  • Couple of things I am struggling to get to grips with in this thread.   1) How anyone for a split second can possibly imagine VW are the only ones doing it.   2) How a seemingly well educated and

there is a "need" if you get certification needed for MOT test, that VW has performed fix for your car and you have "clean" diesel engine now. No certificate from VW service - no MOT.

Then, you must prove that performances are affected, and suite VW.

Would not apply in the UK as diesels do not get an emissions test at the MOT.

... also here in AT, MOTs don't have NOx analyzer, but they will ask for PAPER that VWG service has performed MODIFICATION of your vehicle

paper, confirmation, certification.... call it as you wish....

All you need to bring to a UK MOT test is a car, and a little money to pay for the test.

ooohh, money under office desk? Ilegal activity, why, because VW made mistake?

No, just a standard test fee, approx. £55 I think, to cover the garage's time.

Unless MOT stations have a list......but I don't think that 'gotcha' situation will happen....there would be other, prior communication with confirmation of 'need' I'd think

What happens if you have the piece of paper confirming that VW has performed the modification and then you have a remap carried out?

For which there are NO proposals in the UK!!

I've still in warranty, 3years, and with fixed price servicing, so committed to genuine servicing, which means they will do the 'fix' as part of their legal/franchise commitment.

Try an indie and you might get away with it

For a while, at least

You've done a thorough search then on govt proposals incl EU/UN agreements?

Even better, I have friends that work at DVSA.

Ask them exactly why YOU don't get OUR standards or any other form of emission control quality standards

The UK has a very simple MOT System, about as easy as in any country to have a car on the road.

Getting no more difficult as the first test required is to be at 4 years from First Registration.

Really the UK goes its own way except being a sort of Time Share EU Member it pays some attention to

what the EU wants brought in and ignores or delays other stuff. For decades often.

(we can still have Paper Licences and no Photocards, if we are old enough.)

Just play the EU game like Italy, Spain, France does, do your own thing.

Different Ages for licences for different vehicles from one country to another in the EU.

Basically Politicians are also Investors, shareholders, directors etc in Industry and commerce in many instances.

Or their Sponsors are.

Turkeys do not vote for Christmas.

Because our Regulations are not the same as the Australian ones.

Just like there are probably plenty of other Laws that are different between the 2 countries.

We at least do have regulations, and at least a cursory annual check on all vehicles over 3 years old.

According to my daughter's Aussie partner, there is no national MOT procedure in Australia, various states have their own rules. Most, including Victoria, only require a roadworthiness paper when being sold, or if a Copper thinks it is dangerous and requires it to be inspected.

So I fail to see why Ryteman has such an interest in,or detailed knowledge of, the position in the UK.

We are more populous than you think and it's an EU product.

You're right, no 'annuals' in Vic cos a statistical analysis didn't show any gain from it .......much to the disgust of the Federal Camber of Automotive Industries .......funny that

But then again, the RACV didn't see a need either......funny that

On the Subject of the United States of America and VW being required to recall near 1/2 a Million Diesel cars.

I read that only a few, possibly 3 States will be in a position to make Owners have vehicles Modified by VW to meet Emissions.

Either way, the U.K. being an auto exporter means generally meeting California regs one way or another if they want to sell into the U.S. market because California influences and ultimately sets standards by being the biggest market. JLR frinstance plus BMW and VW owned brands.
