  1. Hello, I strongly suggest getting the battery tested first - I have seen quite a few reports of TDIs reluctance to start, only to see the problem fixed when the failing battery was replaced. It seems that some TDIs are particularly sensitive to slower than normal cranking speeds.
  2. The ban on rear privacy glass is under review in Manchester at the moment so it's probably as well to hang on? The 10 year rule for existing PH holders is also 1st April 2026

Could well be saw-toothing of rear tyres. My 16 Superb did it and it sounded like a wheel bearing. Had an advisory on mot for wear on rear tyres and changed them. Noise gone
  4. Yes, I hate the idea of touch screens in cars, they are fine when stationary but even using the radio on mine while driving is a nightmare. Just changing a station the other day, the touch spot for the station I wanted is about 1 sq inch, when I went to do it, a pothole jarred through the car and instead of changing stations, the whole screen display was sent scrolling left. Never happens when you have actual buttons or knobs to interact with and the newer cars have almost all the controls done via the central screen. Its as that YouTuber that everyone berates says, (Geoff buys Cars) modern cars are just accidents waiting to happen, so too is having the speedo reading on the central screen and not in front of the drivers so they can keep their eyes on the road.
  5. The recommendation of 15 years/180,000 miles changed as of July of last year.
  6. Why are you looking at those dials on such roads, you can hear the revs and going up a mountain road in warm weather the engine may well get hot but that's normal, an occasional glance is fine but no need for more. When the needle is near or at 'H' or red it means the engine is hot not overheating, you will know your car dials and when to start being more vigilant. I had a car that would have the needle on the red and someone else with the same model new told me he drove all round France for a week with the needle on the red without issue, I will be honest and say I changed the fan thermoswitch as my car was an earlier model with slighter larger engine with only one fan and fibreglass bodies hold the engine heat plus these cars had two huge exhaust header gather tube boxes. I'd forgot the next video, it shows a Welsh mountain pass that even you definitely can't consider dangerous. 😉 -
  7. No, not under the bonnet, in wheel arch. At home only practical way to check is to jack up the car (as if you were going to change a wheel) then with wheel hanging down lift rubber gaiter on the big strut at top and look for coloured spacers). Don't need to undo or take off the wheel, just lift body on jack so can reach above wheel.
  8. Not an air show, but when I had the Corsa Electric and there was still plenty free charging I went to plenty events. Not paying for petrol or diesel paid for the Travelodge, Premier inn or Best Western. It was great being places early. In the diesel this time. 200 miles yesterday. 300 miles today. 450 miles tomorrow. Getting expensive these days. By next weekend will have done 1,100 miles and getting 47 mpg. No way would I mess about with passengers and charging when places to be and people to see. On my Jack Jones or with a passenger that is understanding of messing about to get charged it is ok. But not when. 69 pence or more a kWh. Tesla non Tesla charging is cheaper. I will never have a Tesla though. Or any car that needs the left hand using a touch screen.

yes, definitely fixed - no moving bits. they r used as "cornering lights", but unlike the headlights, they don't swivel. it just turns on the individual fog light on the turning side/direction.

Yes, DSG is TVS stage 3. Ive always been interested in modding my cars too, and this one was the only sensible thing in budget that could pull a caravan too. I still get 21mpg with the van on the back, and i can live with that. I can still get high 30's to the gallon, if i drive like the grandad.....that i am. The kids love it and i see no reason whatsoever to change it. If it breaks, fix it and carry on.
  11. The longest awaited iPhone feature is here, native iOS notifications, and we couldn't wait to ensure it is enabled for BRISKODA! Briskoda.net is iPhone push notification ready (now). This means you'll finally get notifications on your phone, even when you do not have your browser open, to alert you of new content on followed items and more. 12. Hi all. Registered here some time ago but that was a when I hoped for a Superb IV as a company car..... far too long a wait so I got a XC60 PHEV. VERY rapid and actual real world consumption was not at all bad. Fast forward a year, company take over, 85 years work experience for the same company walk out the door......3 people, I'm not that old! Decided to take a work break and semi retire. Needed a car though!! £20 Grand lighter and I now own a June 2020 1.5 SE Hatchback. Genuine mileage, full service history and immaculate. Did I mention under 1250 miles per year? I have questions but I'll use the search before I annoy too many people. Then, it will be a man search, I'll ask them any way! Thanks for reading.
  13. picked up a 2018 SE with a 1.4TSI Auto today, what a nice car on the motorway Ok so doesn't have all the toys but who cares ;o) new mats & bootliner on order along with a SINOSMART reverse cam which will get fitted once I get back from Scotland first week in march (presuming its come in from China by then) along with my dashcam (although I may do the front one this weekend and leave the rear until i get the reverse cam). Also ordered some black badges to replace the chrome ones, no particular reason lol Will also need to sort out a dog guard & luggage divider sometime, quite like this travall setup. Anyways odd how the perspective makes it look small compared to the GFs Ioniq!!
  14. This all stuff the mechanic should have done or checked when cleaning and replacing rear brake parts.
  15. I haven't driven manual for about that long either! The non RS models here (like mine) have the 8sp auto torque converter trans, so they're all automatic, but not all are DSG.
  16. The bottom article does indeed not say non-EV are being banned. However, the CleanTechnia article does have this quote: "“A decision has been made that automobiles cannot enter Ethiopia unless they are electric ones,” stated Sime." The below 2 article confirms that no more import license are granted for non-EV from Feb 2024 onwards: https://research.hktdc.com/en/article/MTYxNzc4NzU5NQ https://techpoint.africa/2024/02/08/ethiopia-ban-importation-fuel-powered-cars/ Expensive importing fossil fuel is certainly a good enough reason to go full EV. Renewable electricity removes all geo-political problems associated with constantly needing to import fossil fuel. Look, I'm not going to get into completely pointless "my event is bigger than yours". But I did take a trip down memory lane, I visited in Aug 2013: I use my iPhone 12 mini in the same way as my EV's. I have wireless charger around the house and at office. I see it dip below 50% I pop onto wireless charger for a bit. I try to stay out of 100% area and always above 20%. It's been over 3 years since I got it, 120%-200% daily battery usage, so must be over 1500 cycles by now. Still 86% health and battery lasts more than long enough for me between times away from charger. If I'm heading out for whole day, I'll just bring a small power bank. EV is the same, little and often. Get into habit of plug it in. It's super easy, barely an inconvenience.
  17. Sounds perfectly feasible, I think that a lot of phone batteries suffer because people charge them overnight to 100% so that they last the whole net day and then pop them on charge again at night. Many people complain about their phone having poor battery life after only months of use, and this would explain the reason for it.

I didn’t get any paperwork either with my either so called them to confirm. The lady on the phone took my reg and checked, yes, 3 years cover still including europe and she confirmed they don’t issue the plastic cards anymore.
  19. You need to enable the Carplay & Android Auto menu entries via coding.
  20. I'm looking for the codes to do the coding for the rear camera. I installed a camera but it doesn't work. The camera is this: https://it.aliexpress.com/item/4000230897829.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.5bd0582fjNvuBw&gatewayAdapt=glo2ita
  21. nta16. Thanks for your input. I was merely making an observation about the battery in the Fabia compared to my Mokka, but having received some rather cryptic, strange, comments, I posted no more. Anyway, the battery is what it is. Seems to be holding up well on my trickle, sorry 'smart' charger, so all is good. Had the car for 9 months, but only driven it a few miles over last 6 months, so less than 500 miles on clock. Hopefully be driving it a bit more soon. Maybe showing my age, but does seem to be some strange people on this Skoda forum!
  22. The firmware is the "software" that manages the unit. It is hard codded in it and can be upgraded to solve issues
  23. Well, I'm now stuck without codes beyond that I'd have said "change your garage" if the old one wasn't refusing to work further on the car. Also, not asking for a postal address, but some sort of hint as to your location would help with recommending a new garage.
  24. Here we go ECE 370 2024/2025 Mib2 high: I use the Russian link you gave me @BooBoo124 as above taking the second link in the page: http://map.audi-mib.ru/ Namely the Mega link for release 370 not Yandex that needed Russian mobile number. The Mega hint if you don't have a paid bandwidth is to use a VPN. Every time it says you have exceeded your allowance or wait 5hr, change IP address and hit refresh 😉 . The file has two links at the top to promote their web site. Ignore them. The materiel is signed with an SLA1 signature so can't be edited unless you are a member of five eyes on something so it's not modded and cant be from when it was sewn up by the manufacturers. We dont have to worry about that. The file has grown by 0.2gb from the last release. I did check some areas before and after and indeed this is an update to the geography. Got more roads in it. As mused I reckon with connect services they probably got production down to a fine art so this one is laying about from the freeze cut off in November. I've seen November named else where for this probably based on the mibsolution link. Dates are when they wrote this to the file, not Audi on this. This would normally ship in June 2024. The Russian page says next update December. Think they have their maths wrong. December if official but they will get it September 🤣. I'll be using this. Did the demo navigation run, fine. Inrix TMC works fine. No issues.
  25. The retrofit should be possible but to give you some idea, the kit for a Golf in Germany is being advertised between 900 - 1000 Euro. And that's before fitting. These guys should be able to advise for UK owners https://eastyorkshireretrofits.co.uk/
  26. If you decide to use the link above would you mind posting the result please. I'm also looking to activate Smartlink in my 2016 Octavia. I rang the local dealer and they wanted £162 and hadn't got any in stock, when I asked, any what in stock, the guy said that he thought the way to activate Smartlink was by putting a sim card into the head unit and they were on a long back order from Ukraine.I have always been under the impression the dealer had to do some coding. I then rang the dealer where I bought my car from and they replied that they had no info for activation in Octavias because Octavias don't have Smartlink, every other skoda but not them. Since VAG stopped the TMC service I've had a phone on the windscreen running Waze just for live updates on the route but really would like to use the screen in the infotainment unit. Cheers

By the differing opinions, driving style and the way people react to situations is obviously playing a part. There is also the subtleties that @SurreyJohn mentions feeding in to it all. Whats clear is, the lag exists and is an unusual and undesirable thing to have when you need to take advantage of gaps in the traffic that are smaller than desirable but about as large as traffic conditions permit. I'm going to concentrate a lttl more on the 'clever trickery' 😜 for a while and see how that goes.
  28. Its much more likely its an ignition problem. Just because your spark plugs were changed 27k ago doesnt rule them out. Sudden and intermittent 2 cylinder operation is very often just ignition. Coil pack or plug. Fuelling issues would throw other errors, injector blockages are rarely intermittent. You cleared historic errors which didn't come back, only the misfires
  29. Hi sheriff, thank you for that I have just checked and would you credit it it is Euro 6, so thank you I have just got a years reprieve as it is not ten years old yet so can stay on as a taxi thank you
  30. Probably the top mounted filter on the older 1.4tsi 122ps EA111 engine fitted up to 2015 Looks like this Not your filter
  31. Mann supply most of the VAG branded oil filter in the dealer network. They are a major OE supplier to the factories. Since my recent experiences with Bosch (brakes, oil filters etc) I'd recommend you avoid them. They don't manufacture them just rebrand third party aftermarket suppliers, some recent bosch filters made in France have incorrect part nos, they may fit but are not the correct part for the engine. https://catalog.mann-filter.com/EU/eng
  32. Latest BMW I9 operating system
  33. They should self adjust straight away. Press firmly on the footbrake and pull the lever a few times. If unsuccessful then check the cables under the tray behind the handbrake lever. If the T bar is badly skewed, one of the handbrake cables may be stretched or broken. Or one of the adjuster wedges are stuck. If you take the wheel off you can try adjusting manually by pushing the wedge down with a suitable screwdriver through a bolt hole on the drum. (Hole positioned offside approx at 1 oclock and nearside at 11 o'clock positions) adjust until brakes just touching the drum and back off a bit. Then recheck the cables at the T bar are now more or less level.
  34. @Stonekeeper I got the MINI with almost no range because there was no way I was having a Chinese built new one. I wanted what they were now. No Speedo in front other than the optional heads up. (I have a heads up now and turned off.). Cloth dash and various other nonesense. I will buy one the last of the Clubmans if I am getting a car in 3 years or one to replace my Suzuki. The Countryman is horrible as well and I suspect the Aceman will be as well which is going to be a shame. Ps. Muppet reviewers should mention the right handed people and issues when right hand drive cars arrive.
  35. The new Mini cooper ev has air con controls on the touchscreen. So will you not upgrade when the time comes
  36. Thank you for your information. As it happens, one main dealer told me the timing belt and water pump needed replacement a year ago with mileage at 44,000kms. The dealer said that the coolant level had dropped and this was indicative of water pump failure. I did not proceed because I thought that at 40,000 kms to have to replace both timing belt and water pump at a cost in excess of €600 each, was an enormous expense for a low mileage car. So I bought a container of coolant, incase I needed it, hoped for the best on the timing belt with a view to doing it this year, and in the past year have driven 15,000 kms with no drop in coolant level, no overheating of the engine even on very long journeys, so I brought this to the attention of the dealer this year and he has refused to discuss it. Another dealer, the one I bought the car from, has confirmed my view on the water pump and is telling me that the timing belt is not due for replacement until 210,000kms or 10 ears whichever comes first. That is music to my ears. Much obliged for contributions. I think I have lost confidence now in the first dealer and will not use him again.
  37. When refuelling from empty i put the fuel cap into the handle so i don't have to hold it. It cuts off when full. But there isn't enough time to go for a coffee or the loo
  38. The market cooling is due to over supply of first group of longer range EV's as they come to end of lease, at the same time early adopters who really want EV's already got one by now. As you said. The general change of tide is still there, but the timeline may be no longer clear due to poor investment in charging infrastructure. As seen in last few posts, people are hesitant to jump in without having the assurance that it will all work just the way they are used to. Then there's unhelpful FUD going around, such as batteries only last 10 years or Toyota's "self charging" marketing and the delay tactic that consumers should wait for next best thing. Combined all will continue to prolong the adoption curve. Rapid charging for good EV's would certainly be shorter than nip to the loo for people from Norwich and Manchester. Because they only need a very small top up. Remember, plug in and go to the loo, unlike petrol station, don't need to hold the plug for it to charge.
  39. Coil pack no 1 failing Cylinder is disabled automatically after so many misfires are detected to stop unburnt petrol washing the bore and diluting the oil. Moving coil pack positions will confirm a faulty coil pack if the fault position moves with the pack. Remove and examine no.1 spark plug for obvious damage or failure.

After a number of years keeping our 2010 Peugeot 308 going, considering buying a new Kamiq to take us into retirement with hoepfully no car worries. Hope to utilise other members knowledge to confirm that this is a wise course of action.
  41. From Manchester, I'd charge around half way on return. if not Birmingham, it'd be https://electroverse.octopus.energy/map/location/1059727. Would be good to stretch legs halfway during a 3 hour drive. For Newcastle, I'd charge up somewhere around Birmingham on the way, then again on the way back. Or stay the night near Gloucester/Swindon. It's a 5 hour drive non-stop! For Norwich, charging is plentiful near Oxford and Milton Keynes. I don't expect anyone to do the 4 hours drive without at least stopping once. With any EV that can do 200+ miles, finding charge point really is no problem. This is speaking from experience, unlike 60 miles range Leaf, today's longer range EV's massively expands charging options. With everyone going different directions and have different destinations, there wouldn't be massive queues because just like fossil fuel, you don't top up next to a busy event. This is just common sense. But problem is, when people don't want to change, they don't seek out options and present something that they only do once a year as a barrier. Not having driveway charging is a very real barrier though, makes day-to-day usage difficult.

Unlike the manual, the DSG has bit of clever trickery. When stopped with foot firmly on the brake, if you ease the brake (ease the pedal, not lift foot off), it tells the car ready to go, and then you don't get any lag when switch foot to accelerator. From memory (my car is a 1.0tsi DSG, but not a Kamiq), if you use start-stop (I always turn it off after starting) this also makes car ready as does wobbling steering wheel by slightly turning it. The lag only happens if you from fully pressed brake pedal (staying stopped) to slamming foot down on accelerator really quickly, as if don't have any anticipation time between them.

Interesting comments re the amount of pressure drop needed to trigger the warning, ie 6 to 8 psi. The fact that my offending tyre was only 3 below the others (and possibly a bit less than that), and there has been no further reduction in pressure over the last few days, leads me to think that the warning was triggered either by a bit of debris on the tyre or sensor or a software glitch.
  44. Nothing to worry about that level, all my cars seem to sit at that level, even if I top them up to the max line, after a few weeks I find them back at that level. If I don't touch them they stay at that level without dropping further even after a couple of years.
  45. Firstly, like you, I'm not arguing, just pointing out inaccuracies of claims being made. Yes, both FCL and RIAT are 3-day events, and it should be no surprise that they are Friday, Saturday and Sunday and as Friday is a workday it will be the least supported day, that's logical. Its around the 150 mile trip for me to RIAT and unless I have something like your Tesla which for reasons already explained, would not be the case (£53k) so would possibly need to charge on the way there and again on the way back if I had a car like @Rootedmini, that would be the case. I already have to leave home at about 4:00am to get there just after the gates open. I certainly would not want to leave any earlier, or indeed stop for a charge on the way home as it is already quite late in the night by the time we get home. Compare that with my current car, I know I fill up the tank the night before, and I'm good for 600 - 700 miles so no need for stopping on the way home, once we have got off the base. So if we can only get tickets for the Sunday, not a problem with the range either as the following morning, I have to do another trip of 30+ miles taking my son to work for his 7:30am start. I also know from talking to other people at the show that they have driven down on the day from places like Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich etc and if they were driving an electric car could also be seeking somewhere close by to grab a charge, and this is just going to get worse as more electric cars are brought each year upto 2035, when all new cars will be electric. But hopefully by that time, the range will be greater and cars will be more affordable. If I was still working, it would be a Tesla sitting outside my house as it is a no brainer when the BIK is considered and that someone else is paying for the car and savings made on fuel costs would offset the BIK tax.
  46. The Roomster has either 256x22mm or 288x25mm front brake discs. If it has the smaller front brake discs then 14" rims will clear the front brake calipers. If it has the bigger front brake discs then 15" rims will clear the front brake calipers.
  47. I find it takes a substantial push on the horn button of my 2013 Elegance before it sounds so I think it is normal. Possibly becasue it sits in the middle of the wheel rather than on a stalk it requires some effort to sound the horn to prevent it being sounded accidentally.
  48. not as clean as some on here!
  49. Sadly that's not the first time this has been reported on here, and I very much doubt it will be the last. PDI checks do not seem to be carried out throughly enough by every dealer on every car, maybe time saving?
