  1. Cold the afternoon but a glorious sunset..........
  2. Here we are on page 358. I was working yesterday in Coventry at our massive cross docking station. A nice toodle for me ie 100 miles round trip in my EV. Two others I was meeting, one coming from Liverpool, the other from Felixstowe, both around 260 mile round trips I reckon and both people needed to blast across/down and be back ASAP for family reasons. Both also came in Renaults, a Capture and a Clio, both diesels. I cannot argue that at this moment in time that those diesels were the best tools/cars to do the job. It is late January, its coldish, they are probably driving at 70-ish, maybe pushing the NSL +10%+2 mph, one came flying past me once we got on the motorway, their cars are not new, they are in the middle of their careers and unlike me they have got better things to spend their money on that the latest car toys. Certainly brought it home to me others priorities and economics. EVs will get noticeably better and quickly but we have some way to go, maybe take until the end of the decade, before the choice of an EV becomes completely the default choice for the majority because of prices to acquire, the running costs and just the ability to to a long journey in the shortest time in a reasonably priced car. Still much work to do.
  3. Greetings, I just wanted to say thank you to this forum for helping me out in the past. I’ll be attempting to sell my 2012 Octavia Estate privately next week as I’ll be getting a used 2020 model instead. I’m moving away from diesel to petrol as well which is insane considering the miles I do but I can’t shake the fact that diesel seems to be a tax target that’s likely going to get worse. Frankly this has been the best car I’ve ever had. Amazing what regular serving can achieve. I doubt the petrol version will give me 249500k 😝 See you in the MK3 area
  4. Hmm, also very interesting that the Renault Zoe back in 2013 was awarded 5 stars but in 2021 it got rating of 0, and also interesting that VW Passat and the Skoda Superb also get a 5star rating.
  5. I'm not sure that's exactly the case. When car is parked but ignition is on, all 12V consumers are drawing power from HV somehow. I mean, switch on music, fans, etc and you see consumption in the range of 0.5-0.9kWh/h on the VC. Does it bypass 12V battery or does it go through the battery, I don't know. But myself I often sit in the car for long time and as long as ignition is on, it drains HV battery and 12V stays charged.

The trick here is not to try and remove the damaged digitizer but to disconnect it, cut off the ribbon cable and overlay with the new ebay one and reconnect. I did mine a couple of years ago and its still working fine. Cheaper than buying a screen module or an extrons although that does give you car play etc
  7. I have to disagree, there are many people (me included) not in your fortunate position of having a substantial income/pension and savings; for us the grants were a lifeline to the possibility of replacing our ICE with an EV but an effective price hike of £5000 shattered that dream.
  8. 'Hardness' is the issue. It is durability and resistance to chips & marks that matter, Soft paint and hard paint are terms used. It is about the paint (undercoat) under the colour coats and the lacquer / gloss coat. Paint might chip but you are not through to metal and touching in is just the colour and not needing to rust inhibit. When i was painter the Orange peel type finish of a New Ford or Mercedes really showed the amount of paint there was applied and when repairing or doing a respray you were replicating the factory finish. Even now check out paint on some new Fords & Mercedes in a showroom and the not mirror finish paint even polished and as well lit as you are likely to find. Even BMW,s in Solid or Metallics can look like the have 'thick' paint. That does not guarantee being 'Chip proof'. Look at the Dacia paint on some of the cars. Prepped and paint / protection to last. Like LR Defenders now, but with them you can pay for the option of the car being wrapped. The satin look vehicles.
  9. For the definitive list of equipment fitted, you can contact Skoda customer services and request a build sheet. You'll probably have to provide proof of ownership, such as V5 scan.
  10. Managed to retrofit the a reverse camera to my Scala the other day, cost just under £50 with delivery from Aliexpress. No coding required, worked straight away when selecting reverse gear. Most difficult part was removing the old handle and feeding the wire through the rubber conductor in to the boot. I’ve added some photos which may help anyone else attempting to do this. I routed my wire behind the glovebox, up the pillar and over the top of passenger side doors. The communication and general body repairs (interior) are needed to help you remove the entertainment system and boot panels (found in this forum) Link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000230897829.html - make sure you get the right type!
  11. Might put more off TESLA model Y unless they produce or sell cheaper. Is the model Y only about 50k Euros in Euroland which is only £42k at current RoE. I will bet the 92 kwh Techno Scenic will drop below £40k in April and avoid the £2k luxury car tax.
  12. Now where is the fun in that? By the looks of it, the pump is in one side and the sender is in the other EDIT - scratch that, you can clearly see a sender on the fuel pump as well, I guess if you have a lid and wiring on both sides it might have 2 senders
  13. EuroKneeCAP arbitrarily take 1* off a car's rating for every extra "safety device" they require after its original test date.

If I recall correctly, it is not possible to (easily) do an ACC delete with VCDS on ACC_MQB_Conti (distance control module on MK1 Kodiaq). You look around a bit on VCDS forums, but I think it requires swapping the radar unit with a one from a car that didn't have the ACC specced. However, if you want to use the normal CC mode, there's a trick you can do with the speed limiter. Just set set the speed and hold the throttle pedal, then you effectively get normal CC.
  15. I have mine set to dip at long distance and rarely get flashed. In fact, the most times I get flashed is when the berk driving towards me has a faulty headlight and my car assumes that it's a motorbike or not a car. Not bothered about that but I quite often turn it off on country lanes as they have no time to react before dazzling the other driver.
  16. I wanted to touch up a tiny scratch on our Polo. Silver. Just visited a high street emporium and browsed the girly nail varnish counter. Found a suitable wee bottle. Complete with brush of course. 😀
  17. I think I need to have a tinker with my 9n Polo, currently off the road, to measure those WW and INT connections during the action to see directly what occurs.
  18. For 3 euros it was worth a try! cheers, will post here if the results are useful.
  19. I live with it, I will put it through a brush car wash maybe once a year but not down here because it costs €8 whereas the exact same car wash in an identical filling station of the same supermarket group costs €4 when I go back up to Northern France.
  20. Actually two other factors in getting a high paid job as well as hard work and intelligence is sheer luck being in the right place at the right time and secondly, I suppose related to that point of being lucky in the industry one is in. My current job I replaced a guy who decided to start his own business. My niche of customs consultancy is rare so I wad able to name a good salary, take it or leave it. My predecessor went on to make £12m in 12 years so well done him. The other lucky occurrence was BREXIT which quadrupled the size of the customs declarations industry and has made my work area billions over the last 4 years. So luck and more luck as well as hard work and smarts. Not great for GB car makers all the tariff and export and mport issues but it's a bad wind that blows nobody some good. At least we have relatively low tariffs on cars whether from Europe or China. The only thing that annoys me is the right hand drive models are built after the first batch of left hand ones usually. Left is right and right is wrong but too late to change now I suppose.
  21. Very interesting feedbacks !! Thanks both.
  22. Indeed. Passat, and by relationship the Superb, just rated as the best safe car by Thatcham. Let's hope these brands managed to survive. Latest is VW selling some of its factories to the Chinese such is their economic woe.
  23. OR, @pingpongpete1, you can pay and ask for a digital Car Data document from: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226517872578?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=nGO17j9xSwi&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=b7yi6osrr9a&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY PS: I don't know this seller, I only used his service, so bear in mind that I'm not indented to do any sort of advertising. Cheers
  24. You hit the nail on the head there, and most of the EV owners who post on here cannot see or even acknowledge that they are in most cases in a far more privileged position than a large percentage of the population, seeing as EV's were and in reality are still way more expensive than a decent ICE car. Yes there are a few more affordable electric cars, but they are small, and very basic compared to ICE cars of the same value.
  25. From recent posts on here, I think car data is no longer offered to private individuals accessing erWin. May only be a UK thing, not sure.
  26. Similar thread may help
  27. Its ironic that the Government have just release this consultation and as always with an extremely tight timeline for people to respond to it, anyone who was cynical would think that they don't people to take part in the survey as they have already made their minds what is going to happen and will ignore what people say, as per usual. 28. People are not stopping travelling by car while train services / timetables are terrible and the cost of them. Then bus services have been cut in rural areas and not everyone is travelling city to city or to places on that routes. The weather might be changing but as to cycling out of towns and cities to commute by bike or on foot then lets see the MSP,s & Ministers doing that, they can claim a shoe expense. & get issued Hi-Viz gear identifying them so that the public can stop them to have a word about the cost of public transport.
  29. In Scotland there were 6 year interest free loans to buy new EV,s. Then that changed to Interest Free to buy Used Electric Vehicles. Currently closed to applications. There was an issue, The Administration and applications time to be processed and the car you wanted to purchase no longer being available because the useless office staff. Maybe working from home. I doubt they were snowed under with work...
  30. Hard to say without knowing either the engine or the gearbox but it probably has synchromesh on reverse gear, the 6 speed boxes do although I dont know if its all 6 speed variants, I think the 5 speeds on my last 2 cars have had it also, in fact I don't think any car of mine since the late 80 Sierras with MT75 gearboxes has not had synchromesh on reverse gear. The days of declutching and waiting before gingerly selecting reverse to avoid the crunching and gear tooth damage are long behind me but the driving reflex remains.
  31. That worked and stopped Android Auto automatically playing my Spotify through my car stereo. Android Auto is automatically switching on wifi on my phone when I get in my car. Do I need this to use wireless connection to my car? I think the message about my phone disconnecting from my car when I drive into my road is when my phone reconnects to my home wifi.
  32. If it won't open when using the button on the key then it's not using the button on the boot so it's most likely the lock.
  33. 1 point
i assume u r referring to the 12v socket? the AUX is usually where u plug ur headphones into. there isn't one in the boot. the 12v sockets r controlled by two different fuses. #30 12-volt socket in luggage compartment #40 12-volt power outlet fuses r located behind the glovebox for RHD Superb. the 12v socket is permanent live, in other words - they remain powered even after the car is switched off.
  34. 2.0 TDI DSG with 55k, has printouts from Skoda dealer, DSG oil changed last year, but doesn’t appear to have had a cam belt.
  35. I would not like to be in the hypothetical position of someone whose car is coming up to the end of the lease or whatever contract expecting to chuck it in and pay a similar monthly amount for the latest model of their s***box, who was happy in the knowledge that repairs and faults were something that concerned others who bought their cars and not them with the manufacturers warranty. Then one month before exchanging it after having spent ages having test drives, negotiating deals etc on the next s***box this strange light comes on the dashboard, nothing to be concerned about, its not my car, the warranty will cover it, I will carry on my journey and then tap-tap-tap-knock-knock-knock CLATTER CLATTER CLATTER Car recovered by dealer and then presented with a bill for £13k and probably (not sure how these things work) having to carry on paying the rental until the repairs are done (at full main dealer price, no second hand engines) and the lease company can accept it back to sell at auction. Maybe even being taken for £1800 for a strip down and photo session. The OP owning the vehicle has options like selling it on, unfortunately he is £900 down and will be selling a car with nothing under the bonnet and a boot full of oily bits and pieces, unsure even if all the parts are there, a car that can only be moved on a trailer, the £900 spent will have significantly reduced the value of selling it unmolested as a repair project.
  36. @OotohereI was already aware about Tesla not refunding Marks money, he has mentioned that before, I'm not sure if it is one of his other videos, or he mentioned it in interview with other vloggers. It is a despicable way to treat people and their money. Sort of a throwback to the early days of Sinclair and the other tech companies of the 80s when they used adverts in the newspapers and people paid up front months in advance of receiving anything.
  37. @nta16 Thank you for all the info. I suppose I should check the gaps and timing and so on, I just need the tools now (and the owners/workshop manual if anyone has a link or smth). Will tell you when I get the issue sorted.
  38. Hi, Superb 2021 Sportline 2.0TDi - 147kW, 7DSG - Sunroof, matrix lights, Virtual Cockpit, Tow bar, Webasto (Parking heater), 4x4 and more
  39. No, not only for the systems in the cabin; there are plenty of relays and low-voltage components powered by the 12V battery. Unfortunately there's no scenario which allows the HV battery to directly charge the 12 V battery. AFAIK the 12 V battery on our cars can be charged while: - driving in EV-mode; - driving on ICE; - charging the HV battery. I remember seeing such a diagram on some technical documentation posted on this Forum if I remember correctly.
  40. I'm actually currently considering obtaining an EV. I'm sure that statement will be met with a degree of incredulity by many readers!😄 The situation is that work recently mentioned that they are going to be introducing a salary sacrifice scheme which got me thinking... It will obviously depend on the numbers once the scheme gets up and running (the scheme isn't running yet). However - and this is obviously only my situation... I currently own my wife's Polo outright which is worth around £14k - if I sold it and put the money in the bank I could reasonably expect to earn about £500 or more a year in interest (obviously this could drop). I could shift about 20k of my annual mileage onto the EV (15K of this would be commuting and the rest made up of other local short trips). I could keep the Skoda and use this for my longer journeys and have the added benefit of keeping the mileage low and therefore depreciation (I'm currently doing about 22k miles a year on the Skoda and about 10k on the Polo). 20k miles worth of fuel is probably at least £2k at current prices and I should be able to charge the EV at work as we have chargers (albeit very slow and only 4no.) and obviously I could charge cheaply at home for any additional requirements. So total potential savings per year as it stands would be: £500 interest £2,000 fuel £3,000 set aside for replacement car £300 servicing £200 VED £6,000 total Unknowns Actual cost of the scheme - i.e. how much will I lose in take home pay for whatever car I choose. Inclusions/exclusions - would insurance be covered for example? It's certainly got me thinking about which EV is best though. Looking for something efficient and long range to minimise need of public charging but still be able to maximise what I can use it for. Tesla's seem the obvious market leaders but I really don't like the look of them and neither do I like the touch screen does everything approach. The charging network is obviously a massive plus with them but as I don't really intend to do much, if any public charging then it's not really a game changer. Plus it looks like they will be increasingly opening the sites to all EVs in the long term anyway. I won't take any of the Chinese brands. The most obvious model that's got my attention at the moment is the VW ID7 estate. Seems to be very efficient, great range, highly practical and well equipped. Downsides seem to be the relatively high cost. Have I missed anything? Any other cars that I could look at? Any other potential costs/savings I've missed?
  41. Our Mini Countryman has some sort of similar feature and a small numberof times (only 2 or 3) it has randomly triggered with it somehow imagining that there is an object in front of us. Same as you, brown trouser WTF moments. More often that not the radar cruise option switches itself off for reasons unknown and switch back on (even as normal manual CC) unless the ignition is switches off, a bit of a PITA in a 100mi motorway stretch. TBH radar 'active' cruise has been a massive disappointment and I'd never spec it on another car. The Eye-Sight system on the Subaru has been far superior to the radar based mini.
  42. I order an 85 edition at end of December dealer e mailed me yesterday to say it is produced and preparing for transport to uk
  43. Here she is. Quietly understated. Just how I like them ♥️
  44. Really struggled to get a picture of it clean, so instead I've taken a quick couple of pics when the sun just popped out, whilst away camping for the night 🏕️ it's an awesome car
  45. I prefer the aero covers on as will be easier to clean with sponge! I think for the facelift, I feel as though I can just jump in the car and get going without having to wait for the entertainment system to reset, boot up and then switch off various settings because your preferences wouldn't be retained as in the pre-facelift. In the facelift a few button presses and I am good to go. Thank god the sound generator thing has gone because I would always select economy previously to get it switched off - now I just drive in normal mode and life is good and quiet with some sporty noises from the exhaust. Wireless charging and Apple CarPlay is fab - just put your phone down and it will charge, sync etc etc. and it doesn't need to be positioned in an exact sweet spot. I have Canton - difficult to tell the improvement over the stock system, must be better but bass doesn't shake the car or anything - probably more clear with additional speakers - would I get it again? probably. I also got a sunroof - not getting much action right now but really like it in spring/summer so glad I got it. Winter pack is great - obvs using it right now for heated screen and steering wheel. Infotainment system works very well and has had a significant improvement from previous version - responsive and screen a lot bigger. This is my 5th vRS estate and do miss the LED strips in the rear doors - I know this has gone for a wee while but just looks cheap and naff with the front doors having LED strips and then it just goes pitch black on the rear doors - am sure the bean counters could have afforded this in a £40k car. Can't think what else could be better but this is about it - so can't be all bad. No regrets about buying another vRS estate as I get no hassle from the dealer when buying new or servicing and Octavia's have not given me any grief over the years. Glad I bought this and not a Golf GTI - see ya VW!
  46. I went from 0276 (which was almost-unbelievable garbage) to 0306. 0306 is fine but 0276 could have affected Carplay, in the way that it almost affected the law of physics. 0306 is fine but yes there is also 0308, 0324 and 0330 out there for the taking and 0332 is rumoured but no-one has found it online yet. You need 0308 as a base point so I'd get 0308 and 0330 and go to that. Download from https://mega.nz/folder/bupmCaqA#dGb8Y30eDZ3rx95kts3E_A which is a forum-member's ftp link. Just do the below one at a time - just version of software at a time - don't have them both on there just in case. Copy/unzip/extract onto a USB stick into the root folder. You'll need either USB-C stick or if you have a port in the armrest that will likely be a data port too (it is on the Superb but it's existence in the car was an option I believe so you might not have it at all). Then with the stick plugged into the car, go to the screen you show in your post and press the update software button. The MIB will reboot into Engineering Mode were everything is red font and you need to press options with a circle next to them. Usually a double tap. Let it do its thing. At one point it might randomly ask to resume at the bottom of the screen, just go ahead. When done it'll reboot back into normal mode. At which point, taker the stick out, format it, copy 0330 on and repeat. Format can be FAT32, but I think exFAT is better and perfectly fine (have used both). Let us know how you get on.
  47. Looks good in the red. Some other impressions to add to other peoples. It seems like Skoda listened to the feedback on dislikes on the MK4 and fixed/changed a bunch * No pretend sound * Easy switch between standard cruse control and adaptive (and travel assist) * Easy turn off/disable of wireless charging * Wireless charging cooling * Infotainment s/w is very responsive I am sure there are others.
