Just has this photo from the dealer. Car ready for collection tomorrow 👍
  3. As said before, won't to be everyone's taste, but I'm really happy with how they turned out 😄 Will get better pics after I've done some other bits to the car in the next couple of weeks and it's not ****ing down
  4. Tidied the Fab up in prep for going away a few trips over the coming weeks. It's looking quite good for a nearly 17 year old car. Oh, and also, big thank you to @vRS19TD for providing yours truly with the correct switchpack. I just need to wire in the rear windows now, but I've got this in and controlling the front windows from it fine.
  5. Hard going, apparently. 🤣 Would appreciate a link to the instructions on how to do it, please.
  6. Hooray, the Amazon driver has just been and delivered my wiper arm puller tool. I dashed out to give it a whirl, removed the rubber cap and placed in the scuttle, undid the retention nut a few turns and slipped on the tool, (one thing to note is that it does not come with the required 8mm Allen key, so if anyone is ordering one, make sure you have a Allen key), gave it few turns, tool remained securely locked on with zero attempts to slip off. A few more turns and "Crack", the arm was free and yes the taper is indeed splined, moved the arm very slightly away from the A pillar and tightened up the nut nice and tight, went to replace the rubber cap, and its gone, can't find it anywhere 🙄. Oh well, tried out the wipers with a drenched screen and full speed and there was silence, no more smacking into the pillar, success, now to try and find another rubber cap. One thing I did find though, was that the plastic under tray for the engine is missing, never noticed that before as I just thought it would be there. I can see the 2 side pieces that it attaches to and it looks like the clips etc are there so I'm guessing the dealer removed it when they did the engine and gearbox service and forgot to refit it. Anyone know the part number and the cost of it at all? I don't think it would be worth my while driving another 290 miles round trip to Mansfield to pick it up, assuming the dealer still has it?
  7. Same here, Got the car in the beginning of May with 18xx something software, had the 1900 version OTA pushed automatically within a couple of days after. Cannot say for sure if the restarts are connected to other services I downloaded those first days. I was "mildly" affected by restarts of the infotainment, ranging from none to 4-5 reboots a day, all apparently related to the AA or Carplay connectivity. Didnt notice any other trigger. Now I just installed the 1941 version (ty @varooom), following the plentiful info also provided by others (like sequence of operations, media support type, etc) Update went smooth, some 18 minutes altogether, plus the 4-5 minutes I waited at the end, afraid to press the "resume" button, that actually ends the process. It is too ealy to tell, I will get back in a week or so with more info on the post installment behavior. Cheers to all the contributors from this great community!
  8. Mine was on 1900, it then did several downloads and that's when the problems started, had multiple issues which seem to have got worse, varooom kindly sent me the link, from which I downloaded 1941 and after thinking hard about it, I installed it and everything has been performing beautifully ever since.

I have my answer! After speaking to some friends who work in engine calibration and checking boost and lambda through the ODB port, we came to the conclusion that it’d been mapped, badly. I finally had someone out to check this officially and he confirmed the flash count was 10! So he put it back to stock and this morning on my commute that I was getting 20/21 mpg on, I got 26.7! I had a lot of people saying it was normal, so glad I trusted my instincts and got it sorted. As a bonus, the throttle pedal feels a lot more natural now as well.
  10. I've got it! Probably necessary for firmwares... 🤣
  11. @tootI put 18s on my Octavia that had torsion beam rear end like the 1.5. Granted it was lowered and with B6 shocks but it wasn't that bad.
  12. It's a personal thing. If you are not used to the car and you are new to driving (first car etc) then maybe stick to the 16s. They will be more forgiving and better on fuel. Toots idea to change the wheels at a more convenient time might be good too. For what it's worth tyre reviews in YouTube did a test with the golf with different wheel sizes and found the 17s to be the best compromise for comfort and performance.
  13. My last two cars have had 18" wheels and I won't have them again. Poor roads, pot holes, kerbs and comfort mean my next car will be 16" rims or smaller Gaz
  14. Cheers gents, only got one side pic so far as it's raining and crap lighting, looks darker in this pic than they really are
  15. One of the reasons I chose my current Ocatvia was for it's 16" wheels, mainly for comfort & less pothole damage. If you prefer looks over comfort with a firmer ride then go for larger alloys.
  16. It's full of stuff, including some emergency kit (McCoys Salt & Vinegar crisps, of course) and suchlike. Plus enough tapes to travel the world with a soundtrack lol.
  17. Larger wheels = lower profile tyres = harder ride. Depends if your priority is aesthetics or comfort.
  18. Took the Blue pill and updated the firmware of the MIB2 Columbus unit in Gandalf today. Thanks to @varooom's guidance. The headunit had no issues, but I just wanted to update it cause newer is always better, plus there is a TPI for it - 2047101/6. No noticeable changes really, but it does feel slightly more responsive. Could also b placebo effect too....
  19. Just be careful when making adjustments to the wiper arm at the spindle. Each time the wiper stops, it parks at a different position when the car is turned off. This is to prevent it from sticking and leaving marks at the same spot over n over. It's designed to do that. i.e. if u alter the bottom position, the top position may not necessarily alter the same way or amount. Thanks to my dirty not washed car, u can see how far from the edge it gets to.
  20. Should be available, but you might need to give them TPI number to find it.
  21. I first had ACC 7 years ago, initially I was frustrated when it started to slow down a long way behind a slower vehicle, but now I just take over the accelerator to maintain speed (or slow down gently) and use the extra time it gives me to pull out and overtake safely. Compared to CC on busy British roads it's a game changer IMHO, and I never want to go back to CC again.
  22. Much more about the fact that VW is not competing in the EV world very well, when measured against TESLA and even SAIC / MG. It must be a dilemma, produce EVs when you lose money on every one so therefore cut back but not fully getting in to the EV "game" probably means oblivion after 2030. They must be preparing to beg the EU for protectionist measures as although Asia and North America is being lost they could at least keep some presence in European, excluding those non-EU countries like Norway and of course Russia where buyers of Audis, BMWs, Mercs etc are now buying Chinese brands in big numbers.
  23. The 41M vehicles, maybe 35M registered cars is one stat, and not even 1M EVs but it is the miles they travel, the energy and fuel they use. Couple of years old now but the article below states EV drivers do more miles than ICE drivers and we know many ICE cars are older cars drivers keep for occasional use and not work horses. Most importantly is the transfer over of van drivers and even truck to EV propulsion as those are the guys and girls doing big miles. As I do around 30k miles per year I thought it important that I have a full EV in my stable and it is doing well over its 6k miles I contracted for, sadly my Hybrid Arkana is probably doing more than twice that but then, I see from the onboard computer that about 20% of those miles are without the accelerator peddle being pressed and therefore mostly in coast mode with the ICE not running. I like to call it "Gravity Assist". https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/electric-vehicles-news/what-range-anxiety-ev-drivers-rack-up-more-miles-than-those-using-tradition/#:~:text=The average EV covers 391,the idea of going green. So it is less about absolute numbers and more about miles travelled. I love to see those lovely older ICE cars and doing a few hundred miles or a couple of thousand is now biggy. It is us high milers doing tens of thousands a year, last mile distribution and us salesmen and women going to EV, even if only a couple or maybe 5 or 10 millions is key and not the other 30M or so. Other part we need to do is to move our hydrocarbon boilers to heat pump tech and that is equally important as to removing ICE vehicles from the road to getting the UK's carbon figure much lower down than it's current trajectory to do our bit for the world and delay hitting the higher temperature point and the consequential weather problems.
  24. Still too many big heavy cars being Bought / Leased / First Registered and getting Tax Breaks from UK Tax Payers, many of who can not afford a car or a new car. HMRC / Government need to stop encouraging Business,s / Companies to have vehicles running about for their employees or management that are bigger / heavier than required just because management need prestige cars. 'Commercial Travellers' REPS as they used to be called, and people that drive long distances regularly for work out of cities do deserve comfort and reliability and range. (EDIT) Giving them some of the Bigger / Most expensive EV,s does not mean they are getting the most efficient EV,s requiring least charging stops. ....................................... 25. I'm showing these pics to my OH as she thinks my car is untidy 🤣
  26. Infotainment system is faster to respond, no crashes, AA works flawlessly (If you DON'T have a VPN active), climate control seems to be a bit colder when you set it low (could be a placebo effect). Just a generally better experience altogether, which is how it should have been in the first place.

Bartek short shifter and solid cable end bushes fitted. Wish I'd done this sooner, such a difference.
  28. That reminds me to cancel my booking,
  29. @gogiii Might be a good idea to view this one forum post and keep discussion in a single place. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/477657-amundsen-mib2-firmware-update/?do=findComment&comment=5768616
  30. The apps are all updated as well and I regularly check Google Play/Galaxy Store. I'll try that suggestion with engineering. Please be advised this might be a AA more then a Car/Phone, see the AA forum post here: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/213805120/hands-free-phone-disconnect?hl=en
  31. This happened to me yesterday and then this morning three resets. I’ve never had issues like this until today. just so happened i was on my way to the dealer for a different repair. I told them about the reset and they said they’ll update me next week to a “very new update” usually they dismiss me about updates and say it’s not due any. I’m on 1889.
  32. Welcome. No idea but someone in the know might be along. I see roof bars with a max 60 kg load and ones with a 75 kg max. Skoda has the max load for the roof as 50 kg. So bars and roof tent, lightest roof tent about 50 kg. How heavy is the person / persons getting up there? I see a Fjordsen Van 220. http://fjordsen.com/rooftop-tents/light-140
  33. Looking nice and tidy. Good luck with the electric rear windows. I looked into doing it on my Fab years ago but decided it wasn't worth the hassle
  34. Wow... I didn't know Viagra was necessary to make SW update... And... How was it? 🤣
  35. I successfully installed 1941 this evening (rather than trying to convince the dealer to do it next month). I'll be driving this weekend and hopefully it will be restart free. Thank you @varooom , I feel happy that it will resolve one of my 2 remaining problems (displaying KPH is my one remaining issue) but also sad that I won't need to frequent the forums as much! For those who are yet to install, a few errors came up during my install, SOS and park distance control, but the update applied successfully. Just be patient with it.
  36. Don’t see why not. The gearbox sump casing will be pretty close to the oil temperature.
  37. There's a chance, albeit it very slim that the dealer does not have it... it is not released to all Countries at the same time, but usually not that far behind. Yes you can install at your own risk. It is the SAME firmware that the dealer would apply anyway, it is untouched. So if you still want I can send you a link, and you can decided to install or not.
  38. Hello,When i bought my fabia it was like you recieved. No service book, was told it is a digital record.Being an old timer i prefer a hard copy of services. After purchasing my book ,i asked my dealer to fill it in at first service, which they did .On handover i felt they wanted me away as soon as possible, info was very sparse .What they filled in was just the pdi and when it was done.So you are not alone on info from dealer.Cheers Andy
  39. Thanks @varooom, I'm now in 1941 ! 🥳
  40. The volume control seems to work on whichever sound is active at the time. So, if your radio is the only sound source then the volume affects the radio. If the call ringer is active then the volume affects the call ringer. If your reversing warning is on then the volume affects that and so on. It's kind of intuitive when you realise but not when you are looking for a specific setting to do this !
  41. @skomaz As we know with this Government, the agencies like the DVLA, or organisations like the Office for national statistics, or the SMMT or RAC is that it is pick a number any number. It might have been 780,000 Registered / On the roads, it might be a million now, it might be more. The number is growing and maybe less are being crashed or scrapped as there are ICE vehicles that are part of the 41 million. ***If really almost a 1/4 First registered in the UK were really BEV,s that would be lots, but if they were actual EV,s and that includes Hybrids / PHEV,s then they need liquid fuel. *** There are lots of EV Light Commercials going on the roads with Fleets. Also PHEV,s. CALLING MILD HYBRIDS & PHEVS EV,s IS KIDOLOGY. Actual deception IMO.
  42. That is why I said to loosen the nut a couple of threads, no need to remove the arm but if you do then heed your warning.
  43. Its not false, the ABS sensor is giving an incorrect reading, either over or under the correct RPM, most likely the former, the simple logic of the TPMS system shows this as a tyre pressure problem with that wheel. You need to replace the sensor before you have further problems with ABS, ESP etc. I hadn't seen the replys on page 2 when posting the above, I am out of here now. On peut pas faire boire un âne qui n'a pas soif.

Phoenix orange is a great colour 👍
  45. I'm just rounding out this thread by saying I eventually got Hankook 4S2 fitted. No dealer / online supplier could get me 4 Hankooks, the best any could do was 3. These were obviously the only three in the country in my size. I did cast about a bit for alternatives and came close to getting Bridgestone WeatherControls as I had these on my previous big car (Karoq) and found them to be very good. The Bridgestones were a good price from Costco, but logistics / life got in the way of me getting to Costco for a few weeks. I got fed up and asked local fitter to check for Hankook availability again, hey presto plenty of stock but in a warehouse somewhere, so Hankook must have imported a load. I've just had them fitted this morning and they look good on, not quite as fat as the Bridgestone Ecopia they replace but actually seem to sit on the rim better. A few miles show very little in handling differences (once I set the tyre pressures correctly!) so happy with my choice so far. I'm expecting a bit of hit in fuel consumption, but that is not significant given the mileage this little car does. Winter is a long way off yet to really test them but I'm happy to have replaced the disintegrating tyres.
  46. Thank you for all the kind words. Ross (tech1e) asked me to post the pics on the Facebook group "Fabia Owners Club" and the response was great from all the people on there. First big show is "Rollhard", I didn't think the Fabia would be interesting enough for them to have on display, especially considering the level of other modified cars but here we are... Looks like it'll be on display on Sunday 6th August at Bicester Heritage. Can't wait.
  47. If it's an adapter which has more than one lead or port, it won't be. I've tried to use one, the way the system is programmed doesn't allow hubs to be used, which is rather pathetic IMO. I bought a 16gb usb c drive for £10 or £12, just for this purpose.
  48. There's no mechanism to retract the starter pinion. However, iirc, there should be interlock that prevents you from cranking, until the key is reset to 0.
