  1. I saw the Atto 3 today at FCLive. Its size seems very good, not too big externally but big enough inside as regular car. Not sure about RRP though, they need to undercut the established to gain more mindshare. I'm more interested in the Delphin, its size is even smaller, perfect for city runabout. Again, official RRP is too much, need to be priced similar to Fiesta. BYD stand was super popular.
  2. Take a look at the hyundai kia EVs...
  3. It's a bit too little, & too late. I'm looking for a small-ish EV with a decent boot. An EV version of the Kamiq or Fabia would have be fine but since they stopped making the Citigo there's nothing smaller than the Enyaq. No more over priced over sized SUV's please!!!
  4. A few from Clumber Park earlier...........
  5. Protrack wheels ONE 18 x 8 et45 Pilot sport 5 - 225/40/18 Alloy weight is 8.7kg each. (So saving around 3kg per corner versus the oem Gemini's)

Yes you dont want to use your diesel powered ship for the school run!!! 😆 When the penny finally drops that it will be impossible to stop all ICE production they will force scrubbers and bunker fuel on us!

Completely untrue in regards to a comparison with a petrol engine for economy on short journeys. A petrol engine runs an enriched mixture for many miles after start up and only reverts to the stochiometric ration when it is nearing normal operating temperature with the thermostat opening. The starting enrichment of a diesel engine is removed within a few seconds of firing up a cold engine, as soon as the compression ignition is maintained. The great advantage of diesel vehicles before they became hindered by DPF's was their outstanding economy on short runs compared to petrol engines, that advantage remains but there are now other considerations like the DPF service life.

So, im now the happy owner of a mk3 254 challenge 😁 First impressions are, its a cracking car. Love the heated seats!! Only used to the seat pad being heated in my old car. Also, wasn't aware the rear seats were heated too! Kids will love that! Comfort mode still feels firmish but manageable. Sports is harsh, but feels fantastic throwing it around a B road. Think the infotainment might take some getting used to! I aint very technically minded! Small niggles... n/s wing mirror doesn't seem to go back after dropping when in reverse, unless I put the control knob back to centre? Aint been able to connect via android connect thingy, tho only had a brief play. And, still absolutely hate the gloss black spoiler! Other than that, it puts a huge smile on my face after driving family busses for the last 10 or so years!
  9. Good car and good reviews on YouTube. Only two criticisms and that it is a bit short for an estate, should be another 20cms longer and secondly the driver interface is not as good as western IT. Otherwise ticks boxes. Needs a bigger brother.

Accepted. I understand. I am capable of this and am just needing some info. I one of those people that is better under a car than I am at sounding intelligent on here. Lol

I'm not a mechanic but used to be many years ago. I work on lots of cars but have not worked on very new ones. I can't check under the car at the moment as I've just had a hernia op so my bad for asking about the sump plug. If I can do a cam belt on a v70 with CVVT and gearbox or on a XC90 or a complete head job on. 300tdi then I'm more than capable of doing the cam belt on this. As with all new things we have to learn and knowledge is key. Mechanics learn from their workshop manual when a new engine is brought out.

I'm more confused than Phutters ! If millions of people are driving on tyres without issue then obviously they're not useless.
  13. & i forgot. For room / space / value, a MG5 Estate. Long range or not long range. If i was spending cash money buying i think that is what i would be getting. They drive and handle like normal cars and are on sensible size tyres.
  14. I did, as it is one of those jobs I don't actually believe they will do if you leave the car them! Saw the oil go out and new oil go in. They showed me what came out.
  15. The power wiring to the pump is the obvious problem here, not just the cleanliness of the connections. Not sure how easily you could back-probe the connections at the pump while plugged in and active through/past the rubber seals but that's what I would suggest. With multimeter on dc volts setting, go looking for that missing voltage by measuring along the length of the two big cables. Positive red connection at pump to each/both ends of the strip fuse it comes from, then from brown earth connection at pump to battery negative. Ideally with pump loaded at least somewhat by an assistant wiggling the steering wheel gently from side to side, engine running.
  16. Give Stallantis EV's a miss. Only go for a clean sheet build EV, not anything that comes with a Petrol. & Plug in & maybe even a diesel. The 50kWh Batteries with 45 kWh Usable are crap if you are getting just 3-3.5 miles per kWh & if supposedly 52kWh and 50 usable that is a con. There just not as good as Kia / Hyundai, or MG or Renault & need to get there act together. Lovely interiors, stylee, nice looking, comfortable. Need bigger batteries and better efficiency / range and Winter weather efficiency is very very poor. Positive. Used prices dropping, Ex Mobility cars coming into the trade & people are getting rid of them because they are ****e. People are going for PHEV's for local and short trips and home charging.
  17. No I dont think so, bearings can transfer an immense transient load. Its a shame the OP neglected to mention this minor (to him) pothole event that destroyed 2 tyres and an alloy wheel even when I asked if there was any evidence of damaged or replaced alloy wheels, it would have saved a lot of speculation. I had a similar shunt when recovering from my first detached retina, a width restriction kerb that was on the trajectory for a left turn & which had been hit many times & continues to do so, it was also dark, enough of my excuses, both front and rear wheels went over it throwing the car up like a bucking bronco twice, front tyre wrecked rear tyre ok, neither alloy broken, just scuffed. The impact bent the steering arm like a banana and also bent the track rod end and skewed the ball of the inner joint, all were replaced in time but straightened initially. The wheel bearings were unaffected and were still silent when the car was scrapped a decade later at 32500 miles. I have never seen a torsion beam axle, do they have seperate bolt in hub shafts like a trailer suspension unit? If so then it makes sense that these will be designed to be the weak link in an impact, if the part is available then just replacing that will be a lot cheaper and reckon bring it back into spec, someone earlier explained how the consequent crabbing would wear both rear tyres even though the static toe in on the other side is correct. Assuming the OP is paying to have the work done I would recommend having the stub axle alone replaced initially if the part is available, if not but the old one can be removed then it can be clocked in a lathe which will show any bend. If its bent then it will have been removed to check, if a new part does not exist then I would buy the cheapest second hand axle and just use the stub axle from it to repair the vehicle. AndyM20, did you really not consider that the pothole that wrecked one wheel and 2 tyres only 3 or 4 months ago would have been the cause of your subsequent tyre wear? Did none of the garages ask you the question?
  18. I would but it's too big for the Mrs. She even finds her Karoq a bit too big for her day to day driving so we need something smaller. A Kamiq or Fabia EV would have been fine but of course they are not available. ID3 is a no as well due to it's god awful infotainment & interior quality. I'm currently looking at a 22 plate Pug E-2008 GT. Just not sure my wife will get on with the position of the silly little steering wheel pugs have now. I need her to get a test drive to confirm if it's a goer or not.

Oh ! Has this thread ended ? Lots of us thought it was just getting interesting !
  20. Graham, I've done a scan of the 'Complete record' from 27/10/2020, two A4 pages, to give you more idea. Note the 'Workshop remark' for a Recall. The first service listed is interesting, when my wife bought the car in April 2017 I insisted on a paper printout of the service history as the car belonged to the Dealership and I guess it'd been ordered as a demo model of the new at the time Mk3, then perhaps used as a courtesy car and perhaps on to pool car for garage and/or management family. The salesman was reluctant to get us the printout and said it needed office staff to deal with this and it wasn't necessary, so I offered to go and find someone in the office and ask them to deal with it. At this he went off and was away a long time before he return with one A4 bit of paper for a "10,000 mile service" on 31/12/2016 at 10,303 miles. On seeing the date and mileage I thought the whole thing suspect and possibly the Dealership had perhaps never serviced the car. Only doing these scans for you have I noticed the mileage is 10,303 yet on the 'Vehicle Order Form' dated 10/4/2017 has the mileage at that time as 10,301, perhaps a typo, I don't know as I never drove the car I sat in the back and only remember the car being advertised at 10k-miles but not exact figure, my wife was buying the car for herself so I have very limited input.

  22. After seeing the Pug 2008, E-C4, E-208, Corsa-e, Mokka-e & a DS3 all on the same site today I think the Stellantis models are a no. We did also see some Kona's & Niro's today which got a more favourable reaction from my wife. They were a bit more expensive but have longer ranges. Saw a few Mini's today as well but the 2 doors & the 100 mile range is not enough. I think the search is narrowing down to a Kona. Might wait until the new Knona comes out (soon) which should drop the prices of the current used models, hopefully.

I appear to wind him up without trying ! So much anger... why? I have much better things to do than play post ping-pong.

Mostly I do it just to wind you up. Seems to have the desired effect most of the time. Can’t be idling the afternoon away. I need to get out and play with the big girls and boys in their rigs with eco tyres or whatever it was you said.

I try and make a valid point and... You're not allowing anyone to make a valid point without resorting to baiting people with comments like that. As I said in a previous post, I have no desire to enter the multiple thousand posts club so please try sticking to the subject. You said OEM tyres are useless for lots of the UK for much of the year which is factually incorrect - it's fake news. Within two posts you're already back-peddling - 300 and odd days a year is not 'much' of the year, rather it's only a small fraction of the year. 9 million people live in central london but only 3 men and a dog live in our neck of the woods. You have to look at this from the majority point of view. OEM tyres are perfectly fit for purpose for Mr Joe Average. If however Mr Joe Average wishes to change that purpose, then you can't blame the tyre, or the manufacturer.
  26. Yes indeed, I had editted my post when I thought of that, the postings overlapped. My apologies for misinterpreting what you meant, I am quite woozy and the wording was ambiguous, I see you have since editted out the "to" which further confused me.
  27. Yes 1440 is available that i installed just this week. @varooom will share the file to you as he shared to me
  28. Looking at the photos on the Ebay listing that Pete kindly linked to the shaft diameter inside the rear bearing (or is it a single double row bearing?) is about 1", I reckon that would give before the trailing arm of the torsion beam, the fixings are spread over a wide area and the rear face machined, I think it is designed to be a very strong joint to the very strong trailing arm of the torsion beam and the removable hub assembly being the sacrificial part in the event of a significant impact. Garages will always diagnose and propose the repair that makes them the most money on parts and labour and in fairness to them the one that has the least doubt of success, I would swap the hub first. Its the shame that the hub looks both handed and the fixings polarised, otherwise they could be swapped side to side to prove that the axle is not bent or it could be rotated 90° so that the camber and not the toe in would be affected again proving the axle to be straight.
  29. Unloaded voltage tells you nothing except that neither conductor is totally broken.
  30. I know a local gearbox specialist here only dealing with such gearboxes. Especially the automatic ones. That shop is usually overflowing with cars waiting for the repairs. They drill those gearboxes from specific points to make them refillable. That's right. There is nothing fancy. No power steering, electric windows, ABS, A/C, airbag, ECU, sunroof. It has really good advantages over DOT4. I didn't know the seals were compatible with DOT5. It's not hard to make a complete flush. On the next fluid change, I will consider shifting to DOT5. I would choose DOT5 just for the reason of being paint friendly.
  31. This will depend on the purpose of the reversing light. Is it to indicate to others that the car is reversing or to illuminate behind the car?
  32. <snip>… New Skoda owner here, Kodiaq 2019, very happy with the car but struggling to believe the situation with the service history. Dealer (Looker's) could give me dates of inspections/oil changes/services but no detail, none whatsoever. Are we really to believe this is acceptable?! They can't even tell me which garage did the work in the previous services, or so they claim. And now, the sales manager of the dealership claims my engine (1.5 Tsi) is chain driven rather than belt. Four minutes' research told me only the 2.0 petrol engines were on a timing chain rather than cambelt. Happy to be mistaken but I have no faith in him or his knowledge. Has anyone found a method of getting detailed service history? Is there someone on here who might happen to have access to Skoda's systems (or is it really as fragmented as they suggest, where individual dealerships' info is siloed?) Cheers
  33. Phone them with your VIN to hand and they'll be able to check better on the screen they have. Better info than on the website.
  34. Buy the car you really want. Nothing worse than driving along and seeing the car you should of bought....

At a guess, it's the voice enhancer...? From the owners manual:
  36. I took a quick look at both our Polo and Fabia an hour or two ago, both of which are in spec as far as I know, for their respective rear ends. The toe in is quite visible even at a casual glance, so nearly 2 degrees of toe out on Andy's car's nearside rear must stick out like a sore thumb, I'd think?
  37. Drop the back seat and lift the carpet next to the seat to reveal the worlds smallest and crapest sub
  38. Thank you for this, these are the type of records I was shown except the ones I saw IIRC just showed Oil Change Service and the miles, never mentioned any extra work like brake fluid change etc which has to be done periodically to prevent water contamination.
  39. A few from this evening's walk. Apparently the yellow beaked Swan is either a Bewick (from the Russian arctic tundra) or a Whooper (from Iceland) - wintering in the UK.
  40. In reality we are nearer the £20k price bracket so it will have to be a used model of some description. It needs to have a decent boot space, 4/5 doors & the Mrs wants heated seats, blind spot monitoring, pano roof & a shed load of other features. Problem is she's got used to all the features on her Karoq Edition & is reluctant to go without them in the replacement EV. Typical. The reality is we will probably keep her Karoq, which I will take over, & (much to my regret) sell my Superb 280 L&K Estate to make way for the EV. I will miss the power & practicality of the Superb. I'm looking at some Stellantis models like E-2008, Mokka-E, EC4 & possibly an E-208 but some of those cannot have a pano roof & some don't have a rear wiper (a pet hate of mine) which is a pain. MG4 is not to our taste (no rear wiper or pano roof) & is missing some other basic amenities like no rear interior lights, dark interior & no rear centre seat headrest. MG ZS is also a non starter because of undersized wheels & it's goofy looks. ID3 is still too expensive & it's carp infotainment system would preclude it anyway. Don't like the look of Tesla's which are too expensive anyway. Love the look of the Polestar 2 but too expensive & no rear wiper. Why is it we always like the things we cannot afford?
  41. Glad to help It drove me nuts also, cause I bought a used superb with 80k km on the clock and it started doing this. Dealership in Lithuania is amazing. Mechanic sat in the car with me and immediately said that this is a strange noise and it can't be there. Took the car to the lift, and with a set of stethoscopes after an hour found that this solenoid housing was touching the firewall. When solenoid started to work with a low frequency like 50 Hz, it resonated to the chassis and only inside the car You could hear it.

I have a 2011 CBZA 1.2 tsi Roomster, and the chain is rattly sometimes when I start the car up, but it goes away after a few seconds. It has had the chain tensioners replaced by a previous owner, so I assumed it has the revised one. Apart from that, I think it's a lovely engine and feels more powerful than it is on paper. I assumed all 1.2tsi Roomsters have the cam chain?

My bikes never once saw the inside of my parents car or anybody elses. Times change, it certainly would not have been a factor they considered in choosing a vehicle. Wwhen I was a baby up to toddler age my parents had a pre-war Morris 8 Tourer, my sisters who would have been 7 and 10 years old then rode in the backseat and I was placed outside on the dicky seat in the slipstream of the exhaust and oil fumes, it's what made me a petrol-head!

It's the choice of tyres factory fit. To get a better WLTP emissions rating (at test temperature) they fit Eco summer tyres as standard. Unfortunately these tend to be poor in wet below about +10c. On my car (not a Karoq) with 1 litre DSG managed to spin wheels pulling out of side turnings when cold and damp (in normal, not sport mode). Bought a set of winter wheels and tyres which I use early November to late April, never been able to spin wheels since. Trust me, car will be lot more fun with good winter tyres when temperature is below about 15c in wet or 10c in dry.
  45. The Atto 3 has been a sily price for a Chinese import but the sea creatures range Dolphin, Seagull etc should come in at proper prices hopefully ie closer to what they sell at in China which, in the case of the Atto 3 was almost twice what it sells for in China where as more like a quarter more should be more like the uplift of price when one add import duties and transportation cost. BYD will be looking closely at what SAIC/MG are doing and try and mimic MG's winning formula. What is a difference is that MG went for rear wheel drive but the BYDs are FWD. A big area of debate as these cars, compared to many of the small ICE car, and many European EVs, do not just have 100 to maybe 135 hp, which is a typical level of the big selling Stellantis cars as well as the big selling Zoe in most recent guise, these cars can have 200 hp plus, presents its own issues. Torn on whether its right to go back to RWD or stick with FWD as most small cars are these days unlike the 80s and before. A revolution in the small electric cars is happening where these cars are not the heavy and slowish option compared to the ICE competitors but now the EVs will be far higher performance and not that much more to buy and of course a fraction of cost to run. I can see hp limit options for insurance which when one turns 21, 23, 25 when can unlock another 50 hp, another 100 hp which will mean the insurance will rise. Insuring a TESLA can be very expensive for dual motor/performance versions. In the vein of EVs suddenly becoming the fun, and not just the ecological and cheap to run option, Europe should soon have the MF Cyberster which should hopefully well less than £40k with current massive drops in battery pack costs. The MGF reborn for the new century ?
  46. totally agree with this, I REALLY love my Sportline seats in my Kodiaq. Well summarised.
  47. My car is 100% vision based autopilot and apart from a few light braking when approaching bridges, I've never had proper full on braking events in all 5k+ I've driven so far. I've read report that since stopped using the radar, false positive emergency braking have greatly reduced. But I do get where you are coming from regarding autopilot, for me it's the the auto steer, it feels nervous on all but most well marked roads with gentle curves. It's still a good system in terms of UI, but I'm sure other properly validated system will drive with more confidence. What car randomly emergency stop for no reason? My Skoda Octavia had the red collision warning on a few occasions for no good reason. The radar systems are prone to misreading metal objects. Glad you are happy with Enyaq. I test drove it, it's super comfortable and a very good regular car. I personally felt it is not special enough, not enough change from previous Octavia, not worth the similar asking price when spec'ed up to MY LR level. Oh yes, @lol-lol, if you are considering Tesla, be sure to get a quote first. They are unreasonably expensive to insure. To some people, unless they really want a Tesla, it's one of the reason to look elsewhere.
  48. The below five Michelin Pilot Sport Super tyres are all UUHP Ultra Ultra High Performance tyres. As you can see below, the first two versions of the Pilot Sport tyres were Super, but weren't actually called Super...presumably because Michelin didn't do different versions of the Pilot Sport at that time. What happened was that when the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 came out it became a softer, less track focused and more rounded tyre. After the Michelin PS3 came the PS4 and then the PS5. To answer the OP's question, what is best depends what you want out of the tyres. The tester on tyrereviews recommends a Michelin Primacy+ over the Michelin UHP tyres for his dad who drives an Octavia VRS because he would benefit more from the quieter and more comfortable ride that a premium touring tyre gives. The History of Michelin Pilot Sport Super 1997 Michelin Pilot Sport 2004 Michelin Pilot Sport 2 2011 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 2017 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Super 2023 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 5 How Michelin should have named the above, ie. they are all Super 1997 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 1 (PSS1) 2004 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 2 (PSS2) 2011 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 3 (PSS3) 2017 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 4 (PSS4) 2023 Michelin Pilot Sport Super 5 (PSS5)
