Now up to 70%... Hoping it doesn't "do a KLB" on me.

From his description, you just need to be sure that you don't "do a KLB" on it ;)

(With apologies to Mike if I've mis-read)

mine's broke. hven't got the faculties to fix it......

Ok then - what makes a good spec for an Uber folding machine ???

Ram ???

CPU ??? - speed or type ??

Hardrive ???

So far since my upgrade( ? ) I'm taking over 5mins per unit - my old o/c XP was doing 1min5secs - admited on a different project.

I can't speak for the Windows version, but I know that the Linux version is limited by processor speed. It uses very little RAM, and only accesses the disk every so often to write checkpoints and intermediate data. Given the opportunity, though, it will use 100% of your CPU.

EDIT: Yes, Si - the disaster was my fault :o

Flippin eck manny.. your catching me :o every time i check youve got more CPUs on the go!

I Have reached the limit on cpu's now though. I seem to get close to you, then you manage to complete a big wu and I am back to square one.

SSE2 sure helps. Memory wise, lower latency is good. Depending on the core you are running, you may find memory amount available comes in handy as well. There are now some which have a big WU ;)

Yay another one done already - must have been a small one. Just been having a read through the website actually it's good stuff, gets a bit technical but you can see how it is helping...

I always know when there is a problem with their servers, as the traffic goes up big time on the FC site. It is definitely a good cause, not the only one around, but just something I kinda got hooked on.

On a little side-note - if you OC your CPU, you may find FAH starts to go a little nutz, it is a little more sensitive than some benchies appear to be, especially Gromacs ran hotter than some other 100% load things. You may get a lot of early end - errors if you overdo it, although they also can happen naturally. The amount of credit you get for that is attempted to be proportional these days, unlike 2 years ago, when you'd always end up with zero credit ;)

Good effort by everyone so far... lets keep pushing to get into the top 1000  WW_VRS i think its about time you set some of your farm to our cause :D

Hmm - problem is that I am the main folder for my own team (1511) ;) - you guys will probably catch up anyway

Wey Hey - Over just cleared 1,100 score - good way to "Burn-in" my new system - over 2 weeks on 24/7 cpu steady @ 50 degrees

Have narrowed down early instability to PSU not upto the job,and memory not suitable to overclock.

85% through my first 400 sized WU. Looking forward to my name appearing (at the bottom) on the rostrum

I've done 4 now all 125 except the first one which was 400. But I think I got more points for that than the rest combined so don't worry you won't be at the bottom if you get that done.

I am slowly catching neo_vr, now only 1500 behind having completed 107 work units.

Ooh, just noticed that I've made it into the team listing - and (surprisingly) not at the bottom :D

86% now... Still don't think it'll get to 100% even if I left it on all afternoon and evening! :( Damn slow flippin' PC! :grumpy: :D

I just cant get passed 9th place :( i think i may have to put it on one of my laptops.. i have a AMD 64 3400+ lappy but aren't sure whether i really want to run it 24/7. Will it be ok? Does the mains bypass the battery once the battery is fully charged?

On laptops I would highly recommend 'lifting it' - i.e. stick it on top of something to get the air flow going under it and specifically, where the HDD/CPU/FAN stuff is. That way the fan won't have to work anywhere near as hard and it will last a lot longer.

I run FAH on my laptop(s) and they work fine. I do have it installed as a service which automatically 'stops' when running on battery power. Less chance of problems that way.

When the laptop is running at 100% CPU load it will recharge the battery a bit slower anyway ;)

just started...

completed 0 out of 250000 steps !

I think we will be a top 1000 team by the end of the week. Good effort but we still need more members.

Will be resuming normal service soon...

For some reason the temp sensor on my intel PIV is thinking it's getting hot.

All fans in place and not oc'd much, only a 2.4 @ 2.6 but since it will run at 3+ I'm perplexed why this temp issue has occured. Was fine for other tasks...

...wonder if I kept my water design notes...

I think someone is having a laugh with me now, I've done 5 and the biggest so far was 400, now there's a 2500!

Next frame ends 2 days time!

WU end 5040 days! That's like 15 years!!!! Hmm what's going on?!

Give it a bit of time, it will sort itself out. 2500 on mine doesnt take very long. The time estimate is initially miles out.

Haha I hope you're right! I'm not sure I've got 15 years to spare!

Edit actually I just looked back - now it says tomorrow!! A bit random there. :D

Please note that is the time to return requirement more than likely ;)

FAH heats up CPUs more than a lot of PC-burn-in applications - and yes it will definitely heat up your P4 like nothing else :D
