What? The rear window heating has nothing to do with the mirrors. Only the position of the above switch is of any importance.
  2. Why is your concern only regarding Outback Farmers, they will be the last people in the world to be reliant on public charging, they will already be keeping their fuel tanks topped off, carrying spares, wheels, tools, water and survival equipment. They will do exactly the same when they have EV's to maximise their savings from the free solar energy They also know how to walk and protect themselves from natural hazards. Its the numpties living in flats etc with no home charging, those that frequently run out of petrol and diesel and then call the breakdown services that are at risk, Darwin in action, pun intended. Good to see you have some self awareness.
  3. How long do you think those tanks will keep a farm working? In the outback you say? So plenty of sunlight or wind available in Australia
  4. How do petrol stations operate without electricity or refineries etc etc
  5. AFAIK the 1.4TSI Octavia 3 never had an engine cover in its Skoda form - the only cover I could find was a VW one - so I'm not sure that's the reasin an engine cover is fitted.
  6. Holy crap, VW group had millions of peopleat head risk when millions of engine covers were recalled and then there are the 1.0 & 1.5 TSI on lighter weight cars with maybe bonnets more liable to have heads hit engine tops and they have reduced the size of engine covers. We will ignore thew 1.2 TSI / MPI,s and the likes with no covers. Vorsprung Durch Technik.
  7. My 2014 Rapid has never had an engine cover AFAIK.
  8. The engine "breathes" through the air intake, not the top of the cam cover.... 😄
  9. Not for the garage, its a real money earner! You are feeling depressed and suicidal, we need to run a diagnostic, it will cost £135 refunded if a fault is found. Sorry no fault found and the manufacturer will not contribute, you can't have your money back. About as ridiculous a scenario as booking a car in for a diagnostic on suspension. I love the way the garages try to abdicate their responsibility under consumer law by giving a warranty (actually paid for by the mug punter) which simply brings in money for unnecessary diagnostic checks and leaves the customer blaming the warranty company, and how the pigeons swallow it. 😒

As above its nowt to do with rear window just turn on at switch as i originally said, should be standard on a vrs mines got em .
  11. I can't be sure but I think the furring is caused by a reaction between the alloy wheels and the steel hub and the wheel bolts. I forgot to add that I believe it's the same reaction that causes alloys to stick firmly to the hubs hence why @Warrior193 and myself use a smear of copper grease. I never bother with it when I put my winter steelies on.
  12. So possibly a ban on the sale of Petrol & Diesels in 2035 like in the EU / UK. Well they just need to keep their ICE vehicles running, or buy new before the sales stop. That should see them OK until 2050 or later, or until WW III or end of the life as we know it.
  13. FFS, its not about keeping a farm going, its about survival in a natural disaster like an out of control wildfire, or do you really want to people to be burnt alive because their EV car does not have a full charge? It has zero to do with the day-to-day functionality and life, can you not see that??? Edit; The size of the tanks in the photo I used is not meant to be typical of the size used for large farms, just an illustration of what I was talking about, fuel tanks with no electric pumps for dispensing fuel into vehicles, tractors and the like.
  14. Hi and welcome back. if you email me your old email address I can merge the old and new together Colin at briskoda.net
  15. Start with a phone call, I find its the best route.
  16. Australians beware. Grangemouth Refinery has it,s own power station and uses the electricity of a large town or even a city. It uses oil and gas to generate electricity to operating the cracking plant to process oil. I had not seen this before. Lots of work needing doing and Main Dealerships to be avoided like the plague.

  18. On my last car which was a nightmare (an RS), I resorted to calling the customer service department directly and occasionally emailing as well. I found that it worked quite well as you got a confirmation email from them regarding your conversation and and if they tried to deny it you had a email record of it.
  19. Unless you have DCC the whole suspension system is purely mechanical so there are no electronic diagnostics! So running a diagnostic scan would be a total waste of time and money.
  20. Welcome. Not sure what you require, is it a rear lower wishbone suspension arms? I will bump the thread. 'subframe corrosion' I know nothing about Yeti,s and parts.
  21. When I go to these events, gates open normally at 8:00am and there will already be about a mile queue waiting for them to open, parking on the airfield and then going through security checking and being searched, and your camera equipment examined etc can also take up to an hour, through 4 separate gateways across the airfield, with up to around 5 queues at each security gate, can you gauge just how many people and cars turn up at these events. Then you have about 1 to 2 mile walking once past security to reach a decent spot on the crowd line for photography purposes. Flying starts at 10:00am and even when arriving at the gates about 7:00am after a 2-hour drive, you can still be clearing the security checks at 9:30. So is a 5;00am an early enough start for you? I already am an early bird in order to catch that worm Flying stops at about 5:30pm, and then you have to return to your car, and it can then take an hour or more to exit the airfield. So by the time you get on the road, rush hour traffic has gone, so you normally take the same 2-hour drive home. So I take a comfort break on the airfield and let the others fight their way out of the jams. Now if they could somehow set up about a thousand destination chargers on the airfield, then EV's could be charging while the show is on. Trying to get onto a charger on the way home, from the event is going to be difficult within a large radius of the event as many others will desperate to also charge. Until they can either greatly enhance the range from an EV, or the infrastructure is significantly expanded and enhanced, EVs will struggle. To give you a flavour of the size of these events, RIAT attracts over 200,000 spectators and these are only the officially counted one who brought tickets. There are many locations dotted around the edge of these airfields that become temporary camping sites and loads of people camp there and view through the fence, or just rock up, park on these campsites and view the display without going onto the airfield, so there could be many more thousands trying to get home.

Heated and folding were an option, yes. Electrically adjustable and heated only were standard.

I’d be stunned if you didn’t have heated mirrors. They were standard equipment on the VRs. https://www.roberteardley.co.uk/brochures/03-01-2018/octavia.pdf
  24. Hi, new here, but used to be here under an old account with a vRS in 2005. I'm just looking at recent Skodas and working out the chassis electronics overlap with the rest of the VAG/Porsche group. I'm also interested in Seat and VW. From 2016, the new longitudinal engine platforms introduced ethernet/DoIP. Initially Q7/Q8, Panamera, then Cayenne, Continental, Bentayga, Urus, B9 A4/A5, C8 A6/A7, D5 A8 etc. More recently the newest MQB transverse platforms also have ethernet/DoIP. I'll need to look at some wiring diagrams, but have any of you noticed or used ethernet/DoIP yet? Are there any Skodas with the MLBevo platform with longitudinal engines and where did the latest MQB (equivalent to Mk8 Golf) come in with Skoda? Finally, have you noticed which models have MG1, MD1 or MGD1 ECUs? Any with ZF 8 speeds? I'm not selling anything here, but the info might unlock a useful free and fast diagnostic tool that works on other VAG/Porsche vehicles with ethernet/DoIP. Thanks, John
  25. Before heading back, quickly check home battery. If not enough to recharge, pop to the nearest rapid charger. The key is, as always been, living off the land. In places with known unreliable power grid, solar and battery transforms people's living standards. EV can only add to this sense of freedom. Africa are making good use of their solar. Don't need the stinking grid. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2022/09/africa-solar-power-potential/ Imagine you have a mini diesel well at back of your garden and can top up your car with it for free.
  26. Read your warranty T&C,s. Is it not an authorised repairer that you need to contact about warranty repairs?
  27. Nobodies making people in Australia get EV,s anytime soon are they if they do not need or want them?
  28. I watch Outback Truckers. Amazeball stuff, the rains and the communities running out. Than goodness for solar and batteries and energy generated and stored. But they need diesel fuel right enough. WTF has it to do with the UK or cars coming in from China or anyplace far far away where they also have huge fires, or floods?
  29. Hi, ive only had it for a couple of months, so im no expert, and you never stop learning. I do quite a bit of rallying, so i understand the basics, its a good car to start off with, the only thing ill uprate are the pads and struts/shocks, mind you the headlights are a bit ****, so any tips would be gratefully received, thanks Terry.
  30. Exactly..no trim removal required..just a flat head screw driver. It will pop out..then unplug and replug new one. May be older model requires trim removal to replace it. but mine didn't
  31. Lots of engines use very little oil and little point comparing a 3.0TDI with a 2.0 TDI or even another 3.0 TDI IMO. Is it on Variable / Flexible servicing then and it get a litre in each year? then running it another year? How often has it needed oil over the 6 years you ran it before this year?
  32. There are comments on Honest John for Dipethane (presume same stuff) dating back to 2013 - most seem to consider it 'oil of snake variety' Main use would seem to be eliminating water in fuel - if that was an issue, Iso Alcohol would be cheaper.
  33. I've got a ttv4 coming off my 280 in a month or so. Being replaced with a ttv5. lol
  34. Swarco are the company who have just put in about 100 charge points at the Worcester University just across the severn in the western part of Worcester, it is where MuckMaster and Geoff nice but dim went to a few days ago, never have so many youtube minutes been filmed with so little actual worthwhile content though the Columbian coffee shop did look nice and more worth a trip over to see. Big question unanswered is do the charge points take contactless, American Express preferably ? I have one RFID card and that is the Electroverse/Octopus one. Do not want to get another one for any network. One card to rule them all (until I get a TESLA card of course).
  35. Ridiculous talking about Charge Place Scotland as a Network and no way is it owned by the Scottish Government. There are 32 Local Authorities in Scotland. There are chargers used from various manufacturers owned or on land from many owners not just councils. There is maintenance done by various companies. Currently SWARCO manage CPS on behalf of the Scottish Government, Tax Payers, Road Users. The Scottish Government throw money Transport Scotland,s way. A Government Agency. The give funding and grants for Hubs and Chargers, they do not own them. It is a horlicks. It is lots of millions going the way of some. SWARCO have a bit of a monopoly a BIG bit (Too much & needs investigating.) with the CPS contract just renewed, and then the e-Volt charger manufacturing and SWARCO Maintenance contracts. But Local Authorities can use Architects, then the Consultants & the contractors / Builders, Installers, Equipment Providers & Maintenance from wherever, If there are choices which there are not that many of. .......................... This is pretty much correct. & if Scotland had a good Mobile phone Network then SWARCO / CPS might have good communications with chargers compatible to LIVE In use, available, out of service. But they do not. Actually the Call Centre / Handlers are pretty useless when there is Communication issues between Broughty Ferry and a Charging Hub, even for a Customer / Drivers Mobile phone and Broughty Ferry. There are Charging Hubs / Chargers in locations with crap mobile reception. Then the blame the Car. These cars and bad for getting connected. All the guff gets given out. Shut the windows, lock the doors etc. Well it is P!ssing down, there are people in the car and and if the charger is not communicating say so and say move on. Or if the chargers has been reported day after day and week after week do not allow the Host to allow the maintenance to take the P!ss or not even contact maintenance. ? Who did back shop for BP Pulse (Polar) while they had the Contract, would that have been SWARCO? Yes. *** RFID cards cost £12.00, you can buy more than 1.***
  36. Yes, the mechanic said the brake lines and system checked and fluid renewed with a pressure system, it passed the mot but if the pedal is depressed slowly it will travel to almost floor, but stops the car. I am just not happy to press twice when braking, one day it may fail..
  37. I have a screen mounted DAB aeerial in my 2010 Yeti with an RNS315DAB Amundsen? unit which works well where there is a signal.
  38. I've got a disc to update fw. Hopefully that will do the job.
  39. Yup, long answers are good. I actually did a search myself at Febi. So, I figured it out. Both will do and both are within specs. I do believe that 75w-85 is just for MPG economics and 75w-90 is for better endurance... 🙂 Will use 75w-90 GL-5 on both diffs from now on. Downloaded Erwin updated manual as well, so now it is just do start reading and doing.
  40. This warning comes up when the steering lock pin is slightly jammed normally by the steering column being pushed up against the pin tight. a small wobble of the wheel is enough to clear it. if it doesn’t clean or unlock the column then the car will need further diagnosis by removing the column lock pin and motor and seeing what is binding it up causing high resistance on the pin. as a safety feature the car won’t start unless the column is 100% unlocked.
  41. It sounds like a problem I had many years ago with a Citroen CX. The pin that locked the steering jammed in place and wouldn't spring out of engagement when I tried to start the car. I cleared it then by turning the steering wheel first to the left and then to the right, putting the steering under load in each direction. You have to try both directions as it is not obvious which direction will relieve the pressure. Try to start the car in each position to test if the pin has been freed. It worked for me at the time after a cou[le of goes. Failing that you will have to take the load off the front of the car to allow free movement of the steering wheel. Best pf luck.
  42. Try this.... AAWireless 2023 I bought this and it works a treat Leave it plugged into the USB socket, load up the AA Wireless app and your phone automatically connects when you get in the car.
  43. All I can do is repeat myself. If your stock byte 18 is 00 (00000000) don't mess with it! The lighting configuration on this age of car is mostly contained within some 40-50 bytes in the BCM EEPROM. If you set byte 18 to a non zero value, it will overwrite this section of EEPROM with a new configuration. If your stock byte 18 is 00, this typically means that none of the byte 18 values contain the correct lighting configuration for your car and instead, the factory tool had to set the lighting configuration directly in the EEPROM. If you change it, you CANNOT get the original configuration back using VCDS as it's unable to directly access the EEPROM. Just as an example, the Yeti came with multiple lighting options which would require different configurations and yet there is only single byte 18 option for a Yeti. I would expect 1D is close to your original config but given your byte 18 is 00, it will not match it identically. As for 1C, I expect that just zero's the entire lighting config. It will not clear lighting fault codes... If you really want to mess with the lighting config, you need VCP or ODIS as they can backup the original config and allow targeted changes to each lighting channel. I have nothing more to add. You've been warned so good luck 👍
  44. Just to end this thread, in case anyone else has the same issue the new pump solved it. It's easy to replace, just remove the 17 million t25 screws to take out the arch liner, then unplug the old pump and the 2 washer hoses. Then repeat in reverse.
  45. I've got this one - it can be used directly (without adapter) inside the car, with the phone, but also with usb-A: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Kingston-DTDUO3C-128GB-DataTraveler-microDuo/dp/B01M59PHE4/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1KS0KWRMI1WIA&keywords=datatraveler+micro+duo+3c&qid=1687853878&sprefix=data+traveler+micro+duo+3c%2Caps%2C105&sr=8-6
