Octy III Briskodian No 007, Race Blue, Golus, plus a few toys...

Featured Replies

But it is a shame you can only accelerate in increments of 1mph (unless I have missed the trick) - on my old car a long press would do 5pm and a short press would do the 1mph.

If it works anything like the Golf VII, the flippers on the cruise control stick will do +/- 1 and the +/- button on the multi function steering wheel will do +5/-5 if I remember it correctly. I had the Golf as a rental a month back and I was ****ed it didn't work like the Golf VI I got, but eventually I came around it and had both options.

  • Here are a few more pics of the interior as requested, also couldn't resist giving it a quick swill (just a wash'n'wax and spray on demon shine to finish off, oh and I put some rim wax on the alloys )

  • Tried the Eco mode this morning and it managed 58mpg with a clear 22m run on the motorway at a steady legal limit speed plus a mix of 6m country lanes and 8m across Nottm via the ring road. Stop star

  • I settled the VAG finance today with cheaper funds borrowed on my mortgage. It cost me £9.48 for 6 days accrued interest since signing the finance papers, no cancellation fees for withdrawing within

No, the Octy wheel doesn't have +/- buttons on the wheel for 5mph increments. I seem to remember that the Golf VII has 2 square pads with up/down, left/right, so I guess one of those has the +/-.  I am getting used to the rocker on the end of the stalk now, so no big deal.

That was one of the reasons I could buy this car. I've been driving the VW cars with that feature for a couple of years and I can simply not get used to any other cruise controller.

I think Timoctav is just towing his Octavia with his other slightly more powerful car.  :giggle:

Tow rope re-attached :-

521 miles / 36.47 litres (8.022 gallons) = 64.9 mpg. :sun:

"Slightly more powerful car" averaging around 25 mpg - on Shell V-Power Nitro. Using it as a tow is making it thirsty!!!!.

Nice..I'll be challenging that in about 8 weeks. What's your mix of driving and top cruising speed?

I only managed 50.6mpg on the last tank over 478 miles, 43.07 litres! Damn Yorkshire hills! Got a trip to Newbury on Mon, so that should be a good test.

Long term reading also reset itself for the first time yesterday, and by the time I got home it was reading 63 mpg!, but been pottering locally today and gone down to 51mpg already!

Just filled up this morning and the rest of the Shell V Power averaged 57.3mpg over the full tank so no better than the previous Tesco tank full so it was back to Tesco this morning with a 5p/litre discount voucher!  I'm averaging 55mpg since new which is more than 1mpg better than the nearest comparison on Fuelly so quite happy with this so far.

Also, the Amundsen had a whappy this morning, the screen stayed blank on start up with no audio and no combination of button presses made any difference but suddenly, just when I was thinking a trip to the dealers was looming, after 10 mins it suddenly sprung back to life, very strange!

5,500 mile wash and brush up. Still managing to keep on top of my beautiful alloys, including waxing the inner rims!!

Look good mate - I've got those on order.

They are quite easy to care for, plenty of space to get your hand in to clean, just remember to wear a glove as the disc guards are like razors!

I'd second that having cut my hands quite a bit washing my wheels!!

Nightmare on M1 this evening, closed both directions J27-28 at about 7pm. I was heading back from Newbury and would have averaged well over 60mph for the 160 mile journey until someone decided to jump off a motorway bridge! Ended up taking an extra hour, so a 3.5 hour journey in the end but on the bright side, I got to try out the auto dipping headlights on the country lanes  According to the news reports on the intraweb, the woman, age 29 survived as she only hit the hard shoulder!!

Why can't people suicide somewhere where they don't create such an annoyance for thousands of other people?

I know, I'm a horrible person...

I was chatting to someone at work about this earlier, he knew of someone who tried the jumping off a bridge option, that failed so he moved on to stepping out in front of a moving lorry, that worked but spare a thought for the poor lorry driver and the thousands of people who get delayed, haven't these people heard of overdosing or slitting their wrists which can at least be done in the comfort of their own home without bothering the masses! Don't even get me started on those who jump in front of trains at mainline stations!

Reminds me of the messages I saw on the commuter trains in Tokyo, when I lived there a few years back - sometimes, when there was a delay the messages would spell out "personal accident". I don't want to begin thinking about how much funds go to counseling of the railroad engineers and innocent bystanders...

Amundsen was playing dead again tonight, that is the second time this has happened, first time it seemed to come back on randomly a few minutes later, but this time nothing until I stumbled on the correct button press sequence, press/hold on/off and then press/hold menu while still holding on/off, after a few secs the unit re-booted. My old Columbus used to do this and eventually the unit was bricked so not holding out much hope that the new tech is going to be any more reliable!

Amundsen definitely playing up, this morning I shunted the car off the drive, switched off, took key out of ignition, radio kept playing for a few secs, but would normally switch off when key withdrawn, then the speakers wirred back into life, still no key in ignition but kept blasting loud thud thud thud noises, then a popping noise and silence. The head unit stayed blank on restarting the engine, but after a minute or so the welcome screen came on, then went off again, did this a few times. I left the car for an hour or so then on my way to work it kept trying to boot up to no avail. Suddenly after 10-15 mins, it burst back into life, and is now working as normal. Anyone else had any similar problems yet? I had a similar issue with Columbus in my old Superb II and eventually the unit blew the motherboard and was replaced by Skoda/Lease company but this was on a 40 month old car, not a 4 month old, not too impressed if they have still got similar issues on the new technology!

Ahh....Chrome, will we ever see this again in the UK, a definite mod for me if we do.....it really gives the car a premium look.

I was one of the lucky early birds to get this added between ordering and build week confirmation and before SUK realised that a few of us had got the dealer to add to order using the option code that our Euro friends on here had kindly posted.

Have managed to come up with a diy fix for the creaking drivers door card. Used the felt side only of some black sticky back velcro, cut into thin strips and managed to push a few bits between the door trim and door frame near the b pillar and also between the door trim and the thin plastic strip that separates the trim from the glass. Solid as a rock now and can rest my arm on it with no clicking noise anymore!

Hi folks, I think I'm going to set up in business repairing Octy III faults. My ongoing niggly problem with a rattle in the steering column, which I initially assumed was the heater pipe connection coming loose again, actually transpired to be something completely different.

I found that by releasing the steering column adjustment lever, temporarily tilting down and pulling out the steering wheel as far as possible, then removing the small piece of plastic trim that sits below the trip reset button, and there was a cable exposed, that I assume supplies the airbag and steering wheel media buttons. This cable seemed to have an unused connector block that I suspected was vibrating on the metal part of the steering column, so I simply taped around the connector block with electricians tape so that if it makes contact with metal the sound would be dampened. Hey presto, on my trip to work today, heavenly peace was restored!

I am the first to admit that I'm a bit OCD with rattles, and this one was starting to irritate me, but I hate resorting to the dealer for everything, so hopefully this may be of use to fellow DIY'ers!

All-time best brim to brim fill up today, averaging 59.9 mpg, and on a trip into Leeds this morning, saw over 71mpg after pulling off the motorway, dropped to a lowly 68 mpg by the time I parked up, well chuffed with these figures, not sure if it just the car finally loosening up after nearly 18k miles or if it the fact I'm only using Shell since November coupled with the warmer weather hence better economy. Does anyone know when the suppliers switch from winter to summer fuel which I understand has less antifreeze and returns better economy?
