Everything else is hair-splitting, UV is SO dominant, let's NOT consider quantum tunneling in a dielectric medium, changing entropy states and probabilistic statistical techniques on an unrealistic timeline. Let's stop talking rubbish and concentrate on stuff that actually happens, not stuff that might happen. As any good salesman will tell you, you just have to create doubt in the mind of the mark to sell them something they MIGHT need, and that my friends is bullsh!t.
  2. I rang the AA to see how much they would charge to put my son on my policy while he learnt to drive but they don't insure anyone under the age of 25. I gave Collingwood a call but they couldn't come close to other learner quotes 😞, they also came recommended by the AA who I'm insured through. I moved to St Albans from York in 1997 @ 19yr old, my insurance went down when I made the move, when I moved to South Yorkshire (Penistone) in 2006 my insurance went up! Quick Update.. After lots of looking around we took a policy out in my sons name through Adrian Flux. The price was extremely competitive & I've had insurance through Adrian Flux before with my modified cars and always had a good experience. As there is long delays in driving lessons, we felt a 12month policy in his name was a good idea as the policy allows for a 1yr no claims bonus too . The v5 can remain in my name but my son will be using it as his own car until he buys his own car and then will be used for my younger son to learn to drive in in a couple of years time. Another benefit we've found to buying a cheap car to learn in, the boys & I are carrying out the maintenance & servicing together, giving them valuable skills for the future (should they chose to use them) but at least they will know the basics of checking oil/coolant/washer fluid etc etc.

Please note - These are mechanics, qualified and certified to carry out MOT's with a full understanding of the specific requirements laid out in the MOT Testers Manual, He has obviously carried a spare for 21 years due to not needing it - I cannot understand the logic in the "wasted a lot" statement. I have no idea of the date of the spare in my Greenline that did not have a spare when new, only a bottle of miracle glue which I would have no faith in, so I will have purchased a wheel/tyre of suitable dimension that I periodically check the pressure of. Should I find it is loosing pressure I would get it removed/inspected and re-sealed/seated if applicable. Do you get 5 tyres fitted every time - 1 on each corner and 1 in the boot. This thread is getting stupid with too many keyboard warriors going widely off focus on the original issue.
  4. Couple of garden visitors this afternoon
  5. Managed to get to a rugby match today in Jedburgh. A couple of shots of the opposition nailing it.

Except you're forgetting this thread is about the spare tyre found in the boot of a 2008 Fabia 1.2, apparently the date code on that tyre was from 2007! 😱 It's completely ridiculous, my brand new spare is from 2001, it's correctly inflated too, guess what I'm gonna do if I get a flat, I'm gonna fit it and carry on driving!
  7. Neither is making out something is a issue when it’s not 🤷‍♂️ Skodamk4 suggests that not being able to turn it off is a problem when it is not. Can’t see why you’d want/need to turn the charger off.

UV is the dominant factor in tyre aging, if the outer tyre wall is visually ok then the inner definitely will be because it's in the dark its entire life, the spare even more so.
  9. Not done much to my car this week as I’m waiting on some small parts to arrive, but have really enjoyed having my car driving well again after the recent repairs I’ve done. Happy boy That said, the car still sounds a bit blowy, so took a other look at the down pipe repair and no black soot, so not blowing there. Not happy with this I looked back through the pictures I took and did notice the below 😱 …. what looks like a nice crack in the turbo manifold 😞 So I grabbed the KKK turbo that’s sat on my shelf in my garage and it doesn’t look like air could escape from here, but gonna have to take a proper look when I do the head swap & cambelt change in the coming weeks. I did quickly clean up the valves I removed from the head off the doner engine, cleaned more rubbish off the gearbox and that’s about it But, just for a change I was on Brisky the other day at the right time and place to come across some rocking horse p00p, but I’ll just leave the below picture for now….. My car is due it’s bi-annual interior strip and clean, which I’m gonna make a start on once I’ve finished my coffee in a minute …..

Kent is known for its rampant moose population, so, yeah op. Buy a proper wheel. 👍🏻
  11. 2 points
Hence why there are speed restrictions and distance restrictions. also you’re completely aware you have a spare wheel on because you’ve just fitted it. any conscious driver isn’t about to go rally driving with it on 😂😂 driving with a fit for purpose space saver is in no way comparable to driving with faulty brakes.

ok guys, another update: i have just replaced the flat tyre and the mechanic noticed that the size on the spare wheel is in fact same as my other wheels. i told him that it looks smaller on the cat though and it was because the alloy/metal part on the spare wheel is smaller than the alloys on the other wheels. i have never thought to look at the sizes that is on the spare wheel. the mechanic also told me the sticker is on by defualt as @AGFalco have stated. i am very sorry guys to have wasted your time, i just didnt think 😞
  13. Poor man's S4 Avant... Until I can get the money together for a B7 RS4 this will keep me entertained! Got lots planned with a BBT K300 turbo next on the shopping list.
  14. And a few from Clumber Park.......
  15. That is exactly where my 'spare wheel' is. Do you want me to check the date on it and its inflation. I'd guess about 2017 and over-inflated but it's too dark to see without taking it outside. 😁
  16. Doesn't look it but I washed it today, took about an inch of shed dust off it. Headlamp fell off but lets ignore that. It'll be going on the spyders sooner rather than later, and I think I've snagged some more parts for it aswell. Intended on getting a photo of it and the mk2 outside but I had 2 more cars to clean and it was dark by the time I got done.
  17. Wow. Still persisting? 🙄 After a couple of decades experience in retail I can guarantee you that trying to make your name by rubbishing other peoples products never ends well.
  18. My spare is dated 2006 IIRC. Used it once when my one of my alloys decided to give a big FU to me and deflated itself. No, I didn't spontaneously combust. No, no nuns were bonnet ornaments. And no, the hedge and I didn't become well-acquainted. If the age thing is of a concern, then make the choice not to use it. Free country (allegedly, that's a discussion for another thread though) so no-one is going to burn you at the stake like the 17th century witch trials in Salem for a 15ish year old tyre. The OP has solved their own problem, and I'm no expert, but doesn't that signify the end of the thread? EDIT: I do think if the tyre is visually f****d or definitely getting past its best then it's not right to use it, from a safety aspect at least. Once again, personal and moral choice, however. Apologies if it comes across as if I'm having a go by the way, that's not the intention.
  19. New car day 🥰 Unfortunately raining so wet drive home 😥
  20. Despite all your your fancy phases you might have misunderstood what I meant, are you really saying you'd bang on a 14 year old underinflated spare tyre, just inflate it until its not soft at the bottom and drive in winter as you did before fitting it. You are also mistaking a good salesman for a con-artist and neglecting that many/most mechanics think customers (and salesmen) are something you wipe off the sole of your boot, some of the biggest bull**** I have heard is from bad salesmen but also from many bad mechanics, senior mechanics, "technicians" and service managers who are thus also being con-artists to cover their faults and failings and certainly not being really manly and admitting their mistakes. Fair enough - "Using old tyres on historic vehicles The new regulations exempt non-commercial vehicles aged 40 years and older from these requirements. However, you should get all tyres of all ages regularly inspected by a competent person. This should be part of your tyre management and vehicle maintenance system. Even if an older tyre appears safe, you need to assess and manage any risks associated with its use. A short journey at a low speed when the vehicle is lightly loaded, poses different risks to those involving long journeys, high-speed journeys, or use while the vehicle is laden." - https://movingon.blog.gov.uk/2020/12/09/ban-on-tyres-over-10-years-old-for-heavy-vehicles-and-some-minibuses 'Like new tyres' freshly fitted, on a model that rarely goes far or fast. -
  21. It said M4 on the back.... honest 😇: Might've been latin - MIV Gaz
  22. Quick hoover and wipe down of all plastics complete Even managed to make the very grubby passenger seat much better on the eye… not bad for a 2 minute scrub with a microfibre and all purpose cleaner Also brought some work into the house 😇 🤫 if I’m lucky Zee might not notice! More on these later in the week …..
  23. It’s more a simplification. My understanding is the original vac box is basically an n75 valve anyway, but once you delete the egr you have no need for 2 of the vac lines. So you can clean up the engine bay a bit, and some say it controls boost better I think.
  24. Why is not being able to turn it off a issue?
  25. After rebuilding the rack, the darn thing wizzed fluid out like a jetwash in the end😳. So fitted one off a TT, new rod ends, and a new wheel bearing, and boy what a difference! 😊, much nicer to drive now, and back on the road more importantly. Thanks for your help chaps!😉👍.
  26. We really have taken back control, worth every penny, no matter what the cost!
  27. If I remember correctly, the Octavia should take 205/55 r16 or 225/45 r17. That'll give a theoretical 1.2mm ride height increase. I would be amazed if anyone would notice that... You'll see a bigger difference going from old to new tyres! The suspension doesn't change depending on wheel size so it'll look completely stock and normal.

that is real pain, when you to drive ~80 kms without Cruise Control and have to keep less speed than flow really can't understand where is problem, twice click on links i posted above - Pros and Cons have been described already: a) same size as all other wheels + can be installed on any axle + can be used for longer distances + no size diff = no speed limits + Cruise control will be available - boot floor will be pushed few cm up - most expensive b) custom 205/65r16 (my choice) + minor width diff will provide safe driving on + 30% of speed printed on spare disc. Important note, when installed on rear axle. + minor circumference diff will provide ability of Cruise control usage. In theory, i haven't had to use this spare after tire were changed. + fits in it's place, doesn't change size of boot. c) OEM 205/55r16 + lot wider than 'd' = safer than 'd', but don't think printed speed limit can be exceed more than + 10%, even when installed on rear axle. + fits in it's place, doesn't change size of boot - huge circumference difference disables usage of Cruise Control - huge circumference difference isn't healthy for 4x4 d) OEM 125/70r18 + fits in it's place, doesn't change size of boot - huge width difference = absolutely unsafe, even when installed or rear axle. - huge circumference difference disables usage of Cruise Control - huge circumference difference isn't healthy for 4x4
  29. Ask your garage to show you what they used to fit it, and then explain how they didn't do it right if they don't show you the gen2 tooling. (e.g. Sealey VS7029 Front Wheel Bearing GEN2 Removal/Installation Kit 72mm 5051747698451 | eBay) I expect it hasn't been fully inserted because it's hard to do so if pressing on the wrong part, or they've broken the ABS sensor, or both. Pressing in by the hub face is also very likely to damage the bearings themselves, as the force is being transmitted through them.
  30. I went with carparts4less as they were cheap and stated the headlights were RHD. Their customer service was a bit special, but probably broadly what someone driving an 18-year-old Skoda would want. You may have a better experience if you create an account before ordering. The rather brief MOT re-test passed. Many thanks to everyone who replied :-)
  31. Hi Carlston, Thanks for that. How did you and/or Jurid get that info? The only question raise the year for the diagram, stating octavia 2016, my is 2014. Would that potential make a difference? As I said no code on the PR sticker (attached)
  32. Hi AnnoyingPentium. I was deliberately choosing a car with good first paint and this one looked like a good one. I have been driving it every day and it has not failed me yet :). I did a big service, which didn't cost me much, cause the parts are cheap. It has better pull now, some rubber thing was broken ,so they replaced it and now it runs even better than before.
  33. It is yeah, Weathers clearing up soon so I may as well throw the Spyders back on the Mk1. The steelies are bald and don't hold air, massive pain in the arse pumping them up everytime I want to drive the car. Have a lot of parts coming for the mk2, some of those bushes. Had a brainwave to order a "full kit" for a mk1 fabia and split it between the mk1 and mk2. Full PSB kit, mk1 gets the wishbone bushes and the mk2 will get the Arb Bushes and Rear beam Bushes. Worked out as cheap to get the full PSB kit as powerflex wanted the same money for just the rear beam bush.
  34. Is that it on the spare wheels since the Monte has the vRS ones?
  35. Pa neka je sa srećom 😉 Anyhow…going to call my dealer next week for some info about my kamiq…but something tells me it’s going to be same answer “nothing new” 🤷🏻‍♂️
  36. Can never think of Father Ted without giggling about this scene... Or this one!
  37. I believe that episode of Father Ted where the priests are lost in the lingerie section was filmed in a Dunnes Stores
  38. ^ We used to have those Dunnes Stores here in England. I once had a job that involved taking the elderly out shopping and I used to take them there. They liked that it had a cafe inside.
  39. @DB72 Get your tracking checked, and when the new tyres are fitted ask what pressure they have been set at. Some tyre depots have good alignment machines, but very few of their fitters are actually trained to use it properly so always worth asking. There is a high chance that your alignment is out, or the tyres were at wrong pressures if they only lasted 12,500 miles. Going forward I would get the tyres swapped front-back at about 8-10k miles to even out the wear.
  40. Vicar water earlier.........
  41. I always fill the tank to the brim, I never know when I'll get that call and have to drive 200-250 miles at very short notice. As for topping up PHEV, I think for me, I would want one fully charged when possible. As mentioned above and also when considering my detached duty while working away from home, it would not often be easy, or even possible, to charge up the hybrididddy battery. Certainly, on my regular jobs and using my normal accommodation, I can't see an easy access charger nearby. Also, as I work 12-15 hour days on these specific jobs, charging is a total pain to consider on top of trying to find food and sleep. It's one of the reasons EVs simply wouldn't work for me. But, I've had my eyes opened a little about hybrids and perhaps this is a way forward for me. It's certainly not something that gets my blood flowing, but there again, I'm a dyed in the wool petrol head. 🏎️

  43. Some more pics From this weekend... Over 3hrs on the bonnet alone.... But well worth it... Opinions welcome!
  44. 2 months old, just had a wash. Love this colour. In the sun it's not 'just red' it's really quite deep.
  45. Sounds like a duff battery to me. Either take back to dealer/seller or replace yourself. Don't forget it needs coding so the car knows it has a new one.
  46. 1 point
    I tend to use it.
  47. According to this you need A4 stainless bolts to be equivalent to 8.8
  48. Hi I quite agree with Busdriver. We have only been caravanning for 20 years and now tow with a Superb Estate SEL Exec 2016 (190) (FWD). I previously towed for 5 years with a 2010 Superb II 170. They have both been excellent towcars with plenty of power and torque when required, and also extremely stable even in testing side winds. We normally tow 4-5k miles a year (not in 2020), both in the UK and France. I have never had any issue with the rear springs or dampers. The only modification I have made is to fit all season tyres (Vredenstein Quatracs) which help in towing on wet grass across CLs and CSs in winter. Happy Caravanning (when we can) Cheers Paul R T
