  1. Im guessing the difference is marginal based on the rankings here being identical , both the 1.4 & 1.5 fall into the A category https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/emissions-data/compare-list/15740,17623
  2. Hopefully I can increase the potential buyer appeal for the the Altair wheels by suggesting that they will make a 'bog standard' Octavia look like a VRS 😊
  3. Made what turned out to be an inspired decision to stop off at East Midlands airport on the way home today and were treated to seeing both a Supermarine Spitfire and a P51 Mustang in the air 👌
  4. 120000km service done by myself this aftertnoon: - Engine oil change + oil filter remplacement - Air filter replacement - Cabin filter replacement - Front + rear wipers change + Air Quality Sensor replaced DSG6 service planned for tomorrow morning + system information to reset €248 for spare parts, without AQS.
  5. I've always understood the left column is front and the right is rear as the orientation of the sketch of the car above. I would suggest using the fully laden pressures should be selected.
  6. Stop start batteries are not designed to be fully charged. Usually only charged to 80% by the battery management system.
  7. 1 - Turn off cruise control and it will take its place at the bottom of the screen 2 - go into the cluster - trip - overview. Then press the right mouse wheel to cycle through since refuel, journey and forever.
  8. I checked my wife's car for another thread this spring(?) and it would be 90+c in 7-8 miles, I think (but can't remember for sure) this would be the same in winter, can't think why not. Not that I have to much faith in the sensors/programs/dash read outs given the outdoor temperature reading on the dash, they seem to suffer with solar radiation gain, at various times we play "guess what temperature the lying VW car says it is", who needs all this infotainment stuff.
  9. You are correct with regard to Electrify America. In Europe, incumbent manufacturers pooled together and part funded the Ionity network. https://ionity.eu/en/ionity/who-we-are Currently in UK, according to their network stats page, they have pitiful average of 7.4 chargers per location, just 33 locations. (32 in UK and 1 in Ireland) I think that's a poor effort considering it involves so many manufacturers. For comparison, Tesla supercharger in 2023 had average of 10 chargers per location, 110 locations. https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/electric/charging-network/tesla-supercharger/#:~:text=Back in 2020%2C Tesla installed, them – in over 110 locations.
  10. Electrify America was setup by VAG as part of its appeasement process with the US Government following dieselgate but that's a specific VAG thing. Wonder why there was never an Electrify EU network? (or was/is there and I blinked??) Anyways, generally speaking the EU is pushing for reductions in carbon emissions (which includes new vehicles of all engine types) as compared to 2021 figures rather the UK Governments blinkered insistence on Zero Emissions at the tail pipe by <insert latest current date> for all new vehicles sold in the UK
  11. But, 2016 and the Euro 6 from late 2015 on there were Implausible Test Results on 1.4 TSI / TFSI VW, Audi & SEAT. Skoda were not found to be at it in the same way. You had the 1.4 TSI ACT that was a different kettle of fish. Certification. The e- Golf 1.4 TSI & Audi A3 PHEV,s had suspect test results and were discontinued. Then the only VW Group that kept the 1.4 TSI without electrification was the SEAT Alhambra as a run out model. The Non ACT 1.4 TSI in other world regions get the 8 speed Auto and the WLTP does not matter there. Part of the World, just not World Wide Harmonisation crap.
  12. Ha I'm in the center of the island, a bit of trout here but I'm a farmers son, so lamb it is.
  13. I'm guessing u haven't read the very discussion u've just posted in!?!? Numerous posts in this discussion have mentioned about the hardware, power, canbus and coding components. This discussion topic is about how direct TPMS was retrofitted to a mk3 Superb. Yet u ask if anyone has done it, and if there r any details!! 🤦‍♂️
  14. A couple from Biddulph Grange today........
  15. There’s no doubt (Z)EVs have their place but the Government mandates are misplaced. Let the market decide.
  16. Yes, each to their own and as long as you like them that’s the main thing. But for me it just looks like a bog standard Octavia now rather than a VRS.

Have a word with your local 'Maker' centre to see if someone would 3D print one for you.
  18. Root, I did do that some years ago and it seemed to confirm the 4% optimistic assessment of the car's displayed figures.
  19. New Air Quality Sensor (5Q0907643F version) installed today. I hope it will last longer than the previous one. 🤨

No, on the EA211 engine (1.4 & 1.5 TSI) the water pump is on the opposite end of the engine so there is no need or benefit having it changed at the same time as the cambelt.
  21. It seems i can get a replacement pollen filter, a Mann FP26010 which is the Biofunctional version for £10. Much better than £44 at the dealers...
  22. I remember it being mentioned when i asked it a few services back. But i guess policy changes weekly... Notice there's a few different filter types mentioned to choose from. Particulate, Activated carbon, Biofunctional With the oil temp i do check that on the dash, its usually up around 70 / 80 after about 7 miles on the morning work run. It will be at 90 by the time I've got to work. I don't rag it anyway, but i do get the rev's up a few times to clear the tubes out.
  23. No, just your stealer trying it on with an upsell. In fact I'm pretty sure I've seen VAG advice to not do engine flushes when carrying out oil changes unless change periods have been neglected.
  24. I THINK the VAG Part Number for the jack that's provided if one chooses the spare-wheel option + tools is 2Q0011031E and is as shown in the photos above. The 'genuine' jack is certainly not cheap (and one need to check that the folding winding-handle is included as I'm pretty sure that has its own Part Number). Much cheaper scissor jacks (with equivalent or higher lifting capacity) are widely advertised, but the top of many of these has a slotted or flat 'plate' (examples on link below) rather than the central 'groove'. https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/product-category/accesories/ This might suit you as it's 'groovy', plus a wheel-brace is included. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wheels-Bits-Universal-Include-Hatchback/dp/B07FB4TC19
  25. I've never seen a diagnostics report other than tick sheets, perhaps the tick sheets are/were the diagnostics reports. I'm not sure a scan tool gets plugged in unless you pay extra(?).
  26. Large overheads, but the VAT is collected and not theirs. Small cc Skoda VW Engines have had, 2.8, 3.2, 3.6, 3.9, 4.2, 4.6 and 4.8 litres capacity and the same charge was made with the old Fixed Servicing. As were the spark plugs be it 3 or 4 cylinder. There was a while where the Fixed Price excluded 1.0 cc engines, but that did not mean all got the serving cheaper. The Old Minor / Major, then Minor or Interim & Major took the same money as a 2 year major as a @4 year major which was a nonsense as a Air Filter, Fuel Filter or spark plugs were not done at 2 years old. But then it really was 'Fixed Price' on cars 3-10 years old, but places were taking the pith. ............ It was not Customers responsible for Defeat Devices and VW cheating, or the number of recalls & TPI,s and still them having poorly built or prepped cars back in making workshops bust doing warranty work. Pre 2020. This system was flawed as far as what customers paid. A technician or fitter could decide not to fit consumables, or even check if a air filter was needed, or spark plugs yet people paid the same not to get them.
  27. Excellent advice, Nigel. I'll do just that. Thankyou!
  28. I've seen videos for the 1.0 MPI and the air box just pulls off on that but I've not idea with the 1.0 TSI, not difficult on the 1.2 TSI just a PITA awkward. You do need the deep thin (and best magnetic) long socket about IIRC £20 for a Laser one, perhaps you can get away with not buying a coil puller and grease to ease future removal, you could put in the standard plugs or more expensive longer lasting ones, plus you only need three of them and not four. Even with the more expensive plugs, plug socket, coil puller and grease I doubt it'd be £141. A couple of years back for a service I took my wife's car to an independent garage that a neighbour had used and if anything it might have been a few pounds more for the work than the Dealership. I have been recommended a chap that uses the end lift at a local tyre place his prices seem low but I don't want cheap work but reasonably good work which seems so hard to find in the motor trade. I know what you mean about a bad back and not wanting to get your hands dirty, I loathe working on our cars not that I know much or are any good at mechanics (but I don't mind simple jobs on my neighbours' cars) but this year I think I might do the engine oil & filter change as I know I will do a better job of that because I care about doing it properly and I can use better quality oil as my wife's car frequently does very short journeys and the annual mileage is low at 8,000 miles a year.
  29. Large over heads, wages to pay etc. Can't be cheap running a dealership with servicing facilities. I get that, just don't want to be over paying... I think l'll shop about, there's a VAG 'specialist' round the corner. Its not something i want to get involved in these days. All this extra stuff would of put another £200 on the bill today.
  30. Why not take the car to another garage/mechanic. £141 does seem a bit steep for three plugs. On my wife's 1.2 TSI it was £99 which by the time I'd bought the plugs and tools and wrested with the PITA engine air filter box to get at the plugs wasn't worth it for what might be a one-off job. That could be other things including perhaps the computer programs doing their bits but that to me is more encouragement to at least look at the plugs and if paying someone else to do that you might as well fit new plugs. Also if the 1.0 engine air filter box is the same PITA to deal with as the 1.2 then change the engine air filter too or at least take the air filter out and clean it and the airbox, again if paying someone be best to change the filter. The plugs might not be worn out but be past their optimum and fully reliable use, age and the environment of the engine effect them not just milage lack of mileage and use effects the engine with it not being at at reasonable running temperature proportionately for longer periods and more heat cycles, same for the engine oil (so perhaps needs changing more often and not less often.
  31. I would swerve the service plan, but also the Main Dealers, best have done by a garage what you can not do. Not these fitters at Main Dealers. Look at the Air Filter, look at the Pollen filter, get a new one, vacuum and wash the area. ? What has been done up to now, as when was the pollen filter last looked at or replaced? When do you want to do the plugs, after you get a misfire? Or @6 years if not at 5 years, or once the fuel consumption gets higher. 3 spark plugs in a 1.0 TSI, i would be having them replaced, but not at the Main Dealers Prices. Same with what they take with a pollen filter. Brake fluid change was due at 3 years then each 2. Or at least testing the brake fluid for H20. Fixed Regime, Guidelines, not accurate. But that is how it is. Confusion at the Dealers and the Importers Skoda UK.
  32. Thanks, Nigel. I live in a block of flats, so it was fine leaving the solar panel on the dashboard in the car park by the flats. I grew up in the 70s and remember driving around in an MG that belonged to some people we knew. Nice cars. I take your point about cars being lumps of metal, although one can become attached to them if they provide good service for long periods of time. Your philosophy is very sound, as far as I'm concerned. Cheers, Daniel
  33. Smaller engines are oft worse at emissions as it is the high cylinder temperatures that create the nasty NOX. Skoda moved from the 1.4TSI to the 1.TSI EVO, same power but better emissions. Allowed them to lower cylinder temperatures and they introduce cylinder deactivation of course. Ford ECOBOOST engine not so good on emissions, maybe OK on CO2 but not so good on NOX. Good petrol hybrids can provide low emissions and not always cost the earth like the Clio etech shows which if you do not want a little Yaris is widely regarded as the best cheapish, still £22K mind, full hybrid. But this can improve year on year with bigger lithium battery, or LIFEPH as they constant improve on energy denisty whilst becoming much cheaper too.
  34. The wheel bearing failure means the ABS sensor can no longer read the reluctor ring properly, fix the bearing and the light show should go.
  35. Hi everyone, a couple of days ago, I went to the local dealer to update my infotainment system but unfortunately, the system can't be updated because it freeze. They tried many times to update without success. My software is1940, can you tell me how to fix this problem? THX!

Jeez you'd think they'd just have upto date information, otherwise you end up guessing at it. Very confusing lol. I don't even care what needs done etc. I run my cars as "if it needs it, it gets it" and usually use genuine parts or OEM. My first ownership of a dsg.... but couldn't believe how well it drove and also how economical it was. Just hope it's reasonable around town etc

Yeah I get that. How do know what gearbox I've got?
  38. 1 point
I'm not sure, the paper work was a print out from the 'skoda authorised network' I'm gonna get the car a full service at 40k, sparks pollen Air etc done. Garage I bought from have just done oil and filter service but I'll do that again at 40k

Does the gear box not need done every 40k?
  40. Very good and informative video from Harry's Garage.
  41. I too would have recommended a CTEK charger to maintain the battery, but if mains power is an issue then have you considered a solar trickle charger for example ProPlus Solar trickle charger 12V 1,5W | Euro Car Parts there are plenty of other makes around. The option to remove the battery and put it on a trickle charge in doors is probably not a good ide given modern cars dont like not having a battery connected. Another option is to buy a battery boost pack which can be charged up elsewhere and used to top the battery up periodically without needing a mains power lead. Must be so disappointing to have a new Karoq sitting there and unable to use it. The advice to have the bonnet left open, being ultra cautious myself I would leave it unlocked with a window partially open bit only if your garage is secure.
  42. No. Use a smart charger suitable for your stop/start battery and check how to connect it to the car. Don't use the Negative terminal! Thanks. AG Falco
  43. Well I knew the Zoe, latest ZE50 version, was a queen of the long range small EVs but Gott im himmel, or should I say Sacre Bleu or the like, just got back from driving from Worcester to Liverpool, work in Liverpool this morning and drive back this afternoon in the little EV and guess how many time I charged up on route ? Answer below V V V Drum roll.... V V V V V V Not once !! Google say 240 miles, Zoe thought it was only 233 miles. And was I in turtle mode at the end of the journey ? No still had 25 miles showing in the miles of range left guessommeter, which seems quite accurate on the Zoe (better than Nissan according to Modern Hero is his high mileage Nissan van). I am blown away just how good the Zoe is on distance. I thought Worcester to Manchester airport and return was about it and not Liverpool which is about another 40 miles further. Even 233 miles plus 23 is impressive but really it is 240 miles plus 25 miles ie 265 miles range. Good conditions ie started with ambient temp fo 12C and it was 18C on return. I am thinking that maybe 300 miles is going to be possible in the Scenic 60 kWh if I can get over 260 in the Zoe. Wowser. Oh and will be claiming mileage at 45p per mile tax relief of course. Cost of energy for this journey 52 kWh at 8.5 pence per KWh from Octopus on new 5 hours per night Go tariff.............. about £4.40 !!!!!!!! Even my son's etech Clio would have used the best part of £24 of petrol. Even using my fuel card on the Arkana it would have cost me of £10 on the BIK on 4 gallons of petrol !! Not even close on fuel costs even with best tax advantages !
  44. The Kodiaq MK1 uses ATE rear brake calipers for both rear brake disc sizes, ie. 300x12mm, 310x22mm. TRW GDB1957 rear brake pads fit the rear brake calipers on both the 300x12mm and 310x22mm rear brake discs. Err...no, that's not what was asked. Check the battery voltage and do a CCA EN test to check whether the battery is failing on you. Anything below 20% of the CCA EN value of the battery...it's failing and needs replacing.
  46. New ARB collar bolts, the old ones were pretty crusty and although came out OK I wouldnt want to use them again. Most of the underside is pretty crusty and at some point Ill need to start thinking about various arms, bushes and the subframes itself. Until that day, on with the mods! Next on the list is an APR billet steel dogbone insert and when I have a good day to do it a full machine polish.
  47. So after driving a G20 m340i for 2 years, decided i need something with more space and more useful in daily life. So picked up a FL nardo grey sportline, with the 2.0 TSI 206kw engine that is the same as the golf 8R engine with the DNFE code and same gearbox, not yet sure about the haldex but we will see. Currently there are mounted 19 inch supernovas with spacers. This week we will mount lowering springs and do Stage 1 that seems really promising at around 390PS. The plan is to have the car really long term and then later get a weekend car so i will try to not go to far with power upgrades, I would like to do some retrofits and i hope @ApertureS and other folk of the forum could help me out. First few retrofits i would like to do is: Phone wireless charger, passenger powered seat, and auto drop rear seats from the trunk and if its possible to upgrade USB-B to C as there is only 1 in the car currently.
  48. Bumping up this thread a bit. 🙂 I have just installed new adjustable coilovers by KW. And new rims.
