Octavia vRS

Skoda, you're pricing yourself too high.......think about it.......

I think most people will be surprised how low the list price is for the new RS.. Comparing a Golf with discount to an Octavia without doesn't make sense.

It depends on whether they discount the vRS which I suspect for the first few months they won't be so your comparing like with like i.e. how much you have to shell out

22,900 is IMO too much, specially when you add the standard £500 for most colours thats 23.5K before any other options.

After a few months when the discounts come coupled with the 0% and free servicing it could become very appealing.

I think most people would say, "YOU PAID HOW MUCH FOR A SKODA!!!???"

The point is a lot of VRS fans will say 'oh well at least it's still 3,4,5k less than a Golf GTI 5 door'....... To my mind the pricing isn't that different and with an e-diff you are getting a SIGNIFICANTLY better car, read the reviews if you don't believe me.......

Maybe I'm trying to convince myself I can get away with a 3 door and stick a roof box on the top for a week or two a year. I appreciate the folks who lug around large kids and fill their boots with pasties might not have that luxury, lol

Anyway I've just remembered, nearly £23k on the VRS and you still get a stupid handbrake!!! SKODA what were you thinking!!!!!!???????

'Free servicing' is a marketing gimmick that is worth about £300 even on a VRS! So £300/£22900 = 1.3% of the list price of the car.....

ie A 2 year VRS service cost £50.24 in Skoda dealer labour and oil filter, about £35 for top notch oil from Eurocarparts and £12 for an air filter from cardiffaudi on ebay...less than £100...

Blimey Doc, what options are you looking at to take it that high? That's way too rich for me!

A few comments to you mark 3 vrs seekers.

I drove a new mark Golf recently - a great little car for a family who travel light but my wife and I take a suitcase each on holiday! So the GTI Golf is probably a great fast car but it can't possible match an Octavia VRS for space and convenience. we're not comparing like with like here.

The spec of the new VRS can be compared to either the BMW 320i or 328i in engine terms. They are great cars with slightly restricted rear room and a rattly startup until they reach reasonable revs. the difference is they are £30,000 and upwards plus you may not like rear wheel drive. does this not make the VRS potentially perfectly good value at these costs - subject to the reviews of course.

On the Estate that's..

Sunroof - £950

Winter Pack - £430

Canton Stereo - £400

Amundsen - £800     - not sure if this will be the actual figure, and I could possibly skip this one..

Apple Device Connector - £100

Spare Wheel - £75

Total £26815

Spare wheel and possibly Apple device but the rest I could live without. Looks like I won't be getting an estate next time and will have to go for hatch as my company car budget is £23.5k. I will go with white again and 20% after market rear tints.

If I wanted to opt back in to the company car scheme I'd be on a £25 list price limit, so that would be a hatch without the Amundsen - £25015

I wish mine came to the low side of 30k!! I have a reputation for liking the options though.

Pistonheads have reported The following 'Standard equipment on all vRS versions includes the limited-slip diff simulating XDS system'

Is this the same as on the golf gti with performance pack?

no.

There's pros and cons to a standard handbrake, lets not start that discussion all over again! :p

Yes, I started a seperate thread questioning why Skoda have left the Left Hand Drive centre console and handbrake in the Octy mk3, when they change it over in the Yeti. :)

I have to say that if I was in the market for a new VAG group performance family car I'd want the performance pack the Golf comes with, seeing as we are talking about cars with fairly long wheelbases sending the power to the front wheels only.

Really hope Skoda add that as an option because it does make the car better.
