Hi

Trying to decide which tyres to buy for Octavia vRS 2.0TD 170

Almost settled on Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric but notice the '2' version is about a fiver a tyre cheaper than the original version on Blackcircles despite having higher speed and load rating..... Is there any difference between the two other than the '2' being a newer version?

Have also though about Pirelli P6000, Pirelli P Zero (Nero or Rossi) and Uniroyal Rainsport if anyone has any opinions or experiences?

Cheers

Had a full set of P6000s on my old Octavia and they were fine apart from a little skittish at the front in the wet. Got Michelin Energy on my new Octavia and they feel a little stickier but with the resulting drop in miles. The best tyres I ever used were Continental closely followed by Goodyear Eagles. I put the Eagles second because they lasted a little less miles.

I'm not a fan of Goodyear tyres, but that is based mainly on experience of the NCT5 & Efficientgrip versions that they insist on fitting at work, the feedback from many people on here is that the F1 Asymmetric is a very good tyre and are highly rated by most. It'll certainly be high on my list of potentials when I come to change.

I used to swear by the Pirelli P6000, but that was many, many years ago and they are now a very old design of tyre. Most reviews slate them as being quite a poor choice these days and for that reason I would discount them from any list if it were me.

Can't comment on the P Zero or Rainsports as I've never tried them.

Rainsport 2's are very good imo. Great vfm.

Ive just bought 4 falken ze914's for my vrs, not fitted yet though.

Fitting at ats is gonna be £60 + £290 for the tyres delivered.

Fitted from black.circles you are talking over £100 per tyre

Eagle assymetric 2's have won a bunch of tyre tests. I had them on the last car - best tyre i've had on the vrs. Much better than either conti sportcontact2's or sportcontac3.

They are a completely different tyre to the original assymetrics, much improved (although the original tyre was good in its day).

Rainsports beat EVERYTHING in the wet, but lose out in the dry to other tyres. e.g. Assymetrics, Pirelli Pzero etc.

P6000? Really? Also known as "ditchfinders"? Please don't buy these - they're absolutely terrible!

Make sure you check prices on Camskill first - Usually they're a lot cheaper, even if you have to pay a tyre fitting centre £15 per tyre to fit they are often still cheaper.

I had some new Falken FK453's fitted in September and they've been excellent so far, much quieter then the older 452's and far improved all round.

Always loved the original Eagles on my G60, but they were a bit skittish in the wet sometimes. As said above, the new model have won loads of awards and was GONNA buy a set of them... but then last month found National Tyres were doing a bogof deal on Barum Bravuris which equated to £300 for four, fully fitted! Heard good things about them and they seem similar to my Michelin PS3's which were on previously (excellent tyres but a little pricey!!) but are ever so slightly noisier. Had to listen for it deliberately though as that seemed the main bone of contention on some comments, and it was marginally noticable but it doesn't really bother me, just turn the stereo up one notch. Certainly not worth £100+ just to get a slightly quieter tyre!

Barum deal is still on, but I don;t know if they do it for 18" wheels...

This is exactly what I did and saved around £100

I've got Parada spec II on front and Pirelli P7 runflats on the back. Tried many different tyres and so far the Parada are best for dry day traction but a bit ropey in wet.

Another vote for the Assymetric 2's. I've had the the original eagle f1's, Assymetric 1's, Conti 2 and 3's and they beat them all.

+1 for the 4 seasons

I've got Assymetric 2s on my vRS and love them. They are by far the best tyre I've used and inspire a great deal of confidence in all conditions. There may be cheaper tyres out there, but I'll be replacing them with the same when the time comes. Unless the Assymetric 3 is out by then!

I'm not sure what kind of price your looking to spend on tyres.

My car came with Continental SC2's on from the factory. So when I needed my first new ones (at 30k miles and there was actually still a little meat on them) I went for the Continental SC5's

In the 30k miles I went in the SC2's I found them extremely grippy, very quiet - and 30k miles (with the original rears, now fronts with about 7-8k left in them) the wear rate very good.

Thanks for the replies so far...general consensus seems to approve of the Goodyears. Just need to find best mail order price....fitting costs not a problem as they are going to get swapped at same time as wheel refurbishment so I'll just drop the new tyres off with the car on the day.

I did well over 150K miles on P6000's in all types of weather, including holidays to the South of France and Italy and back, and I never had a problem with them, so I am not quite sure how people were driving (or what their ability - lack of?) in order to provoke the "ditchfinder" tag.

I have had a set of Barum Bravuris 2 on the Octavia for 10K miles and I think they are a great tyre, maybe slightly noisier on some road surfaces, but the grip and wear seem fine.

Apologies for the massive delay in replying! Finally got some Uniroyal Rainsport 2 's from Camskill. About £30 per corner cheaper than local and fitted/balanced for £20 cash all in.

Great so far...car feels good on the road..... reasonable as far as noise goes and great in the wet (handy up here lol) !

Thanks to those who replied!

only thing with rainsports is they have super soft sidewalls so any spirited driving you feel as if you have wrapped pillows on your wheels.

"spirited driving"......surely not!! ;) Hadn't heard that about them but had no trouble so far even on a few "progressive" runs.......will keep things posted but no going back now anyway !!..... Thanks for the input.

I use Accelera budgets on my taxi. Assymmetrical tread pattern. 65 quid each all in. Very good alternative. Not noisy either.

Anyone here that has Nokian z line or Vredestein Ultrac Vorti? I've read some very good reviews about both of them and don't know for which one to go... Any pro's and con's will be appreciated :)

Searching through the offer of a mailorder shop (in Italy but I suspect it's foreign, maybe French) I made a shortlist (see below).

Beside each tyre I put the estimated fitted cost and the "Economy" rating, the "Rain" rating and the noise level (in db), all of them the lower the better.

All these are "summer" tyres.

Hankook Ventus Prime 2 K115 (340€) B B 69

Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance (372€) B A 68

Dunlop Sport BluResponse (380€) B A 68

Michelin Energy Saver + (406€) B A 70

Continental PremiumContact 5 (380€) C A 71

Yokohama BlueEarth-1 (354€) C B 69

Any comments? Experience?

Im going to put toyo proxies t1sports on my vrs when the contis are worn. Always used them and recomend them any day.

Sorry guys I'm new here (first post) - but tyres is what I do for a living so headed straight for this topic. A few months ago I bought my first Skoda - it's an Octavia vRS Tdi 170 (remapped) 57 plate with 29k on the clock.

It had Bridgestones on it when we first got it and I wasnt impressed in the slightest. After a little research I settled for the Vredestein Vorti in a 225/45r17 94Y.

After fitting a set of four after work one day I noticed an imediate difference! The car felt alot more solid, was superb to drive in the wet and I found that it didnt wheel spin every time I stuck my foot down in 2nd gear anymore. I really can't recommened the Vredesteins highly enough, although I'm sure everyone has their own opinions.

Price isnt bad for them either - £360 inc vat for 17" or £408 inc vat for the 18".
