Software failure not so Superb

Featured Replies

I've just made a post in the MK2 Kodiaq forum - had my car 3 months - same problems as yourselves with the added problem of the car just randomly applying the emergency brake - even when nothing around me.

My dealership (who have been awesome - Simpsons Preston) said the current software update does not work properly - and Skoda are working on an updated version with an expected date of March 2025.

  • Hello from Latvia! I also bought a Škoda Superb L&K 2.0TSI 4x4 (delivered in May 2024). Everything was fine until October 2024 (I drove around 5000 km at that point). I got 7 warnings related to

  • My wife's Superb was updated a week ago on 2nd December and there have been no problems since. She drove 320 miles at the weekend and all was well.   She's finally starting to enjoy the car

  • I got my car back yesterday,  33 miles on, no problems.  I know that is not far, but went wrong after 10 miles when I got it . So, let's hope,  fingers crossed!

Thanks for the update

I'm due to pick up a new L&K next Saturday. Wondering if I should ask the dealer to cancel the order on the grounds the cars dont work.

If it was my money I would certainly delay it until you are sure the software is fixed (by checking here).

Not sure of your circumstances such as signing up for finance or putting a bit deposit down already, but if you can do cleanly, I would back out and advise the dealer that once you are confident in the product you may well speak to them first to 're order.

I traveled back from Germany yesterday, it was a long journey, and I had time to try out the bell-ringing assistants. On the highway, the messages can be triggered by accelerating or after releasing the gas pedal, the bell ringing occurs, so the speed change matters. After a few seconds of acceleration or deceleration, the bell ringing occurs. For example, if you start accelerating around 110, by 150-160 the bell ringing is guaranteed with an assistant error message pops up.

Between the speed range of 50-130, the ringing and messages dont come.

.

I can receive error messages from three assistants: side assist, front assist, parking and exit assist, and after each one as a "bonus", it immediately displays that the proactive passenger protection is limited. The priority order of the three assistants is 1. front, 2. side, 3. parking. If I turn one off in the assistant menu, the next one in line will be displayed the next time.

And since the parking and exit assist cannot be turned off from the assist list, it's pointless to turn off the first two, because the number of alerts won't be fewer without them, only the last assist will be displayed in the message.

(By the way, it's already pretty ridiculous that at a speed of 160, the any parking and exit from the car assist sends an error message.)

Could the bells be the speed warning! The EU in their wisdom have insisted all new cars sold after June have to have an audible warning if you exceed the speed limit.

Luckily, in the UK anyway,  you  can turn it off.  The wheel button o the right hand side of the steering wheel. Unfortunately you have to turn it off each trip

Sounds to me very much as if those bells are the speed warning, as they only come on above 130km/h.

In EU (The Netherlands at least) you can also turn them off, but like you say you need to do that each trip.

Service taking place next week Tuesday, not sure they will do the software update though. I expect just 'diagnosis'.

Now doing the battery disconnect to see if that improves things.

An update:

  • When the initial issue of the multiple 'assist system' errors took place (odometer around 900km of driving), booked an appointment with the dealership and disconnected the battery for 20 minutes
  • Battery disconnect cleared the errors and they did not return, odometer now at around 1300km.
  • One error persisted: engine management, but that cleared by itself this morning
  • Now at the dealership and what they have to say about it: "We get this a lot with new cars. A reset usually clears it and the errors do not return. As your car is new, it should come with the newest software installed; we'll have done that before handing it over to you 2 weeks ago. We can see in our records that it is not due a recall."
  • The dealership is now doing a readout to check the error logs and do a reset if needed.

So, fingers crossed that this is resolved now. What I have asked the dealership is the specific software version the car should be after the update, which I believe to be 2565

My car was on 2565 when I received it from the dealership new, 2 weeks ago, which would confirm the dealership had done the update before handing it over to me. But that also would show that the software update is not the fix for the 'assist system' errors, as my car displayed these errors despite being on the latest software.

Can anyone confirm a pre/post update version for the software they are on?

Thanks for the update,  I can't help you because when my faults appeared in July no-one knew what the problems were, I.e. software.

To update you on my car, I got the car back on the 16th, on the 19th 3 faults showed up, (much  complaining) they cleared themselves the next day and not reappeared.

I go to the car with trepidation every day but just monitoring.

Dealership now ready. I asked them whether the software version I am on, which is 2565, is the latest December 2 update, that should fix the 'assist systems' errors.

The dealership was not able to tell me for sure whether 2565 is the latest version of the software.

What the dealership could tell me was:

  • We read out the errors on the car
  • What was causing your error was a malfunction of a sensor on the back wheel, the assist systems are not malfunctioning
  • It could be that that back wheel sensor fault shows up as the assist systems error
  • Doing the 'battery disconnect' to reset works, but is is rather a 'hard' approach and may lead to more errors popping up, always better to come by the dealership
  • We've reset and tested your car and cleaned the error log
  • Your car is on the latest software. Or rather: our system does not show that your car needs a software update
  • Skoda recalls/calls in cars for software updates in batches, as doing too many updates overloads their servers/systems

So, all in it is a 'fingers crossed' situation. All has been well since I did the battery disconnect (400km driven and counting). Will see how this develops.

So

Thanks for sharing. Agree that it is a bit of a curious-to-see-what-will-happen-every-time-I-hit-Start situation.

Oh well, overall I find it a fantastic car and am loving it. We'll see what I have to say in a few months!

Merry Xmas!

I agree but I have been assured the faults are in the warning lights not in the systems,  even though a light says an "assist" is not working, it will be. In July, soon after the car had become available in the UK, no one knew if it was the lights or the systems that were at fault.

My dealer says of 14 superbs supplied 11 have these warning light faults.

A Very Happy Christmas to you as well

It seems strange that the Skoda factory took as long as they did to find a solution, if the issues were the warning lights rather than the actual assist features. It also seems strange that all the assist features were disabled.

Anyway Merry Christmas to you all, and let’s see what updates we see from Skoda in 2025.

Mine Is due to be "fixed" for the second time on 20th Jan. fingers crossed they have a solution by then.

I originally had a problem with  radio, it had to have a new part which had to be specially made at the factory.  The radio didn't work unless the infotainment was restarted/ rebooted.  It took 10 weeks to get the part.

Well radio its not the problem i think it happened like 2-3 times in 3 months. Its software like all the problems i guess

I had issues with assistant notifications (although very rarely) since I got the car in July. But one day towards the end of November, the car did not start displaying the same notifications. So I called the dealer and got an appointment in the middle of December (I live in Turkey by the way). They installed the update within a day and since then I didnt have any issues (apart from failure notifications indicating lack of visibility, which I guess is not related to the bug. It also went away quickly). After the update my software version is 2460 (didn't check it before unfortunately).
I just have one problem: after the update the driving data in the dashboard only shows the average consumption since refueling, instead of since start. I tried every related option, but I'm pretty convinced it can't be done. Anyone else having the same issue? Or am I missing something?

Thanks for your update! On the problem you are having: just to be sure you have checked the obvious: in the dashboard, you should be able to choose the range since refuel/start/long by first clicking the left/right scroll wheel (to activate the menu you want to change) and then turning that wheel until you get the data you want to display. You are saying you CAN select the data, but you CANNOT select the 'since start' data?

Short update:

- Had the car into to the dealership on December 24, they did not do the software update, but checked the error log.

- On December 25, was playing with the user settings while driving, specifically the 'automatically assign key to driver' setting. All the assist system warnings came up, with the beeps and bells. And the calibration error page stuck over the infotainment screen, which would not clear.

- Switched off the engine while waiting at a traffic light. When restarting the engine, the messages had cleared and the popup screen was gone, except an orange warning triangle on the dashboard

showing me there was something wrong with park assist.

- When restarting the car later that day, no more error messages.

- Now, 5 days and about 400km later, the error messages have not reappeared.

Yes, I can select the data, just can not change since information.
