  • Here are a few more pics of the interior as requested, also couldn't resist giving it a quick swill (just a wash'n'wax and spray on demon shine to finish off, oh and I put some rim wax on the alloys )

  • Tried the Eco mode this morning and it managed 58mpg with a clear 22m run on the motorway at a steady legal limit speed plus a mix of 6m country lanes and 8m across Nottm via the ring road. Stop star

  • I settled the VAG finance today with cheaper funds borrowed on my mortgage. It cost me £9.48 for 6 days accrued interest since signing the finance papers, no cancellation fees for withdrawing within

One thing I'm p*ss*d off with Sparshatts, I spent £20k + on a new car and they won't put any fuel in it. Not even a tenner's worth. :@

The above comment now completely withdrawn. Expressed my disappointment and car fuelled to the brim FOC. Very very impressed with the handover from Sparshatts; more and photos on new thread to be started shortly. Watch this space!

Excited to see it Mr Timoctav!

Sounds increasingly encouraging - be intersting to calculate exactly what the consumption is as I'm usually a little bit suspicious of trip computer readouts

First paid for fill up! Fuelly showing 51.1mpg. Trip computer was showing 53.9mpg so trip comupter about 5.5% optimistic. :drunk:

Pretty good - suspect you weren't trying to hard either

Not bad for the first tank full, in the last couple of days computer has been showing well over 60 on each trip so should be looking for high 50s in the long run. Definitely seems to be more economical than The Berb on urban and general commute. Gota a long trip up to Newcastle on the 18th so that will be a good test as even the Berb used to get mid 50s on that run!

I love the folding mirrors, they can be programmed to fold automatically or can be folded via the mirror control on the drivers door. As to whether they are worth it it depends on individual circumstances, for me they would be ad I previoulsy manually folded my mirrors on previous cars.

Yes, folding standard here too, but the optional memory function and auto dimming of the exterior mirrors is only available in conjunction with electric memory seats.

Same in Norway.. :)

Ah yes... Here too. I wanted to get the memory option for the seats and mirrors but these were too expensive and my wife convinced me we can manage without them.

Off to Hortons in the morning for my first warranty visit, the steering wheel airbag is vibrating at around 1250 revs, driving me mad as it's right on 30 mph in 4th gear! Thought it was inside the steering column at first but a frustrated whack on the side of the steering wheel and bingo, there was the same vibration, hope they can sort it while I wait!

Did you leave the car there? How much time was between the issue occured and the delivery date?

Hi, no I waited, dropped it off first thing this morning and used the free wifi to sort a few e-mails, all on works time of course! :giggle: They spent a couple of hours on it removing and replacing steering column housing, including time to wash the car! I got back in, blipped the accelerator and moved it about 10 metres before immediately realising they had cured nothing! :wall: Went straight back in to complain, so this time they sent me out on a test with the technician, we quickly pinpointed the problem which after another 15 mins of fiddling turned out to be a loose heating pipe connection which was causing a vibration through the steering column and steering wheel, so all sorted, and I'm now happy again  except wish they had asked me to sit with the technician straight away rather than wasting 2 hours first!

To answer your other query, it was pretty much there from the start but was getting worse each day, it's 2 week birthday is this coming up this Saturday! The technician did say that it was quite a loud vibration and I was more that justified in returning the car for investigation, he was going to log it in his diary of fixes just in case other Octy III's get the same problem. I got the impression that some of the returns they get are a bit more difficult to sort, things like excessive wind noise was one he mentioned, I said that would probably be cured by advising the customer to eat more healthily or just turning up the radio! :giggle:

Oh boy... Sorry to hear that. And also premature... Hope there is a solution.

They did sort it, cheers for your concern though, the fix was to re-fit the pipe to the heater box using tape to make the joint tight!

They used tape on the stering wheel? can you show us a picture of how this was done and if there are any signs?

No, the tape was used where the heater pipe connects to the heater matrix to tighten up a loose connection. It's all behind the cover below the steering wheel/steering column. I thought it was coming from inside the airbag on the steering wheel but it was the loose pipe just rattling on the steering column cover down by your knees :whew: Don't have any pictures and not going to remove any trim to have a look, just took the technicians word for it. I have done another 100 miles since the fix and can report all is well and the vibration has completely gone!

Just finished sorting out my entire music collection (taken about a week of evenings!) including ripping about 100 old CDs that I'd not got round to converting to mp3s. Everything all tidied up, all missing album art nicked off the internet and just sat waiting for all 28.3GB of it to copy to my new 32GB SDHC card!....1hr 28mins to go but it keeps refreshing and getting longer!...looks like I'll be burning some midnight oil !!! :giggle: :giggle:

No need for pictures if you have to take smth off. Glad the fix is smooth and clean

2nd full tank of fuel and Fuelly calculates that I have averaged 57.8mpg this time over 500 miles, so combined average for first two tanks now 54.4mpg. Seems to take about 40 litres per fill up, the computer was showing 70 miles left in tank, fill up light had not yet come on. This is about 10 litres less than the Superb would take but I am getting the same range on 80% of the fuel, so that is saving me about £60 per month if this continues.

Sounds like you and I are pretty close on consumption figures, my "long term" readout is still creeping up, now showing 57.8 mpg but I'm a few days away from my second fill up. I was thinking whilst I had my Clockwork Rat that the Octavia would be averaging around 54mpg, so well happy. I didn't allow for advanced German / Czech diesel technology!

500 miles for a full tank (light to light) is very good. I get 550 from my Qashqai but it's 10 litres more. Lights seem to come on with about 10 litres left. We need a competition for the most miles light to light!

I will be up for that! I have managed over 700 miles on a tank on 9 occasions in 60000miles in my Audi (OK, I'm sad and like spreadsheets :giggle: )

Might be more of a challenge in the Oct3 though - 50 litre talk to the 65 in the Audi...

Great - could we have a pinned thread recording miles per full tank (light to light), recording our model / engine (gearbox) / fuel?

Can the moderators help?
