Yes i activated the new sim in a spare phone 1st before trying on the head unit, it works fine in all my phones just not in the head unit. One of the suggestions i found was to make sure the sim pin lock is off and mine is. I am trying to rule out that:

1. The head unit is compatible using a Vodafone UK sim

2.  With it being a pay as you go Vodafone sim, is that the reason as my contract EE sim works fine.

It would be weird, for me a SIM is a SIM no matter what the contract is ...

Sorry, I can't see what is wrong expept the network or the band of the SIM that may be different.

There are some apps that tell you which bands are compatible with units.

  • The job is never finished until you leave DNA behind!

  • Small update as have now gone back in and put a generic external microphone in place. I opted not to put it behind the trim where factory one is as it's blanked off on driver side and didn't think it

  • That screen to map out the steering controls is identical to that on mine.   If you did want to add DAB to it by the way then I can highly recommend the rear amplifier and splitter option.

Yes I thought it was weird as well but apparently some mobile carriers might not be supported.

Anyway I have sorted it now. The head unit shows 2 sim slots in the settings but the only visible place to put a sim card is with the sim dongle they supply. Looking at some other units and they show a 2nd slot on the back of the unit but looking at mine I couldn't see one. I decided to take the back off the unit and there was the 2nd sim slot. I put the Vodafone sim in and it works but will not work in the sim dongle.

Basically sim slot 1 is directly fitted to the board and sim slot 2 is the sim dongle.

But it doesn't explain why...

Could you check something for me? I was wondering in the canbus was Universal or only for vag cars.

A buddy want's to install an Android in his 206. Can you tell me if you have Peugeot in the settings?

The canbus does loads of vehicles, just means thar you have to maybe select a slightly different car to get things to work probably though.

Thanks, so the canbus does work for other vehicles.

And this one has the 206 so with the same model of canbus he will get the steering wheel control.

Thanks

So, bit of a strange one.

Got the fakra cable last night. Fired it into the car today but I'm getting no signal.

On you your car @wagster, the cable would go into the double female slot, where the fm aerial goes. Min wouldn't fit, as there are wee fins on the male fakra

The double white is only for AM/FM radio.

If originally had factory DAB fitted and you want to use the lead for DAB you need to connect to the black connector.

If you want to use it for GPS connect it to the blue connector.

Ah OK, that's where I've gone wrong.

I'll need to go back out and have a look. I'm sure the black one I had was for USB. Probably mistaken lol.

Yellow connector is the USB and that is what it is not working on mine to allow me to use the factory fitted USB and Aux. Apparently according to the seller their usb cannot support original USB but as I never use the original USB I am not really that concerned.

This is strange, usb is a simple +/- 5v and data.... I don't see why it won't work.

And the installation vidéo says it works

I haven't opened mine yet but would something like this fit?

€ 8,59  43%OFF | 12V Car Radio USB Switch Panel USB Cable Adapter Audio Device for Volkswagen Touran Passat for Skoda Octavia Fabia RCD510 RCD310
https://a.aliexpress.com/_uw06NU

It seems that you can connect straight to the usb port if I believe this picture

I would probably say that it would not work as looking at the wiring diagrams it looks like the yellow connector in the glovebox is for the USB but that connector only carries the data signals, the 5volts is taken from the ISO harness.

The green connector that plugs into the factory USB looks like the 5volts from the ISO harness is on the outside of the connector and the inner is just for the data signals so the AliExpress one found won't work with the OEM USB in my opinion, it looks like they are getting you to also fit their USB port to make it work.

Another way if i can be bothered looking into it at some point would be to add in the 5 volts to the sellers ISO harness so that the OEM USB gets power and then the connector that they included that i already have connected to the yellow connector should then work through the USB back to the head unit.

I will look into it when I get my unit...

DAB sorted now, cheers.

Funnily enough, I went a wee drive through my town, as there are some blackspots, even when I was using the stock radio.

The new set up doesn't even drop, better reception than even the original.

Glad it is working for you as well.  Which one and where did you buy it from in the end?

It was the one you had quoted earlier from Amazon.

My next step is to find out why my cigarette lighter port isn't working anymore.

Thinking that the dealer did something when they were fixing the gear lever sensor fault I had

Mine was faulty when the car was new, just out of the dealer.

I took it back and ironically, the dealer took a pen and pulled out the pins that where too bent and it started to work...

check if the pins in the lighter are giving a good contact

I'll check that. Its a double USB socket that's in now ands relatively new so shouldn't be an issue.

As I say, it worked before the garage got their hands on it lol

I sent a message to the seller to see what he has to say.

I asked him about a workaround or part to be fitted.

Will be interesting to see what they say,  let us know if they respond.

Yeah, is that not the one that feeds into the glovebox?

Apparently it's not. It was still in the box with the old stereo. Back to the video then.

It is USB male to fakra male so that is the one I assumed was used to connect to the yellow fakra and then to the head unit but obviously it does work lol so I have no idea what it is meant to be connected to.
