Coding / Adaptation Help required

Recommended Posts

Hi,I have followed this guide to enable HBA.  I have carried out the first two parts, But I am struggling with the final part.

Access Module A5
Go to Long Coding, change byte 2 Bit 0 to a "1" or use drop down menu to select "Coding_light_assist High_beam_assist

This is what I get when carrying out these instructions.20170131_175437-1-1.jpg

I am pretty new to vcds so I apologise if i have made a blatent error. Thanks for any help or guidance.

enyone tested the "main_beam_assist_urban_area_detection" adaptation?

can anyone confirm that this setting will make the high beam assist work in areas with not so bright street lights?

Yes I have enabled mine to work in 'built up' areas. Works fine.

We have a local council trying to save money by switching street lights off and it's ruddy dangerous at times...

So, I take it this will require full scan log to be analysed orior to the thread being modified for the new LED lights on the FL vRS ?

It may work without any alterations?

After all, it's only the activation of the high beam that's being enabled, rather than any change to the lights themselves.

Although I do appreciate the LEDs will emit high beam in a different way.

Someone else can spend hours playing with cars to document the FL models :)

It is basically the same, logic is the same, even majority of leuchte channels are the same. So basically if you uderstand the PFL models, you will easily understand also FL models.
The only requirement is to have up-to-date version of VCDS. That's all :).

Apologies, I'm stuck with this! How do you get to the below after putting the security code in?!

Go to (2) Assistant light functions - Menu light assistant and change to 'PRESENT'

On my june 2015 build Scout the adaptation is:

IDE08786-ENG116637-Assistance light functions-Menuesteuerung Fernlichtassistent

Which translates as "menu Control non dipped beam assistant"

My 2016 Octy vRS has lane assist fitted as standard. I'm looking at using OBDeleven to programme the following:

High beam assist
Traffic sign recognition

I've seen the above programming via VCDS but does anyone have the coding for use via OBDeleven please?

i used the guide in the vcds sticky and posted this wee bit a while back when using obdeleven

i have managed to enable high beam assist as well using the OBDeleven

the tricky bit is the instruction for the 2nd part

"Goto Controller 09 - long coding - change byte2 bit 0-2 to a value of 03 using the dropdown menu for models with xenons"

there is no dropdown menu for this dongle and i had to click on long coding, toggle the 0/1 icon to switch from descriptive text to the coding layout, clicked across to byte 2, clicked the hex value heading, entered '03' and it ticked the relevant bit boxes

the altering of activation speeds and lux sensitivities is straightforward and as described in the vcds howtos

For anyone who did this HBA mod and got an error I did the same on @sherr03car and we got the same error - no matter what we did!!! “Fault light assist”

finally I got it to work by doing the following (in this exact order)

Lights in the off position

1) A5 module - code this first

2) exit with a soft reset

3) ignition off - key out

4) ignition on

5) 09 module - coding first

6) then enter security code 31347

7) set the adaptation channel to activate the menu

8) exit with a soft reset

9) ignition off - key out

10) ignition on, go to car menu on infotainment. Switch on light assist

NO ERRORS :-)

@andyvee could add this to the how to section please?

@simonsheil and @AshGSmith try this

thanks

Hey mate,

Thanks for this, I’ll give it a go shortly. My only questions really are:

1. How do you exit with a soft reset?

2. I’ve got KESSY, do we think I’m going to be screwed by that?! Or when your stage is “Ignition Off” should I just open my drivers door?

Thanks,

Ash

When you apply coding or apply adaptations they is a little tick box with “soft reset” in it. Click that before continuing.

with KESSY I’m not sure I’ve not done one, you might be best just getting out and locking the car when I have written ignition off.

and @sherr03 gald it worked!!

So I’ve just been out and I still can’t get it working. I’ve tried a few different things but can’t get it to work. When I tried doing a soft reset within the a control unit it said it was unavailable. I did everything else (although I may need to try locking the car as I didn’t do that, but I did open the door) but I’ve gotta give up for the night because I’m getting frustrated by it haha

The following is for use with OBDEleven, but should be the same as VCDS.

This is the process I followed, from top to bottom in order, and have no errors. I have a DSG & KESSY car, but this should make no difference:

High Beam Assist (for cars with Lane Assist Camera):

Ensure light switch is in the OFF position, wipers not on auto, doors closed and ignition on, before starting - IMPORTANT
1. Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
2. Control unit Long Coding
3. Byte 02
4. Bit 0-2: "03 Lighting Bi-Xenon with Light Assist"

5. Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
6. Security Access Code: 31347
7. Adaptation
8. Assistance Light Functions-Menuestuerung Fernlichtassistent
9. New Value: Present
10. Assistance Light Functions-Menuestuerung Fernlichtassistent Werkseinstellung
11. New Value: Present
12. Select Control unit A5
13. Security Access Code: 20103
14. Control unit Long Coding
15. Byte 02
16. Bit 0-7: "01 coding_Light/High_beam_assist"

Optional settings

17. Controller A5

18. Security Access Code: 20103

19. Adaptation

20. High beam assist urban detection area – Switch to No

21. Speed that HBA active set to 20kph

22. Speed that HBA deactivate set to 10kph

23. Change lux code to 10

Finally, go into the vehicle menu on the head unit, go to light settings and select ‘light assist’

Push the left stalk towards the front of the car, it should show the HBA logo at the bottom of the Maxidot.

I have been trying to do this all night! I keep getting the "Fault light assist" come up on the dash, this is when sat on the drive after following the above coding.

Any clues? happy to provide screen shots etc of each set of coding.

this is the first MBQ car I have coded, I was more than happy doing the older ones were it was just a case of ticking boxes on long coding etc

Cheers

@M7R I had to do a "Factory Reset" on the head unit control in the Lights section, I then setup all the options back to how I normally have it and its worked fine.

Just been out to the car where is the factory reset? Or is it full head unit reset so Bluetooth etc also reset?

mine is a Nov 13 Car so early if that makes any odds?

(I have also tried to codes the cornering fogs and again parked on the drive, lights on and indicating the fogs don’t appear to be lighting up.. so not sure if it just needs time to reset? Had it before where coded cars and it only worked after locking and unlocking a few times)
