  1. Taken with my Samsung Galaxy S20, a remarkably better phone than my S7...
  2. Washed the car today. Happy with the result.
  3. So first month or so of ownership complete. We bought our mk3 estate due to a baby on the way and having a large dog. The superb being the best wagon out there it was a no brainier really. I’ve always been a bit of a car snob in terms of wanting rare and unique cars. Our other car is a DS5 which I love however they messed up putting such hard suspension on it. That’s now the commuter for whoever’s at work that day. Previous to that I’ve had Alfa GT coupe v6, Z4 M coupe and a raft of Volvos. I have to say the superb is the best car I’ve had. It’s the mix of comfort and the technology that just suit exactly what we need. There is no compromise. Had my first long trip Thursday. A flying visit to South Wales and back from Cambridge in a day. This is my first car with radar cruise and what a difference it makes to getting tired. Takes so much stress away just leaning on the tech to look after you. I’ve always tongue in cheek made fun of VAG group cars, mainly the why would you buy a Audi Q5 when Skoda do the same underpinnings for less kind of thing. But I think having the Superb is the best balance to that as it’s the best value on this chassis but I don’t feel like I’ve lost any luxury at all. It’s certainly better built than my Z4 M coupe. This forum has been great as well. The Z4 forum was great but most others are very hit and miss. The Superb section on this forum is bursting compared to the other models and you’re all very knowledgeable. Baby was born on Sunday and hopefully coming out of hospital soon after a few little scares. And we can get Jenson the dog in with him. Cars been nicknamed JBP (Jenson Baby Palace) due to the palatial size of the thing. Perfect family car is ready to go.

Its the reason that my postings are consistent, it's very easy to spot those that overimbibe and to avoid engaging with them after a certain hour. It's a real problem on French forums hence my earlier comment. I have witnessed the decline of many from my computer, several divorces and sadly a couple of suicides. There but for the grace of god go I, I could so easily have gone the same way, I was on the path when I became teetotal 12 years ago.

sepulchrave this is one of the problems of the hit & run method of posting, you miss things. - True but the topic was completed a while back and even the OP has contributed a little to the end drift.
  6. sepulchrave, I appreciate what you've put (had to look up TLDR tho', and knew the news before the newsflash). AFAICS this isn't a site where fast questions and instant answer are always the norm, and I do realise some view on small screens but there's nothing wrong with different approaches and different views, opinions, methods and experience. Those that don't want my long-winded more comprehensive ways do, can and will ignore them. I'm sure we can agree to disagree with good humour, and even possibly now and again agree, no doubt see you round the block again in the future as I think like me you might have been round a good few times. Cheers. 👍

I just knew you'd be along at some point to be a miseryguts. If you don't want to play, don't.
  8. Make sure the calipers arent sticky from lack of use I know this as I recently got involved with a V6 TT that had been abandoned outside behind a garage for 3 years ! Only reason was the tax is €1800+ A friend is restoring her and the calipers were basically junk so he done the decent thing and used them as exchange for a refurbished set - You want to see the timing belt but thats off topic !!
  9. OEM part number for 312mm Audi TT front brake discs 8N0615301A It's best to use 310mm front brake discs rather than 312mm front brake discs as they are improved. 310mm have a minimum thickness of 22mm, whereas 312mm have a minimum thickness of 23mm. So 3mm of wear allowed on the 310mm discs, but only 2mm of wear allowed on the 312mm discs. 310mm and 312mm front brakes discs are interchangeable as they cover the same build codes and ATE don't sell the 312mm version. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-part The Audi TT MK1 uses an ATE front brake system (calipers, carriers, etc.) 310mm front brake discs s/brake-disc-10132/audi/tt/tt-8n3/17143-1-8-t?criteria[200][0]=310&criteria[100][1]=VA Audi TT MK1 front brakes https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+tt+tts+coupe+roadster/att/1999-229/6/615-615025/#1

Forget about it and the wind might deal with what you were going to cut. 😃
  11. Had the fuel evap canister replaced to fix a strong smell of fuel that was coming from the offside wheel arch. Had noticed the smell for a few weeks, and after a bit of forum searching, found this was the most likely cause, not just on Skodas but other VAG cars too. My mechanic checked for other possible causes too, but agreed with the diagnosis, and it does seem to have fixed the problem. Only a cheap part and quick to fit - around £36 for the OEM part, then a simple matter of removing the wheel and peeling back the arch liner and swapping the canister for the new one. This week it's also had a major service including DSG oil service, and is now running beautifully. This is for my 2018 220 Sportline. Winter tyres on today too. On another note, recently upgraded my summer tyres to Michelin PS4Ss all round, and the difference from the factory Pirellis is absolutely night and day. What a brilliant tyre - totally changes the drive, and instant traction when you put your foot down.
  12. Not much of an update but Went on a short spin to wicklow this evening and had this Mk1 vRS SE running alongside us over the M50. Thing was amazing to watch, shooting sooty flames out of it and went like stink. Had a hard time hearing eachother on the motorway though, might be prudent for me to get some sound deadening and have a go.
  13. No you put "former", I didn't reply well, the lack of alcohol has gotten to me. 🙃 Cheers. What was fault code p0130 anyway . . . no, I'm only joking, it's sorted it's dun. Cheers.
  14. Just got rid of my 18” rims and horrible tyres that came with the car when I got it at the end of September. Now running 16” rims with 205/60/16 (the rolling circumference is almost exactly the same) Michelin Cross climate II’s. The difference is huge! Much quieter and smoother ride, plus the car feels more ‘planted’ on the road. Will be selling the 18’s to recoup some of the outlay....
  15. I think with my posts it'd be very difficult to tell if I've been affected, especially if I do a quick post without multiply edits. I often have difficulties with reading off screens and speeling stone cold sober and I go to our 'local' micropub twice a week early evening and leave early evening so my late evening ramblings, or other times, are just my usual state of mind. When I was about 14 a friend of a friend was an acholic died whilst sleeping by choking on his own vomit so I think that was enough of a warning at a young enough age. I'm not a big drinker, just a real ale coniseer conissir snob, well that's what I'm told because prefer a good ale, well kept and well served. Good on you for not drinking and anyone else that wants to or needs to, a lot of youngsters are non-acholic and are well catered for in the big cities I'm told (I don't even like small towns so would know). Decades back I gave up drinking for a week at Xmas and week rolled into 15 months just for the sake of it but I was too popular - as a chauffer and the silly no-alcohol bottled beer (lager?) tasted awful and small two bottles of it gave me a splitting headache worse than if I'd drank too much as a teenager. During those 15 months I easily adapted and didn't miss the ales (but there went as many good brews and the variety of them back then). Same as if needed I could easily become vegetarian tonight, any veggie curry, particularly potatoes, and any sort of curry even English 70s sugar fruit curries with very little spice or curry flavour as change is as good as a rest. 😁 There, a short and precise post!
  16. Real leather is always a nice touch in a car IMO. I went with real Italian leather for my gearstick gaiter. Before: After:
  17. Nice one. My vRS one has a real leather covering as well 👍
  18. It was tempting. I'm quite keen on the 4-spoke so I might get one from a facelift Elegance since they had a leather covering.
  19. Ever fancied a vRS steering wheel, Ryan? I have one on mine.
  20. Plenty NHS, Social Work, Council Employees all around Scotland prefer to take the Loans and mileage allowance and drive the nice ICE vehicles while their Employers have car parks full of EV,s that they choose not to use. As to Highland region staff that are ignorant with using public chargers and vehicles then people just need to do what I do. I call the Convenor and email them and copy in every councilor and the local reporters. That gets attention. Through in Edinburgh where taxis charge at a council location someone is puncturing tyres of council vehicles blocking chargers. That now has the attention of those managing the Muppets.
  21. BTH the cost of electricity will go up as the cost to improve the grid to cope with the extra (at least double) demand as to be got from somewhere. Also as the Gov gets £££ from the yearly road tax, that will continue to see a rise. So in a few years you could end up paying as much per mile for your road tax & electricity for an EV as you do for a petrol driven car today... P.S. the charger is a 50kW on the "Courthouse Lane" carpark ..& I've seen the H.C. cars left there day after day...& looking at the comments it wasn't even a full electric & not plugged in!
  22. Sounds like the HVAC thinks your car is LHD?
  23. & they (H.C.) hog the EV charging points in the public car parks with their white Nissan Leafs...quite a few around here get "abandoned" for days on end resulting in the public not being able to use the chargers. So basically DON'T count on being able to use the chargers if you're up this way....!!
  24. @lol-lol i have done over 20,000 miles in EV's for under £20 spent on electric, and 2 x £20 spent on CPS Cards. A pity the Highland Council are not brilliant for the General Public who are paying for the infrastructure. Then to use Highland Council Chargers (paid for by everyone) it is 30 pence a kWh and max 45 minutes. No return in 30 minutes, £1 a minute for overstay.

From my own experience (my 2013 car has covered equivalent to 170k km) the logic controlling dpf regens isn't as clever as you give it credit for. It simply calculates the soot loading until it reaches 100% and then triggers a regen to burn off the soot to down below 25%. I suspect a regen occured somewhere in your 500km run as I usually get no more than 300km between regens on such long runs and then needed a second at end of 20km run. My car hasn't had the emissions cheat software fix, if your's has then the regen interval will definitely be shorter So the behaviour could be perfectly normal. However, my own car is predicting that it will reach 100% oil ash residue (the material that isn't burnt off by the dpf active regen) loading at around 240k km which may start to cause problems. So you could be close to that situation or actually having problems. Only way to be sure is to monitor the dpf performance using an app called VAG DPF. Needs an OBD2 adapter to plug into car diagnostic port but even with the recommended Carista adapter (which also allows troubleshooting and customisations with the Carista app) it isn't a big investment and more than worth it for piece of mind. Once you have monitored the dpf status for a while you will be able to spot the signals that a regen is happening without the app. Surprising how often I'll arrive home and based on stop/start not working and high idle speed know a regen is in progress so switch on the VAG DPF and go for another short drive until it's finished. Total regen duration tends to be around 15 minutes, earlier this week spotted a regen 1 minute in when I arrived home, just took a 3 mile drive around town at max 50km/h for it to finish. Better that aborting multiple regens which will eventually cause problems and cause car to throw a fault.
  26. Was planning to do the same with my 63 plate Elegance but was let down at the last minute by an eBay seller. Will be following your build with interest. Will you be selling the GTi seats? If you are I could be interested in them.
  27. On the flip side their stock of cars probably went up 1,2 3, 4 grand each as the value of second hand cars have just climbed and climbed. I have heard some real incredible stories of owners going to trade in their cars and getting a really pleasant shock of just how much their trade in is worth, that is if the garage was fair about the Glasses trade in value as I suspect they are not always. I was bowled over by what I got for my 5 year old Octy with 70k miles on it. Dealers also make money on parts, especially tyres the sell, for example quoting me £110 for a tyre that I can buy for £55, not a bad margin. Lots of overheads but usually best part of £100 an hour charge out rate for their servicing and additional work, not quote consultant and lawyer level but not bad. It is a different world post covid with many people only doing half the mileage that they use to but apparently round her is Worcestershire car dealers seem to be doing OK.
  28. we've got power but others haven't... but we do have a few inches of snow as well which would put me off using a chainsaw... knowing my luck id chop something off i didnt want chopped off.
  29. Problem (temporarily) solved. The brushers were stuck. it's now spinning again, but will be replaced soon.
  30. Awoken to power outage, so it may have to be the big petrol one instead!
  31. Links on this page to you tube of launch of the facelift Karoq in 3 days https://www.skoda-storyboard.com/en/models/karoq/the-new-skoda-karoq-is-being-unveiled-watch-the-digital-presentation/ No indication of when it will be available yet, if I had to guess then maybe production start April with deliveries starting later (although with current order backlog, it’s hard to guess). Might give more details in the launch.
  32. Managed not to set the kitchen on fire!! SL_MO_VID_20211126_185940.mp4
  33. Glad it is not just me. In the dark, it is hardly visible. I did not go for the lighting upgrade. Perhaps have to fit a 1970's style reversing light add on!

VRS iV Estate in Red Velvet ordered in June, I was originally given a week 34 build, then week 44, then 'we don't know' which was very helpful. Had a message from the dealer today to say the car is built and on the way. Should have it in December apparently. Which will be a lovely Christmas Present if it happens.
  35. The brushers often stick on these motors also they ware down. It is an easy remove from the passenger foot well John
  36. Like the shot of the chinook👍
  37. Thanks all, I’m sure I’ll still be around but I’m definitely excited for GTE life 😊

Detailed across three pages of the manual. Standard on higher spec 4x4's. Optional on lower specs.
  39. So, this hasn’t turned into an 80 page epic like the Octy thread for all sorts of reasons but after 8 months and 12k miles, the Superb has gone. It’s being picked up next week once the windscreen is swapped and then I’m allegedly off to the world of VW as all being well I’m due to collect a Golf GTE Advance. I’ll report back on how that goes once it’s here. Thanks for everything guys, this place truly is the best.
  40. Is there any other colour?
  41. When the camera is on, at the upper right there's a settings button. Set brightness to the max and contrast to the minimum. It will get much much better at low light.
  42. If the data sticker is missing from the boot/service book and there is no sticker on the cambelt cover, on UK cars the code can be found on the V5 vehicle logbook, the letters at the start of the engine serial number are the engine code.
  43. 2019 4x4 280 Stage 1 ECU TCU Eibach 20x9 ET35 255/30 Conti few mods
  44. When key battery needs replacing use a CR2032 (higher capacity, will last longer) which will fit even though it's 0.7mm thicker.

Signs To Show You May Need a Cambelt Change: If your cambelt has snapped the engine will not be in sync, I would have written that as, if you are driving and feel a jerk, lose all power, hear a rattling noise and see pieces of valve & piston bouncing along the road behind you then you no longer need a cambelt change
