Is there a reset button? Sounds to me is this is a really simple fix or ur infotainment is goosed.

Id try the reset button if there is one using a paper clip. Maybe there's an engineering safe mode?

There is a hidden menu option holding down the menu setup button to update from there but this is for the superb and maybe different to the octavia but It's the same infotainment

I am already in the hidden menu and I cannot excape it. Also if I restart it (push 10 seconds the on/off display button) or I unplug/plugh the infotainment fuse, it restarts and shows directly the hidden menu

I would delete the update on the computer re download it format a genuine usb stick hence the genuine and tap retry.

If that doesn't work I would disconnect the battery for a few hours with the lights on and try again. Then I be shaking

Ur obviously computer illiterate if u tryed a ssd.

The engineering menu has 4 options ones to update and reflash and ones to boot normal

Hello @Mark_skoda,
Have you tried with the recovery files from https://mibsolution.one/#/1/9/MOI3/LG? From top of my head I saw some recovery files some time ago stored on the server, but I'm afraid I'm not aware what they are actually for. Maybe in your case they will boot-up the MIB unit in order to select the USB and then retry the update.
Fingers crossed and good luck with the resurrecting process.

URL fix

Thanks guys.

@SLeeperking you are right the engineering menu has 4 options when you enter it. But mine is in another status. It is like it has already entered the update menu and cannot escape it because it is not finished. As I reboot, it goes always there.

@djmartzian I do not know if it will help, but at the moment URL is wrong

Any idea if the cause could be the car battery? I mean, in some technical documents I found that the technicians should connect the car battery to a charger before to start. The only thing I made it was to have the car engine ON while I was making the update.

What does the directory of your USB stick look like?

It should only have 3 items in it. This is what is should contain, nothing less, nothing more. (Ignore the SD card ▶️ CAR FILES ▶️ MIB3OI_1969, that's like that because it's on my tablet.)

Your USB Stick must just have Meta, Data and the version files on.

Also how did you extract the file? You need to extract it using RAR or WinRAR (for both Windows or iOS), then it should be fine.

Hi everybody,

my car had software v1941. For last maybe 8-10 months it was trying by itself to update by OTA. It has never completed the update, hence the screen always shows a notification and if I push it I read “updating software…”

By reading this forum and others, last week I have tried by myself to update it to v1969 by USB. Downloaded file .rar was correct, also the folders and files in my USB were correct. My USB was 16GB exFAT.

I started the update and it was working correctly. First phase MIB3OI_MCU reached 100%. Probably starting second phase MIB3OI_CPU I got an “image error” (or something similar).

I pushed “retry”, I have tried several times. No luck, always same error.

It seemed I could not do anything more.

Then I also removed and put back the USB, no luck.

Now the system does not read again the USB. It is always on that menu but I cannot push any particular button, only “retry”, or push on the different phases and it shows the current version and that it was not possible to make the update.

I can reboot it but I cannot switch it off. Hence I suppose it will discharge the car battery. So I have unplugged the "infotainment" fuse and it is completely OFF.

Any idea?

Thanks

Hi @TheWanderer

thanks, but we should jump the step you wrote. Everything was exatly as you descripted: only the two folders and one file. I used WinRar to extract.

As I wrote in my first post, the update was running correctly. First phase MIB3OI_MCU reached 100%. Then the problem started and I am still there 😞

I think something has been demaged - I do not know how and why - inside the unit.

No idea how to proceed.

I have tried only to disconnect the car battery for around 10 mins. When back, nothing changed

No idea, you would be best to take it to a dealer, but it will cost you. But it will cost you a lot more if you screw it up and brick your system.

I read somewhere on Russian forum that 1969 version is corrupted. Did you try to update to 1941?

I was updating to v1969. It was working, then I got an error.

Now I am always in the engineering mode, I cannot escape it.

I can only reboot it, but it goes automatically in the engineering mode.

If I put a USB stick it does not read it anymore, or anyway, it does not give me any chance to select it and try a new update. Even if the USB stick contains the v1969 or v1941 (to answer you on the other topic)

I successfully updated from 1941 to 1969 via USB.  Very simple and probably took all of 15-20 minutes.  The screen does go completely blank on one or two occasions during the update which makes you slightly anxious but just wait and let it do its thing.  TBH, if you are running version 1941 without issue then version 1969 doesn’t really bring anything new to the table.

i shared the update file on a couple of file hosting sites - links are in the first few pages of this thread.

If they are going to sell you new unit, it is 1500 plus work. I hope they won't be lazy and will find a way to restore yours.

My dealer finally updated my Software yesterday

After getting Skoda involved directly to have this done for free, it didn't take them long at all, but as many of you mentioned previously, if going from an early version - best let them do it.

Itjumped from 1804 to 1969 and when I popped my manual map update USB back in the car on my drive home, the map had also updated!

That USB had been sat in my car for months, refusing to do anything.

I did have a bit of a to and fro with the service guy, going on about why do you want it etc.  spouting I shouldn't read too much online - all is not what you read on forums.

Turns out it is, and perhaps they should join these themselves 😉

Good to hear and your perseverance paid off.  You definitely needed to update to at least version 1941 so good you actually went to latest version.  Why the dealers are always so reluctant to do the necessary work?

What map database version are you now on.  I have had my USB inserted for a long time.  All formatted correctly and unpacked files at root level but despite seeing the USB activity light flashing, as if it’s being read, the map database never updates.

My map was stuck on 20.# - having downloaded the offline map from the skoda Portal a while ago, that never took.
I read on here that s.w. prior to 1896 would not let offline updates, so now the update has taken the map db has gone to 23.#

I just downloaded the latest map last night [ 24.# ] and put on my USB ready to go, so will see if this one updates as quickly.

I have a sandisk 128GB USB-C drive, Formatted to exFAT.
Extract all the files/folders from the dowloaded zip archive directly to the USB  [ i.e. 170 items visible when browsing on a PC ] and ensure they aren't placed in another folder.

That is good news, because mine is going in next week for the same thing - currently on 1804 and map stuck on 20.*.

Exactly what I have in terms of Sandisk 128GB USB-C drive ExFat formatted.

I download the Zip file from Skoda portal and unpack it, and I end up with 711 items (710 are folders starting with “MIB31_xxxx.URxxxxx” and one file “PACKAGE.SLIST”).  Place these at the root level of SANDisk USB-C drive.  However system does not update and sticks to the last map database I have which is 23.12.

Really can’t understand what I am doing wrong.

I've got the 64Gb version of the same drive and it was plugged for a month, including a 6 hour drive, and it did not update. Media is seen fine, so it is just the map update that is not working. I've paid for the map updates as well, but they don't download over the air either. But my software version is 1806 so if you need greater than 1896 for offline map updates, it explains why it does not work.

Hi guys,

unfortunately my infotainment has not been repaired yet.

Please I need an info. I know I was starting from v1941. Has anybody a picture, in the engineering mode of the Columbus infotainment of an Octavia iv with v1941, where it can be read the current infotainment version? I mean, not only "1941" but all the name/information.

Thanks

I don't have Columbus so can't help you I'm afraid.
