Hi guys, As some of you know/remember (or maybe you don't) I sold my 2008 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI DSG some time back and since move to Germany with my 2008 Saab 9-3 convertible. Well since then it's not been plain sailing with the Saab. My Saab ownership consisted of: - Rough gear shifts- finally cured with several gearbox oil changes - One breakdown in France 40km from the Eurotunnel- Alternator and battery died - Starter motor went - Battery cable melted - Xenon bulbs had to be replaced - Swirl flaps broke and took it to someone reccomended to me who made a pigs ear of it and glued everything up resulting in massive boost leaks - Swirl flaps finally removed and sorted elsewhere - Further breakdown caused by blocked MAP sensor - Further breakdown caused by a siezed turbo- Both turbos replaced (they come complete as a set) at a cost of €1,000 - Final breakdown as the engine decided to eat itself for some reason 😞 But other than that it was a lovely car. Flew through 2 MOTs and a German TÜV. We've been to look at a car today and put a deposit down on it. Back in a Skoda! It's a 2012 Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG. The spec is a european spec called "Family" lol. Basically consists of: - Xenons - Auto lights - Auto wipers - Cruise control - 4 electric windows - Removeable factory fit towbar - Maxidot - Auto dim mirror Hopefully picking it up this week if all goes well. So, hi again guys!

I’ve drove 100’s of miles single track roads and whether it be on mainland or island I end up seeing little houses or villages in the middle of nowhere and the same though goes through my mind of how life is sustainable in such rural parts. Recently visited the Isle of Mull for a weekend, Absolutely stunning and a nature watchers dream. Walked 12 miles to find a 30 million year old fossilised tree and two waterfalls, Worth it once you get this view -

@MickA I hope you have had the chance to use the A93, or the B974 Fettercairn / Cairn o' Mount, and the A939 Lecht / Tomintoul routes, and by Grantown-on-Spey to the Moray Firth.

It would have been our third time in as many years. Just about getting the gist of it now and had planned on staying at stops longer this time. We started off by doing one nighters, not enough time spent anywhere even though it was over 18 days. Second time we stopped off for two nights at places. This year it would have been longer at places, 4 nights on Skye, 3 nights Inverary, 3 nights Aberdeen to name a few. Up the East, down the West coast 18 nights total. Us 2017....
  8. No could about it, it is dangerous and should not be on the road especially now that the details are in the public domain. Insisting (not asking) that they commit to stating their position in writing so that you may pass the letter on to your insurers should focus them somewhat.
  9. And this is the new one. I didn't plan on getting a new car as I was very happy with my white superb. But I saw a really good offer on this one and reckoned I'd enjoy the latest model even more. How right I was, I love it. L&K TSI 272 4x4, sunroof. 69 reg.
  10. finished off the Rocker cover, inlet manifold with 2.0tfsi #benchmark Coil packs, and wiring tidy, adapters for 1.8t, new plugs, and black coolant cap/washer bottle cap, I have a new battery lid and fuse holder on order to finish it off
  11. At the beginning i thought that this project would be fine with a catted downpipe and OEM cat back. Then i got that central resonator is very restrictive. It retains heat, that is not good for turbo, and apart from this it causes high backpressure. So the way to go would be a resonator delete, but you probably already know that for me it's no go. So the aftermarket resonator i found (a muffler to be precise) is bigger than stock resonator, like someone already found out, and at this point the only way to go would be create a complete custom cat back to fit in everything in the right place. So I did. In this configuration now I have 3'' Milltek catted downpipe, 5x9x15'' vibrant performance muffler used as resonator (with 3'' straight through pipe) and 2,5'' pipes to OEM back mufflers. Now backpressure and heat problems are solved, and I feel the car maybe something faster. But maybe it's only my impression, so I will dyno the car again and see. As for the sound and noise I am not disappointed at all: the sound is slightly better than before, and it’s definitely not noisy. Inside it sounds the same as with OEM resonator, cruising at low revs you can barely hear the engine. Outside I can hear the difference. Not big difference, but you can clearly hear there's something different under the hood. I have to thank Aaron from Vibrant Performance who has had the patience to explain and show me the best product for my needs. Just to know, the muffler I installed is part #1127 “Streetpower Oval Muffler”. This was the stock catback: This is the custom catback installed: Here is the Vibrant Performance #1127 that barely fitted in Complete exhaust
  12. I've changed many VAG diesel fuel filters without priming the system afterwards. As long as you're careful and ensure as much diesel fuel remains in the fuel filter housing as possible then you'll be fine. Take it slow and steady to minimise the chances of introducing air into the system. I ensure all of the fuel in the old filter is allowed to drip back into the fuel filter housing before fully removing it. Some even top the fuel filter housing up with fresh fuel after inserting the new filter. Cycling the ignition a few times used to do the same job as priming the pump using diagnostics, but the later common rail (CR) engines don't automatically prime the fuel pump on the ignition, hence the recommendation to purge the system using a diagnostic tool such as VCDS.
  13. Hi everyone. I had a horn problem : when using left turn signal the horn was engaging. More than annoying it started to smoke after some time. So ı decided to check the problem today. I also wanted to put a quick diy on how to disassemble the signal switch. The problem was basically that a smal piece of copper bent with time after makina it straight the problem was gone. On how to disassemble it : take down the screw under the stering wheel and take the bottom cover off. Then disconnect the bottom connector. Then take the flathead screw on the left or right depending on the switch. Finally take out gently the switch and disconnect the last top connector. If you need to disassemble more the switch take it out again. And you are good to go.
  14. Awesome, thanks for the advice man. This is my first fairly new car I’ve bought and I do love it to be fair. I will speak to ŠKODA tomorrow all being well.
  15. Your Golf with All season tyres would easily outperform a Karoq 4x4 on summer tyres in winter conditions. 4x4 on summer tyres in snow, just means you have the possibility of spinning 4 wheels, and when trying to stop is no advantage at all.
  16. I have a feeling that I’m going to get very familiar with the wiring on this car, I’ve already made a temporary fix to the drivers door airbag sensor issue and VCDS has also thrown up an intermittent fault with door lighting. Disappointing that they cheaped out on wiring this way. Looks like I’ll have to dig the control unit out so I can get at the plug 😫 it’s gonna be a week or so.. I’ll report back when I do get to it. Thanx

Dealerships are well recompensed for Servicing but Motability do them on Variable interval servicing now, but if under 18,000 (20,000) when at end of lease it will get serviced at the time of the MOT. Motabiliy cars are MOT'd usually at around 1 month before hand back and last year mine was done in mid September for a mid November hand back and had a Service as well. The hand back pictures were used by BCA to sell the car and Arnold Clark bought it, it went to them direct from the dealership i handed it back to without going to the auction, and it is still sitting advertised for sale but it was given another MOT in May. No advisories on the May MOT like on the September one.

I've got a book full of stuff to visit routes to take, I'll make a note to do them, so much to see.
  20. Really the fuel consumption difference is neither here nor there between FWD and AWD other than Official figures from very dodgy tests. If the cars are at the same weight they pretty much do the same economy, and if you put more people and stuff in the FWD vehicle and do the same speed as the AWD with just a driver in you might use more fuel.

I've seen quite a lot but not enough for my liking , My list of places to visit here seems to grow and grow. I’m hoping to try get to all the western isles in next few years, I’ve Visited a few but the smaller ones still deceive me, Next year I’m driving the west coast of Ireland and can’t wait, Now looking at the possibility of lapping the whole of the Irish coast.....Odd hotel here and there but I’m quite happy to throw up the tent and get a fire going.

I've attached the full history, it was a Motability car, and it's a pre-facelift, registered February 2017, so out of warranty unfortunately. The garage is run by a couple of ex VW technicians with a very good reputation locally, I just really want it checked over for my peace of mind.
  23. Rode it and stopped to look at a horse <pic deleted as it doesn't appear to be working> And generally just admire the view
  24. Not relevant to the question, but a point worth making IMHO - that's been written by someone only thinking about Haldex based systems, VAG still make some vehicles with Torsen based systems - which that comment won't apply to as they are permanent 4WD but with variable torque split. Answering that is going to need knowledge of the firmware in the Haldex controller, is there an SSP (Self Study Programme) that describes the Haldex version fitted to the Karoq? The Karoq Vehicle Presentation Part I mentions SSP 70 "All-Wheel Drive with Generation IV Haldex Clutch" although I might have expected the Karoq to have Generation V Haldex? Link to SSP 70

Had brake fluid but no air filter? That's odd. Unless the filter was done previously.
  26. well, It's been over a year since I asked about this and I should have got back to say that the issue was finally resolved. It took a fair bit of arguing with Skoda, but in the end they did the right thing. Thanks to Citygate Skoda in Watford. The root cause of the issue was the main engine management unit. It had some sort of intermittent fault which was why it was so hard to nail down. One thing, getting their AA service person to come out to investigate the issue during one of the investigation cycles was not a great help when all he did was to clear all the engine fault codes and thus remove the evidence and that meant more time having to drive a dangerous car! Anyway, if this issue happens to anyone else, perhaps you can suggest that they replace the engine management system to see if it helps.
  27. I hope you can read Chinese if you do that. Ask me how I know 🙁

No debate on a DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG, there is no service schedule or guidelines for maintenance. (if someone wanted to change either or both of the oils then that is up to them, but why would you at 3 years / 58,000 miles?) @broona What servicing has it had like the Air Filter checked or replaced at the last service, and have the spark plugs been replaced. The Brake Fluid can get checked for H20 content, or just get replaced. Have you cleaned or replaced the Pollen filter & that area, or was that done at 2 years.

Timing belt seems a bit early but miles is high for 3 year old so take advice on that perhaps. Lots of debate on DSG oil changes. Presume 7 speed? If 6 speed then every 40k. Full diagnostic check. Battery removal will have left a load of gremlins in the dtc memory that will certainly be good to be cleared out. Coding battery is tops 10mins with VCDS or diagnostic tool. Discs and pads perhaps. Brake fluid change due at three years from new then every two after that (recommended)

Aircon service, if it’s never had one, is what I’d get done. Timing belts have been subject to much debate, but it doesn’t need doing until the car is 5 years old at the soonest. The water pump is on the opposite end of the head to the timing belt and has its own separate drive belt. It will be interesting what your specialist’s view is of what needs doing. I think if you’re taking it in and trusting them, whatever they say goes.
  32. Have pm’d you mate... Tbf if it’s mapped properly you shouldn’t get any problems with the engine or drivetrain that you will need warrantee for. There is always the small chance a component fails (that’s not map related) just vw quality control. And in that case it will void warrantee because the car is mapped. Even tho it’s not the map that caused it.. remember though the cars that the staff at RL drive are still on finance and within warrantee but have had maps developed on them and still not failed. Including the 400+ bhp golf estate of bens that he commutes to MK in and uses as his daily
  33. As usual things get in the road of doing jobs on the car....I finally ordered a button the week before COVID lockdown so by the time I went to collect it the dealer had shut the door...! Anyway, got the button recently and set about swapping it over. Apparently the part number had changed so the part number is 6VO 905 217 for the button I received. Pretty simple to change as other folk have said but I thought I would post up a few pics which might help others as there are a couple of other actions to consider. Popping the top trim is simple, use trim tools if you have them, and this gives access to the two screws either side of the column for the bottom trim. You will need a T20 bit for these. I was expecting the bottom trim to drop down at this stage with the understanding there were only two screws but it turns out there is a further screw right underneath. Bit of a pain to get to but it comes away no problem. I still wrestled with the bottom trim until I popped the steering column adjustment lever down and it all dropped down. Full access now available so I very carefully released but connectors to the button and reader coil. A very narrow flatblade screwdriver helps release the connectors. Study the new button and you will see where you gently release the clips on the side of the existing button, a little jiggling around and it will slide out through the reader. New button just clips back in, refit the connectors and rebuild. The screw on the underside was tricky to get back in, my driver wasn't magnetic so I used blu-tak to hold the screw on 🙂 Anyway, worked fine and the difference is night and day when pushing the button. I have kept the old button as I believe some folk have cleaned them with contact cleaner so might give that a go to have a spare available. Hope that is of interest.... A saving of approx £80 on dealer charges....! New button highlighted red.

KIA Stinger GTS and diesel Audi S4 owners look away now. 10 commutes in 12 days petrol 1,627kg petrol 360bhp.
  35. I'm assuming that your central screen has a "car" button as well as media, radio, etc., isn't there a display / page with performance gauges? If so, then you can have the oil temperature, turbo boost, power output displayed there, leaving the smaller display to show the digital speedo.
  36. On my tune torque start climbing earlier then stock for sure , but not as kicky as my old 1.9TDI octavia , where 245 wheels did polish tarmac even at dry (but I had to change clutch to singlemass after few thousand KM ) I am waiting maybe beginning of the July to go to my tuner and do dyno test and final tune of the mapping. I will be able to present graphs probably from dyno run. Its me who did not put sentence correctly
  37. Remove the 2 side trims, the one on one side has the rear window dimister switch in it, then carefully prize the facia off.
  38. I have all FLAC, but cards formatted to NTFS. But this shouldn`t matter, exfat is supported by manual. I tend to beieve you have to create some folder architecture to memory card (if you haven`t done it yet). There were some limitations about the number of folders and tracks. Silver, MP4 is a video file container.
  39. First pics of my new car, collected yesterday. Love it! 🙂
  40. I've just purchased a pre-reg 20 plate Karoq Sportline 2.0 TSI 190 4x4 DSG. I've part ex'd my Superb Sportline 280 4x4 DSG after owning a couple of years (great car, but had to do sell as the lower down seating position hurts my back). Before the Superb, I owned a Yeti 170 TDI 4x4 manual (I remapped for fuel economy so was probably more like 200bhp) for over 100K miles , which was as yet, the best car I've owned. I am looking forward to getting the Karoq and seeing how the 190 TSI and DSG work for me.. The Yeti was great fun to drive - the Superb less so (it felt it's size!), so fingers crossed this gives an entertaining drive. Picking it up next week..

when for a long drive the first time in a long time had a few pic as well😎
  42. Thank goodness, a mpg below 20. That’s more like it. 😜
  43. The hardest part is splitting the headlights. The are permasealed so the old oven trick doesn't work too well, most people seem to cut them open which is the biggest reason I've not tried to open mine. There are plenty on drive2 that have split them to repaint etc. I'm pretty sure the EvoX-R and any other E55 projector should just drop in although you may need to trim the bracket to clear the shutter motor if using bi-xenons. Never heard about AFS motor failures, as long as you're careful I'd expect them to be fine. Finally, if you want to add the bi-xenon functionally, you'll need to run two new wires from the headlights to the BCM. The vRS uses the shutter pins to control the LED DRL so you'll need to move some pins and possibly replace the BCM. You'll also need VCP or ODIS-e to change the lighting configuration too
  44. I do like the matt plasti-dip effect you've got, and it's what I would have done had I not found SuperSkoda were doing a discount period across their stock (which they occasionally do - worth looking out for). For comparison, this is what the Monte Carlo black (metallic flecked) version looks like on Moon White (not a great photo though, apologies).
  45. Yep, a windows sysmbol beside some writing like a Chinese sick note My old unit spent most of its time displaying those, the new one never. Here is some advice regarding living with your unit. Switch off the auto-start navi function and any other things that auto-start. Use just one function at a time, radio, CD etc. switch them off before using the Shatnav, easier said than done, my biggets gripe was the radio booming out every time I turned the ignition on, I had to leave it set to an unused input like the TV. Switch on the satnav only when you want to use it, dont listen to the radio or music at the same time, accept that parking sensors (if they display) door open display or reversing camera if fitted will likely cause the system to crash. The multi-tasking is not such a problem if the Shatnav is not used and reversing etc with the radio on is less likely to cause a crash, the virtual CD player will rarely play more than a few tracks without crashing, its better to copy them onto the memory card than onto the units memory. The satnav may refuse to loadn buying a new one on a memory card for less than a tenner from China will get it working again, had to do that twice on the old unit, the A-sure to date seems OK. If you ever do a VCDS scan expect fault code city as a result of fitting one of these radios.
  46. Sounds like the unit was already installed when you bought the car, regarding the radio its very easy to break the special connector so check that first. I also had radio reception problems on this one, I cant recall what I did but it was something either in the radio set up or the unit programming which resolved it, prior to that it seemed like a duff aerial.
  47. I have that one, are you sure its Android because mine is WinCE. My previous one another chonky make would crash all the time like yours, it just could not multitask yet the A-sure one which was a bargain at £80 is completely stable. It has a couple of niggles that I cant resolve like the door handing, that I programmed out on the other unit but cant find an option to do it on the A-sure, there is a further factory programming menu only accessible by the factory code (try 3368) where the function should be found but they are all in incomprehensible Chinglish and none I tried would change it. Instead of being able to choose between 4 backlight colours for the buttons mine only has Blue and White, the latter just being a dimmer Blue. Not even tried the Bluetooth on this one, the last one drove me mad because it wanted me to repair the phone every time I switched on the ignition. I hit lucky this time, all the functions I want to use, radio, CD, CD's copied to the memory card, Satnav, reversing camera etc all work and will work together without it crashing, for the money its more than I expected, my expectations were revised to reality after the experience with the first unit, a Tingtonglinglong something or other.

Maybe if people flexed their right ankles a bit more. My Golf's now on 94K miles, not a lot for a 12 year old car. The only exhaust issue I've had in all that time was a failed pressure sensor. Other than that, it's never so much as thrown a check engine light. There was also an 18 month period when I did little more with it than bimble it round the village; so it's not entirely due to having been driven hard for most of its life

Glad to hear you enjoy our beautiful country as much as I do. We traced our family roots back to Applecross and my family ran a fishing trawler there after moving from Harris due to hard times, My great great grandmothers sewing machine is exhibited in the Applecross museum. Lochgilphead is lovely, I can be there in about an hour and forty five minutes from where I live and I have friends who stay in the neighbouring little fishing town of Tarbet. I completed the whole coastal route of Scotland last year, Cant keep me away from the scenery.
