When an OTA update is available, the vehicle's infotainment screen will notify the user. The installation can be started from the goodbye screen after turning off the vehicle.

Hopefully I'm looking in the wrong place as I don't have Online Mode as an option under Users / Settings. I want to see if 1985 fixes my infotainment unit issues before another trip to the dealer.

Looks like you've got a couple of notifications... tap the area I've highlighted in the attached image to see what they are. I find these are normally notifications for app updates. When the notifications first arrives it will appear on the infotainment screen for a few seconds before disappearing.

I thought / hoped you had cracked but but unfortunately not. Messages were 'Pay to Park can be installed..." & "Installation of manual has been completed".

If I do Settings / System / Check for Updates, it shows as nothing available. Frustrating...

I recently had 1941. Opened up all my settings until the green light above my head beside the SOS call button was green. I then went ahead and connected to my houses wifi while parked in the drive. Less than 12 hours later, an update for 1985 appeared. Took a while to download and install over the next day or so, but it’s done.

Since the 1985 version, are you still having problems with infotainment?

Isn't the face-lift supposed to come with a much higher version? Mine is 2630.

Last week the software was updated to 1985 After that the restarts stopped. Hopefully the problem is solved.

Hello everyone,

Better late then never. Last week my problem was finally fixed after two visits at official service in Kranj. At first appointment they updated (TPI 2065556/14) system software on my infotainment (1810 -> 1896 -> 1941). Everything was working fast and smooth way better then before but sadly after 1-2h I got the same issue. I went straight back to the garage and there was no errors on the computer. They sended some pictures and videos to factory and they got instructions to replace the infotainment screen. Two days later my car was back in their garage to change infotainment screen and after that there is no more any problems. I'm adding pictures of system information (before/update/later) to see changes.

Here are all the problem I had last week:

  • Touch was not working

  • Unknown clicking with ''click'' sound

  • Endlessly restarting

  • Infotainment screen turning on/off when car was locked

  • Radio/Multimedia sound was muting in pausing

  • Maneuver parking currently unavailable

  • GPS location was wrong (old location when car was turned on)

I hope there won't be any more problems. Fingers crossed!

Funny thing now... All the mentioned symptoms started few days ago in two octavias bought in my company in 2023. At the same time?!

I had the same problems last year, but it just resolved itself somehow after it almost deplated the battery.

I updated the fw on mine this time from 1941 to 1985, but that did nothing.

Could this mean there it could have something to do with their servers or some update?

I've encountered also slow start of the infotainment with "loading settings" message staying on for few minutes after starting the car.

It's kind of a big coincidence that it starts at the same time on two cars...

That's funny. I also got mine updated to version 1985 a few months ago and everything was fine with the infotaintment until a couple days ago. It's like you describe @fox033 and I also got the "loading settings" message for a while.

Since a few days ago the infotaintment system can't do anything but reboot endessly. It only improves (slightly) when I get a message in the dashboard saying that the traffic sign recognition assistant is not working.

Absurd.

Hello!

I've been following the forum for a long time. I've been suffering from infotainment errors for 4 years now. I take my car to the brand service for repairs 4-5 times a year, they always just update the software. After a few months of good updates, some errors are fixed, but there's always a new error. I don't drive the car much, it currently has 33,400 km on it.

I bought a new car so that I wouldn't have to go to the service for a while... It's unbelievable to me how much they don't test the software and how weak the Skoda IT team is. Shame!

The service always reassures me that I should try to go home and test it. But the manufacturer should do that!

What is the Skoda warranty worth? I'll tell you. Nothing!

I hated SKODA for life.

Hi SZABO,

I experienced exactly the same problems that you describe for over three years with my 2020 Octavia. Endless trips to dealers all ended the same way. Lots of software updates, reboots, fuse removals and replacements, none of which worked. The infotainment system just continued to go crazy, doing it’s own thing and making the car essentially unusable and dangerous to drive.

Tired of getting nowhere, I resorted to complaining to Skoda UK by email, detailing as much as possible all the occasions when the car displayed infotainment problems and sending several videos (with sound) showing the faults. I then received a phone call from a Skoda UK Customer Service agent who was quite sympathetic, and a case number was raised concerning my complaint. I was advised to book my car in to my local dealer and Skoda UK would liaise with them to decide how to proceed. Almost inevitably yet another reboot, followed by a software update was recommended and carried out. This was done in the early Autumn, and from then on until early April I had little trouble, apart from the radio occasionally starting up spontaneously. Then, on the first really hot day this year, all the old problems cropped up again including the infotainment system becoming permanently live, flattening and damaging the battery.

I took more videos of the system malfunctioning and emailed them to Skoda UK once again. I also copied the videos to my local dealer who agreed to liaise with Skoda UK. This time the help and perseverance of my local Skoda dealer paid off and, after another reboot/software update failed whilst the car was still with the dealer, Skoda UK authorised a replacement infotainment screen under warranty. This was done last week. Since then, despite some pretty hot days, I’ve had absolutely no trouble with the infotainment system at all. Early days, I know, but I hope at last that this will be the end of the problem. My dealer was really proactive and helpful in all of this.

I also meant to add that it really helps to keep with the same dealer when trying to get a proper resolution to the infotainment system malfunctioning.

If you don’t stay with the same dealer you go back to square one each time with the reboot/software update merry go round and it’s hard to get beyond this.

I also think it’s absolutely essential to email the main Skoda organisation of the country where you are and get a case number assigned to your complaint. Videos of the problem with sound are essential too. Apparently the clicks heard when the screen goes crazy are a good indication that it’s at fault and replacement is the only cure.

Good luck with resolving your case!

Fully agree. Not only do they have knowledge of the car and work done on it we as owners/drivers, the customer, can build a good working relationship with them. Being polite (regardless of frustration levels) is always a positive; in most cases it’s the software that’s the issue, not the dealer. And yes, videos or audio recordings help them to help us.

Dear ChubbsH!

I already wrote a letter of complaint to Skoda last August. Then they simply shook me off. But now I have decided that one way or another, I will go to the end.

I wrote a letter of complaint to SKODA again, supporting it with many videos. The manufacturer called the car to the local brand service, for diagnostics. I always took the car back to where I bought it.

Fortunately, the error occurred again in the service, so they could see it with their own eyes and document the error! (the MIB starts by itself when the car is locked, etc.). They said that they would update the software again, and that we had to leave the car there. I got nervous that they just wanted to shake me off again.

I wrote another email, in which I wrote that if they did not completely solve this problem for us, I would contact a lawyer.

The next day we received a notification in the afternoon that they had installed the 1985 software and were testing the car, it stayed there for another night. The next day they called again and said that they had recorded a voltage drop and the multimedia system spontaneously turning on. They were completing the process of processing the technical request and approving the MIB replacement. I was happy that FINALLY! Hallelujah!

Since my warranty had already expired, I had to pay 20% of the retail price of the MIB, which was about 200 euros. The manufacturer pays 80%. The dealer pays for the labor costs.

I had to pay the 200 euros in advance and I have to wait about 2 weeks for the new display to arrive.

I am a little disappointed because they should have done it completely free of charge! I ask, where is the price of all the fuel, that I kept bringing the car back with the same problem, and the

price of the second car's gasoline, which we bring from the service and then go to get the car?

But I'm not interested anymore, I don't want to argue anymore! Just do it and make it good!

Thank you for giving me the strength to fight, I'm grateful for it!

Sorry for the mistakes, but I don't speak English, so I translated it with google translate.

Have had this issue in the past and have documented it here. On software 1985 version now, but it has happened in the last few days again, kept the radio on and off overnight with the ignition off and car locked, and battery wouldn’t start the following afternoon. Two things I found have helped, screen cleaner on the screen and keeping the screen covered when not in the car. Might sound a bit cuckoo but it’s like when the sun hits the infotainment system and it gets hot, it starts going crazy and doing stuff by itself. I keep the infotainment covered now when it’s hot or when I’m out of the car and it seems to have worked.

Mine is still stuck in the 1896 version for software and has been a disaster. Not getting any OTA updates nor via help with a Skoda dealership. What do I do? Car is very buggy and I’ve had this software for 18 months since I get the car used last year and having no luck with getting an update.

2020 (70 plate) 1.5 TSI SE L estate

You can update the car manually, the procedure to follow is pinned in the list of topics.

  • 3 weeks later...

Perhaps a bit late to the party on this, but the infotainment system on my 2023 Octavia SE-L has been playing up like this since June. Yesterday it spent over 5 hours during a journey clicking and cycling between off/on/reboot. It also does the same when the car is locked and not in use.

Clearly it needs to be fixed but the only temporary solution I’ve found is to turn off the proximity sensor in the infotainment display, which does seem to have worked for now.

Ignore my last post, disabling the proximity sensor only solved the problem for a day and then back to on/off/reboot loop, whether locked or unlocked. Only short term solution was to remove the Infotainment fuse to stop the battery draining.

Quick update - been back to the dealer twice with restarts, disconnects and blank screen. All SW has been updated and diagnostics ran (twice) but nothing appearing as a fault. 2 days before warranty expired, issues still happening so dealer has raised a fault with Skoda UK and will continue to investigate under warranty.

Car goes in on Thursday for a few days (!?) with the comment that if they can't find & rectify the fault, it will be a new Infotainment unit fitted. Hope they keep to their word.
