So after 12 commutes in the last 6 days I have just under half a tank left and 5 journeys gave more than 43mpg. Car parked up now until return on Tuesday.

Amazing what the 3.3 V6 Twin-Turbo can do when on a run.

Quick trip to your neck of the woods Shy. First time I have seen my folks since December.

Thankfully well outside the new Leicester lockdown zone!

Cars always achieve good economy in Leicestershire. Did you start with a full tank and is the range just 340 miles? Good to hear your folks are safe and well, still not been allowed in my parents house since early this year. They are taking shielding to an Olympic Sport level aiming for Gold Medals I think. We have booked The HEADLAND Hotel in Newquay for September to celebrate our 17th Wedding Anniversary so should get there and back on a single tank. Not been to Newquay since 2003 just before we got married, hopefully God will provide a nice weekend of late summer sunshine for us.

Yep, 340 ish miles per tank sounds about right.  I don’t look at miles per tank or mpg too often, but yesterday’s cruise from North Somerset to Leics. was probably as good as it will get economy wise, so thought I’d check and grab a pic.

32.7 on the way back this morning including some fun in Sport on the Somerset B roads on the last stretch.

Have relatives in Newquay.  Decent spot with lots of gorgeous beaches / scenery nearby. Enjoy it when you get there.

Not been for 17 years and the weather that August was fantastic 27C all week. Great beaches and nice walks with the odd pint consumed of course. Can't wait it will be 10 months since our last holiday last November.

So we decided because the weather looked a bit indifferent not to go anywhere this weekend but instead booked a 2 night stay in one of our favourite places in England, the wonderful Lake District with B & B plus dinner costing just £273 total with a £50 deposit staying Friday 31st July and returning Sunday 2nd August.

Back in the Superb today and it gave a solid 46.3mpg on my 27 mile commute. Tank average now upto 38.9mpg which is close to what I have been getting and range is an indicated 600 miles.:whew:

Despite soaking wet :rain: roads in the last 24 hours another couple of decent commutes giving a 41.7 and 43.9mpg and overall on this tank after 405 miles driven still have 220 mile range left with since refuelling average now at 39.3mpg. Traction impressive as always with no wheelspin and no traction control light flashing away on the dashboard. It's like the car thinks the roads are bone dry.:mmm:

Went past 450 miles this morning on the current tank with a quarter of a tank left. Average speed dropped to 43mph but since refuelling average crept upto 39.5mpg despite overtaking that Audi Q5 and Mercedes E Class estate (they were probably diesels). Car having a rest for a week so probably fill up next Thursday now.:rain:

Not driven the wife's Karoq for nearly 2 weeks so using it for my 3 nights this week and got 59.5mpg tonight (20mpg better than the Superb). Wife had driven just 52 miles since I filled her car up on the 28th June so it needs a good run which it will get with 160 miles over the weekend on my commute. Her long term average has risen to 48.5mpg after 2,600 miles on the Long Term screen.

Got 53.3mpg going home and 62.8mpg coming to work tonight so can't really understand why anyone would buy a diesel SUV unless you tow something heavy. 150 miles covered on a quarter of a tank.:)

  • Author

Last 2 commutes in the Karoq were 51.7 and 57.5mpg improving the since refuelling average to 49.9mpg. After 214 miles driven still 365 mile range left in the small 50 litre tank (total range 579 miles). This is cheap SUV to run and when I was driving through our local town I was behind a 19 plate BMW X1 and I could see easily over their roof such is the high seating position in the Skoda compared to the almost hatchback height of the X1.:)

Someone said my Sportline looked like any other so decided to make it a bit more unique. In a tribute to my first fast Skoda which came with green caliper’s painted all 4 in Skoda metallic Rallye Green and removed the rust on all 4 hubs which VAG cars specialise in. Quite pleased 😁 with the result and threw on my 8.5J x 19” RS6 Audi replica’s to make it even more unique. Definitely a one off now still with 363PS.

Completely changes the look of the car on the Audi replicas.

Huge rim protection on those tyres! What are they?

They are Michelin Pilot Sport 235/35R19 but when these tyres are worn out (probably good for another 10,000 miles of motorway munching) will either fit 245/40 or 245/35 tyres because they are 12mm wider than the standard 8J Sportline alloys. Yeah I'm pleased with the look and the finish on the brake calipers is like your factory red Brembo's. Took me 5 hours from start to finish.

Cheers Shy and good work on the calipers.

I may not suffer from OCD when it comes to cleaning the bodywork but if anyone looks at the calipers close up then hopefully they will think must have been a factory option or the car is a HYBRID (green equals ECO which is the mode I usually choose).🚲

Hybrid...... 😉

Think Porsche paint their Hybrid models brake calipers green.

First impressions of the Michelin's on my first commute this morning is that they are as quiet as the Bridgestone S001 from the factory. The ride is still plush which did surprise me as these are 35 profile tyres and the factory ones are a higher 40 profile. Lastly my commute is 27.3 miles on factory tyres and as these are lower profile it now shows as 28.2 miles so over 10 commutes my mileage has risen from 273 miles to 282 miles. So an indicated full tank of 564 miles will be an actual 546 miles. I can live with this as I have no plans to sell the car until it has covered at least 100,000 miles. The good news for those that don't appreciate my fuel consumption data I will stop as it will be over reading by 18 miles per tank I can't be bothered to do the conversion and will enjoy the driving instead.:whew:

Do you know the easy-to-use calculation factor so that you can keep to the posted speed limits, without slowing-down any following traffic?.........

We do see some of the local lads with cotton reel rims driving quite slowly, especially in speed-camera areas.

Sensible Q?, why not keep to the original tyre size.

As the wheels appear to be rotating about 3% faster assume that speedo is also 3% out. Just wearing these tyres out that were on my 336bhp Octavia and just bought a nearly new set of PS4S from Penguin at a fair price in the right size which will go on the replica wheels next year at the correct size 235/40R19 from his 280 Superb Sportline now he has bought a Golf R estate instead.

Wow, not too complicated then........

From a 280 Superb, to an R estate, that's unusual. A tad quicker of course, but noticeably smaller than the Skoda, at least from the B pillar back.

Nice car though, I'd have one for myself, but since SWMBO is keeping hers & I'm allowed to drive it (getting it serviced, refuelling, shopping....) I need to find a suitable alternative.

A Leon Cupra ST might be an obvious choice but it's bit cramped inside, used Cupra Ateca are too expensive, + they often lack the desirable comfort & sound pack.

I can't find a Superb 272 / 280 with my desired options that cost less than £40K new, same with the Passat 272 R-line Edition, not so well equipped as the equivalent Superb but quite cheap, £30-£32K for low-milage pre-registered cars on "K" plates.
