Karoq 4x4 in the Snow

Featured Replies

I’m abroad but my wife is pleased to report the Karoq 4x4 is “awesome” in the snow, in particular on our local ungritted hilly side roads.  We went for this version just for such times and it has paid off.

GREAT to hear Woody.

But looks like you have the 4x$, whatever that variant is??   :D

?

What tyres are fitted?

Standard fit but only done 1,500 miles so full of tread

So what did your Karoq come with as standard fit, Bridgestone Dueler?

Yes it came with Bridgestone Duellers, which is very pleasing. Soft ride and plenty of grip

It's not the thread title or content, instead it's car in your profile which I don't think is shown on the mobile version of the website.

It's set as "Karoq 2.0 TDI SE 4X$ DSG" so you probably made a typo when you last updated your profile :)

Cheers!  Now corrected

We have both the Karoq 4x4 and a Yeti 4x4. Can't boast about how good they've been in the snow as they're the garage and we have a huge snowdrift in front of the door and can't get it open!!

Still can't get the car out!! Looking for a snow plough option for the Karoq but I don't see it in the brochure.

Bowdie so it’s no good asking you how quickly the engine warms up on the 2.0 l tdi.

I'm afraid not. Went for a walk this morning and my engine was still stone cold when I got back!!

1.4 tsi warms up nicely in the Octy :-)

I just drove the Karoq myself in snow, with ice underneath as well in our ungritted Avenue (Croydon Council ignore us because we vote wrongly - just send money).

It feels planted, with seriously impressive grip both uphill and downhill. Engine breaking with DSG in normal mode feels very strong too.

My previous experience was with a Honda CRV Mk2 which would slip it's front wheels before the rears kicked in to help matters. It was very good in snow, but disconcerting to lose grip before regaining it. I believe the part-time 4WD was activated by a simple mechanical device.

The Karoq uses electronics, including virtual diff locks when necessary and it shows. Just powers ahead and feels incredibly sure-footed. Of course, you still need to respect the conditions and keep speeds sensible, but I am seriously impressed and essential journeys, in particular to dependent elderly relatives, can carry on as normal.

Sounds good! will be interesting to hear over a longer period how 4x4 effects the MPG.  It being part time might not be so bad.

Half a plastic barrel cable tied to front of car could be a hill billy fix in a pinch lol

Might give it a shot if they haven't dug us out by tomorrow.

There's quite a few similar videos on Youtube such as the one below. I'm sure that at one point they do say that they are using studded tyres. Try driving that fast on bog standard Bridgstone Duellers and you can kiss goodbye to your NCD;)  Unless all the motoring press demo cars all had the same registration plates, the one above has the same number as the Karoq in your link.

Yes he says studded snow tyres and yes it is the same car.

Anyone else having trouble running the previous video?

At about 9:37 on Arkiag's video, if you're anorak enough (like me), you can freeze frame the close up on the tyres. They look to be NOKIEN Tyres 225 55 R17. There is some other writing on them - APEL something RS?

Cracking video though, it'd be great to have a go in that landscape & setting, without worrying about coming bumper to bumper with a truck or bus around the corner..

Working for me when I click on it. It's one of many on Youtube. The Autogefuhl reviews are exceptionally good if you've got plenty of spare time.
