  1. Hello Fellow Briskodians hope you are all well! For those that don't know I had a little Suzuki Swift Sport as my Daily for the past 7 Months and before the Swift I had a MK1 Fabia VRS TDI for 3 Years which was a cracking Car, As time has gone on with the Swift I have never really got on with the 1.6 Revvy N/A Motor and have missed that effortless Driving Style that a Turbo Diesel offers. I have looked for something to replace the Swift with on and off for a few Months but was not 100% Sure what I really wanted, I have owned 2 x MK6 Golf R's in the past and really liked the MK6 Golf as a Car so began looking at the Market. As you can imagine there are a lot of MK6 Golf TDI's about however finding an example that would tick all my boxes proved a little difficult. I wanted... 2011/2012 Reg 2.0 TDI with the CR140 Engine 5 Doors Manual Gearbox Less than 80K Miles Full Service History (Not longlife) Well Looked after Cosmetically Grey or Red Colour With a few Toys fitted if possible I didn't want a GTD as I am going to be getting a Second Car as a Toy so my Daily doesn't really need to be anything too special but I still wanted a nice Car and didn't want a shed. I decided on either Match or GT Spec and depending on what came up first I would go for. I viewed 2 x Cars a couple of Weeks ago and neither were up-to my standards so I walked away. Then I spotted what looked like a nice example on Autotrader at a Small Independent Dealership in Tamworth, I sent a few Emails and asked all my usual questions and decided that it worth going to view so I had a Drive down in the Swift. First impressions were spot on, The Golf was well presented and had clearly been well looked after, I went for a little Test Drive and when I got back to the Dealer we discussed some figures and I did a Deal. The Golf was up at strong Money but I did feel it was worth it based on its Condition, Low Mileage, Full Service History & Spec. They took a real interest in the Suzuki too and made me such a good offer I ended up trading the Swift Sport in and basically it was a straight swap! Happy Days. The Car... MK6 Golf TDI in Match Spec 2.0 CR 140BHP Engine 2011/61 Plate 1 Previous Owner 50600 Miles Full Service History, 9 Stamps in the Book done every 12 Months Manual Gearbox United/Steel Grey The Car is also pretty well specced and has Full Leather with Heated Fronts, Cruise Control, RCD 510 DAB Head Unit with Bluetooth, Dual Zone Climate Control, Front & Rear Parking Sensors, Front Fogs, Folding Mirrors, Genuine Mudflaps, Genuine Boot Liner, 2 x Sets of Genuine Floor Mats Carpet & Rubber. The Dealership also put a fresh MOT on the Golf and also had an Oil & Filter Service Carried out with a Brake Fluid change too. I collected the Golf Yesterday Morning and drove it back to Sheffield from Tamworth, Within 10 Miles I instantly knew I had made the right decision and the Golf will be absolutely perfect for my needs as a Daily. I have cracked on an given the Golf its first Detail, Spent 3 Hours on it Yesterday after the Car had cooled Down and another 6 Hours Today so around 9 Hours in Total. Happy with how the Car has come out to be honest, Its not a Show Car but for a 9 Year old Golf its not bad. Still have a few Jobs left to do including Brake Caliper Paint, Replace the Centre Caps & Wheel Nut Covers on the Alloys as they are discoloured but that can wait until Next Week. What I did... Yesterday... I glanced into the Wheel Arches and could see a fair amount of Mud in there just from general use but obviously not an area that has seen much attention from the previous Owner so firstly I... : Place Car on Axle Stands, All 4 x Wheels Removed, Wheel Arches Fully Deep Cleaned using pressure Washer and various Brushes, Then APC and Rinsed again. : Alloys thoroughly Cleaned using Bilberry and then Washed by Hand using Microfibre Mitt. : Refitted Wheels : Tyres Dressed using Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care, Wiped with Microfibre. 2. Rock up and in no time you are ready to roll again. This is the Bon Scott statue.
  3. 88th Win for Lewis in his 256th race in F1 now just 3 race wins from matching the all-time record of Michael's 91 total.

Back in Jan 2015 when I bought my Rallye Green Vrs TDi the wife nicknamed it Kermit so I bought her a Rapid Sport SE with the Pano Roof in Kermit Green in April 2015. We had a lot of Green in the drive for a couple of months.
  5. I fully intend getting towards the 20,000 miles a year i can do with this car. Get places more often that i used to go to regularly when the cost of fuel seemed to not matter, So Free electricity for now, but a better charging infrastructure is needed. I have done a trip 3 times this week of 150 mies that sometimes i do twice a week & in my diesel @ 25mpg costs £30 a time for 150 miles. PS What you save in Petrol or Diesel gets you a Hotel room, even B&B's and you can charge there overnight maybe or get free charging from ChargePlace Scotland.
  6. Probably faulty GPS antenna.
  7. You can’t beat a good old ‘scort, out in force at Snett. Couple of shots below.
  8. To put it into numbers. If you take the required HP to power an A/C compressor as 3hp minimum (can be more). A 12v DC motor would require upwards of 150 amps! I believe the power steering has a 50 amp fuse so uses under 50 amps.
  9. No. An A/C compressor requires far more power and amps to run than a standard 12v system can output. The power steering doesn't have a pump. It's an all electric system where a motor drives the steering rack directly. Mercedes have done a system where everything is electrically powered (power steering, A/C, water pump and an electric super charger). But this uses a 48 volt system.
  10. Tar melting weather in the Cairngorms north of Glenshee. Drizzle and clouds on the top and to the south.
  11. What some say is. They are 80% worn and we advise replacing the discs and pads. Also an engine flush and a fuel injection treatment, and heavy air in the tyres and a enema without lubrication. 'Assume the position & brace yourself'.
  12. So after recently remapping my vRS tdi I was still longing for more so I bit the bullet and bought a 69 plate vRS 245 challenge and wow what a car. Anyone who is in a similar predicament, I say do it, bite the bullet and buy one! I had a 4hr drive from the dealership I purchased it from and achieved an average of 39.5 mpg (without trying and without checking it the whole journey) at decent motorway speeds in normal and comfort mode. So knowing I can get nearly 40mpg on a run without trying, suits me to the ground. Of course around town its awful especially with a lead right foot. Things I love about the car: - The power - anyone who says a remapped tdi is as quick as a petrol is completely lying, maybe a stage 2 diesel with a bigger turbo, but even then it’d be close - Pan roof - never had one before and it is lovely - Heated front/ rear and steering wheel - Virtual cockpit, easily the best bit about the car never realised how powerful it could be - Rear USB ports, essential if you have kids! Things I dislike: - The entertainment system can sometimes be slow (old car was the same) and the reversing camera sometimes stays on for a while after driving off - The fact the drive mode selector always defaults back to ‘normal’, this is annoying. My old 2018 diesel remembered my driving mode Anyway... got a lot of love for the vRS tdi (i have owned 2 of them), but for now the 245 is ticking all of the boxes! The most annoying part of all of this however... is Hatch Bag do not do a boot liner for the Octavia Hatch with canton and I can’t find a company who do as nice Custom fitting boot liners which is a real ****er! - Matt
  13. From 2016 to 2018 I had two 1.2TSi DSG's My wife loved hers but I just found the seats lacked support (No lumbar adjustment) and the 1.2TSi while great around town proved a little underpowered and uneconomical on my part motorway commute. I replaced it with a MQB Octavia but t became a reliability night mare with numerous issues mainly DQ200 DSG related. So I've put a refundable deposit down on a 2017 Yeti, 2.0TDi 150 4x4 L&K with just 18k miles. All dependent on test drive tomorrow. And yes I know about possible roof issues. Only one thing, it does not have smartlink enabled. Anyone know how much the activation key is now? Will try and get the dealer to do me a deal on smartlink but having info on the cost would give me some levarage. Also am I right in thinking Haldex oil change is now three years so needs doing? Lee
  14. I’ve owned my Superb Estate (called BOF) for 16 months now, and have put together a YouTube review of what I really think of the car after owning it/using it over that period. if you’re interested then please feel free to click the link below. It’s not a monetised channel, it’s just something I do for a bit of fun..
  15. Last night, my wife went out to her June 2018 Karoq SE to get something. Opened and locked the car using the door handle. Key in pocket. About an hour later she was going out and the fob would't open the car door. First thought, dead battery. The spare opened it just fine, but me being me, thought I'd switch batteries in the fobs to check if it was a fob issue. Wife had no in car warnings about a battery problem in the fob. By switching batteries I found that both batteries were fine and worked in the spare fob, but neither battery worked in the main fob. So, looks like fob failure. Fortunately this happened at home. I'm assuming it can be fixed under warranty. It left me considering a scenario where the same thing happened miles from home. My wife returns to a locked car and nothing happens with the fob. Using the fob key she knows how to clip off the little cover to reveal the keyhole, (surmising here). Surely the alarm would go off? Then what? Both she and I would have been clueless about holding the key against/ close to the start button to see if the car would start. If not call the helpline I presume. Anyway, as I said fortunately this happened at home and in daylight, but it has certainly dented my wife's confidence in keyless entry. Mine too tbh. Ash
  16. My wife’s rubber ones are wearing thin after 9 years, banana.
  17. I think the smartlink activation is in the region of £150.
  18. So, you have moved away from the darkside to the light. Feel the force of the petrol VRS. Glad to say the driving mode in my VRS 230 stays where I leave it.
  19. What is important is power at points across the useable rev range rather than torque. A plot of how much horsepower is available at 20%, 30% thru to 100% of the useable revs what is the area beneath the curve for the gear change points between each gear. VW seem to have got something quite weak with the 1.5 TSI evo, a turbo petrol should generally be about 5% quicker than a diesel with the same HP due to less weight of the vehicle and less inertial mass of the engine components which have to be spun up to speed. 1.5 TSI evo seems a bit of a weak offering in the VW stable and is surpassed by engines like the Renault/Mercedes 1.3 TCE which produces more power ie over 160 hp and as much torque but is better on fuel. @shyVRS245 Here is an engine with 7 M nm of torque and over 100,000 hp, it does 20 mph in the vehicle it is fitted in to. It is power/weight and many other factors that count to fast acceleration. Built in Finland, the RT-flex96C's fourteen cylinders can generate 107,389HP with more than 7,000,000Nm of torque — that's enough to power an entire suburban town. The engine weighs 2,300 tons and stands 44-feet tall and 90-feet long – more than a four-story building.
  20. The safety word's 'banana' Allegedly
  21. That happens to me George, you find a smashing spot to park with a breathtaking view, and some girt great blooming lump of rock comes up and parks right next to you 🙄 Gaz
  22. Mercedes appeared to have the tyres under control this week. Red Bull appeared to be struggling. What a difference a week makes. Vettel stormed to seventh place and only a lap down.
  23. LeClerc DNF on lap 41 pretty boring race as usual at Barcelona with easy win for Lewis and a record 156th podium finish for him overtaking Schumacher long standing record. Max the closest rival again. Bottas with a free 3rd stop bags the extra point for fastest lap and 3rd place. Rude not to mention Racing Point finally bring home some good points for 4th and 5th converting their good qualifying pace at last.
  24. The TDI-190 engine is harder to find and from reading the Skoda Media Room outlets info, it seems that Skoda struggled to make the TDI190 engine Euro 6b compliant, so it got canned. Ive owned a 150 and a two lots of 190 engine beasts. The 190 is a far better engine - and if you can find a manual - offers the same MPG as the 150 engine (depends on your right foot). The TDI150 engine can seem unrefined; the latest generation of the TDI150 - is better (they revised the pistons to make it a lot more revvy and more spirited); but like most diesels (unless you have a VRS-TDI190), they are not that keen to rev. If get-up-and-go is really your thing, I would go and look at a 2.0TSI petrol engined beast instead.
  25. Both the distributor dirty cap as the short lived coil are not normal. I can't say more unless I have the car in front of me for a thorough diagnose.
  26. I ordered 2x 1L Comma DOT4 in the end, mid-range in price. Halford sells the same thing in case I need more. We'll only do the 2 DOT 4 cars, DOT 3 LEAF the fluid looks clear, it's only been 2 years since last change, I'll do it next year and use DOT 3 as required to be safe. Thanks everyone.

Good point. Have read about the DSG being hesitant at low speeds or not giving quick downchanges? True or road tester nonsense? I'd like to try the both but not easy to go for test drives with social distancing measures in place at the moment.
  28. Remember to compare same level of equipment, not the rock bottom poverty spec tiny engine against well equipped and quick electric versions. Why does it matter for standard 7kW speed? It's not like you need to stand like a dummy, squeezing the trigger and smelling fumes. The question only matters if you intend to use the battery to flat everyday. If you drive 100 miles a day, the better question is how long does it take to recharge 100 miles. Answer is just over 3.5 hours at home while you sleep or at work while you do something productive (100 miles, 4 mi/kWh => 25 kWh; 7kW charging speed => 3.5 hours) Battery will outlast the car around it. My Nissan Leaf is 6 years old this year. Unlike what Clarkson said, its battery is still very healthy and giving me more than enough range.
  29. I had an Airtec cone air filter which replaced the OEM airbox/air filter on my 336bhp Octavia Vrs245 and it sounded great and the best (fitted cost) £300 I spent on the car.
  30. George you seem to be on a promotional Tour of Scotland. I hope the Scottish Tourist Board are paying for the electric if not free accommodation. Should have mentioned earlier the Corsa looks sharp in that Silver colour.
  31. Hi, If it's possible for an Ateca then I'd imagine it's possible on a Karoq through adaptions / long coding but you will need the pro version. Most of the tweaks I've been doing have been through this method rather than "apps". I found the list of apps a bit limited and you have to use a credit for each app (even in pro) but anything that can be done in an app can be done through coding if you can find the right guide! If you are going to be making a lot of changes its probably worth getting the pro version.
  32. Perhaps @pab567 can help with this. Hopefully he will see this and respond to your query.

Battleship (steel) grey sounds like a great colour! Any pics? Hopefully I get the same positive compliments as you did! 'acquired taste' green 🤣 I like that.. Race blue was what I wanted for my current car but buying second hand one wasn't available. Like the red I ended up with though. Can't wait for new car day now though. The auto is just so different, in a good way, I can't wait! My wife has point blank refused to drive my new car (bad experience in an auto). However she only drove my current car twice in 4 years and that was off the drive and down a small hill so I'm not too worried 🤣 Phil, go for the DSG! For the 10%, that's were the tiptronic (flappy paddles) come in! You control the gear changes for your little bit of fun!
  34. Had mine for just over a year now. Done just under 4000 miles and being as there are no motorways or even duel carriageways around here, most of those miles at `lower` speeds I've read about this `Kangerooing` business but never experienced it myself. I've found the engine to be fabulous...it pulls really well even in `ECO` mode. Once or twice I've even wondered if, at the factory, they've put in a bigger engine by mistake! I'm looking to `downsize` for my next car and if I could find one with this engine I'd go for it without a second thought. `Go figure`, as they say!
  35. Alonso 26th in first Qualifying. Chevrolet's slow across the board. Yesterday he could've done with a Honda😀 who took 8 of the top 9 grid slots... Oh... but they told him to go f##k himself, and refused to let any of their teams give him a drive😂
  36. Your logic is flawed, it doesn’t make either car better than the other, based on the information you’ve posted, it tells me your mate couldn’t afford the Merc. On occasions when you post it’s better to say something kind or not bother posting at all. In this thread you’ve told Martin his new BMW is crap and bragged about your Superb being a better car than his next choice. If that’s your style, fine, most people can see through it and will ignore it, though you would come across better if you avoided the “my dad is better than your dad” playground mentality and post a kinder more thoughtful comment. Martin, I’d love to see the polestar when it rocks up, we’ll have to arrange a hook up, no pun intended!!
  37. Agree will keep my Superb 272 with standard exhaust because after spending around £1,800 on my Vrs245 to improve the sound the best noise came from the Airtec cone air filter with the sucking whooshes which even my wife liked and she is hard to please......sometimes.
  38. I can't decide if it is a fuel issue or an ignition issue. Both could produce the same symptoms under load. I am more inclined towards a fuel starvation issue. You need to check the fuel pressure under load then injectors. Use VAG-COM.
  39. It’s only when you drive a better class of car you look further than the numbers and appreciate it for what it is. Great choice Martin, Was half tempted with an iPace but it looked odd. Polestars look fantastic, I think I might actually be a little envious Lol
  40. Let us know what you find 🙂
  41. Brown always negative. Suspect grey/white is live. Get a multimeter to confirm.
  42. Ended up driving 3 miles around the private estate perimeter road tonight before I left work to get this moment for you guys.

Finally got around to fixing this, I bought the later type front mud guards and used a 3M sticky pad. You can see the difference between the old and new type mud guard.

Looks great In Rallye Green (had a 64 plate Vrs TDi hatch also DSG in this colour back in 2015) and suits the Xtreme wheels and a credit to the first owner who clearly cherished it. Top buy and good luck with the new baby and welcome back to Brisky.

I think you are right. Just the 19" rims fooling me. Paintwork does look very good though.

I like that colour, not seen it on our Australian roads. Has it been lowered? And congratulations to you both on your recent addition.
  47. If you want to do some handling mods try a rear sway bar, front strut brace, front offset poly bushes. These can all be done pretty cheaply. You could also go lowering springs but that's mostly for looks. Oh and decent tyres go without saying... If your budget is tight try Falken Fk510s, if not Michelin PS4S are the bomb
  48. From what I've seen, those i3 REx will be first to retire due to uneconomical to repair the gaskets on those ICE. https://www.speakev.com/threads/for-the-love-of-god-do-not-run-an-i3-without-a-warranty.101153/#post-1819745 EV hardware update? As long as the range still suits individual needs, it doesn't really need any hardware updates. This is the mentality I have with my first-gen Leaf. Its range is more than enough for wife. 5-10 years down the line, as long as wife's driving needs doesn't change, the outdated powertrain will still be an excellent car....... as long as rest of the car holds up.
