  1. Thanks for quick reply! Agree always a danger of being too precious about having perfection, given that a parking dings or worse can happen anytime. The good news is that the dealer's just called me, and the (off-site) bodyshop have said PDR is possible , probably with rooflining removed, and is the best solution/ their preferred option anyway. So all appears to have sorted itself out. Thanks Karl
  2. The suggestion you make about giving up driving are rather extreme .Whilst I accept the use of assistance systems are not everyone's choice , they are mine . All the numerous changes ,tweaks and attempts to foil the systems seem perverse to me . Therefore I shall continue to employ them to the full on my car .
  3. Cold and crisp at Rufford Park this evening 🥶
  4. Notwithstanding the somewhat asinine advice to throw away the car keys and take the bus I will continue to drive my car with all assistance systems in operation.
  5. The flexing seen is the plastic motor undertray. The battery are between the axels, but the flexing part is in front of the wheel. It is sort of cheating because the undertray breaks up most of the rock. An immovable object would indeed be the real test. Remember that tiny umbrella water stopper we previously talked about? Turns out it's tasty for rodents. https://www.speakev.com/threads/rodent-damage-to-battery-umbrella-valves.182343/ "Part cost £20 - damage incurred £13k…"
  6. I prefer to think of most of the driver assistance functions as a generally useful tool - but not for full reliance, as an assistance only - there will be occasions where the technology will get confused or misused, a case in point being the Tesla recall. Post crash mitigation braking is likely to be, potentially, the biggest life-saver. Seemingly, I am one of a very few who rate automatic idle stop as a useful feature, fag-packet calcs tell me that even a 10 second stop with engine idling makes a small but measurable increase in fuel consumption, not to mention the unnecessary emissions.

  8. Hi, i have 2010 superb. I have replaced my rns310 with mib std2 pq 5C0035680C. Got it from vw tiguan 2014, and got it converted to Skoda buttons & software. All the work was done by Pawel (pab567). Shipped it to him, he patched it and prepared all the cables and connectors for easy swap. Only fabrication on my side was to cut plastic ribbon deep in headunit bay and route the microphone and phone cables. Here are some photos. Really happy with the results. It cost me all together around 700€. Initial reactions: 0) plug & play. OEM experience. Since Pawel set up everything. Just connect cables and all works! 1) radio signal is better 2) audio quality is better 3) UI is not laggy, its good 4) can play spotify through bluetooth 5) apple carplay/android auto through wire at headrest 6) built navigation is much better 7) no other module was neeeded to be replaced. No need for coding. All just works, no need for vagcom. 8 ) Pawel supported and answered any question I had next steps: 1) clean the messy interrior 2) buy & install camera 3) cleanup final locations for microphone and phone connector in hand rest. I live in Latvia so it cost me around 35€ shipping to poland for every direction.
  9. I thought that could be the case too, but its already been changed 20k kms ago, dont think its already giving out and cant hear that typical sound on engine shutdown.

Likewise (well 39 years) and that includes driving a 32ft Winnebago but I can still see the benefits of having a camera...
  11. I think the batteries are very well protected, far better than the sumps of ICE vehicles, I also think there is a decent gap between what should be a sacrificial undertray and the battery case, also there will be some insulation between the cells and the casing, finally if a cell does get damaged it would show up because each cell or battery of cells (the correct term) is monitored. So I dont think there is any chance that the battery pack beneath the undershield in the photo with the 5mm reference shim and straight edge was damaged nor either of the two Hyundai batteries that they wanted $60k to replace, that is the scandal, that manufacturers are taking the easy, safe and above all remunerative choice and saying they have to be replaced. I bet most of our cars if they had aluminium flat floors would have a 5mm dent or scrape in them, Qwikfit will give you a pair of them whilst they are doing a supposed inspection to tell you that you need new brake discs and calipers, shock absorbers and 4 new tyres 😃. Yes, the vehicle is repairable salvage with no structural damage, no different to flood damage or door lock and steering lock broken from theft or cambelt failure.

By all means use your mirrors but there will still be a massive blind spot directly behind you that you cannot see - due to the car's bodywork. You could look at this area before reversing but it could easily be filled by something without your knowledge as you reverse (small child, perhaps a cat or dog that you also wouldn't see in your door mirrors. A reversing camera overcomes this issue and allows you to see everything you can see in the mirrors PLUS that blind spot directly behind you from the bumper back. I don't have a camera on our Kodiaq and am very very careful but do on our Swift and there is no doubt about it the camera does help from a safety point of view (even when reversing such a small car).
  13. Try putting some premium fuel in it.
  14. As a final note to this post. Many other types of touch screen units are available from cheap to expensive. However, be aware that a lot of the fitting kits DO NOT fit the newer Yetis. Most of the aftermarket units only list Yetis up to 2015. The 2017 Amundsen units are NOT compatible with 2015 fitting kits. Neither are manufacturers of replacement units very helpful because they simply don't want to be. It's now an old car. In the end we went for a Kenwood unit, and had it fitted. Rather that than a burned out dash which would, of course, have invalidated our insurance. So unless you really, really know what you are doing with modern vehicle electrics, my advice would be, get it fitted by a specialist. I've fitted many bog standard radios in my time, but these new systems are beyond me. Thank to all who gave advice. Bottom line is.... Skoda sold us a crap unit.
  15. Thx for your information, another satisfied customer

What do you mean by 'inconsistent'? It only works occasionally? It stops halfway? You need to be specific about the fault(s).
  17. I would expect to see in testing an EV underside hitting the likes of a boulder sticking out of the ground, as in an immovable object. Or a metal object like a man hole cover that had lifted.
  18. Hay, was joking. Also genuinely interested to watch the video.

Hello Phil My first foray into Skoda ownership was a V6 Superb (TDI). Smashing car and a great introduction to the brand. I'm unlikely to have a diesel again as I don't do the miles to warrant it. Agree with @Warrior193 - of the 1.4's I've driven, I've been impressed with how sprightly they can be 👍 Test drives a must, to get a feel for what you're driving. Gaz

Good morning Phil, I don't know what you were driving before, but I suggest taking a couple of test drives in likely-looking vehicles in dealers near you first. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the performance and economy of even a lowly 1.4 TSI.
  21. I am with you, a PDR specialist would normally be able to remove those dents without removing the headlining and without damaging the manufacturers paint but it depends where they are, on the edge of the roof where there is double skinning or above the bonnet bracing might not be so easy. I like your suggestion about accepting as is for a discount but bargain hard, negotiate in advance and on the day if they are worse than they claim say you are walking away and they will make a much better offer, the salesman will already have mentally spent his commission! My current car had so many minor dings and PDR repairs that it would have cost too much unless I found someone willing to work on a daily rate, I repaired and resprayed the worst (front wing) and pushed out the others where I could and just accepted it, it has been quite liberating to not beat myself up about subsequent scrapes caused by myself and others, had it been pristine it would have bugged me everytime I looked at the scars.
  22. Same problem here. The conversation with the dealer will now become much easier thanks to the info provided by @djmartzian. Reading the attached document provided by @djmartzian, makes me wonder what "Observe Service information: KESSY - key adaptation, instrument panel SW update 2040173/2!!!" is all about (page 3). And again, I find it extremely annoying that Skoda instructs dealers not to apply updates unless owners make specific complaints. They've known about this bug in their own software for a very long time (according to the document) but still the update was not installed when I had my car serviced approx. 4 months ago, just because I did not mention it. I thought this was one of the many issues that would be solved after the installation of 1941 (which was done by the dealer on my request at the last visit), but no no. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's my fault for forgetting to mention it at my last visit (the list I had with me was loooong but obviously not long enough). I knew from before that you have to make specific complaints. But, is this behavior actually legal? They've sold a faulty product. They have themselves investigated and documented that their own product is faulty. I'm paying them to service my car but they don't bother fixing what they know is faulty. I mean if several owners have had for example a problem with the same hose in the engine bay causing what Skoda deem to be a minor problem, and Skoda investigates and finds that the hose used in the manufacture of cars during year N is defective, then are they not obliged to replace that hose the next time an owner of a car manufactured year N pays to have hers/his car serviced at an authorized Skoda dealership?
  23. He will have to do like others and charge on a Tesla Super charger every couple of hundred miles maybe if he is near one or near on his travels. Or just other public charging & pay what that cost if he is not a business driver. At least he never bought his Tesla if it is leased. While charging he can maybe de-stress, read a book, listen to music. Maybe best not come on to BRISKODA though as that might get him worked up about not being able to drive the Tesla through water.
  24. When I was travelling in New Zealand I was given a WOF (Roadworthy test) failure Nissan Prairie that had been converted for camping, incredibly by the ex boyfriend of the girl I was seeing! He even gave me all the spares and let me use his garage and stay at his house while I fixed it up. Anyway when I registered it in my name it came with State 3rd party insurance cover, it was something like £40 a year in NZ dollars, an absolute bargain and a very equitable system, it did not seem to have harmed the insurance market, most people with decent cars took out fully comp policies in case they got run into by a cheapskate like myself 🤣 Elsewhere on this forum there is a newly qualified driver being rushed for £6K to insure his Fabia, in my country an insurer can only load the policy a maximum of 100% or 50% if they have taken a road safety course. As an example if my policy was €500 and I had the maximum ncb then I would pay €250, a young driver having just passed his test would pay €750 but the 50% increase drops to nothing over 3 years ad he also builds up NCB so he would pay €593 in year 2 and €425 in year 3. The NCB builds up slowly over 13 years to get to the maximum 50% so the young driver wont get to pay the same as any older driver with full NCB till he is 30 but critically he does not get penalised in the early years and very little after 3 accident free years, I think it is a very equitable system.
  25. Exactly - that's how I use mine. FWIW I find the amount of negative and cynical comments around assistance systems a bit disappointing. 6 things stick in my mind, and I look at it in this context: - The systems in my car are there for the benefit of others on the road, not just me. - If I were to lose consciousness behind the wheel, then LA and Auto Braking might lessen or even avoid possible disaster. Happened to a driver in my part of the world recently; heart attack, lost control, carnage. His earlier model car didn't have assistance systems much to the misfortune of others involved. - I mentioned previously that a friend of mine had a momentary lapse due to fatigue and the LA system in her car DID come to the rescue. - Modern assistance systems are just an updated safety contingency plan complementing seat belts, air bags and crumple zones. I'm happy to park my pride if it means modern tech will help out if I can't, even after 50 yrs of unblemished driving experience. - The incidence of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers on the road is a perennial problem. I just hope those idiots behind the wheel haven't turned their systems OFF... - Q. Would I be happy if the pilot of the A320 I'd just boarded announced that he preferred to fly 'old school' and turn the computers off? As for Stop/Start, who cares? Lane Keeping Assist & Auto Braking, thank you!
  26. Lovely afternoon at Clumber - mist descended at 4pm..............
  27. To end this matter, I have been to the dealer today and it appears the valeters incorrectly sprayed the wheel areas with a deep clean acidic product ahead of doing the Lifeshine protection, Autoglym helped backing me up with the dealer and now it is booked in for both front calipers and rear discs.. Thanks all for your comments..
  28. Uneconomic repair, no different to if you holed your sump & wrecked the engine, or perhaps a closer example, someone holed your fuel tank to steal the fuel and once again an ueconomic repair (a recent occurence) both Cat A markers in the UK, nothing in my country, both will be put back on the road by a Diyer. Insurance companies are not concerned about safety or risk, they just want to get the maximum back as salvage which will always be at least 40%, it costs them 60% less the excess based on an unfair valuation, the remainder of the policy is cancelled and they double the premium for the new vehicle, reaming you whilst smiling and saying you have protected NCB. My own Yeti could have been repaired and MOT'd for the cost of a couple of 1/4 watt resistors but I did the job properly with new airbags & seat belt pyros, if it happens again it will be the resistors! The vehicle with the 5mm scrape in the undertray will have it filled & painted or pulled out with spot welded keys if steel. I wont answer either of your questions as I now understand your game.

Welcome! We've had quite a few discussions about tyres for the Karoq here - even the 18's on ours are more than I'd like, our Tiguan we had before was on 17" wheels, which seemed perfect, and we drove it half the year on 16" winter tyres, which felt like driving on balloons!
  30. Wrong, That is completely different story - 1. content of these archives stopped refreshing several years ago. i checked them regularly for my previous 2016. Superb Mk3 20160609; 20161020; 20171123; 20180509; 20181213; 20200331; no more new releases 2. they are useless for Mib3 and all newer head unit devices, only Mib2 and Mib2H had functionality to upload logos individually for each favorite station. example of single logo update procedure: 3. upload procedure were different, for each station individually, this thread is about update whole built in database at once 4. individually uploaded by user were displayed smaller than from internal head unit database even identical files -> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/415291-columbus-radio-icons/ 5. one were better - individually upload method gave ability use whatever logo picture, even selfmade
  31. In the video he said Range between £30-40k He then specifically mentioned availability at £31k for the elx if he went to Rotherham on the day he looked. Those i posted are today for the ultimate. No idea why they have £9k off but they are not what i class as New because they are already built and here. Just looked at the new Korando can only be configured as Ultimate spec Which suggests New models must be in the offing so they may be disposing of old stock?
  32. Or temporarily disable systems that appear unable to properly handle prevailing conditions.
  33. Honest to God, you've included a smily face but forgive me for not seeing the funny side of it. We can all reverse cars, nobody NEEDS a camera to reverse, but it does act as an aid to assist reversing. With all the best will in the world, you cannot possibly see everything around your car when reversing. Why not google 'blind spot' and then think about apologising to those, who by implication, you've accused of not being able to reverse their cars.

  37. Hi Mate this is the cheapest quote without black box, I own the car and am the insured driver as both my parents have had insurance claims or points on license what not occupation I don’t think is an issue I’m a civil servant, I live in a decent area both my parents insurance isn’t cheap but isn’t near expensive as this I’m only 20 years old And yes any changes to the vehicle have been thrown out the window…

  39. I just changed mine. Super easy job. In and out of the garage in 30 min. Minimal fluid loss, didn’t even top up. If you can change your oil, you can do this! I found it easiest to remove the whole assembly with the thermostat and the two hoses connected to it and then changing the thermostat. Temperature went to 90 C in 15 minutes and stayed there, even in -12 C outside temperature. An astmathic could blow through the old one!
  40. @J.R.Maybe it was staged by the BBC but the main point I was making was that they claimed that their cars, especially R. Hs. car was not able to go any further because it lacked air (oxygen) to provide enough power to climb higher. Which I thought might explain why no car has ever done a pole to pole expedition before and hence why the EV was able to do it, not needing oxygen for the motive power unlike a ICE vehicle does. That was it, pure and simple.
  41. I've had several attempts again since posting my question above. I realised what I was doing wrong. When going through the process of remotely activating window down and up again I hadn't realised I needed to lift the window switch again for a few seconds until hearing a slight click. I hope this helps others. 🙂👍
  42. Ariel Atom @ Bo'ness. (I used to do the odd car shoot a few years ago in between model, portrait & wedding shoots.)
  43. We bought a 2020 Sportline 1.5dsg in May and within the first few weeks the 19in Vega rims and OEM Bridgestones had driven us up the wall, noisy and an all around pita. They picked up every bump and hole in the road, nightmare. Switched to Michelin CrossClimates, absolute revelation, far less noise and the ride improved immeasurably
  44. Bone stock L&K with 41kkms on it.
  45. You have a PM to read from your other post, good luck with update.
