  1. Small update - better than none I guess! 300 miles into the running in period and it's going kind of ok. Got a slight issue with limp mode at times, plugged VCDS in and it's pointing to the MAP sensor being at fault, so some investigative work is needed there. I have my suspicions that the wiring to the MAP sensor is too tight, and it'll pulled the connector and damaged it, not uncommon with the alloy boost pipes as it does move the sensor somewhat further away from the original location. I've bought a new 4 pin terminal/connector for the MAP sensor which comes pre-pinned with 150mm of wiring so i'll extend the loom to hopefully reduce the strain on the connector. Then i'll try it and see how it goes. Could well be that a new MAP sensor is indeed required as well, but for now i'll do the cheaper option. Rollhard Show - Bicester Heritage - Hmm, went to the show, displayed the car but didn't really "get" the whole show tbh. I know it's probably down to my age, but the majority of cars there were all Air-Bagged with massive rims. That seemed to be the flavour of the day. Left at lunchtime as it did nothing for me. I think i'll focus more on local stuff from now on, plus the next Skodafest get together next year. I did fit a new sticker, not normally a fan of stickers but the colour matched the car - The Hesketh Racing Superbear!

Road trip to Wellington and back, Rusty performed well. I took the Azev wheels down for a guy who said he wanted to buy them then he ghosted me so I brought them back again! Stayed in a cottage in the middle of Nga Manu bird sanctuary which was awesome! Also brought back a Ford Courier gearbox which has done 250,000km less than the one in my ute Extra lowering demonstrated here:
  3. Glorious at Clumber park yesterday......
  4. Have you found a single piece of information that tells you it is possible...? If you do get an answer, and it is anything other than "Off-Road mode is only available on 4x4 variants", I will be amazed.
  5. I had a Chinese starter once. It was prawn crackers.

Up to now my Octavia has been very reliable (apart from rear wiper motor), it's the main components I've took the warranty out for, too. I don't see it to be a lot of cash to spend, considering what you actually get for your money & how much your car was worth. I rung Skoda up to ask how much a years extended warranty would be alone, then my servicing on top, £400. So the all in warranty is certainly better value for money. As far as I can see it's for cars aged 3-6. Mine being 4.5 years old, now. As I've said I'll do my own brakes or anything else that doesn't directly effect the extended warranty.
  7. If you're replacing the sensor then you can cut the wire off and use a proper deep impact socket that won't spring open and twist off. I only ever use the special 22mm socket for refitting a new sensor with a lead on it, for removal I always cut the lead off and use the big rattle gun with loads of penetrant soaked in.
  8. Fair result on the Zoe, I will take the 9 seconds to 60 mph, the top speed I suspect is wrong as they probably did not have enough room as 82 mph/ 132 kph is low as 140 kph, 87 mph is what is quoted. I seen 90 mph and I will set it up with GPS speed measurement. Zoe is the range king, or should that be queen and carrying around that big battery has its penalties but I am happy with it overall. Wait out my remaining two years and then the Renault 5 should be in full swing to go along with a TESLA Highland 3.
  9. Thanks guys, left car at dealer today. This time it is hw problem, probably gonna change display. New unit btw, changed maybe 3 months ago for nothing, when rebooting was an issue.
  10. Yes, the cap should be vented, well spotted, a good fix for a very rare problem.
  11. Just to update on this one, in case it helps someone else. Worked through Rich's comprehensive list (thanks again for this Rich) and drew a complete blank. However, whilst it was up in the air with the wheels off, I could see the pads were back slightly from the discs. I got my lad to press the brake pedal and could see that the pistons moved correctly, and pushed the pads on to the discs correctly, but when he released the pedal the pads were pulling back again, a few mm from the discs. This rang alarm bells, as they should stay put, and could only be pulling back if there was a "vacuum" in the master-cylinder reservoir. I took the cap off the reservoir, and got the lad to put the brake pedal to the floor and when he released it the pads stayed where they were and didn't pull back. I've replaced the cap now, and driven the car some thirty-odd miles and the knocking is completely gone, and the pedal also feels better, as the first part of the pedal travel is not now being used up sending the rear pads back into contact with the discs. I can only assume that as the new pads and discs (about nine months ago) have worn that the air above the brake fluid has not been replaced, causing a vacuum in the reservoir/master-cylinder, that pulls the pistons back in. I doubt it was down to anything the garage did when they changed the calipers, pads and discs for me, as they would have had to have bled it all afterwards - which would have necessitated taking the cap off to refill the fluid. So I can only assume that the cap should be vented, in order to allow air in to account for wear, but mine must be blocked or faulty in some way. Anyway, I'll see if the problem returns as the pads wear further.....
  12. Even the Fire specialist journalist misses out detail ie they say " At the height of the fire, eight engines were in attendance, and a total of six buses were on fire – two electric-hybrid, and four diesel-powered." One presumes the two electric hybrid might be diesel hybrids but they could LNG hybrid or even hydrogen fuel cell hybrids but I thought TfL only had a half dozen of those as I use to deal with sending the fuel cell back to Canada to be refurbed every so often, like a decoke I gather. Nearly all case, I suspect, are poor maintenance, somebody doing something silly like placing a strong heater to dry something out in a place they should not or maybe sabotage ? US has over 100 firemen a year convicted of starting fires according to CBS article.... https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/fires-set-by-firefighters-a-long-standing-problem-experts-say-1.3563183 An arson expert based in California says firefighter arson is a recognized, ongoing problem, but it's difficult to know exactly how common it is because authorities don't keep records. Edward Nordskog's comments come in the wake of a 19-year-old volunteer firefighter being charged on Saturday with 18 counts of arson, for a spate of suspicious fires in and around the town of Mayerthorpe, Alta. The fires included a massive blaze that destroyed the CN trestle bridge. Lawson Schalm, son of a former town mayor, is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Stony Plain provincial court on Wednesday. Nordskog said he tracks serial arson cases. "There's roughly 100 firefighter arsonists convicted every year in North America and all of them are serial arsonists, which means three or more fires," Nordskog said Monday in a telephone interview.
  13. Another night when my EV did not combust,, thanks the Lord. Also two large lithium, one actually lithium iron phosphate to be precise, charged overnight, neither exploded. Four smaller 100 to 400 wh lithium chargers did not explode and one power bank of around 30wh. Nor did any of the 4 family lithium battery phones or two tablets. 750w 36v e-Scooter with the 3 12v lithium batteries survived the night as well. Sure I have missed out several lithium devices. Took my lithium last night and feeling happy this morning. (Not really but this element does have multiple uses.)
  14. Hello I leave you a video that I made about my travel experience with an Octavia MK4, it was 780 kilometers one way and another 780 kilometers back! Consumption is in KM/L, it is our measure here in Chile, but translated into l/100km, the consumption for the outbound was 5.26 and the return 5.5 if the calculations do not fail me. I would appreciate it if you can like and subscribe to support the channel! First episode second episode
  15. I think I may have to take it out for DSG peace of mind mainly. I'm not worried about shocks etc, I've recently changed the fronts and the top mounts as the had both given up the ghost at 37k 😳 I'll continue to do an interim oil change myself and the same with brakes. This thread has given me some good advice 👍
  16. Check the condition of the brake vacuum line all the way from brake servo reservoir to inlet manifold, check for splits at ends and junctions and loose fit. May not be the cause but its quick and easy to check and the hard plastic piping is often split at that age, causing fuel mixture issues and potentially brake assistance issues.
  17. There are a fair few threads on this forum around the timing belt. Basically they should be inspected every 160k miles but Skoda UK thought it should be 4 years/60k miles. Some dealerships do, however, acknowledge the Citigo is unique with the 'longlife' timing belt but some don't through ignorance, not being advised by Skoda UK or to just take your hard earned cash!
  18. "most references still say 5,000 miles" Sorry - just realised, in the post above, I meant to say 5 years, not 5k miles
  19. Sadly my 7.5p per kWH tariff goes on the 16th of September and with the Zoe doing 4.5 miles per Kwh it is chuffing economic. As I said the home chargers are about 90% efficient so a battery full of 52 kWh for the Zoe would have taken about 57 kWh of power from the house at £4.28 and that would give me about 230 miles of range so about 1.86 pence per mile. Just booking my B service with the Zoe which is about half the price of an ICE car service, as was the A service. From 17th of September I will be paying 9.5p for my night time rate so a massive 27% increase but by day time rate is falling from 40p per kWh to 29 p per kWh with Octopus so happy days. LEcky and gas £300 in credit, standing order £125 per month even with charging an EV for 7.5k miles per year, happy days. Good to hear residual values are bouncing back strongly now as dropping to half value in 2 years was a bit shocking but it seems many drivers are seeing the economic sense of an EV in running costs, if they can buy them for a bit less than an new or newish ICE car, particularly as a second car or runaround, unless a TESLA which can do it all of course, charge cheaper, is safer etc etc.
  20. Yes, they do light up depending on the regen intensity: (snapshot from Formentor's User Manual, but it's al the same VAG hybrid system)
  21. Back on point I was on the m/way with three electric cars together and none of them spontaneously caught fire. When rapid charging no cars there caught fire either. I did see the charred remains of what looked like an ICE van in a parking bay though, which was being removed.
  22. Thanks for all the helpful replies on this. I did as it happen consult DIAGNOSTICS & REPAIRS | SatNav Systems as their website suggests they are the experts in this kind of thing, and they replied (confirming what I think we have already concluded) as follows: The Traffic/TMC (Traffic Message Channel) stopped working on VAG Group cars as of 28th February 2023 due to the licence not being renewed. We are not aware of any workarounds to get TMC on the Columbus/RNS-510 any longer so the only way to get live traffic is on your Smartphone using an App such as Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps They actually work far better than the TMC used to! I think I have now drawn a blank.
  23. It was in fact a misunderstanding on my part. Didn't realise he was talking about the one on the bottom row.
  24. Skoda dealers are fully aware of it, so should do it FOC if the car is under warranty and it shouldn't take hours either, it should take about 45m or so, if you do it yourself it'll take about 15-20m to do. Albeit it won't have any manuals on it for a while, which it will receive via an OTA update, plus one or two others usually.
  25. Road trip prep...
  26. It lives! Smoked out the place but it is going. Don't know if I said this before but I've had both gauges plugged in and while both work, the sdi cluster sets off the immobiliser, obviously. Not sure which gauge set I prefer. Either way I'd like to set the miles to be accurate to the chassis. So the 196xxx the sdi gauges read instead of the 216xxx on the vRS gauges. Rear suspension in fully now and rear lines connected. Don't particularly trust 20 year old fittings even though the lines themselves don't look their age. Using VanhireBoys rear springs as they're perfect for this. Very noticeable difference in these springs vs the ones that came on the vRS. Fk ones with adjusters. They'll be perfect for what I want. I don't like low cars and the height it was at before was perfect for me. It will definitely be lower now with all the extra weight on the nose but hopefully not too much. Front and rear brakes aren't installed as of yet but I may try get it on the ground for the first time in a while next day.
  27. @Newton_Durham - Well, if "enter brain" says to get the Octavia then the choice is clear; buy the Superb!
  28. On the Kodiaq, there are three different front brake sizes. 16" rims will clear the front brake calipers on all front brake disc sizes, except the biggest 340x30mm front brake discs which need at least 17" rims. Kodiaq front brake sizes 312x25mm (16" rims will clear the front brake calipers) 314x30mm (16" rims will clear the front brake calipers) 340x30mm (17" rims will clear the front brake calipers) Note that 16" wheels aren't approved by Skoda for fitment to the Kodiaq. However, with almost 6" of sidewall the 215/70R16 tyre size could prove useful for going off-road/muddy tracks, etc. Vredestein Quatrac 6 215/70R16 100H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m139b0s12700p201645/Vredestein_Tyres_All_Season_Car_Vredestein_Quatrac_6_215_70_R16_100H_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_C_Wet_Grip%3A_B_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_71dB Yokohama Geolandar AT G015 215/70R16 100H https://www.camskill.co.uk/m62b0s13231p148267/Yokohama_Tyres_Car_Yokohama_Geolandar_AT_G015_215_70_R16_100H_RPB_TL_Fuel_Eff_%3A_E_Wet_Grip%3A_C_NoiseClass%3A_B_Noise%3A_70dB Alcar 9922 6.5Jx16 ET33 5/112 57.1 steel rim (from 2007-2016 VW Tiguan) https://www.oponeo.pl/felga-stalowa/alcar-kfz-9922#23375120
  29. Just minimise burning stuff (re wood buner and bon fire)...... we ought to be past that by now 🙄
  30. The hardware is often shared within a group, however it doesn't necessarily mean that you will experience the same issues on an Audi or VW, I was dreading getting my car with all of the posts regarding software problems. Yet when my car arrived it performed faultlessly bar one occasion when the infotainment system went into a loop and wouldn't respond, then came a download and the reboot issue arose, but since I grasped the nettle and updated the system with 1941, I've not had any issues or problems whatsoever. Been a couple more downloads and no problems still. So make of that what you want, but I'd give them the chance to completely replace it and see what happens with it. Keep Skoda CS advised that it has been replaced and will be back in contact should it fail again.
  31. @haz0r @stripy007 @tomiss @Dillers @AdiKX @florian_ @SvenIngvarsson check your inboxes. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS on page 26 kindly put up by @TheWanderer
  32. More than 3000km using 1941 and Carplay navigation so far, not a single reboot.
  33. Never noticed that, but I don't have navigation activated anyway, it costs almost 400€ and android wireless with Waze is free. If it was a lot cheaper i'd love to have it but definitely not when it costs 1/3 of my monthly income when i have free alternatives.
  34. Bit the bullet and started the update 10 minutes or so ago, started panicking a bit because it stayed for like 7 minutes with only a "back" button on the screen and nothing else, so instead of just biting the bullet, I was sweating bullets instead now, but the proper upgrade screen appeared and its now on the black screen after the first line went to 100%. Feels like updating a computer bios, after all these years they still give me horrid mini anxiety attacks whenever something stops for more than a minute 😅
  35. I am still running 1889 with no probs . I just had this OTA update No problems
  36. Today i received update to 1941 by dealership in Slovenia. I had showed them TPI and they said that they have this TPI also and that they will update it and we will see if there will be any random reboots.
  37. 1804 is on the list of supported upgrade paths in the TPI, you should be good. 20-30 users have already updated successfully and haven't heard of any failed installs so far. But as usual, everything you do is on your own risk. I'm sending you a PM with the link.
  38. Well I had no reply to @skodauk on twitter getting them to sort the problem for everyone. Thanks to vroom, and the 1941 update I've had no reboots for 3 days. Simple install took less than 30 minutes and carried out while cleaning the car. Thanks again.
  39. Happy to report that 1804 update to 1941 is successful. took about 25min as well. gave the car a deep sleep for 2 hours. tested all, all is good. thanks @varooom for his time, advice and support!
  40. Oh, you know those guys so well!!! I'm scheduled for the update at the dealership next week, and the guy was warning me it will take 3-4 hours... I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or feel insulted... Not sure if they're lying to their clients or if they're Simply not-Clever.
  41. I can confirm, - that SW 1941 is available at swedish dealers - as several already have pointed out, that dealers won't apply software updates during a normal service unless the customer provides them with a list of experienced issues which they then can try to match to available TPIs.* Just asking the dealer "Are there any software updates available to my car" will most likely result in the dealer telling you "No" eventhough there are software updates available.** - that dealers will ask you for evidence as proof of the claimed issues and, when you have evidence, will question whether the evidence you're providing is actually from your car. Though explaining the obvious to them usually helps, i.e. that several issues occur during driving, randomly (i.e. can't be reproduced at will) and lasts for a short while so to try to use your phone to record the issue is close to impossible and even illegal while driving in some countries.*** *I don't blame the dealers for this. I've heard from several dealers that the morons at Skoda Sweden are against the proactive roll out of new software. Their reason being that it can cause new issues. I won't go into the level of stupidity, immaturity and lack of responsibility behind such a statement. **Neither do I blame the dealers for this. They search for available updates for your specific car in the system they've been provided with by Skoda and that system tells the dealer that there are no updates eventhough there are updates available. My guess is that the reason for this is probably that Skoda never had or have long ago lost control over what cars may be affected by what bugs so they are likely not capable of matching software updates to a specific car. ***Neither do I blame the dealers for this. Obviously the morons at Skoda Sweden are behind this. If your car is still under warranty then the dealers have to ask Skoda Sweden for payment for their work associated with installing the software. The dealers are then being questioned by the cowards at Skoda Sweden (the people making decisions at Skoda Sweden hide behind their first-line support instructed to always refer the customer to the dealers) which in turn results in the dealers posing the same questions to the customers. Thus the dealers are getting badwill as they are forced to ask stupid and accusing questions. The issues regarding the software are, in my opinion, as bad as or even worse than "dieselgate". In a previous post someone mentioned suing the car companies. I haven't heard anything about any legal action being taken against any of the car companies due to the release of poor (and frankly dangerous) software. Anyone heard anything? After my warranty expires I will be furious if I will be forced to pay for any software updates related to fixing bugs in the system (or "security updates" to features that don't belong in a car to start with).
  42. Infotainment system is faster to respond, no crashes, AA works flawlessly (If you DON'T have a VPN active), climate control seems to be a bit colder when you set it low (could be a placebo effect). Just a generally better experience altogether, which is how it should have been in the first place.
  43. Hi everyone, I also received and installed the Varooom file yesterday, it is a Dutch vehicle and the update works perfectly. Thanks again Varooom. Grtz from Belgium, Ben.
  44. Looks a bit like it's been cracked during a clumsy previous removal, then someone's tried to melt it with a soldering iron tip to re-fuse the cracked plastic.
  45. 1 point
Would be awesome if somebody makes a tutorial of how to install those bulbs. Definetelly looks much more modern
  46. Try unlocking the car then just open the front passenger door, see if it re-locks after a short time as if you hadn't opened any doors. Repeat for each rear door in turn if the car passes that test. If it does re-lock, the door open switch on that door isn't working reliably. On our Fabia, the fault was a solder joint rather than the microswitch, but you may as well change any that you visit, as well as checking solder joints very carefully. Both the re-locking fault and the random locking/unlocking whilst on the move have been resolved since that joint was fixed.
