It is USB male to fakra male so that is the one I assumed was used to connect to the yellow fakra and then to the head unit but obviously it does work lol so I have no idea what it is meant to be connected to.

You should have 2X cables that go into back of head unit that have a female USB plug on end. That one goes into one of those then other is your extra one you can route to glovebox or wherever in car. One of the two female USB cables has a 4 pin block connector on end the other a 6 I think? I assumed the 6pin one was for the factory USB port and AUX together and used it on that one. Never tried it though.

  • The job is never finished until you leave DNA behind!

  • Small update as have now gone back in and put a generic external microphone in place. I opted not to put it behind the trim where factory one is as it's blanked off on driver side and didn't think it

  • That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine.   If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option.

Yes I have the 6pin white connector which has twin USB female and the 4 pin white with 1x USB female connected to the head unit.

At the moment one of the twin USB outputs doesn't work so waiting on the seller to give me a response on that.

As the same as you I thought the black fakra male to USB male lead was used to connect to the yellow fakra connector that I disconnected from the unit in the glove box and then connected to the single USB lead which would allow use of the original USB and Aux but it doesn't work and now the seller is saying it won't.

I wa thinking, can you plus that lead staigt to the usb port and not to the yellow connector?

I mean disonnect the lead on the usb port and connect the unit directly to it.

My 6 pin and 4 pin were both to single female USB plugs, no double in my lot.

For anyone looking at sim stuff, there are lots of deals on preloaded data sims that last for long periods to be used, THREE does a 24 month one EE does 12 month etc. I've seen places selling them very cheap with large data caps on them but can't find anywhere 😞 Used to keep getting them in fb ads for months. One extra gadget benefit of having a sim in, you could have a tracking app so anytime ignition is on car would be trackable.

Some good monthly paid cheap sim deals on here too £4 a month for 12gb etc https://www.moneysupermarket.com/mobile-phones/sim-only/data-only-sims/

Wouldn't make any difference as the yellow connector goes directly to the the usb port as far as I am aware.

These are what they sent me. The last photos are the lead I thought was for connecting to the yellow USB connector.

That was meant to be Fakra male to SMA Male not female to male.

With the farka plugs, it's male to male for DAB, but is it farka 'Z' male or farka 'C' male, I see both online and link above is for 'C' but you mentioned 'Z'?

Fakra C is basically for GPS and DAB, the lettering denotes the keyway of the connector so to stop incorrect male and female connections. The type Z version is basically a universal fit as it has no keyway on it.

That's the one I bought, works decent but you need the USB dongle for the screw in bit.

Yea got an email from aliexpress earlier with one I had saved at £17.05 on offer but after VAT etc its £20.79, then I saw this on ebay and thought might as well try and get it all quicker. Seller listed as in China but feedback seems to suggest they are being shipped from within UK storage. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384103936534

It might be a faulty cable that they sent but I have no way of testing it so until someone can confirm that by connecting to the yellow connector and then to the usb to the head unit and they plug something into the factory USB and aux socket that theirs works or not.

Will be interesting to see what they say,  let us know if they respond.

The seller is asking for a picture of how everything is wired and see with their engineer.

Can you post on so that I can send it to him?

Seller says it should work with the original cable and that I should contact him if I have any Issues.

I guess I have to wait for my unit.

As I have a memory stick plugged into the extra USB in glovebox and mine is same as pics in listing no double USB one just 2 singles one on a 4 pin block and other on a 6 pin, I will use the one intended for factory USB port to try the DAB thing. I never use the factory one as I hate wires on show, so will do nicely! 🤞

That said I live at the very edge of the UK and have only a handful of DAB stations available which is pretty crap and poor signal, but will finish it off nicely for if I ever want to listen to DAB and I am closer to civilisation where I can actually get a good reception.

I think it will depend on which version of USB & AUX connection you already have fitted. I have just took mine out and i have the type that has the 5volts on the outside and the 4 data signals on the inside, the lead that carries the data signals goes to the yellow Fakra that originally connects to the unit in the glove box, the 5volts is taken from the green iso connector from the unit in the glove box. If you have USB & AUX connection that doesn't have the 5volts on the outside then hopefully the sellers supplied cable should work.

Just to add, it looks like the only way i am going to get mine to work is either use the correct cable as shown in the picture which i found in an Alpine radio installation manual but i cannot seem to be able to find anywhere where i can buy that that type of USB to Fakra or i will have to add in a 5volts and ground to the ISO harness that came with the android unit to match up with the correct pins on the green ISO in the quadlock.

Why would Skoda go that road??

I will let you know, my unit isn't shipped yet.. ordered one week ago.

Mine is a 2014 vrs

I think a lot of what to do with it is what version stereo system in the car and also what what prepped for upgrade availability like Smartlink, Carplay, Android auto etc.

My car is a 2015 but MY16 Octavia with Amundsen MIB2 Sat Nav no cd but 2 SD slots and Smartlink ready.

I got bored of waiting for the seller to respond to my queries so after 3 days of no replies I decided to open a dispute and straight away the seller responded.  The best thing is the only answer he gave to all my questions was where I asked him what that Fakra to USB lead was for and where is it meant to be connected and he responded "this is for oem factory usb cable friend" which contradicts where he said the other day "our usb cable cannot support original USB" so go figure!!!
