  1. Hello, Been a lurker on this forum for a while, but after tuning my superb, decided to share my experience with the GPF version, since I have not seen many of those here. Performance modifications done to the car: do88 intercooler revo cone intake GPF-back 3” exhaust with resonator delete and aftermarket backboxes revo stage 2 gpf ECU (which honestly in my eyes is a high torque stage1, I was planning on going for TVS ECU but due to circumstances that didnt pan out) TVS stage 2+ TCU Exterior mods: debadging the car painting skoda badge to match car aftermarket wheels Japan Racing JR42 eibach lowering springs Brake calipers painted red(not sure if this is a “mod” but mentioning it anyway) I now finally have dragy times after tuning so I can make the post. I cannot find stock dragy times currently, but I will look more to see if I can find them. Stock times: 0-100 accel 5.18sec 1/4 mile 13.38sec After tune: 0-100 accel 4.28sec 1/4 mile 12.47sec These results are on pump gas 98RON. All in all I am very happy with the results, can is much more agile and responsive. Gearbox feels a lot smoother and I like the shift points better as well. I was averaging around 12L/100km before on purely town driving (I have an aggressive driving style) and now it is about 13L/100km, so not that big of an increase. On highway I used to get high 6 or low 7 per 100km, after tune I got 7.5L/100km. To finish it off guess I can put some pics of the car/mods.
  2. So.... when I had to part with my beloved T4 camper (much sobbing) and get something smaller, cheaper at the pumps and less err...dieselly, I of course got a Roomster (as you do). Ever since, I have pretended it is a T4. With just enough success to maintain the fantasy. (Liftout rear seats being the #1 decision criteria in choosing a Roomster, and avoiding low profile tyres the #1 reason to avoid the Scout variant - but oh my! - I could do with roof rails.) I now have liftout ply floor panels with different fixtures depending on the task in hand. Fully loaded, it has a kitchen, cupboards, worksurfaces, cooker, sink, water tank, waste tank, wardrobe, toilet, bed. A tailgate shelter made from bits of a defunct camping tent is pretty useful. A different floor panel secures racking for when we are on family camping. Project in hand is making a sectional plywood boat to slip into the back. Boat will have wheels (retracting a la undercarriage) and towable behind my folding bike. Its proving reliable - which I put down to giving it the care as and when it needs at my local independant specialist. Its not particularly fast, but I'll square up against a Ferrari any day. YES! Put us both on the start line of the standard quarter mile, and when those lights hit green, you'll see who is the first to cook up an omelette! Go Roomster! Thanks for entry to the forums. Paul (in Malmesbury)
  3. Yes! If it is loosing coolant then it'll likely overheat and possibly cause permanent engine damage... Coolant tank is circled below. Might be worth ringing local Skoda/Seat/VW/Audi dealers to see if anyone has some premixed G12 evo you can buy today.
  4. The coolant light should never come on. Check the coolant level and top up with correctly mixed G12 Evo as required, if the level drops again you likely have a leak. When the AC is on it will dehumidify the air which aids in demisting 👍
  5. Just for reference, this is all covered in the owners manual. If you have got one, you can download a copy from: https://manual.skoda-auto.com/210/en-GB/models That's not strictly true. The owners manual clearly states: "If water other than distilled (demineralised) water is used, then have the coolant replaced by a specialist garage - there is a risk of engine damage". If you haven't got distilled water, I'd still with my earlier recommendation of pre-mixed G12 evo from any VAG group dealer. Relevant section from a 2018 version:
  6. That surely is only because there has never been any real incentive for the ICE designers to do anything else. No legal or governmental pressure has been applied to them. Governments have been perfectly happy to keep taking the massive taxation that has been applied to oil and as long as the money was rolling in, why would they wish to disrupt it. The only real times the ICE designers ever really made great strides in the engine performance has been in F1 and at times when there has been an oil crisis which forced them to look at increasing economies. I suspect that big oil has invested very heavily in the EV side of things, especially on the battery side of things as they can see the opportunity to make billions with far fewer people involved, therefore even greater profits, no oil refineries, no great oil tankers required, maybe easier extraction of the required minerals, follow the money. It is all to easy to swallow the stuff we are all being told about the EV being a magic bullet and the answer to the planet's problems, but is it? If we all had to live with the mines used for extraction of the rare minerals for the batteries and all the toxic waste and poisoned water supplies as result of the toxic lakes, the hazardous living conditions that people in those areas have to endure, the poverty, poor wages paid to the workers, even young children etc, would we still think that the EV's were a good thing? These are the side effects of EV's that we and most people do not get to see or have to put up with all we ever get to see are the good side of things and is this not just really a massive case NIMBY syndrome?? Man created the climate change, man could also reverse the change, but the problem there is of course no commercial gain to be had from doing so, once again we are back to the money. Even if there were zero toxins coming from the adoption of EV's, it will not cure the climate change, it will still be there. What we need to do as a planet is to restore the forests, make the planet as a whole far greener with actual growing plants, that will convert CO2 into oxygen. Also develop processes that actually take CO2 out of the atmosphere and restore the ozone layer, yes it would cost money and nobody would be able to make a profit from such actions, but we need to stop the relentless pursuit of amassing as much wealth as it is possible and locking it away in various tax heavens that the top few elites love to do. Maybe if they had paid their fair share of taxes over the years, their taxes could have been used for the purposes of tackling reversing the damage we as a species has done.
  7. For those asking, here are some photos. The units are in and out in around 10 minutes and separate on lift off hinges.
  8. It is a useful feature if the car has been parked a while in the sun - you can get a little ventilation through before getting in.
  9. That is what 2 million quid and 1,914 bhp gets you then. Danny Padrosa,s face just so funny when in the car.. This is very non showroom spec and surprises me it could do under 10 minutes. But then it will not have had only 184 ps and running with the 2 regen setting .
  10. Ten minutes. Ha! I could do zat in a van.
  11. Many thanks all for your support, very reassuring. Just got 1L of pre mix at VW dealer just before they closed and topped up to halfway between Min and Mac líne. Phew. Friday evening, can relax now and drive stress free. Thanks again all.
  12. I can only imagine Skoda are getting confused between high beam assist and matrix headlights.... I've never heard of high beam assist needing a specific headlight, all it does is turn the high/main beam on and off
  13. 11 months old & 4 new tyres? How many miles?
  14. Quite the reverse; the ECON(omy) setting turns the A/C OFF when active.
  15. Had a new windscreen fitted this morning as a stone hit it a couple of weeks ago and broke it. This month the car has had a variable service, four new tyres plus the windscreen - hope that lot keeps it going for a while, it's still only 11 months old.
  16. J.R. Thx for reference to the Klepper folding kayak. I'm aiming to make something with a bit more beam. Based on plans from Duckworks.
  17. You leave the British Isles by ferry do you not, so not that far by road from Kent. Funnily people across the channel drive EV,s and many will do it for fun & cover long distances.
  18. US has had minimum MPG targets/fines for cars made or imported since Jimmy Carter and the Arab oil economic power struggles of the seventies. Eventually the only way to stop over using gas was limiting vehicles to the double nickel ie 55 mph, effectively 60 mph with tolerance. Do that reduces tax intake of course. TESLA, as usual, has the right idea, build a car with a aero drag coefficient of around 0.2, make the most efficient drive train, good regen tech. Same applies to EV or ICE. Fuel efficiency, as the speed, costs money hence we have £20k plus for a "basic" car.
  19. Best get someone to look then because not the best idea to be setting off having not checked. only 200 km i hope and not 200,000 You have a Owners Manual, sadly you do not do checks of your vehicle it seems, ask a friend to look, someone that knows even the basics of cars. I hope your tyre pressures are checked, the TPMS reset, the spare wheel pressure set & the tools there including the locking wheel nut socket, the windscreen washer bottle topped up etc. PS At least dip the oil cold and see there is oil, it should be checked hot though / at normal operating temperature. No guarantee from the Full Service it had enough oil in.
  20. Thanks guys. At the moment if I opened the bonnet I would not know where to look regarding coolant. I am due to drive 200k tonight and 200k tomorrow evening, prior commitments I can't miss. Is it a bad idea driving on a coolant warning light?
  21. @boardtcWhat engine? How many km done? When you opened the bonnet and looked at the coolant where did it show between MIN & MAX? Did you ever look after the Dealer Full Service and see if they had filled it too MAX. An error often as it often sets it,s own level. If there was a FILL TO THIS LEVEL. They would put that on the reservoir / bottle.
  22. So whilst the phase out date for ICE cars is now 2035, there has been no change to the zero emissions mandate for the percentage of cars that manufacturers must sell that are zero emissions. If that's the case then it seems to me that nothing has really changed much? Whilst it will still be theoretically possible to buy a new ICE car in 2035 I guess the likelihood is that almost everyone will be forced into an EV long before then due to manufacturers not wanting to sell anything else. Are we likely to see ICE cars artificially inflated in price from next year? Quite likely I think - especially with a fine of £15k per car on the line for selling more than your allowance!
  23. Yes I do this in the Zoe now and then. Particularly when the battery is 90% to 100% full and regen does not work full, nowhere for regen to go. Just slot the gear shift lever in to N, keep hand on the shifter lever and pop back in to Drive/B mode when needed. Zoe is single gear, some cars have two gears, that gear give max torque from about 1500 revs which is about 12 mph hence the good acceleration, 0-30 in three point two seconds but the motor maximum spin revs is 11k revs which is "only" an indicated 90 mph. So a bit weird compare to my Arkana's 7 speed EDC gearbox but Zoe single gear works pretty well, it actually has a clutch apparently but it does not feel like a ICE clutch and it is totally under the control of the car's electronics but it feels like the clutch is disengaged and one is free wheeling when in N on the gearstick but rolling along at 30, 50, 70 or 90 mph indicated. At 100 mph the dashboard shouts the electric motor is over revving as seen on Zoe ZE 50 doing a lap on the Nürburgring, 9 min 30 second in. Think coasting in neutral helps give an extra few miles range. seo

21st century cars need very little “Running In” special treatment. Simply don’t Flog It or Slog It. You can’t take a DSG car to the engine Rev limiter like we used to do with manuals many years ago. I always found it interesting whether a car had a hard or soft cut out at the Rev limit in lower gears. Similarly, a DSG will drop a gear when it wants do. Unless you’re over-riding manually. Just load up and enjoy the drive. You might want to check the fluids occasionally just to make sure it’s not using any. I like to check fluids and tyres quite frequently on any vehicle “new to me” then less frequently once I get to know how the vehicle behaves.
  25. I can vouch for the TVS full package. Dsg stage 2 plus and the stage 2 as they call it map. Mapped to run 98 octane. It’s bloody quick and smooth. 380bhp 550nm RL turbo elbow, muffler delete, coil packs, r600. GFB dv+ lowered on h&r and koni special actives with 12mm spacers all round.
  26. Lovely end to the day earlier (and a couple of photos taken at the deep with an iPhone 13)
  27. Carrying two bikes on a towbar carrier is far better from a fuel economy point of view, and also seems less noisy. I carried two bikes that way on holidays all over France very successfully - except when an impatient Italian driver nudged a bike wheel trying to push onto a ferry, and I had to get it straightened when I got home. I already had the towbar on that car to tow a dinghy. Bikes on a roof rack are noisier and hit your fuel consumption at higher speeds - and are also a pain to lift up and down! But I did it for years when I changed cars and no longer needed a towbar for my dinghy. I would not trust a bike rack fixed to the hatch, and think that they are officially discouraged due to the risk of damaging the plastic wing on the top of it. Chris
  28. I doubt you could or @lol-lol but then maybe you are a very good driver. EDIT, Aaa i see humour! Clarkson did it in the Jag and then Sabine did in the Jag and then there was the van challenge.

That was no use whatsoever then.

That's probably a full shutdown of a cylinder (or more), to prevent unburnt fuel causing trouble with emissions kit downstream. Pass all this info to Skoda when you do speak to them, it might mean the car should be uplifted there rather than driven there. How far away is dealership?
  31. Yea, so for pre-gpf it would be stage1 since stage2 would require a downpipe swap(but if I remember correctly revo quotes gpf stage 2 same as pre-gpf stage 2, so you might get a little bit less power, though I dont know what the reality of that is, since just saying it does not make it true). Stage 1 vs At first I wanted to get TVS stage 1(disregard the stage 2 text, they have their own "tiers" it is actually a stage 1 since no mods are required), since they offer a bit more torque and horsepower. But then the dealer close to me stopped working with TVS so my option was to get Revo, which is also good. Image for your car, just for comparison. I cannot vouch for TVS ECU on superb, but 2 of my colleagues run it on their golfs, one R and one GTI and they are very happy. Yeah, I am still happy with how the JR42's look and I have not seen anyone else with these in my country yet, let alone the town. Just running 19x8.5 ET35 should be fine, I had no rubbing whatsoever with that setup. Having 5mm more on the rear might be fine also, but since I have not tested that, I cant vouch for it. If you feel like taking the chance for a better fitment, could try going ET30 (if they even offer it).
  32. @philipashbyi charge weekly at the airport or at Broxburn and sometimes in town. They talk a good game but really Edinburgh is almost the worst, but 1st place goes jointly to Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire.
  33. He said 98RON and quoting L/100 so I'm guessing either Aus or Ireland? Update: Whoops RHD LHD so wrong on both counts

You can sit with the engine idling and end up getting an Engine / Exhaust emissions light come on. It really is no biggy. Are you using E10 or E5 just now and is the car doing a few miles from each cold start? The next thing is that the TSI,s have a GPF, not much of an issue being reported yet with 3 or 4 year old cars but time will tell as time passes and maybe with cars not doing many miles. A GPF gets cleaned out differently from a DPF at a different heat and when the car is off the accelerator.

I'm hoping it's something easily diagnosed by them. Only had the warranty now for just over a month, if it had been under a month, I would have not been able to make a claim. Rung my local dealership up to book in for an diagnostic, sorry we are too bust to talk, someone will ring you later. Thanks for your help.

That any good? Also pic from rear of engine cover.
  37. That must be based on 4.3 miles a kWh. So even if it had 85 kWh usable which it has not and gets 4 miles per kWh it would be 340 miles it gets. So if the true 82 kWh usable and 3.7 mile per kWh it is going to be 303 miles maybe. 3.5 miles a kWh 287 miles. The use of WLTP for BEV,s is just 'Simply not clever',
  38. The new MY24 will start building in Week 44 and according to Skoda the WLTP will be 354 and a top speed of 112 MPH. https://www.skoda.co.uk/news/details/new-skoda-enyaq-laurin-and-klement-extended-range-and-comprehensive-technical-upgrades (Not my image)

If you ask us to speculate on what may be the cause, it might be helpful if you answer any questions that could help?
  40. In my view it depends how often it will be used. I certainly wouldn’t want to faff about removing seats or bits of the bike other than for occasional use. I routinely have my bike on the car three times a week which is why I specified the (admittedly fairly expensive) tow bar on my 2019 1.5 Tsi Karoq. No regrets here….
  41. Thanks for confirming. They've ordered a new one now, but it's on 'backorder' so will take 6 weeks to arrive. Oh well, hopefully they will actually do it. I'll keep this thread updated.
  42. As expected - Columbus MIB1, no CANTON, so yu either must have it repaired or retrofit MIB2 unit (Amundsen or Columbus). If you are interested in retrofit then pls contact me on PM.

I heard that Saudi was refining Russian crude which I did not know they did and there is reports that this one million barrel a day cut by Saudi is disproportionately hitting diesel prices rather petrol due to the heavier specific gravity giving more diesel than petrol hence we are seeing again the divergence in the pump price of the two fuels. Wall Street Journal earlier this month.... https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/stock-market-today-dow-jones-09-05-2023/card/diesel-fuel-prices-harder-hit-by-saudi-arabia-russia-production-cuts-ExaqjHU1NFAaf9mTLfYl The price of diesel fuel used in trucks has been rising faster than regular gas—and that trend is likely to continue. On Tuesday, crude oil rallied after Saudi Arabia and Russia said they're extending their oil production cuts. Diesel fuel surged even more. Russian and Middle Eastern crudes tend to be heavier and yield more diesel, jet and marine fuel than U.S. shale oil, which is lighter and more prone to producing products like gasoline. It's why OPEC production cuts and Western sanctions on Russian crude oil have had an outsized impact on those heavier fuels.
  44. A towbar is a hell of an expence just to carry 2 cycles. Thought a rear door cycle carrier would serve the same purpose? In the past I had a Saris Bones cycle carrier which was excellent. You say you trialled carrying bikes with the rear seats folded. Why isn't that a viable option? What model of Karoq do you have? Easy Peasy solution if you have the flex seating - you either just remove one seat or fully fold the base upwards. ( I had flex seating ). I never tried carrying the bike in the karoq with just the rear backrest folded but don't see why that should be an issue. I now carry the bike inside the Kodiaq - fork mount on shaped plank of wood does the trick. Could easily carry two bikes if I wanted.
  45. There has been a fair number of years now with 1.4 TSI & 1.4 TSI ACT with Cam belts to know if there is a failure rate. Globally. So a known known. (EDIT, Enough years of 1.4 TSI with timing chain / tensioner issues & denials.) Just a few more years and that will apply to 1.5 TSI & 1.5 TSI ACT,s. At present VW Group seem to be happy that owners can suck it and see.
  46. Yep. Using a topdon. I have been watching it decline over the past 3 years. When the reading drops below 430 amps on a 680 battery it says “ replace “. It has been telling me to replace intermittently over the past 3 years. However during the summer on hot days I miraculously have a “ Good Battery”. i think these testers condemn a battery too soon. They only give you an idea of the batteries health. Results can differ a lot with temperature. My battery is now reading 375-380 amps with a replace message at 15 degrees C . Sometimes the starter does sound sluggish and in cold weather i do get errors beeping on the dash on a cold morning start. The funny thing is for most part the start stop works fine. But last winter it was limited. It worked fine all summer. From my experience AGM’s die a very slow death.

Just for an update. Car was 100% a sprint yellow car. Paint had seen better days. Cars had a fresh respray. Currently still off the road. But here she is !
  48. There never was a requirement just their recommendation in the UK. There are threads in about every section since this change came about in July. It does not mean everyone with a keeper will not have a Cam Belt and tensioner replaced if they think it needs doing.
  49. Latest project completed on Gandalf - added ambient lighting to the inside of the door pockets, so I can actually see wat stuff is in there. Wiring is piggy backed off the door warning light, so it turns on and off with the door open/close. All 4 door pockets now have ambient lighting 😁
