  1. Under inflate the tyres and over torque the wheel fasteners, tyre fitting golden rules😂
  2. Where is the online info from? Link? Unless from an official Skoda site I wouldn't trust it to be correct.
  3. Just to conclude this post. The pump motor is separated from the impeller using a rubber bung to keep the water from reaching the motor. I think this should be a fairly tight fit while still allowing the motor shaft to spin. In my new motor the bung slips out fairly easily and doesn't make a water tight seal. I'll try wrapping a couple of turns of PTFE tape around the bung and hopefully produce a working pump that doesn't leak.
  4. Be aware that insurance co might not agree. Worth a call.
  5. So they should when you are last car in a line and stopped. But as by the UK highway code if stopped for longer with traffic behind do not have the brake lights on. Apply the parking brake. It is the same as not sitting with your foot on the brake pedal. Autohold the brakes are applied, front and rear, parking / e-brake the rear brakes. PS, same as rear fog lights, if fog lights are required then last cars in the gridlock traffic should have on. Every car down the lanes at a standstill might have them on, even when the cars in front tail lights or brake lights and high level brake light is very visible. But drivers sometimes disengage their brain rather than functions.
  6. Year? Is it a manual or DSG? Do you have an Auto Hold On/Off button down on the RHS of the gear lever? If so I'd be showing this to the dealer and saying "see that button....fix it so it works!!!".
  7. Probably more of an interest for the person behind? 😂
  8. Aye that would do actually Pete, I'll post it down after Christmas. I'll try what @skomaz has said as well about the connectors first, and some more troubleshooting. Aye I managed to use the (helpfully annotated by the previous owner) manual to find that the 'ign' setting is set so that it should go on and off with the key. I'll try messing with the pins and suchlike. Cheers both, and @@Lee - I like a 'hammer' approach to troubleshooting.
  9. Here you go, from the "horse's mouth"
  10. The online info is wrong. It does say it is only a guide and you should use those in the fuel flap. So why don't you believe the ones in the fuel flap on the car that will be the correct ones?
  11. Not going to help you, but sure fun, your car has a "special button" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placebo_button A placebo button is a push-button or other control that appears to have functionality but has no physical effect when pressed. Such buttons can appear to work, by lighting up or otherwise reacting, which rewards the user by giving them an illusion of control.[1] They are commonly placed in situations where it would have once been useful to have such a button but the system now operates automatically,[2] such as a manual thermostat in a temperature-regulated office. Were the control removed entirely, some users would feel frustrated at the awareness they were not in control.
  12. Many buy a car and never look under the covers to know what are fitted to hold the wheels on and only check or search for a the socket when going for a service or to get tyres fitted.
  13. There seem to be an adaptation for that. https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/5104/#post-50529

So after over a year of waiting, my vRS Tdi estate is at the dealer 😂 I was initially told it would arrive in May, but Jan 24 is when it’s getting delivered !

Just had a call from the dealer. My car is complete and on it's way. Should be able to pick up mid January 2023. So if all goes to plan from order to delivery will have been just over 12 months.
  16. Me too, I love a good old post-mortem. There are some rubbish parts out there.
  17. Hi all, just a ramble mostly but I've had my vRS since new in Sept 2004 and am now up to 216,000 miles on the clock. Over all it has been a good car and I've only had work on the steering rack and a new clutch (and a few smaller things and the usual wear and tear items of course). Oh, and the air conditioning went a few years ago. Far to expensive to get replaced on a car this age so I just have to suffer the hot, thankfully short summer heat. Apart from the rear drivers side foot well getting wet (yet to be investigated) it's still a good drive. It's very noisy when stationary with the engine running. Sounds a bit like an old tractor. So at 216k and serviced every year, how long is this car going to last. Anyone else with high mileage vRS of the same vintage? Lastly, what to buy next? I'm not that keen on the Fabia's available now and have been looking at the Polo GTI, maybe 2 or 3 years old (when and if I've saved a bit more money). Happy Christmas to all. Garry..
  18. The not switching off with the key might be the 'ign' setting in the menu. After that I'd double check the connectors are well seated and none of the pins have moved
  19. I'd be happy to have a look at it Ryan. I did repair what may have been the same unit type in a workmate's Fabia by just resoldering some of the connector pins. Getting to the board they were on was quite a mission though as I recall. Different fault, that one was intermittent speaker connections. See if waggling that grey/blue wire makes it come alight?
  20. Gaffer tape and a hammer or WD-40. If none of that works, bin it
  21. Cheers. I'll mess about and see what comes of it. It's the lack of backlighting that's doing my nut in though, can't see the display at night.
  22. It sorted the radio not switching off when I took the keys out of the ignition barrel on my MkI with OE radio cassette player 👍
  23. Cheers Lee. Backlighting works with an MS202 and my VW Gamma but I'll check it anyway.

Thank you for the welcome 👍 Just this afternoon I have managed to get a better map update that seems to be fine. London, not the easiest of places to navigate 😬
  25. thanks again, bill was £165 - time taken to investigate fault apparently, eliminate coils as a suspect and this would have been more at a dealership for sure plus the long wait to book in at a dealership round here. no i haven't either got or seen the offending plug but i trust the garage.
  26. Perhaps he's thinking of the very first VAG 3-cylinder engines in mk1 Fabias; they had a tendency to burn exhaust valves?
  27. Was talking about this only this afternoon with my neighbour when I ordered what I thought was a set of springs on special offer to discover I'd got it wrong it was a single so I gave it back to the driver and had to cancel with the site, my neighbour asked who fitted only one side and I explained Dealerships and customers who insist on it. Last set of front road springs I fitted were proper rolled steel, you can still get them (for old cars at least) and they were not expensive could also be made to specification if required, I almost fitted modern (AreO bar) springs until a mate told me how often they break on modern cars.
  28. Speaking from recent experience, as others have said, it will almost certainly be a sized bearing within the heater. What I would add is that you can unclip the motor from the drum fan to get to the bottom bearing - it was that one that had sized on mine.
  29. You could scan for non-latching fault codes.
  30. The box is sitting within the void here

    Welcome to the forum 🤝
  33. 2016, DSG, button is there (i think all superbs MK3 have it) Yes, that's what I did - showed them the button and explained that it is not working as expected.
  34. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364057830004 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/364043815612 Cannot say how good either are, it's fleabay after all, hopefully if you use PayPal, you should get extra protection, or a credit card.
  35. Agreed: I inexplicably thought we were discussing a petrol car.
  36. I have not yet seen a Kamiq used as a taxi / private hire car yet. Who are Kamiq drivers tooting the horn at HGV,s? Maybe go stand outside your car and have someone press the horn, is it loud enough to alert pedestrians and cyclists? What more do you need,?
  37. Wonder if someone treated themselves to it for Christmas 🙂
  38. If you can keep the tinworm under control a car can last almost indefinitely simply replacing items as they eventually wear out.
  39. This was registered 16 years ago today. Now over 71,000 miles and soldiering on nicely. Hopefully I'll see more out of it yet.
  40. Not sure about the hatchback model but my old rubber mark 3 Estate boot liner actually fits perfectly in my mark 4 Estate with the variable raised floor. Worth trying if you happen to have an old boot liner handy.

So here's my dirty beast. Managed almost 100 miles from picking it up before a journey to Germany and the snow. Performed awesomely with temperatures down to -14.5c Just needs a good wash as a Christmas present
  42. i'll wait 'till theres much ice and then give it a fuller 10 second wheel spin test. If the light doesn't come on then (and I'm still in the same spot) then I will know its foobar!! Then I'll take a trip to the stealer. 🙂
  43. Modern VAG cars don't cut the power on wheelspin instantaneously like they used to and light the dash up like a Christmas tree, totally normal to be able to spin up a bit and not see the traction light, at least in my experience
  44. Did the dealer try to reset the SW or reinstall the latest SW version? It may bring everything in the right configuration… Not heard of such thing either…
  45. The original pump is 1k6 955 651. The eBay replacement quoted the same number so should be the right one for £8. I did find the old pump could be disassembled easier, the cylinder on the side could be pulled off, rubber O rings sealed the connection pipes. (The new unit is all glued) Then I could split the cylinder where an internal seal was leaking causing the initial problem. Wrapped a bit of PTFE tape around it, pressed everything back together and it seems pretty water tight.
  46. Guys Many many thanks. If there are many known intrinsic issues with the lump itself ive already put my shoes on and am walking down the road.. As ever BRSKODA comes up trumps.. Thanks all the hunt for a replacement and reliable motor goes on
  47. A 2010 1.8 tsi with 100k is likely to have plenty issues never mind the one quoted.
  48. Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything. Instead of WD-40 Multi-Use get a can of GT85 as it can be used on rubber, contains PTFE and does what WD-40 does and more, and is a better and longer lasting lubricant and better penetrating/releasing fluid. (Note the company that now owns and makes it.) - https://gt85.co.uk/gt85-original/
  49. 5 years from a battery is good going. Personally I would have no qualms about replacing it.
