  1. I picked up mine today 🥳 After first drive, it’s amazing, I love it 😍 I hope you’ll also get yours asap!
  2. As there seems to be a lot of people asking questions about this lately, I thought I'd put together a quick guide showing how I fitted my reverse camera to a facelift VRS hatchback. They way that i've fitted this will apply to most models, with the key differences being the size of handle (based upon car model year) and whether hatch or estate (but this is just inside trim differences), there may also be wiring loom differences for earlier cars or none VRS models. I've benefited from info from these forums so hopefully this will be useful to others. I am by no means an expert & I won't be able to answer all of your questions, hopefully others will chip in and can add other info as well. First of all, this is the camera that I ordered for my MY 2017 VRS (Camera A/Handle A): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000230897829.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.40694c4dTEPT93 (link may no longer be valid when you read this so screenshot below) No programming is required for this camera and it supports dynamic reverse guidelines Tools: Trim removal tools would be useful, but otherwise plastic tool that won't mark your car, or screwdrivers or similar with masking tape over the end. A T20 torx head tool is required if you have a hatchback to remove the pulldown boot strap Cable rods are very useful, I couldn't have fitted through the roof lining without. Stereo removal tools unless they come with your camera kit Cable route - I went with an OEM route for my cabling, following existing cables through the roofliner and out to the back as show by the red line below. The camera: The first thing that I did was to check that the boot release switch was working on the new unit - there's no way you want to wire this in and find it is faulty. You'll need to start removing the boot trim to access it. Remove the plastic clips from the lower boot trim- this consists of a few plastic clips which easily pop out with trim remover/screwdriver. There are 8 of these on the hatchback. After that start removing the upper plastic trim, this simply requires forces to release the metal clips. You don't need to remove all of this for now, but it will all need to come off later Remove the lower upholstered trim covering the tailgate. More metal clips - work your way around. You'll also need to remove the pull down strap with the T20 torx head. When this is down you should be able to drop the boot liner which will give access to the boot release handle. This can be awkward to remove, but can be done by pushing in the clip on one on the ends whilst also pushing down on the handle from the inside (ignore the clips along its length) - it should then pop out. Repeat for the other side. Unplug the harness and plug the new handle in - check the release switch works. You can either now push the new handle in until it clips, or leave it out to test the video connection later before fitting. To wire it in Remove the glovebox (open, rock left to right whilst pulling up & you'll hear the bottom clips release. Raise the glovebox lid up and inside the housing and reach in and remove the dampening on the left hand side) Use the stereo release keys to release the multimedia unit. The kit used here comes with a replacement harness that sits between the original one and the media unit & includes the video feed cable. Some people have removed the upper glovebox section to provide more access, be careful not to unplug the airbag connector if you do this. This can be fiddly, but I found the best way was to lie on my back with my head in footwell looking up at the unit from underneath. With the media unit slid fowards this gives access to the harness. It's the large one at the bottom and there is a locking connecting that needs to be pushed backwards to release. Check how it works on your replacement harness. Unplug old harness and plug it in to one end of the new one, push the harness in to the void and plug the new connector block in to the media unit. This took me a while to get it all to fit in. When done you can now test the video feed to the rear camera before your start wiring it in permanently. I took the camera cable over the top of the fusebox cage & out through the side panel I then ran the cable up the A Pillar to the roof lining and all the way to the end. Cable rods were really useful at this point, especially to get around the B pillar , and to go from the end of the roof liner through the cable exit point behind the rubber trunking where the original boot cables are. You can also run the cable in the trim above the sill and work your way back up to the roof lining on the C pillar. When you get to the end of the roof lining you'll need to unclip the rubber gator at the top of the boot so you can get the cable out of the roof liner and in to the boot via this gator. If you install the same way as me you only need to peel the roof liner down a few cm, being careful not to deform or damage it and you'll see the OEM cables behind. Once you've got the cable this far it's a case of feeding it through the rubber gator, up the side of the boot and over to the handle; connect the video cable and tidying up any spare cable. Everything should now be up and running. Retrace your steps to refit your trim. You now have a fully working reverse camera, activated when reverse is selected and with dynamic guidelines. The parking sensor guide now shifts to the left of the screen the same as an OEM reverse camera. I will come back and re-edit this tomorrow and resize pics as it's getting late. I'll tidy up any errors as I see them so please don't jump on me straight away!
  3. Sometime they do and sometimes they do not, and sometimes the Offer they make is more expensive than shows on that website. (You can tell us if they contact you before your warranty expires.) Do not jump in, just wait until due and then if no offer you know what to do.
  4. Easy to just check the price yourself. https://insurewithskoda.co.uk/extended-warranty
  5. Enjoyed my first full week of ownership, 300 miles down and few thousand more to go!! just waiting for the 26gb map update to finish downloading, then that’s a job for tomorrow. No regrets from moving from Audi so far
  6. Yea ok, I get it, no need to labour the point. They were three different dealerships, I like to shop around.
  7. For the original query re badges - ebay seems to have a few listed
  8. If all done then that should be ok. The 1.8tsi is a lovely engine to drive with when sorted - and it sounds like all the dodgy design "issues" have been addressed. To keep it that way make sure you have regular servicing - if it's on long life servicing get it changed to fixed miles/interval. When you get the car back keep an eye on oil consumption for a while It will take a little while to run the new rings in - don't thrash the living daylights out of it but vary your driving including a bit of giving it some jip. - Being tooooo gentle can be a mistake. Even my poverty spec 1.4tsi is sublime on a run. It's extremely refined all round but fitting Michelin Cross Climates tyres made a difference to road noise - not that it was bad beforehand!
  9. Who has deemed the cat is no good ? my old Fabia had the original cat for11 years and still was ok until car was written off after an accident, if you need a price for a cat try Bosal online exhaust, it was the only place i could find a replacement exhaust as most motor factors could not get the right bits for the estate model, price wise they were very good if i remember the cat for my mk2 Fabia diesel was just under £300 and the rest of the exhaust with clamps and brackets was £154 but that did not include any fitting which i did myself

Not at all - just a healthy dose of skepticism 😉 Thanks. I think they’re gathering feedback/confirmation from mine and a second car, then plan a roll out. Hopefully not to long now… I’m now so pleased I hung on in there, but there were times I doubted my sanity & the wisdom of doing so!
  11. Thanks Nick (I'm Nick H too coincidentally!). I've emailed Skoda too, I'll see what they say about it.
  12. Strut braces don't do anything on a road car, they do help on the track or on rally cars. Spend the money on a RARB instead, they really help the handling.
  13. How has the cat been damaged and what are the symptoms please?
  14. I've had exactly this plus ACC error after dealer had fixed something. Took it back and they sorted.
  15. In fairness this is why used car prices are so high. If you listen to the news all the car manufacturers are in the same boat. I'm glad i'm not in any rush, but sympathise with those who are.

Yes, I really should have read to the end before commenting! What an idiot!! Fabulous to hear about your car! So pleased for you. Let's hope Skoda now get this rolled out to all the others who have stayed so patient.

  19. Thank you, 789. Just got off the phone with the dealer. He is having the rings replaced, the pistons, rods, gasket, chain and tensioner. All paperwork and warranties will be available. If we still want a refund he will honour it but it sounds as if the problem should be gone. Trying to find any big estate within our budget is a minefield. If all the work is done, documented and warrantied I'm increasingly inclined to stick with the devil we know.

I was just reading your comments and thought… “hope he’s read through to the end…” - so thanks for this last one. Its been a week since I picked up my car with the replacement dashboard and associated updates - so far, all is well. Covered about 300 miles with no problems. KPH/MPH, ACC, Climate Sync, Škoda Connect, Lane Assist - all working fine. And subjectively, boot up seems quicker than before and the whole infotainment system feels more responsive. oh! And getting about 55mpg too - not bad for a 1.5tsi It’s been a while, but I’ve now got the smile back when I go for a drive😊😊

You could take a look on ebay to get an idea of prices, seaching using the OEM part number 5E0071499 (Anthracite) or 5E0071499B (Silver). Note that 5E0071499 is the same OEM part number as 5E0071499 HA7. The HA7 is the associated colour code, in this case anthracite. Similary, 5E0071499B is the same OEM part number as 5E0071499B 8Z8. The 8Z8 is the associated colour code, in this case silver. Check this is actually your OEM part number by looking on the back of the rims, as the OEM part number is always marked on the back of OEM alloy rims. Note that the zeros in this alphanumeric code are NOT capital letters, but numbers. So don't type 5EOO71499 if you want potential buyers to find your rims. To get an idea of new prices of OEM alloy rims for the Octavia MK3, take a look at "skoda eshop cz" converting the Czech currency into British Pounds. https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/hlinikove-disky/c/alloyWheels?q=%3ApriceAsc%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282017%2B%29%3AcarType%3AOctavia%2BIII%2B%282012-2017%29&page=1 X-TREM 19" light alloy wheel for OCTAVIA III RS Rim size: 7.5Jx19 ET51 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Product code 5E0071499 HA7 Colour Anthracite Material Light alloy Rim size 7.5Jx19 ET51 Tyre size 225/35R19 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-x-trem-19-pro-octavia-iii-rs/p/5E0071499++HA7 X-TREM 19" light alloy wheel for OCTAVIA III RS Rim size: 7.5Jx19 ET51 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS Product code 5E0071499B 8Z8 Colour Silver metallic paint Material Light alloy Rim size 7.5Jx19 ET51 Tyre size 225/35R19 https://eshop.skoda-auto.cz/cs_CZ/kolo-z-lehke-slitiny-x-trem-19-pro-octavia-iii-rs/p/5E0071499B+8Z8
  22. I'd really suggest the navigation. It helps the car for economy and you get the full screen map on instruments cluster.
  23. Have to agree with bigjohn and go for a refund. Just replacing the piston rings doesn’t cure the whole issue. We ended up with a complete replacement engine, thankfully covered by a skoda dealer warranty. Skoda Superb is a great car ..... just not with the tsi engine.
  24. finally! despite the sleep deprivation and being knackered i got up, and got out today. tackled long hill, but the northern extension again. its a 13km trip, with more climb than going to "the top" of the hill, so its just as tough on the legs. no records set, not even close, but i didnt care, i just wanted to get out
  25. A few weeks ago I was told order accepted by factory. Now I am told it has not yet been accepted. As you say, the inconsistency is terrible. Also got a letter from Skoda recently that asked for patience and said things likely won’t be delivered according to normal lead times and said the dealer would keep me informed (but likely to be some time before they can tell final production date). The only positive bit was that apparently the situation should be improving in the second half of 2021 - er we are midway through that…?!
  26. The irony is the salesman said it was a former VAG owned car.
  27. @Lawlesstce Make sure any online services have been registered and you can see the car on Skoda app if you download it. @e-Roottoot is very sensible about checking tyre pressures, if any are high then part (maybe a lot) of the PDI hasn’t been done, and you have no idea what else is missed (checking tightness of wheel bolts perhaps), so I would insist on whole PDI being re-done. Also if you have paid for any extras eg spare tyre, then check it is there (and is at correct pressure). And although this may sound stupid, my late mum’s last new car actually had a wrong letter in a numberplate, so they had to re-make and correct it (actually had different plates front and back, and she drove around for about 3 weeks before noticing)
  28. Can’t really agree. The integration features with Apple Maps and specially SatNav are just way better than using Google maps imho.
  29. B974 Cairn O Mount closed 6pm Saturday night until the Tour of Britain goes over on Sunday. Heading up on Thursday 16th to get pictures of the Scottish Malts 2021 cars coming south from a start in Aberdeen. https://heroevents.eu/event-schedule/scottish-malts-2021
  30. It will be MIB2.5 either Columbus or Amundsen. If it's the interior pic you posted earlier in the thread then it's the Amundsen.
  31. Oh, and brace yourself for someone to announce that the world is going to end if you just had the one spring done, not the axle pair; irrespective of the VAT issue.
  32. A fine summers evening. One more tonight then thunder and bumbling time.
  33. The onset of the nice weather appears to have brought with it a decent sunset this evening
  34. @LoneSalBug You have to buy from shop website .You go in connect and login and you have shop in upper right corner. From there you can buy what you want.I buy and work ok. regards
  35. I think we’ve reached the limit of my knowledge! So far, I haven’t managed to get the CarPlay - Apple Maps navigation prompts displayed on the cockpit, only the central Infotainment screen - but I believe some others have. And, sorry, but I have no idea about the error message. Hopefully your local dealer or Škoda Technical can help with that one.

KPH/MPH - fixed! Well, it is for me anyhow 🙂 Picked up my car this morning and had a drive of about 25 miles, mixture of rural roads and motorway. All working fine - but as I say it’s early days. The fix applied to my vehicle was a replacement of the Virtual Dashboard along with associated coding in to the vehicle and software updates. They also applied the other two software campaigns due for the car (48P9 and 69BN) and it seems some others too; paraphrasing the Master Technician ‘being a First Edition, your car has had lots of updates’. The good news is that changing the settings between MPH & KPH is actually auctioned and remembered when turning off & restarting the car; also, the built in SatNav can now display the distances in Miles (was always stuck in Km previously) - this setting is remembered too. I’m told by both the dealer and Škoda UK that my car is the first in the UK for this particular hardware fix, and they are keen for my feedback after some ‘real world’ driving. Many on here I know have issues with the ACC getting confused with overtaking on the right/left - I didn’t have mine long enough to notice that issue before leaving it at the dealer (for 20 weeks!) so I’ll be monitoring that over the coming journeys. Much to my surprise, on selecting my user in the car, entering my S-PIN all my previous settings (including seat position) were restored and iPhone reconnected to CarPlay quickly. All seemed a bit too good to be true, but as it stands today, I am well pleased with the fix. Clearly time and more miles will tell…
  37. Two advantages that I can think of are… Inbuilt Nav system can display the map on the Virtual Dashboard, either map view or turn by turn graphics on a ‘dial’ (speed & RPM) view It doesn’t use your iPhone mobile data. Downside is that the inbuild Nav doesn’t integrate with your calendar so have to manually input addresses - or save them as favourites (if it works OK). From a navigation perspective, my preferred Nav system is the Waze app, followed by Google Maps, then inbuilt or Apple Maps. Having said that (and a different topic altogether), Waze is owned by Google, and we all know how much [personally attributable] data Google havest to sell on to third parties - hence I don’t use either!

While my problems were not as serious as many of yours, including the dreaded KMH/MPH issues, I am glad to say that they were eventually cured. See my thread "Aussie RS owner with software problems". They turned out eventually, it seems, to be hardware problems since they were cured by replacing the infotainment control unit. That it took 3 months is regrettable but now I am happy with my Octavia and I look forward to driving it more when we get out of the lockdown that we have endured for over two months now.
  39. A quick pic of my corrida red Sportline outside our holiday accommodation. It's a bit filthy after a 650 mile drive but it will get a good clean when we're back home 😀
  40. Made the trip down to Morzine. Superb didn’t skip a beat, in fact was going a bit too well and I coped a €90 fine for speeding.
  41. You might want to take a look at this thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/485897-how-to-reverse-camera-fitting-guide/ It's geared towards an Octavia but the parts/theory should be similar.
  42. I have a 150 manual and average consumption over 47000km is 5.5/100km that's from measured tank fills and actually coincides with the car readout. I really don't get the tyre pressure advice as I always check it myself with my own gauge.
