Does this mean that the standard shocks can't support the shorter and stiffer springs?

Im not sure. im also getting squeaks over bumps maybe shocks. im not sure it could be unrelated.

I'm on stock shocks and stock springs at the moment.

The Eibach springs will work fine with the stock shocks, though it may feel a little floaty/underdampened.

The Eibach springs are actually paired with the Bilstein B8 shocks as components in their B12 Kit. It seems they're a very common and well-regarded pairing.

If you want a fit-and-forget solution, the Eibach + B8 option is probably best. Plus you have the advantage of only having to swap out some parts at a time, spreading the cost, unlike coilovers.

If your shocks are misting/leaking, then using any lowering springs with them will likely only accelerate the wear.

In the front it's possible its the ARB bushes, in the rear it's possible it's the axle pivot bushes.

If your shocks are dying, that can also make them squeak.

A good idea to do when first lowering the car is to either re-fit the existing ARB bushes, or replace with new ones. The drop puts extra tension on them from their standard resting point and can also accelerate wear and cause squeaks.

Does anyone have an idea how much is stock suspension worth? (great condition- 21k miles) My ST-X coilovers just arrived so I won't be needing them any more hehe :D Also, if i decide to keep them, is it bad for suspension to sit around for couple of years?

I'd imagine itd be best to keep them to return to stock when selling, unless you're planning to keep the car ti it dies like me, then it doesn't really matter i guess.

Have a look on eBay for second hand prices, its a similar (if not identical) setup to the A1, Polo, and Ibiza.

I've got Eibachs waiting to go on mine. Not exactly an essential piece of work though

Same, well, mine are somewhere between Germany and Sheffield at the moment haha

Putting mine on will probably completely kill off the shock absorbers once and for all (they've been leaking slightly for the past two years thereabouts, but have passed the MOT fine on both occasions), so i'm not in a huge rush either.

I want to give the Eibach springs a test running both stock shocks and bilstein B8's to see how they actually compare, for an actual definitive answer.

Thankfully the rear springs and shocks are no problem to sort/change, it'll just be the front ones that'll be a bit more of a challenge. They're always a pain to get out from the hub/knuckle joint thingy.

I may end up getting some b8s too and getting them fitted all at the same time. I don't imagine fitting shocks and springs will be much more than just springs but I don't know.

I think garages will be desperate for work once nonessential stuff is go again

It'd be pretty much the same time and effort taken to do shocks or springs or even both at the same time. May aswell get them all done at the same time i guess.

Check out Bilsteins online store, or keep an eye on AutoDoc's mobile app for the shocks, they have a daily random % off, it was something like 30% off the other day (picked up the eibach springs for like £109 before postage i think.

I've been looking at Bilstein's website, having a dumb moment and couldn't work out what I needed. Looks like you buy them individually and one of the B8s listed for the fabia was more expensive than the other. With the springs I had to get the front pair for the diesel as I've got the 1.2 tsi with dsg.

Already spent too much on it the last few days with eyebrows, wind deflectors, mudflaps and a flappy paddle steering wheel

The B4's (not listed on that picture, but they're usually just black like OE shocks), are designed as OE replacement parts.

The B6's are slightly stiffer (don't know any exact number but supposedly somewhere between 15-25% stiffer than standard), but same length as the standard shocks, these are designed for people who want sportier shocks but standard (or very tiny drop) ride height.

The B8's are the same as the B6 in terms of stiffness, but are shorter, and are designed for lowering springs, you still get the same amount of compression travel before the bump stop, but the unloaded travel is reduced, stops the springs coming off their perches if you get some "air time" over a bump or something.

Because the Eibachs aren't a huge drop (though not minor), you can get away with either, but at extremes of suspension travel (usually when unloaded, i.e after coming over a small bridge at speed and you get a little "air time") the springs can potentially become unseated from their perches, this becomes more of a risk the lower you go, but the B8 shocks are designed to eliminate this.

I also read that the B6 and B8 shocks both have built in bump-stops, so there's no need to transfer them across from the standard ones. Might be worth contacting them though to make sure though, don't take my word for it.

Edit: The FRONT shocks do indeed have built in bump-stops, so no need to transfer them over there, however the rear don't, so it'd probably be worthwhile to maybe get new bump-stops and see how much gap there is, and maybe cut them down a little. Hitting bump-stops is the worst.

Are H&Rs any good? It's saying that these are 40mm are for front and rear.

H&R springs are linear, so they'll be slightly stiffer under normal driving, but will provide slightly better initial turn-in and more consistency through corners.
Eibachs are progressive, so they'll be closer to stock in terms of normal driving, but stiffen up when loaded (heavy cornering etc).

Both provide about the same appearance in terms of ride height. If anything, the Eibachs are a tad lower.

old thread I know I’m hoping you could link these springs and or if it’s possible to only buy rears

Hi all, I initially fitted Eibach lowering springs to my 2017 Monte Carlo on the standard shocks about 12 months ago. Very pleased with the look of the car but as time passed I became increasingly sick of the ride, especially on Sheffields awful roads. Even small dips in the Road Would result in an horrific bang especially from the front. This got so bad I seriously contemplated going back to standard  springs. Whilst browsing Autodoc I came across the Bilstein B8 and ordered front and rear. Fitted the shocks last weekend and took the winter wheels off. Refitted alloys and went for a run. All I can say is what a difference, totally transformed the car. Would recommend Eibach springs with the B8 shocks
