  1. The change to 80 amp fuses in domestic houses instead of 100amp was due to temperature. It was originally assumed that most of the load would be in winter (electric heaters etc). The supply cables (called tails) are often rated based on temperature of 20c. Now people are using more power in summer, it was standardised to prevent hot wires, because cables were not really rated for 100amp continuous in hot weather. The National grid struggles in parts of the country because most of the high power grid was built to shift electricity from coal fired power stations in north midlands to big industry sites and cities. It simply hasn't caught up with shifting electricity from remote wind farms and solar arrays to motorway service area car parks in fairly rural areas.

Already done the oil & filter at 40k Due again at 80k No way do I listen to VW/Skoda guidance for fluid chage schedules they simply cannot be trusted with this stuff imvho.
  4. Update time, I think I have located a good one, albeit has done 95,000 miles, 1 owner, had a private plate fitted and then removed and reverted to its original plates, but as the service history is now on line only, I have requested the details (above) from my local service Skoda centre. It has all the niceties that I was looking for heated seats in the front at least, leather seats, blind spot monitoring, ACC, Land departure, front and rear parking sensers, electric front seats, full LED matrix headlights with the AFS and and automatic blanking of beam to prevent blinding other drivers etc etc and the real added bonus is that it also has the virtual cockpit and also the almost none existent these days, space saver wheel and jack instead of the aerosol kit you get these days, none of which was mentioned in the advert, so that's pretty good, a bonus and a good price too. Did a car vertical report on the car, no issues highlighted there and suggests that the average price for the car of that age is around £21,000. The only issue I could detect during the test drive was the air con needs recharging or something, which is being addressed and the big issue was could another 1.9m tall person comfortable sit behind me when I have drivers seat back as far as it can go, and that, in the 5 seater version is a resounding success with a couple of inches to spare. Just need to get to the bottom of the cambelt and water pump position now, but at the moment it would seem as if all the stars are all lining up in a row for me 👍
  5. Quentin Wilson was on the BBC talking EV,s and cheapness, and said as usual 2 pence a mile with an EV. Yes with a 7 pence a kWh charge that is. The Social Divide. Heidi Alexander MP is coming on 'BBC1 Sunday with Laura Kuensberg. Lets see / hear what figures she comes away with and maybe if she is driven around in an EV and has one as a family car. ....................... 13 years ago he was on about 100 miles for £1. Well now that is £2 for 100, for those not paying 60 pence or more a kWh, or even 30 pence. http://bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-19661199 The 'Claim' is correct for those that 'could or can charge' for Much Cheapness. ............. 'Across the country she said'. Maybe that is England then. She has not an EV, but never said if the Government Car she is driven in is an EV. Later this week for the announcement.

another new member @lasausage is probably even closer in as West Cork as you can get in Ballyvourney, beside my old college roomate's neighbours 😉🤣 welcome to the irish brisky contingent @alex1978
  7. Had the wheels refurb'd... and new centre caps and new tyres all round. Much much nicerer. Before and after
  8. I recently replaced the water pump in my 1.8t engine. After a lot of turning the engine by hand and not feeling or hearing anything out of the usual I started it up and heard this fast pace ticking noise. I am awere that ther is a ticking sound thats normal but I can hear another sound aswell. The sound may very well be normal and im just extra awere of things out of place becaus I dont want to hear an orchestra of expensive noices. I would appreciate if anyone could share a video of thier 1.8t idleing as a comparison or even tell me outright if the sound is normal. IMG_7118.mp4
  9. if you're comparing a 1.5 to a 2.0 then performance isn't on the top of your list (I assume). All this 'power gets out of trouble' is rubbish - it gets you out of trouble until 245ps pulls you into a tree! The real reason for having a bit more power is that overtaking/pulling out becomes a little easier and, crucially, when the car is loaded, you're still able to move along happily. My 1.4 Leon FR was brilliant when empty, but put a passenger and fill the back up and she struggled a bit!
  10. So I drove the vRS and the 1.5, the 1.5 was well specced, it was nice, but the vRS was much better. Suspension different, and obviously the power was stronger. The car I drove had been quickly sold on Cinch, so the dealer is sourcing me a car which will hopefully come in soon. Pretty much gave me what I wanted for my Mk 3 and chucked in some sweeteners, so I am waiting for the second Graphite Grey vRS to come in so I can see it and potentially get it. 🤞
  11. Yeah, the bulbs are correctly fitted, luckily for me I'm good friends with a mechanic. This headlight unit seems only to be fitted to 2013/14/15 models. The bulb blew itself to bits also it seems to have not been clipped in correctly as there is heat damage around the bulb seat. I know the car spent at least 3 years in France so it's possible it had a European type headlight fitted for some reason. Thanks for the advise but these headlights seem to be rare as hens teeth here in Ireland, I'll have to start looking in the UK.
  12. One of these Digital Volt Meters (DVM) that plug in to the auxiliary power socket give a permanently useful indication of battery voltage/Alternator smart charging etc.
  13. Blimey! Apologies for dredging this topic up (sometimes I just wander along the dusty and less travelled corridors of Briskoda) but I thought I'd throw my 2p's worth of info in. I passed my IAM test way back in 2005 and even became an observer for my local group for a few years before life took me in a different direction. Last year I cogitated about rejoining and contacted the group for a check drive. Happily the observer only picked me up on minor issues (well, they have to say something, don't they! 😉) and stated that my skills had not really deteriorated since I passed my test. We all think we are the World's best driver but it's sometimes nice to get someone else's opinion. p.s. I don't think I'm the World's best driver but I am damn sure I have more driving and situational awareness on the road than 90% of the numpties behind a wheel these days ..... p.p.s. I also passed my ROSPA Motorcycling test at Gold Standard a few years later. But I'm not the World's best motorcyclist either. Still alive though (as of posting on this thread, well, you never know ....)
  14. If you look in the sticky posts in the Kodiaq section you should be able to find the official Skoda maintenance workshop manuals... It'll say in there Here you go... Just select the ones you want... There's one in there for the diesel engine. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/files/file/47-skoda-kodiaq-workshop-manuals/?&do=download
  15. I'll wait and see if there are any online records and what is the recommendation of the local official repair agents about going forwards. I might just have to bite the bullet and go ahead with the replacement for my own peace of mind.

I find it a bit "bouncy" but not harsh if that makes sense? It's not uncomfortable.

  18. A bit of a boring post, so don't get excited 😂 absolutely boiling today and it's probably best to not clean a car in the blazing sun but I still have it a shot, I am actually astounded at how well it has come up after all these years, clearly the ceramic coat I had done all those moons ago has paid off. The bonnet is actually very faded at this point, it's been resprayed in the past after having a slight mishap with a deer so that will need replacing (I think it's too far gone to be worth trying to save so a replacement is easier). No polishing here, just a quick blast with the jet wash and polar foam, this was actually before I gave it a quick buff over with some spray on wax The plan is to book it in for an MOT next week and see what happens, no more work to be done unless it's needed to pass.
  19. Pulled this from wheelfitment website Skoda octavia mk1 1997 - 2005 https://www.wheelfitment.eu/car/Skoda/Octavia%20(1997%20-%202005).html Wouldnt let me copy data sorry Alasdair
  20. Hello, new Fabia owner here. Looking forward to learning about my new car from you all. 🥰
  21. Welcome to Briskoda @Mandyraff Looks like that passenger side window needs some attention. Some fantastic people in the MkI section will no doubt be able to help you there.
  22. Find out about a TDI & do not assume because Skoda / VW say 'all' that is not just TSI,s. The Real issue was DEALERSHIP being landed with Used 1.5 TSI ACT,s with 50,000 miles and not Serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines because not paying £850-£1,200 so trading them in. A Skoda Approved Used car would not have a FMDSH and servicing to Schedule & Dealerships would be paying their employees and parts & that was just not on after decades of taking the p!th in the UK. 5 years / 50,000 miles.
  23. That all seemed to a bit of a faff, there are better ways of spending time.
  24. My understanding is that a TSI GPF regen is very different from the TDI DPF procedure - and is only carried out during engine overrun conditions.
  25. Update Some more information for those annoyed with rattles around electronic dash. After quit a while with thin plastic strip in top left corner of the bezel I decided to cure it properly. Removed strip to check if it had distorted enough to stop the problem - it hadn't. Removed the bezel and all metal clips were present and tight fitted. On checking the "tabs" I found they all had black cloth stuck on them. It looked professionally fitted but my dealer did say they had not removed the bezel when I mentioned the problem previously. After looking carefully at the bezel and its location into the soft dash surround I suspected the rattle was due to the edge "lip" and the other "locator" strips rubbing against the surround (the likelihood of plastic rattles increases with time as it progressively hardens). As I wanted to prove my assumptions and before fitting foam (as suggested), I decided to use silicon grease. I placed a very small amount on a cloth and rubbed it on the the extreme edge of the bezel and plastic locating tabs, refitted the bezel and no rattle. The above may also be accomplished by cleaning the interior plastics with cleaning sprays as they seam to contain plastic lubricants. I will resort to fitting foam should the problem re-occur! Hope the above helps anyone irritated by any small rattles around the dash.
  26. You don't seem to understand basic economics or how the UK power generation works. Whether it's Centrica, the German Eon company or our the homegrown Octopus energy they can sell energy at 6 or 7 p per kwh in the early hours of the morning and they still making a profit. Us EV user, and home battery adopters are simply buying lecky when it's cheaper to buy. To you understand Happy Hours in pubs and similar events ? The UK power generation network has a certain about of nuclear base load, this will be further enhanced when Hinkley Point C and new Sizewell come on line as well as wind turbines providing supply thru the night. There has been almost a billion pounds list with wind turbines being switched off due to excess supply in the network. Best ti get 7 or 8p a kwh off customers with car or home batteries rather than have to that energy wasted. So much neteirk energy at sometimes Octopus give us free energy for some hours. Supply, Demand and economics not charity or privilege just smart people doing smart things.
  27. Hi and welcome along! Congratulations on passing your test. It’s a milestone at any age 👍🏻
  28. And we are seeing more homes with two walbox chargers and one can even charge a third EV via a 13A plug. A charger could add 35 kwh in 5 hours which happens to be the size of the minis smaller battery size, looking forward to picking it up tomorrow. If the Zoe is replaced by a 40 kwh Renault 5, or Spring, they also can be charged from almost empty to full. Scenic can get over half a charge in the 5 hours. Still reeling as to why two gentlemen from National Grid lowered my mains fuse from 100A to 80A, apparently a policy now for houses. Still looking for a mobile house battery that could charge at up to 6 kwh or so but also power the house during the day. Saving nearly 20p per kwh. Ultimately would like to stop using gas completely but with gas at 5.71 p per kwh it is hard to argue with that. Any gas powered cars out there ? Dacia still do dual fuel lng and petrol. We do it for our 200,000 ton, 23,000 TEU LNG ships so must be something in it.
  29. Real world from a member. Charging an EV. The term FAST is usually, 7 kw chargers, (& 11 kW.) so really SLOW, (11 AC not quite so SLOW but not FAST. RAPID is 50 kW chargers so FAST not that fast, then you have ULTRA FAST, or ULTRA RAPID. Something that Car Salespeople seldom can explain. That is just how the terms were and evolved. So if you can only public charge & are paying 60 pence a kWh or more so 10 kWh costs £6.00 to go 36-40 miles just get a Petrol or Diesel if a private owner paying for your fuel. Edinburgh is now getting better charging provision but charging Ultra Rapid can be expensive, as can just RAPID charging at 50 kW because the Council for the City made it so. Many passengers can not be bothered with all the crap and messing about even though it looks simple and can be. They just want to get where they are going..
  30. Maybe as done now the base fuels will still arrive by ship to the various sea ports and depots. Just more than before and at those ones owned by Royal Dutch Shell and Greenery. As it is Grangemouth as an Oil Refinery Closed but as a Fuel Depot it is still operating and fuel is being delivered from there even though they are no longer operating a Cracking Plant. @lol-lol not read that article yet but how much of the Road and Transport fuels in the UK was from refining in the UK? Tankers of Fuel from around the world not just from refineries in Europe & not just oil are held at sea ready for delivery into UK depots, as 'the price is right'. Come on in, like the tide. 3 years ago, over capacity production for the Home Market. So exporting surpluses. But if there is to be Energy Security in the UK then refining and the production of fuels should be a priority for the Government.
  31. It very much sounds like no cranking because the switch is an issue and the shifter is not properly in P or N. Connection not right. Throwing parts at the car like it is a game of bingo is not financially Simply Clever.
  32. Maybe EV sales will spike upwards even faster as refineries close.... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/07/12/petrol-stations-run-dry-oil-refinery-collapse/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/07/12/petrol-stations-run-dry-oil-refinery-collapse
  33. I’ve just driven 360 miles in 25-32c temperatures and their performance appears to be unaffected. I think during these tests, tyres are driven to extremes. I remember when I was financially embarrassed a few years ago and bought a set of budget tyres - Accelera I think the were - and was then throttled as these were “appalling” and “ditchfinders”. They were just fine. You mean like driving on snow… or ice? 🙄
  34. Try plugging the car in and then leaning in and pressing 'Stop charging' on the Infotainment screen then lock the car leaving it plugged in. The octopus app should recognize that the car is plugged in and send instructions to the car to start and stop charging
  35. I solved this. The sound is normal im just paranoid
  36. Updated my Audi mib2. I renamed the stl.1vw file found the the Common folder to VW_STL_DB.sqlite Then updated using More Incredible Bash

I'm glad our car doesn't have this. I don't feel as if I've missed out on anything at all. Judging by most of the posts - and not just on this thread - maybe it should be called Predictive Adaptive Uncooperative Inattentive Contradictive and Obstructive Cruise Control. I spose I'm just an old fart who'd rather do the driving himself.
  38. That was one of the first things I did many many years ago - opened up the blocked second air intake opening behind the grille. Many people would think opening up blocked bit on the top of the air intake was sufficient, or getting an aftermarket air-intake with both inlets open would do the trick - but both would yield no gains on the Superb unless the blocked air intake behind the grille was opened up.
  39. Go to your local dealer, they’ll be many different part numbers for interior colours, fabric type Just go to the parts department
  40. Wrong thread. This thread is about electric cars not hybrids. Hybrids have two whole propulsion systems, twice as much to go wrong. Be glad to see the back of the Clio hybrid this week and we will have 3 pure BEVs, hurray.
  41. New price Sold for £20,600 after 2 month 1st registered 07/05/25
  42. I bought replacement clip from AliExpress Link The part arrived within 10 days and fits well. Overall, I think this route is less wasteful than buying the overall mounting fitting from Skoda Dealer and discarding all but the clip. Hope this is of use to some others.
  43. A couple of shots from the off road day. Instructor took the shot with me hanging. A couple of others messing about with 1000mm
  44. Battery connected for 48hours now and it’s still starting fine so 🤞 that’s it sorted!
  45. Which gearbox do you have?
  46. What a dreadful experience. Thank you for the detailed account and warning.
  47. The Born is as far from an Octavia as a Huracan is. The difference between the vRS and the 1.5 is honestly best answered by the similarities - which, really, are the carpets, infotainment, some body panels, wipers and basic chassis. Otherwise, the steering, suspension, brakes, engine, gearbox, design and everything else is a totally different thing. They are designed to serve two totally different purposes. It’s like comparing a 3.0 TDI A6 to an RS6 GT. Sure, they’re the same car, but they’re also just not even in the same universe, let alone the ball park.
  48. I have the VC and I love it. I played with the various options and finally settled on the setup shown in the photos. I have the two dials showing fuel range and gear (left) with sat nav guidance and speed (right) In the middle I have the map display. I like having the main display in the dash centre set to 500yd resolution (it gives a good overview of the route and potential roadworks, plus view of my chosen POIs) and the VC display set to 100yd (which gives a magnified view useful for complicated junctions). It also shows lane info when leaving/switching motorways). Being right in your eyeline, it's easy to check with a quick flick of the eyes. I had test driven a number of Kodiaqs both with and without VC, and this convinced me it was something I wanted, so it was high on my wish list. I make use of it every day and I'm glad I have it. I have to say that now I've settled on this setup that I really like, I never change it
