I see mannyo has now overtaken Mr D to 2nd place  Colin has been making excuses saying his cpu has been running too hot...

Well after my upgrade I've re-installed folding@home and have been running on and off this afternoon.

I'll have to try and catch up

I wonder if I can close the 2000 point gap to Colin G.

hehehe... well you seem to have more processing power than me

54% and counting now... I'm coming down the other side of the mountain!

Why am I getting o few points? :(

Just completed a 25,000 unit one for 50 points :(

Oops - folding seams to have slipped onto 2 PC's in work - don't know how that happened

Oh well 1 anyway - the second nearly dropped dead when I started folding :o

its only a 1.5ghz pentium with 128mb and 40gb harddrive

The second took all day to get to 22/50 units

Inching ever closer to Colin G. I need to find more computing power, that should do the trick.

Whoever said this would be addictive? :o MORE POWWWAAA!:nx:

Hi, I've joined your cause. The PC is pretty normal (2.6GHz I think) so nothing special but it looks like the briskoda team is really going well so quickly! I can run it 24/7 because it's all but silent - if you think it won't break! I don't usually!

What's "normal" for a PC nowadays?

My fastest machine is this laptop - 1.7GHz

My work laptop is a 1GHz

The fastest desktop in the house is a 350MHz :D

Should I be getting chip envy?

Haha this is pretty new less than a year old, but it wasn't exactly top of the range when I bought it, I think they are up to 3.4Ghz or something now. I just looked it up actually, mine's 2.4 not 2.6 as if anyone cared!

Ok then - what makes a good spec for an Uber folding machine ???

Ram ???

CPU ??? - speed or type ??

Hardrive ???

So far since my upgrade( ? ) I'm taking over 5mins per unit - my old o/c XP was doing 1min5secs - admited on a different project.

A 1.7G Pentium-M is pretty fast, and beats out a P4 3G on some things (and get's slaughtered on others :D).

Anything over about 1GHz is worth considering for this ;)

Think I'm up to around 60% now.... :o I WILL get my name on that league table. Even if its at the damn bottom. :)

Yay :) first one finished today so I'm officially on the board and helping the briskoda effort (as "Richard"). I seem to have leapfrogged a couple of people too so apologies to them - not sure why I get more points for one Wu than DGW gets for 3???

Welcome to the team :)

WUs are worth different amounts depending on the complexity and time they take to complete.

AARRGGHH!!!

Been running F@H for the best part of a week; left the PC on overnight, and during the day (only stopping for resource-hungry jobs or when Mrs KLB wanted to boot into Windows to play Space Cadet or whatever...).

Anyway, this evening, I got to 393 frames out of 400 on my first work unit. I wanted to run another resource hog job. "Shall I stop F@H first? Nah - it'll be fine..." Sure enough, the job filled up my /home filesystem.

Killed it, went back to see what F@H was doing. "Error trying to write checkpoint" (or some such message). I thought "No problem, it'll pick up from where it left off last time..." Restarted it:-

[17:36:06] Hashes matched on file work/wudata_03.dyn
[17:36:09] VerifyARCFile: Error reading chk file. Failed verification
[17:36:14] Starting from initial work packet
[17:36:14]
[17:36:14] Protein: p1139_p1133_L939_K12M_355K
[17:36:14] - Run: 147 (Clone 51, Gen 1)
[17:36:14] - Frames Completed: 0, Remaining: 400

AARRGGHH!!! It's starting from scratch!! A whole week wasted! :weeping: :weeping: :weeping:

Oh I see I thought that one took longer than I thought it's been running 24/7 since wednesday or thursday last week. Actually I see now that one was 400 the new one is only 200.

All for a good cause it seems worthwile, especially since it doesn't slow down the PC or anything which is cool. And PC hasn't exploded yet because of constant running so it's all good! :D

Mine died just over half way through, so I restarted it and it carried on with the same one but only took 30 mins per unit until it caught up with where it broke off before reverting to it's 2 hours per unit.

Now up to 70%... Hoping it doesn't "do a KLB" on me.
