7th annual service and MOT, but first by my local independent. 27,000 miles and just returned from a 16-day trip to the Orkneys. Car ran perfectly. I washed it before I gave it to them. No one likes working on a dirty car.

They did a major service, all the filters - no spark plugs - wheels rotated. £327. About the same as my 4th service from the dealer. All the parts were more expensive, but no surprise there. As the dealer is in Croydon and the indie is a three minute walk away, it saved me a 90-minute drive and two train rides.

Car passed its MOT with flying colours. Only advisory was only 60% left on rear brake pads. Mechanic said it's a nice, clean car. I guess I'll keep it.

I think I'll have the wheels balanced and aligned next.

Glad for you! But I would have been worried if a 27000-mile car did not pass the MOT easily... ;)

It's not just the mileage but the age can bring failures.  Mine's the same age as freelunch's and it received an advisory last year that the original rear tyres were starting to perish, so they were duly changed.  Ironically, if I'd done a higher mileage and had to replace the rear tyres due to wear, I wouldn't have received that advisory!

You can see I average 4K miles per year. My biggest problem is: I park outside and the car sits for weeks at a time. If I drive in the wet before it's parked, the brake pads stick to the discs. I had to have my local free the pads on one occasion.

From ten feet away, you'd think the car was new, except for the curb feelers, um, rims.

I covered 5,000 miles between MOTs last year.  2,600 miles were covered in 3 weeks on a trip to Lithuania, which leaves 2,400 miles for the remaining 49 weeks.  It can be very wet here in Wales and sometimes the pads stick to the discs, but the car's usually used at least a couple of times a week to go shopping etc, so I've never been unable to free them by driving off.

The OE P7s were cracking badly on the tread edge at 38k (and annoyingly, all 4 still had 3mm all over) so changed them for new Conti All Season. Only covered 4K but are much quieter which is great.

Throttle Controllers..... phwoahhhh!!!!

Fitted an Ultimate9 EVC Throttle Controller EVC201L.

Combined with the Stage 1 tune, it's like an Energizer bunny!!!

Nice and easy to install too.

I installed a Blackvue DR590 dashcam today.
Powered on and off by ignition, using fuse location 47 (rear window wiper, which was unused)
Was an easy install thanks to some handy tips from those that have done it before 👍
No soldering, basically plug'n'play with these bits from Electronics store:-
- 1x 10 amp fuse
- fuse wire tap
- cigarette lighter to 8mm eye terminal

Happy with it.

Can't see it from the drivers seat.

No, I haven't got the GPS receiver bit, or the power bank (for parking mode) - I can always add these later, if I want.

Hi @JR RS

I know this is an old post, but looking at your photos, the power cable for your Blackvue looks like it goes through the A5 camera housing (as opposed to being routing round it).  If that's the case did you have to make any modifications?

Edited by GarySN

Just got a remap on my superb iv, allegedly it is about 280 hp and 480 nm of torque. Even just using the car in normal hybrid mode I can already feel a huuuuge difference.

I started the car this yesterday morning. Well, what I mean is, it was 0c here overnight and it only “just” started. Then a warning came up saying “Stop/start Disabled” and a symbol then came up on the warning light bar below the maxi dot, which I can’t find in the handbook so apparently doesn’t exist! So sadly it looks like the battery, which is the original form 2016, is finally on the way-out, so I can’t really complain.

I put it on charge and have now left it for 24h so we’ll see if that helps. I’ve also got the Noco jump starter if needed. Fortunately, we have a replacement battery included with the RAC cover, so that’s one less thing to worry about in terms of cost, but as I’m in Ireland at present, I’ll probably have to go over the boarder to get them to come out.

Hey hey.

The cable is actually going around the A5 camera housing, but I managed to tuck it under the trim, and then under the roof liner towards the A-pillar.

I didn't remove the A5 Camera trim surround - didn't want that hassle.

I couldn't resist Kopacek's recent 22% of sale, so i added some "aero fins" to Gandalf's rear end....diffusser.

Removed the diffuser so i could paint it gloss black, then the aero fins glued on as a single piece.

As a result, my drag coefficient has dropped now and my fuel consumption has improved remarkably!!

....yeah, and pigs fly too!!!

Hey @JR RS

Are these facelifted tail lights, or did you simply add a chrome strip to the pre-facelifted tail lights?

No, they r the pre-facelift tail lights.

I added a light smoke tint to it, otherwise factory lights.

I added a chrome strip to it - door edge protectors in fact, that I repurposed.

Still going strong after 3 yrs plus.

I originally wanted to retrofit the facelift tail lights, along with the chrome strip, but it was too much of a hassle, and very expensive for all the bits n pieces required.

So I did my version, thanks to a cheap AliExpress alternative!!

I also used the same chrome stripe on the lower door trim.

You've done well for that battery to last as long as it has. The OEM batteries normally go just outside of the 3 year warranty! Mine did just that a few years ago & of course, changing a battery is no longer a DIY job unless you have the kit to re-code the car after fitting the new battery.

Still got my original factory battery after 6 1/2 years with no signs of failure.

all depends on how long it’s left and if it is properly charged on runs or only the odd trip to the shop once a week for example

It’s 7.5 years old so yeah, I’m happy with that.
I called the RAC and gave them my location (Asda carpark in Strabane!) and said the battery has failed -

it’s not flat, it’s failed, so it needs to be replaced. They get on it….
…….and after waiting 1.5h, an agent turns up with his tow truck and a starting pack. He tests the battery and says it’s knackered, but as an agent he can’t replace parts, only fix or tow!
I call the RAC and they’ve now closed the case down, so I have to start once more, explain the situation yet again and this time, they say they’ll get an RAC patrol to attend. Text says they’ll be there in an hour - yay!
The I get a call 20 mins later and I’m told the nearest patrol is 25 miles away… but as it’s now 16.00, they’ve finished for the day…. this is a 24/7 service btw. So now it’s booked for tomorrow morning between 07.00 and 12.00 where I’m staying 15 miles in the South. But it might be the afternoon as it depends how many jobs he gets overnight. What a joke.

All we’ll need next is for them not to code the battery to the car… that’ll be fun!
More tomorrow fellow Skuds… 🙄

Tidy up from mess of typing on a mobile phone!

Dsg service completed today. I bought the parts including the hose to do the job and my mechanic worked his magic. Cost me £180 all in.

Replaced the AQS Sensor in my Superb today.

Old - 5Q0907643D (HW 30; SW 119)

New - 5Q0907643F (HW 32; SW 120)

Hopefully no more intermittent errors with the Air Conditioning Module 08 anymore.

This was the error I would get randomly, sometimes....

"Air Quality Sensor B10AF04 [008] - Internal System Fault"

Fingers crossed.

@JR RS I needto change mine too.

Do you think there is any risk in upgrading the HW reference w/o upgrading the SW version?

I ask just in case I don’t find the same reference as the old one.

The part number above is the newest revision which hopefully fixes some of the failings with the old one.

don’t worry about the HW and SW, just the part number.

UPDATE

So the RAC Patrol Technician arrived today at 0910. He tested the OE MOL battery and it failed the test, stating a failed cell. He’d brought a RAC Branded Varta Silver Dynamic AGM battery. He fitted it, coded and was all done in 30 mins. Perfect.
Oh and seems the info I was given re the patrols being all done at 16.00 was nonsense; he got sent the job at 19.45 last night and he finished at 20.00, hence why I was his first appointment today.

I have the iV and have been considering something similar. Where did you get yours done?
