At long last... SW Version 1896

Featured Replies

Totally agree, I reported my car to the Police and AA that came to 'fix' it the first time it emergency braked, due to ACC, on the M3 with a car behind as i was overtaking a slow lorry in the middle lane. The car behind thought I had brake tested him as there was nothing ahead.  The police were aware of the issue, as were the AA and recommended not using ACC until its fixed. Honest John has been contacted by many on here, but motoring journalists don't seem to want to raise tricky issues that may have them fall out of favour with the major car manufacturers. The other problem is unless you regularly drive the vehicle its not apparent, how many use ACC regularly? Testing a vehicle on a journalist run test track day doesn't find the day to day issues.

Luckily for me its easy, I wont have another Skoda, sadly, as this was my 4th Octavia and I really like most of the car.

@matrix2020 Did the police caution your car, read it's rights etc?

Jokes aside, hopefully you didn't have an accident with the car behind.

I think you hit the nail on the head with regards to journalist's not wanting to bite the hand that ultimately feeds them, and often their road tests are on tracks or cherry picked roads where they are unlikely to turn on those features.

I could write volumes about VAG and software bugs, I deal with them quite often.

Did anyone notice that after update to 1896 there's a narrow black strip at the top of the screen while using CarPlay? I'm about 99% sure it wasn't there before that software update.

Just had mine updated today and I can't see this using Android Auto, the welcome message for it has changed though. The startup time seems improved too, I've not had chance to test anything else yet but no errors so far.

After almost a year of trying, Ive finally had the update to software version 1896 (from 1803) this is the large update that is supposed to fix all issues with ACC, headlights set to driving on the right etc.

Too early to tell what it's fixed but the headlight setting is now correctly set to driving on the left at least. I also had the ACC bug, and the sat nav not saving any settings bug. Time will tell if they have been resolved.

That's similar to what is in my car, produced in January. I've got the following:

Device part number: 5E3035816J

Hardware: H58

Software: 1889

Display unit/control panel hardware: H47

Display unit/control panel software: 2092

Navigation database: 22.6

Media codec: 3.1.4

Radio database: 1.30.30

Your navigation database should update automatically if you have a Skoda Connect subscription active. Otherwise I don't see anything wrong with those software versions. Software 1889 is mostly the same as 1896, I believe. 1889 is the factory version while 1896 is applied to older versions.

after giving my car a drive for around 120 miles yesterday,i had crash warning signings coming up,the sat nav was trying to take me off the motorway and then telling me to go around the roundabout and rejoin motorway .so in other words it does not know what it is doing.i noticed my software and sat nav have not been updated either.it makes you wonder when you get a new car and the bloody software on it is out of date.i contacted skoda who responded saying it looks like the dealer has not done what they supposed to and they will get back to me.another how can i get rid of acceleration noise on a vrs it done my head in.i have looked but unable to find how to turn or lower the noise ,i know it might sound great to a boy racer but not to me and i am no slouch when it comes to driving.not impressed after owning the car for 2 days.

The noise maker is a VCDS or OBD11 thing, at least it was on my current car.

cheers for that,i am up to speed on this tech stuff,so how do i get turned down or off.cheers

You're going to have to find someone local who has either of these bits of software, connecting lead and/or laptop to plug it into your diagnostic port they can then scan your can and find the noise making device and electronically switch it off of reduce it to absolute minimum.

many thanks i think i know a perfect guy.cheers

Or you can switch to Comfort mode.

Or you can program the Individual mode to have the settings that you like (Sport?) but without the sound.

But in either case you will have to switch to the new mode each time you start the car (after waiting 30+ seconds for the Infotainment system to fire up).

Or you just get it updated and enjoy the system being available as you sit down onto the driver's seat...

i tried the comfort mode but it effected the cars performance i just got away with not causing a accident.i iam blaming that because when i pulled out it did not have the power to pull away quickly.since i moved to normal and sports it is totally different car.

Comfort will "dull down" the acceleration for a more comfortable ride.

The car isn't down on power, it's throttle response.  So if you planted your foot down more it should have reacted with increased power.

I could be wrong, but I doubt this car has different ECU map's for each mode setting.

Not sure that I follow. I wish the system was faster to start up but I do not think there is a solution for that.

Nor to having it always revert to Normal mode on startup

I am on 1896 by the way.

Perhaps you mean that the car, having started up in Normal mode, is quieter, due to the mods you hope to make.

In my case there are other obligatory changes, preferably before moving off, so what difference does one more make.

  • Auto start/stop off
  • Lane assist off

As far as the mode goes, I am happy with any setting except Eco, so long as the fake engine noise is gone, so I set it to Comfort for tootling around town and Sport when out, which is far rarer, for a more spirited drive in the country.

There is no less power in Comfort mode but the throttle response is slower so it takes a bigger stab on the pedal to get it moving. And even that can be eliminated without using the touchscreen by using the gear lever to move from D to S.

Sorry, I was a bit unclear 😃

I thought you were on older software. With the newest software, the infotainment should already be fired up when you get seated. I've never had to wait for it.

Blame Dieselgate for that, cars have to startup in the mode used for the WLTP emissions testing now, which means Normal mode.

From opening the car door and pressing the Start button, it can take 15, 30 or even 60 seconds for my press on the Set button to result in the screen being displayed that allows me to turn off Auto Start/stop.

Ditto for the Mode button to set the mode to Comfort.

Ditto for the Clima button.

Ditto for the music to start playing.

Although, of course, once one of them responds, so will the rest.

It is never fast, but it can vary depending on whether the doors were locked, how long I waited after opening the door, or how long since the car was last used, etc.

Whereas in our 2015 VW Golf Alltrack the Auto Start/Stop and Mode and Clima are all physical buttons with immediate effect.

I , and the dealer, do not consider this a warranty fault. It is just one of the poorly implemented features of this model.

Was your update OTA or in performed in Dealers?

Dealer maybe hasn't applied the release codes perhaps, I am sure there was a thread only the other day about this.

You should try the reset process that I think someone replied to your locked thread.

If that doesn't work then assuming this was a factory fitted option selected when built, the dealers will need to fix.

I haven't had chance to look for the thread, but essentially they may have not done the process of contacting the servers to release the FEC/SWAP codes inside your radio.
