My cat doesn't know how to upload photos!
  2. Let me introduce you to my project, hopefully you find it interesting. It's a ex Leicestershire Police MK1 VRS, 160k miles and a total shed! (Don't be fooled by the photos of the outside, they make it look much better then it is). I've been looking on and off for the last 10 years for one of these, from the time the early ones first started to be retired from service. My plan was always to preserve one in its original police spec, and that's what I hope to do with this. My plans are to get this back to a decent useable car first, while researching it's police history. I'd like to be able to use it without fear of catching the plague from its disgusting interior. I need to strip this out to dry it out as it's got the usual soggy footwell. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date but it will be a slow process as I don't get much free time to work on the car. Anyway, enough waffle, here's a few pics of the car in service and also what it looks like now. If anyone happens to have any pics of the car either in service or when it was retired or knows the car and can share any history on it that would be appreciated. Credit for the in service photos goes to their owners on Flickr and Facebook

You've got to have a laugh nowadays, otherwise we're all going to go (ok too late in shyVRS245's case) completely mad. 🥸🤡

  5. Great news! I had a call from sales manager this morning. He was very polite and apologized several times for all the troubles. He said they will collect the car, repair everything and provide me with a temporary car in the meanwhile. I am going to inspect the car more thoroughly after work and take pictures of any other damage or imperfections. But I also understand it is used car, so some things are be expected. I will update you once the work has been done. Thanks to everyone for their help and advise.
  6. Was about to make the same points. Reading this thread has had me losing sleep over the past 6 weeks or so and I feel for those guys who have had these ongoing issues. But I would say the picture is becoming clearer in terms of linking software issues to certain hardware modules and there doesn’t appear to be many owners of later produced cars contributing here, which gives me hope that launch issues are being addressed for later production runs. (Doesn’t help the guys who already have their cars though). Other things such as no buttons on the infotainment screen are developments in tech similar to many car manufacturers. You will know if you want that or not before considering the Mk4. But there are still car producers who have buttons on the dash, should it be a deal breaker. After considering everything, I still placed my order back end of January, having been in a similar situation when I got my Mk3 vRS years ago, back then is was the MIB 1 to MIB 2 Amundsen debate, the later produced cars (and mine) gave me two great years of motoring before the car reached the end of its leased time with me. I took a leap of faith then as I have now to a degree. But for those placing orders now, I’d say there are known issues which are being worked on otherwise people getting there cars in the last week or so would be contributing too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  8. Either something has changed, or the salesman did a lousy job at looking up estimated lead times, if she/he estimated 3-4 months, but factory was indicating 26 weeks (6 months) Perhaps ask the Dealer Principal to forward the lead time (which I think someone in past said is a weekly email) covering period when you placed your order. It will either show delivery was 3-4 months (but has since slipped), or salesperson told you porky pies re timescale (in which case ask for some compensation, price cut or something decent added on, and suggest if they want to recover it from salesman’s bonus, that’s between them and salesman

If you want to revive the mouse try installing new batteries 😉
  11. As above. That's Hill Hold not Auto Hold. VAG only enable auto hold on vehicles with electric parking brake. It's part of the safety set, it autohold gets cancelled during it's operation (Seat belt removed, drivers door opens, time etc) then the electric parking brake is applied. That's why you don't see auto hold on the Yeti.
  12. The MOT can be done anywhere. I used our local Council facility, and they cost just £40. If it were me, I'd get the oil&filter, and the brake fluid done by a vat garage, and then do the rest myself. Air and pollen filters have to be easy enough to fit youself, save a fortune. Same too with the plugs.
  13. Think it may be time for a “things I love about my Mk4” just in the interests of balance. 😊
  14. Welcome. ? Will you not have the 'Good Condition' payment of £600 coming to you when your current car goes back to help with an Advance Payment of £599 for a Seat Ateca or £695 for a Skoda Karoq DSG? A SEAT Arona DSG is on NIL Advance Payment this month and i find the seat height of those suited me as well as a Karoq / Ateca for easy in and out, only less room when in, but the sill height / width was more suitable for me than the bigger cars and the floor space and pedals were good. I use my left foot on the accelerator pedal in the factory position and keep my artificial foot next to the sill. The Hyndai Kona Hybrid is £499 Advance Payment.

  16. Fortunately able to answer my own question The emission control warning light went off after about 15-20 mins of driving in my case.

Thank you for your kind words fellow Chuckle Brother. I haven’t laughed so much since you ran over that bag of tissues.
  18. Skoda UK have checked the order - all looks OK they said it probably won't get a build week until April as there was a 25 week lead time when it was ordered so they said it will be around June when it should be delivered! Order form is obviously incorrect........now I have 3 months without a car haha! Oh well will save some money I guess!
  19. Good. I hope a new seat belt is going to be fitted. The least that should be expected with that. Proper bodywork repairs to the Factory Standard or actually better than a Skoda Factory Standard. This is for the Corrosion Warranty & Body Inspections as Skoda tell people they should have done when they knock back Warranty Claims. It is a Used Car. But it is a 'Skoda Approved Used Car' that has supposedly had Rigorous Workshop checks, and you pay a premium for. I hope the car has been serviced to the Manufacturers Recommendations / Guidelines. So the Brake Fluid changed at 3 years, and the other service items that are part of an 'Extended Scope' Service @ 3 years.
  20. I doubt a small bottle Jack will be any more stable... I'd only use either for an emergency tyre replacement. Even then, ideally on flat, solid ground whilst being suitably wary the car could move. The one time I had to use the widow maker on my MK2 Octavia, it worked perfectly and I survived 🥳

I wonder if anyone on the forum knows what type of vermin an unopened sachet of Burger King mayonnaise would attract? I'm pretty sure there is at least one of them tucked down the side of my front passenger seat.
  22. The part that has arrived is the smaller, I believe 8inch screen. From reading the 9.2 required the MIB3 dvd drive.
  23. You can buy a guide stud on eBay or similar. Makes it much easier to change the wheel. Take first bolt out near top and screw stud in finger tight. This then supports the wheel until all the other bolts are out safely. Slide wheel off stud and replace new wheel in reverse. Only £6 or so and makes it so much quicker and safer.

This is why most women need a husband to sort out the little technical issues they encounter from day to day.
  25. I'd take it back, you want a low-smoke torque limited map, not a balls out smokey jobbie, if you complain loudly enough they should change it for nowt.
  26. Hill Hold Control / Hill Hold assist holds a car for a few seconds between the foot going from the brake pedal to the accelerator. 'Auto Hold' when enabled by pushing the brake pedal hard enough then take your foot off the brake & holds the vehicle by applying the brakes until you touch the brake or the accelerator even if Stop / Start has stopped the engine. Or you can move the steering wheel a bit. 'Auto hold' is different from a E-brake or manual Parking / Hand brake which just applies the rear brakes. If the car moves while the 'Autohold' is functioning the brakes get applied with more force.
  27. Hopefuly your accurate Google review and this thread will prompt the dealer to do the decent thing and get the issues resolved asap. I would expect them to follow up with a suitable goodwill gesture. IMHO they have exploited the situation Covid brings about. They knew full well what condition the car was in, and have taken advantage of the online sale. Sharp practice that makes me angry. We all know that if you were to part ex that car, or if it were being returned at the end of a PCP agreement, the car would be inspected to British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) standards. That inspection would have found those defects.
  28. That's not my experience, none of the PDF documents I have downloaded from erWin are locked in any way and are openable using all the PDF readers I have tried.
  29. The infotainment is being improved all the time, so don't be too worried. I don't hate the screen buttons either. The volume control would be annoying if it was only the central bar, but it's also a thumb wheel on the steering wheel. Lane assist is now pretty unobtrustive. The problem with all the tech is assessing it in a test drive. I imagine it would give you brain overload. The car websites and mag barely try in their reviews, in the main. Hard to know how to assess this stuff without living with it, but the good thing is that the software can be updated.
  30. Depends how closely the LEDs simulate the electrical characteristics of an standard bulb...
  31. I have the Eibachs on mine, E10-79-012-04-22 is the correct kit number (not part number) for the 280/272 hatch and they work great. You can see how much they drop and lots of other info in the Eibach thread in my signature. Mind you, there was a mistake with mine in the beginning and softer rear springs were used due to an error in an older Eibach catalog, this was later discovered and fixed with the correct rear springs I write all about it in that thread (not a huge difference anyway). No idea why H&R do not show any items suitable for the sedan/hatch but I wouldn't worry about it tbh.
  32. A simple scanner will do just fine. Just don't clear the faults; because the dealers use them to read the fault codes. Post the fault code numbers on here and we'll try and assist.
  33. DSG and Autohold is a match made in heaven. It's the only think I think the Yeti lacks. I've had it in previous cars and would choose it any day over gimmicks like self parking.
  34. When in sport mode it won't change gear until it's at or near the red line. Not good when the engine is cold.
  35. (this posting is goading poor MK4 Octy owners - so sorry in advance) You can always trade in your nice new MK4 for a equalily lovely MK3 FL model. All the same build quality, but none of the annoyance....things just....work :-)
  36. if u've got curtain airbags - do NOT run/tuck the cable between the roof liner and rubber seal as it will foul the airbags deploying properly in the event of a side impact. run the cable down along the door sill, under the plastic trim, and then back up the C-Pillar to go into the boot, and up to the boot lid. with the A-pillar, remove the trim and run the wire behind the airbag, along the existing wiring bundle.
  37. I dont think there are any adjustments to be made. I too had an Octavia without all these issues and regret not sticking with it. Yes Octavia also had lane assist but less troublesome.
  38. After washing & waxing the car yesterday, today I removed the snow baffle from air filter intake. I'll see how it goes & if there is no appreciable difference it may get re-installed. I also fitted some door edge protection stripping to all four doors. My car is black so this black rubber edge stripping blends in quite well. The pics below are not mine but give you an idea. Careful cutting is needed not to expose the internal metal U clips which could go rusty. Other than that it was a doddle to put on. It should protect the doors from over enthusiastic passengers but sadly not from other car doors!
  39. In fairness the system does its job well. Its purpose being to alert you of a potential issue with the pressures rather than an accurate readout of the pressures. I've had it trigger twice. Once on my previous Octavia when I had a screw in the back tyre and once driving though Denmark and the front tyre was down a few PSI for some reason. As above. The sensors can be expensive and cause additional expenses with tyre installation etc.

  41. Well its here!! Firstly I just wanted to say how pleased I am with the Service I have received with Williams Motorrad, Just superb and an absolute pleasure to deal with. Made the entire process of distance buying very easy (even for someone as picky as me) The Bike was Delivered on Friday Lunchtime and I was like a kid stood looking out of the living room Window every 5 mins waiting First impressions of the Bike when the van was taken out of the Van where excellent, I still had about 10 Mins scrutinising everything before accepting the Bike and signing the paperwork but the Bike was as described with no surprises. Even though it has done just 506 Dry Miles I could see it would benefit from a Detail just to get it back to 100%, Something I was happy about too as I love getting stuck in. In total I spent about 4 Hours on Friday and 5 Hours on Saturday working on the Bike and enjoyed every minute of it. My new Clarke CML3 Workshop Ramp also made things so much easier and paid for itself over the last few days. So here is what I have been upto over the last few days... : Fitted New Wunderlich Sport Screen, Light Tint : Fitted New Evotech Radiator & Oil Cooler Guards : Fitted New Evotech Paddock Stand Bobbins : Fitted Genuine BMW Tank Protector : Fitted Oxford Charging Lead : Fitted Dynamic Pro Riding Mode Coding Plug While fitting all over the above, I was cleaning, Degreasing, Detailing parts along the way. : Removed All Engine Plastics inc Belly Pan & Front Mudguard. All washed, Dried, Hand Polished and 1 x Coat of Collinites Wax applied. : Tank Hand Polished and 1 x Coat of Collinites Wax applied. : All Front of Engine and Headers given Polished using Autosol, Then treated with ACF50. Wiped off excess with Micorfibre. : Catalytic Converter Polished and ACF50'd. : Removed Hugger and Chain Guard, All De-greased and Cleaned. : All Swingarm & Rear Shock Area De-Greased, Cleaned. : Chain De-Greased using Muc-Off Chain Cleaner, Cleaned each link by hand and Re-Lubricated using Wurth High Performance Dry Chain Lubricant. : Rear Wheel wiped with Microfibre and GT85 to lightly degrease and remove Chain Wax Spots. : Removed Front Fork Leg Reflectors. Possibly forgot something but you get the idea. A few snaps for your viewing pleasure... Obligatory delivery van image... Here was how the Bike looked when I took delivery and not had the Bonelorry treatment, Note the Colour of the Chain lathered in horrible Wax, Colour of the Catalytic Convertor/Exhaust... Off with the Original Screen if you could call it that, More like a Clock Cover IMO... New Wunderlich Sport Light Smoke Screen fitted, Looks superb and is apparently very functional... Dynamic Pro Coding Plug fitted, Basically the BMW Dealership will not fit this as it allows for Traction Control, Anti Wheelie and ABS to be turned off and even though I won't ever do this on the Road I still wanted all available Riding Modes to be available. They will supply you with the Coding Plug to fit yourself... Oxford OF703 Charging Lead fitted, This is a swine of a job! Zero Clearance under the Seats and Rear Plastics to route the Wiring to the Battery so quite a bit has to be removed first to give clearance. I wanted a totally subtle and neat install. Most people just fit them and have them Cable Tied to a Footpeg, Very happy with the install. Sits under the Pillion Seat and is invisible with the Seat attached... All Plastics removed, Washed, Dried, Polished, Waxed... The Plastics needed to be removed to fit the Evotech Radiator and Oil Cooler Guards, All refitted now and looking smart. Very functional and well made bits of kit from Evotech... Headers and Cat all Polished, ACF50 Applied... Chain, Sprocket, Swingarm Area. Much better... Genuine BMW Tank Pad Fitted, These can be a PITA to fit. I have seen people with masking tape all over the Tank to get it straight, Done a few of these of over the past few Years and and did it by Eye... All finished, Ready for going under its Cover. No more ugly Fork Reflectors either...
  42. I was told by the police sergeant (Class 1 police driver, or whatever they're called) who got me through my IAM test they're taught that for use in close quarter high speed driving, not for general use.
  43. Well, went to the nearest track I have, dropped the times and all I can say... JUST FIT THE RARB!!! amazing how it can transform your car. I know there are various brands, but just go for it! Cheers to all!
  44. OK, thanks for your feedbacks.
  45. Had some foglight trouble earlier but they now work. Gave the car a test run around the farm today and it goes like stink. Its happy to slide around on the concrete with a bit of persuasion. The handbrake warning light came flashing on and gave me a fright. I think I just knocked the switch on the handbrake loose when I was installing the seats last day. Got the car filthy driving around though. It was already dirtied from sitting up but now it looks like its after coming from a Welsh rally stage. Another pic of the seats. They are comfortable and suit the car ok. The flash makes them and the carpet look filthy but they look great in person. I took off one of the vrs wheels to use as a spare on my Monte Carlo but I nearly prefer the extra space that the weird foam box that it has instead of a spare wheel kit. Until I can find a proper spare wheel kit I may leave the vRS wheels on this car. As a final note, the bonnet catch has completely freed up. I can pull it and release the bonnet by hand now which is nice. Still need to route it back into the car as it currently rests on the Wiper panel.
