TMC traffic events no longer being received...firmware update required?

Well I finally hit an impasse with Skoda, here is their latest reply:

I see no point in flogging this horse anymore.

On a more positive note, I am working on a solution that is completely different to the techy one described above. It won't suit everyone, but for those with MIB2 and stuck between out-of-date maps with traffic data, or up-to-date maps with no traffic data, this could potentially be of interest. Once I've tested it all end-to-end I will report back.

Getting an alternative unit. People look at Android based products and I think Pioneer. The old mib1 chestnut solution. Not sure how good they are.

The other solutions for DIY for mib2 are now out on the thread plus a working one for mib1.

I’m just letting any VW owners that may be lurking here know that I successfully reactivated the TMC on my mib 2 high using 32782 in the 5F module using OBD11 pro.

  • if YOU had contracted the third party, then yes, BUT it was Audi who contracted a third party to provide the service to YOU. Therefore it IS to do with them.

  • I think the vehicle age thing is a red herring. The dealer is spoke to checked his (newer) Golf which had the same problem.  He had checked their “hub” for any information and nothing was forthcoming

Observing with great interest here, but one question re the MIB2STD, lots of talk on using 2 SD cards ... I thought the SD cards required to be Skoda original cards with the security permission (maybe wrong term used) folder/format sector.

If so re the 2 card solution, does it require an additional horrendously expensive Skoda SD card or is there a work around or am I mistaken in my interpretation so far?

Excellent work so far from all 🙂

Two cards. Putting the fix to one side the standard unit isn't fixed to the card except on Seat where it's fixed to the release of the card except you can use the "workaround" to sort that out.

The work around is this:

Steps:

  1. Download the latest standard MIB2 maps
  2. on the infotainment go to settings, safely remove, sd1 card
  3. remove sd1 card from glove box slot
  4. long press on the on / off to reboot it a couple of times
  5. insert sd card in to computer
  6. copy and paste all contents to a directory on your computer
  7. Format the SD card keep it as fat32 and leave format settings as default in file explorer (don't forget to push the card lock mechanism to off) (ditto in a MAC or delete all from the SD card)
  8. Copy the new downloaded map version to the SD card (after unzipping it)
  9. Replace /maps/EEC/EEC_WLD/OVERALL.NDS on the SD CARD with the one from the original SD card
  10. eject the sd card (on a MAC run CleanMyDrive on the SD card - then eject)
  11. Inserted the card into the card 1 slot in glove box whilst infotainment is off
  12. power on and go to navigation

Yet to be tested by me is whether you can do the @pcbbc / @bigade1 fix the overall.nds fix.... I'm away, I'm sure you can.

I envisage that if you want to use the latest maps use one card, if you want TMC but old maps, the other card. We use the car with the mib2 standard in it as a rural run around. Single track roads... queues don't get on it. If heading on busy roads you might swap cards. For rural Wales think TMC doesn't add much. Hit the M4, the valleys and England TMC would come in handy. Hence the option of two card working. Not ideal. Best solution is with mib2 high. You need to code this yourself or get someone else too. Offers above.

Any self respecting IT guy should be able to do it on the mib2 high. The car runs a distributed control system which VCDS / Obdeleven

Pro acts to program each component part. 1970s computer thing. Now they call it DCS... that's the only thing that was changed in 50 years 😂. I remember our computer science lecturer getting excited about it and that other fangled thing of meshed computers 🤔 (Arcnet to become internet).... Not forgetting microcomputers. Punched cards, line printers, Teletype 45s and paper tape. Well if you can do that you can program your car.... without the punch cards 😉.

The 12 points Seat workaround above are with a valid VAG SD card ofcourse. They are not fussy whether it's VW, Skoda or Seat mib2 cards. You need that for the CID. So for a two card set up you need a second Vag card if the software isn't hacked to take any card using the toolbox mentioned.

The Seat workaround you deploy if the map is later than the card (higher number). For those downgrading maps you wouldn't need to. Ie. If you had v11 card and a Seat you would need the workaround. V13 say you would not need it in that instance for V12 with the mods above.

Yes I grew up with paper tape, 80 column punch card, 4k IBM 1401 computers, Autocoder and machine code,  and then IBM 360's but on went on via Cobol programming to system, security and infrastructure design  including  corporate anti virus systems etc. etc. anything useful in the context of my MIB2 has been long forgotten.........

Now I am retired I repair cameras and convert digital cameras to work with Infrared light - so not much help there either...............

Buy a genuine card off eBay or similar auction site, where they are available for around 1/10th of the cost of buying from Skoda.

Yes just look at their % approval score. Where my Skoda 32gb came from and I did make one using a so called Gold card for fun. Cheaper to buy a Vag card off ebay. Basically the CID on all Vag cards are interchangeable. How Vag makes money on sales of map cards.

So has this problem now been fixed at last? If so, what would I need to do and how do I do it? I have a 2016 Superb L&K with Columbus and Canton sound. I also have update CD that I had just purchased for my old Mk2 Superb L&K which had Columbus system (old) just before the car was written off, would be usable on the new system or not?

2016 that would be a mib2 high. The later would be sounds like mib1 high. Before my time. Mib2 maps you update with @MartiniB excellent links.

330 is the release. You need a 64gb standard SD card to be safe... gets marginal on 32gb. If using a Mac you need to use cleanmydrive after its on the SD else it will trip on the signature due to mac rubbish in the download. PCs are fine. That's the map.

Then it's @pcbbcpost

Horses for courses. If you want DIY you buy an

https://obdeleven.com/en/home/62-pro-pack-0758277987813.html

That's the black one works with Android or iOS. White one cheaper Android only. You can mix and match just the device and Pro license. Some people buy from Amazon on next day delivery then buy the Pro license online.

Then once installed you do a scan. Then in to the 5f unit. Adaptions. Search TMC. Put the correct code in as per pcbbc, save long hold on green button of app. Reboot the unit. 10 second hold on, on / off. Job done.

My example on the 14 code for mib2 highv

Seems I have an Mib2 high (Colombus with SSD jukebox), but no OBDEleven or VCDS. I only have Car Scanner Pro.

Without trawling through 26 pages, is there a way to modify my existing Satnav files to fix this bug (either editing 15 to 14 or 32783 to 32782), or do I have to find someone with the above scanners to do it for me?

Mods - As there appears to be a workaround, a sticky with clear instructions would probably be a good idea.

Cheers!

Unfortunatly, as said further up the post you will need an obd11 or Vcds

You just search for tmc in your Adaptions in the 5f unit

Sorry for being thick, but could somebody please tell me where one goes in VCDS to make the changes needed to get TMC up-and-running again?

Hi, in my obd11 it's under the 5f Multimedia then search fee based services tmc.  I believe if not the same Vcds is similar if not the same

Under “Select control module” press the “Select” button

Press the button “5F Information Electr.”

Press the button “Adaptation - 10”

In the “search” box type “TMC”

From the drop down select entry  “IDE05111 fee based traffic information TMC”

Enter the required new value, check the “reboot” checkbox at the bottom of the window, click save and confirm with OK.

That bit is identical to obdeleven

Press the button “5F Information Electr.”

Press the button “Adaptation - 10”

In the “search” box type “TMC”

Then type in and save 😉

Had a reply from my MP who is going to forward my Email to the Department of Transport.

For anyone's interest...

Brilliant! All done and TRAFFIC is up and running again!! Thanks to Rizmod and Tell et al for their help!! 👍🏻

Hi everyone, I am new to to the forum but have been following the posts from a very early stage as I have the same problem (no surprise there then!!).

Great work by all you ‘techies’ who have performed all the research into possible fixes of which I understood nothing.

I see in the previous post numskull is up and running using previous advice.

My car is fitted with Columbus kit including Canton sound with jukebox feature.

Would my fix be the same numskulls and is there anyone in the Manchester area who could apply the fix for me.

I am prepared to travel and would obviously reward such help. Here’s hoping.

Yes that's pcbbc to thank for cracking that one... you need to do the one here. Get the guy to peak at the current tmc code and change

Some units have a slightly different 5 digit starting off point but you finish with the one shown. If 14, it's going to be 15. Save and reboot.

Perhaps you should contact one of the members in Manchester who has VCDS/VCP?

Oops got that backwards... If 15 going to be 14 to get it to work. 5 character then it's the 5 characters 32782 . There was one post where a unit was different to pcbbc starting point.

Anyone know if there is a way of getting an Audi MMI3G B unit to receive INRIX traffic?

We should consider ourselves very lucky, given we’re able to interrogate and make changes to our vehicles systems, allowing us to access and make use of another traffic monitoring system.
Over in the Honda Owners Club forum, they’re complaining about the loss of TM and it seems they have no way to change-over to INRIX and, I presume, it’ll be the same for many other vehicle  manufacturers products too.
