traffic sign display from infotainment navigation in virtual cockpit and predictive cruise control
pACC aka Travel Assist has always worked for me. Not OBD, just how the car came. Slowing to match upcoming speed limit on map or when visualised, corners and roundabouts. When I say worked, it does its thing perfectly but is severely hampered in its usefulness by traffic sign NON recognition, out of date maps and inaccurate mapping feeding the wrong speed limit to the car’s brains and by recognising the wrong speed limit sign in other countries from the UK where the layout of the road signs differs to the UKs left hand drive positioning. Which makes trying to drive automatically abroad (and in the UK) a bit unpredictable and hair-raising at times… Still use it as much as possible though as long journeys are less taxing, on the whole

NEW: software 1985
So this must be the OTA update my service manager alluded to 2 weeks ago when I moaned about 1969 going bonkers again in France with days of boinging and dangerous ACC and non working traffic sign recognition. He said this has been an ongoing problem even in the UK for some peeps eg those on the Isle Of Wight who are a bit closer/close enough to France! He said Skoda central had announced a definitive update was rolling out to finally fix these issues. I check the update icon in the car on every ignition 😂. We shall see whether it does sort everything at last. I don’t care for the idiot who promised early on that 1969 would make the boot up time really quick, when it didn’t. Just a stable car that becomes very stressful and dangerous to drive on foreign roads. Re-boots after a long motorway drive when the ACC has been repeatedly trying to kill you by slamming brakes on isn’t much to ask.

Advice sought on iV pros and cons for my slightly unusual usage situation.
Correct and annoying when friends have phev’s that can take 22kW. Whenever you are it’s a slow charge. Basically it’s a plug in at home, hotel or during a long walk from a nice Nat Trust car park. At home I charge v cheaply with a flexible tariff but rarely bother when away camping, in Spain or France. Trying to get foreign chargers to work isn’t relaxing trying to download new apps, make them work or even finding their chargers. Even Octopus’ electroverse app (great in UK) piggybacks onto rubbish Spanish apps and their inaccurate maps, in my experience But for your short uk trips it’s great…

Aha. This is an iOS bug that this forum says is fixed in the 17.6 beta. Just gonna grab the public beta and will report back…

Update to Version 1969
Yes. In 🇬🇧. Started about 10 days ago so sort of matching release of iOS 17.5.1 but I’m still on 17.4.1. Slow to connect to car. Sometimes black screen instead of CarPlay. Sometimes starts ok then reverts to black after a while. Even though iPhone screen has CarPlay icon still ‘working’. Nothing reported yet on macrumors 17.5.1 bug forum https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-17-5-1-bug-fixes-changes-and-improvements.2426949/. I’ve been on 1969 for over a month so I’m really not sure what to blame. Have ‘forgotten’ car and re-connected but it’s started again

Have you updated to 1969 & How was/is it for you
Same here. No discernable difference from 1941 to 1969. Don’t bother

Update to Version 1969
https://drive.google.com/file/d/16S2ntsqY8tKp9u9zLxEGX4oaTf7Wp_pS/view?usp=drivesdk for those not based in the uk, it would be kind if you could share and publicise on your local Sķoda forums. The more people that get 1941 and 1969 the better cos Sķoda dealers on the whole don’t understand (or seem to care about) the problems we’ve all had living with their faulty cars. Once on 1941 and having had the SOS module replaced they are great cars, I’d go so far as to say it’s the most comfortable and satisfying car I’ve ever driven Happy updating 😃

Help can these cars ever work correctly
Read the infotainment system restarting thread. You can update the software to 1941 yourself, easily. Read page 26 of the thread and pm me if you want the file

Update to Version 1969
For those NOT native to the UK I would appreciate that once you have downloaded it, you make it available on your own forums in your own country as serving the whole of Europe’s needs is taking too much time. Thanks for understanding
