a bit of an update, have now repaced the camshaft control valves, i dont think this was causing the issue but needed to be done some time. also new plugs, cleaned & reset the throttle body, there was no obvious crud in the body & butterfly operated smoothly. overall removed cleaned & connected all sensor plugs & fittings. Still have the same issue, car starts first time every time but immediately dies. Have been able to look at the engine controol module data in live mode, fuel pressure reads around 105 initially, then drops away to mid 90's when it dies. If I push accelerator pedal down on start up I see the pressure is around 120 then engine dies again. still have some misfires registering. Is there a fuel relay(s) or the like that I can test. Is there an easy way to test the coil packs

I don't know how helpful it is to document the steps needed to remove the trim - I didn't find it easy to follow the manual. As a taster - the first step is to remove the horizontal bar at the side of the luggage compartment that has the hooks on it. The hooks can be snapped off (probably before removing the bar, just by manipulating to the right angle) The bar is held on by two bolts which are hidden behind a strip of plastic on the face of the bar. To remove that strip of plastic - it is clipped into the bar at each end but it also clips in about 1/3 the way down which can be accessed through small rectangular apertures at bottom and at top. There may be a special tool, a bit like a caliper, that presses in each of these holes at the same time but I managed to get it off by levering with screwdrivers in the holes.

Yes I put a lot into my focus, constant coolant issues engine replacement and various other things. So I researched for reliability. The 3rd gen Octavias came up highly. As did the Toyota corolla but octavia was more in budget. Highly recommend and test drive. Just aim for full service history every year / mileage interval. And budget in a timing and aux belt change if it's not been done recently. Then keep up it's servicing.

Is it something to do with oil being too higher viscosity? Piston cooling sounds like oil jets, so maybe try a thinner oil (specifically the cold viscosity) see if that helps the cold starting error problem

There are some pictures on the Octavia MK3 forum from when I changed my left rear abs sensor. It's an easy enough job just a bit fiddly to remove the sensor and electrical connector. In the thread I also show how to diagnose a faulty sensor using Car scanner or equivalent OBD dongle to monitor the individual wheel speed sensors...

Can anyone out there tell me if a rear parking sensor can be replaced on an Octavia mk3 combi(estate) without removing the bumper ? If the lower panel can be removed with the main part of bumper still in place how exactly is it released ? Hoping to hear from someone who's actually done this as failed parking sensors are fairly common. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Bazz

Thanks @Alasdair1 for the quick reply. I checked the fuses, they all look fine. Did the voltage test too. No signs of wear and tear on them. I did an output test today with my obdeleven, I could hear the pump humming and it was vibrating when I touched and felt it. Could it be a jammed pump? I tried the loose gravel breaking again but it is still there. I found some on my the marketplace for a 50, do I try it? My only concern is the bleeding, I don't want to deal with it now, I'd rather give it to a mechanic to fit it.

It's a great choice. Coming from a focus as well with the wet belt. It's been a dream to drive even at 119k. I replaced timing belt, aux belt and gear box service a couple of weeks after picking it up. Hopefully keeps me going for a while

Good evening. Its a hatchback. I have no modified that suspension height at all its all standard. It amazes me how the suspension is soo soft as standard. Never had this issue on any car I've had hence why I thought it to be an issue with a fault somewhere. Do I also need springs aswell?

Had the same issue August 2026, ordered new button from skoda parts direct £20 (now asking £40 ?). Dealer wanted £44, so aware of problem and said they had not had to replace whole hand brake only replace button. I had read all posts, so not sure new button would work, but knew to pull control rod out to get ratchet to work. Guess what, yep failed, on a hill in the dark in slow moving traffic Sept 2026. Did not actually see button go when released the hand brake, doing multiple stop and move on, up hill. Reached down to pull brake and felt no button (dont press on pulling). I pulled the control rod out and pulled the handbrake at same time. Wife put hazards on for me and we had to let traffic pass, before trying to move off. Reported as safety issue to central skoda, clearly other manufacturers recalled on similar issue e.g VW T5. Dealer charged £115 investigation fee for known issue, plus £440 (£249 + vat for whole hand brake) to fix, two bits of plastic failing. Skoda parts, which is Skoda, £191, but dealer has to use TPS. Like other gent, needed car fixed quickly. I've raised safety issue with DVSC. All need to do this. Some customers get lucky with new button. But it's an un safe design. We found button and spring in back of car. Dealer said car was unroad worthy...so clearly unsafe. I would have gone small claims, but apparently got to go ombudsmen, they have it sawn up, apparently its dealer not manufacture if wear and tear, but it's a issue with the design in my mind. oh and I've done less that 58k...so less than original warranty distance. Rant over ....did buy gorilla glue ...should have used.

That’s interesting. I recently posted an account of my car performing a sudden emergency stop while travelling at 70mph in the centre lane of the M20. It braked hard, locked the steering, came to a full stop and turned off the engine. I hadn’t given it much thought until you mentioned it but the common factor with your incident is that I too had the drowsy/take a break message just a few minutes before my incident. I wonder if it’s related 🧐 As a result of my incident I sold the Superb as I felt we had had a lucky escape, might not be so lucky next time. Picked up my new car this morning…

Thank you for the replies. I have tried doing a factory reset 3 times without success. I have also tried removing the fuses that feed the unit and also the ones that feed the SIM/sos unit without success. I think that it is somehow linked to the account settings. I have tried deleting that account and setting up a new account on the app which appears to go through successfully and I get a welcome message. If I enter those new details in to the unit it just comes up with incorrect password even though the app says that the new password is correct. According to the screen when you delete a user account that existing user get a message to tell them that their account has been cancelled. I have never received any email saying that the account was cancelled, even though the new account that I tried setting up was with a completely different email address.

Must be sad to carry no passengers...
