Perhaps stever750 should have started the new thread, as suggested.

Perhaps. But after 60 pages there probably isn't much left to say about a Golf R :)

  • Wow! A bit of a fly on the wall comment in jest has been turned into me supposedly taking the credit for the size of the thread!?! Err...ok...   Just to clarify, I have far more important things to

  • Apologies is this thread is going a bit "off topic", but I'll carry on anyway as there is Golf R content... This is my personal experience of the S3, Golf R and M135i and the respective test drives.

Not if you have your way !

I have made an alternative arrangement here

Keith, you ought to think about editing the title delete the "new"?? ;)

I can stay on topic for once, so a  VW. AWD, 4 door, load carrying.

Then a Ford,  2 door, Sound, Traction, Space. Load Carrying, Ski Centre, Automotive Porn.

'Which would you rather own?'

As my VW Golf MK7 GT estate is very similar on the inside to the "R" & I love it , I'd far rather have the "R" estate...................however I'd have the Monaro ute that I heard yesterday over the M135I for the sound alone!...................also it isn't as common as muck unlike the M135I around here!

However I chose the my GT over the "R" estate as I like my licence, & prefer the even lower insurance & fuel bills!.................mind you the "R" is lower than the M135I on the insurance !

You really do have a problem. As this is a Golf R thread, I have started one more appropriate to discuss your strange desire to have a pop at the M135 at every opportunity. I welcome you to the thread here You may feel more comfortable over there as you don't actually own an R

I did note that on page 1 there was already talk about M3 and M5s :D it is pretty natural that the topic drifts around the area of the R's price/performance competitors and has been like that for the nigh on 10 years I've been here. The tricky bit is to stop it wandering off too far. The mods usually leave us alone as long as we play nice and don't take the pea too much.  Although perhaps mentioning George Clooney might be pushing my luck :D

Hey Keith, I was joking buddy! I'm trying to keep it OT as well.

Back to the topic, I was about to ask if you had the DSG box, and if so, had you noticed the difference in flappy manual mode when engaged from either D or S?

Thanks Steve.

My spec is purist - manual! Mode switching when the mood dictates.

And of course you have never spent time having a pop at the "R"?.................... :dull:

I have more experience of "R" than you do as I have worked on them & have driven various incarnations........... :p

Back OT...............To the "R" owners have you retro-fitted the other aerodynamic undertrays & S3 jack pads yet?.........also thought about fitting the S3 alu subframe or the S3 alu front wishbones with the superpro revo-ball rear bushes?.....great way to lose weight & improve aero!

Don't know how many times I have to say it I like the R. No agenda. Shame you have seem to have one. Please come over to the other thread and we can go OT if you like.

Golf R estate prices now on VW UK PDF brochures.............................£33, 585  DSG only!!...............bankers!!....... :swear: ............so VW UK think we don't want a manual version???................idiots!

GTD estate is listed with both gearboxes but prices TBA.

Also Alltrack estate in 110, 150, & 184 PS versions................WTF???..............so a 4WD Altrack with the same GTD engine, so what's the point of the GTD then if an Alltrack will have the same speed?..........mind you GTD is in DSG & manual, Alltrack in 184PS is DSG only.

VW UK specing what it thinks it can sell, & not the range that that the factory build, as per usuall!

Also the GTD is speced as having LED rear lights, with the R having the same, yet the motor show pics clearly showed the same rear lights on the R that I have??..........maybe devolvement times...... :nerd:

It seems good to have choices, what is the point of producing every version of engine and drive train in the 4 Brands,

Audi, VW, Seat & Skoda.

Lots to do with Business Users & Fleet Buyers & Lease not Purchased outright as Keepers.

So Deposit and monthly and hand it back.

All the more choice of Used cars in 2, 3 & 4 years down the line.

PS

I spotted last night on the News from the Channel Isles that the Police were driving Dacia.

It was nice to see practicality and not badge snobbery with Public Money.

Any recent updates on used Golf R prices?

I've forgotten how to use the internet

Have you got the link to the Golf R Estate spec brochure?

As you say stupid to not have a manual option.

At least the R gets the 12 gallon tank instead of the 11 gallon tank.

Like the Fabia 2 VRS needs to use 98 Octane fuel so needs to be near Shell or Tescos petrol stations.

Estate pricelist should be the same as you have above

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/golf-estate-vii/which-model/brochures

I see that you can't get engine/model badge delete at factory on Alltrack/GTD/R, & they still insist on giving out carpet mats with the Alltrack, which are useless, I got the rubber ones! Also the GTD gets the winter pack as standard & not the Allltrack WTF?.........also the GTD has keyless as standard?...........

Brochure still not updated, mind you 8th April is when you can start to order the three new models............

Just checked on the German configurator........."R" only in DSG!!............... :o

I think that's clever cost management myself.

It's something I have observed in life, men just simply like estate cars. I don't just mean high performance ones, it just seems a very masculine thing to like Estates :D It is probably similar to woman liking 3dr Vitaras :D which have a boot the size of Mrs Potato heads handbag and so are completely impractical for shopping.

Having said that I do like the look of the Golf R estate and think it's up there with the 535 estate and some of those black AMG estates in looks  :) Is it similar thing to men liking sheds, only a lot faster?

Btw that's a serious question
